Surely You Were Meant To Be Mine
Chapter 6
Bella jammed her eyes shut as tightly as she could upon hearing Embry's announcement. She did not allow herself to see Jacob's reaction because she knew, whatever it was, would shatter her. If he were to be joyful… that would confirm the fact that the majority of his feelings were in fact platonic, and he did not feel for her romantically. At this stage, he would be looking out for someone he supposedly, and seemingly considered, as a sister, and the love between them would be one sided. Entirely.
Alternatively, if he were to be upset, Bella would consider it as annoyance that his best guy friend (Embry) did not inform him that he was dating his best girl friend (Her). Albeit any sign of unhappiness giving her futile hope that they could have an imminent relationship, Bella would again be distressed by the fact that Jacob was feeling anguish. She repudiated the thought that he felt anything amorous towards her; she had discovered that hoping for foolish things only led to heartbreak. That you should not dwell on something that is virtually impossible.
Right now, she wanted nothing more than to be in Jacob's arms, weeping away all the sorrow that she had been experiencing for the past month, and exchanging admissions of passionate love between them.
However, instead she was here, standing behind Embry, at a false going away party for her, because she wanted the love of her life to realize how much he actually desired and wanted to be with her, surrounded by a pack of hot-headed wolves, two pissed teenage girls, and a deceiving ex friend. Whom had Jacob caught in her evil slutty clutches. Surprisingly, Bella felt no guilt naming Maisy a slut; it suited her in the worst possible way.
Bella pulled her mind from Maisy, although she was right there, looking aghast as Jacob, Bella wanted nothing to do with her. She thought about Seth's plan, which was pathetic but genius at the same time,. Pretending to be Embry's girlfriend to evoke Jacob's jealousy, and his hopefully probable unregistered feelings…unless ,…unless they were registered…and Jacob was hiding them?
Bella pushed the thought from her mind. Stop hurting yourself, idiot.
Nonetheless, she hated to lie… to anyone, even to the person that had hurt her, however if it brought realization to Jacob, then they would have to go with it. Until then (if the plan were successful) Bella would have to subsist with the undeviating guilt that plagued her.
Sigh. If only, there was an effortless approach to discover if Jacob had feelings for her.
She found herself thinking about what Embry had said, and how it had led to Seth revealing something he had kept hidden all this time.
*Flashback*
"What? Why?" Bella enquired, she was scared stiff. She felt feeble. As though she was going to collapse any moment. "What's wrong with Jacob?"
"Don't argue Bells, let's go!" Embry said hurriedly, grabbing hold of her hand, pulled her out of the room, and up the stairs.
As soon as they got to her room, Embry shut the door behind him, and Bella sighed irritated, sinking down on the mattress of her bed. She was fed up of being told what to do; she was tired of everyone being in command of her life, without allowing her to make her own judgments. Albeit the fact that she adored the pack, and the girls. They were amazing, so helpful, and so protective; in addition, they loved her. However, she felt somewhat oppressed… they would not let her assert a sole task…all the preparation and planning was all theirs. The ideas were all theirs. On top of all that, they would not listen to her gut instinct that something was going to go wrong. She just knew it.
As indebted as she was…she still contemplated that she needed to make some of the decisions, if not all of them.
Bella pushed these whining thoughts from her mind, and turned to Embry who had his back against the door, fists clenched, and eyes jammed shut. She was instantly worried about him, and asked whether he was okay.
He popped open one eye, and smiled at her, before closing both eyes and replying. "Fine, just stressed out. This is such a mess. Jacob, with Maisy… all of it."
She frowned and nodded. "Yeah, I wish it wasn't this way. I wish it were easier…" She murmured wistfully.
Embry opened both his eyes and was now watching her thoughtfully. "It doesn't have to be like this you know…"
"What do you mean?"
A tension filled pause, then…"You could just go to Jacob and tell him."
"Tell him what?" Bella was now confused. Was Embry saying she needed to be straightforward about it?
"That you love him and you want to-"
Embry did not get to complete his sentence, because at that moment, the door flung open and he was headed to landing face first on the floor, however using his heightened senses, he stopped himself just in time. Seth had just burst into the room like an actor from a soap opera; all they needed now was music and the drama would be complete.
Bella could not hold back her giggles, and began laughing dotingly. It felt good to express amusement after so long; it was almost as if she was jovial again. Nonetheless, she was confused. Why hadn't Embry heard him coming? Shouldn't he have known that Seth was on his way up?
Seth grinned at Bella, and then glanced down at Embry, his expression changing into a frown. "Dude, what are you doing on the floor?"
Embry shot him a glare. "What does it look like?" He snorted. "I'm having a fucking party."
Seth looked confused. "You need to sit on the floor to party?" Seth blinked repeatedly. "Why would you even party at a time like this?! Don't you care about Bella?!" Seth was pointlessly becoming very annoyed, and Bella was enjoying this too much to tell him that Embry was just being sardonic in a classic Embry fashion.
Embry sighed and rolled his eyes, dropping his act. "Of course I care about Bella. I'm on the floor because you put me there. You knocked me down."
Seth blinked again. "Ohhh. So, you aren't partying?" He said adorably, still flummoxed.
"No. You idiot. Duh." Embry got to his feet, and seated himself beside Bella, and they both watched Seth expectantly, inquiring his purpose for entering her room.
Seth stared back, clueless, being the cutie he was. "What?"
"Why are you here, dude?"
Understanding flashed in Seth's eyes. "Oh, Rachel sent me to explain the plan to you."
Bella nodded at him. "What's the plan about then? You mentioned Emb and I before you were interrupted…"
Immediately getting excited, Seth shut the door, and seated himself at the base of the bed, gesturing Bella and Embry to sit against the headboard so he could explain. They complied, and Seth began.
"So, as I was saying before I was so rudely interrupted…This plan involves jealousy, and it could be the key to Jacob realizing his hidden feelings for Bella."
"Wait a moment." Embry cut across, looking conflicted and diverged. "Why do we have to plan all this out? Why can't Bella just go to Jacob and tell him she loves him?" He asked, scratching his scalp.
Seth abruptly looked miserable, and oddly forlorn. "It's not as easy as that." He murmured almost inaudibly. "It's difficult to even work up the courage to go to that person…and tell them you love them, knowing you could get rejected."
Embry still didn't grasp what he was trying to say though was watching Seth queerly. "Yeah, but is rejection really that bad? It can't hurt too much. At least the person still cares for you." Confusion laced his tone.
Bella turned her gaze to her ground at Embry's words. Did that mean she was weak? Jacob cared for her, right? Was she asking too much? Moreover, why did Seth sound so upset?
Seth shook his head vehemently, making Bella glance at him. "No, your inner turmoil eventually gets the better of you, and you just shatter, it's hard to go on. You're all messed up inside." He pronounced these words with a sense of slight longing.
He locked eyes with her, his eyes bright and vaguely moist. "It's even worse when the one you love, quite possibly loves another. Being rejected by the one you love can leave you broken. And devoid of feeling. And every day you're hoping you're fooling everyone with your false happy façade, because you don't want them to know, and mock you for it, because it's different. Because what you feel isn't normal." He covered his face with his hands, hiding his eyes from them, being caught up in the vehemence of the words.
Bella was stunned. She was completely and utterly admonished. Such soulful words…Such poignant words she never expected to fall from Seth's mouth. Seth of all people. He'd moved her to tears. Her face was dripping wet. Embry's mouth was hanging open, completely agape, he was also in shock.
Bella felt her heart clench for Seth. The way he'd spoken. As if he'd been speaking for himself…as if he'd been through all of it. Was it possible? Was it possible that her sweet little Seth was in love too?
"Seth….if you don't mind me asking…Who is it?" Bella found herself asking quietly.
Seth raised his head, and looked at her his eyes now bloodshot and emotionless. "Later, I'll tell you later. This isn't about me, Bella. We have to get this plan going. It'll work. Trust me on this one." His eyes seemed to be pleading with hers to trust him. Bella nodded right away, she trusted Seth with her life. If he wanted time, she'd give it to him.
"Embry, do you understand now?" Seth asked, turning his attention to Embry.
Embry nodded still seeming considerably stunned. "Yeah. Yeah. I understand-" Embry then froze his eyes wide and alert. "Oh shit. Maisy just arrived…"
Bella completed his sentence quite easily, but with unease in her tone. "…Which means Jacob will be here soon, please carry on, Seth."
Seth gladly did, and seemed reassured to be off the subject of his love life. "Well, you might not like this but you have act like a couple. It is the only way Jacob will reveal anything. You could say that Bella was going to leave but Embry convinced her to stay because they like each other. Just keep up the façade, and you'll be fine." Seth paused, scanning their faces before continuing.
"Just do things to suggest you love Embry and not Jake, and that may spark something. You had your attention on Jacob and he knows that, so this time do the same for Embry. You guys okay with that?" Seth explained the entire plan, ending on the question.
Embry turned to Bella, searched her eyes for any sign of disinclination, and found none. "You okay with this, Bells? I don't want you to do this if you don't want too. You're like my older little sister."
Bella shook her head, and patted his hand. "It's okay. I'm fine with it. And you're like my brother Embry; I don't want you to feel obliged to help me. I'm so grateful I don't know what to say."
"No, I want to help you." Embry replied to Bella, with a smile. Seeming slightly alarmed. "And, no problem. Anytime."
Seth looked towards the door. "I can hear a motorcycle pulling up. Jake just arrived."
They then both nodded at Seth, and he beamed at them, although it seemed forced. "That's great."
Bella began to get fearful. "Oh I hope this works." She beseeched to herself.
Embry sent a determined smile her way. "It has to work. We'll make it work."
Seth nodded at the door. "You gotta go." His eyes were slightly apprehensive.
Embry hopped off the bed, and held out his hand, grinning flirtatiously. "Mi-lady?"
Bella chuckled and took it, following Embry in the direction of her closed bedroom door. Upon opening it, Bella twisted back to Seth who was still seated at the base of the bed, yet appearing mournful. "You coming, Seth?"
"Yeah dude. Come on." Embry agreed.
Seth shook his head, and bit his bottom lip. "Naa. I'm okay. I think I'll just sit here and think. Good luck." He sent them a strained grin, and then turned his gaze to Bella's bed.
Bella and Embry shared an anxious look as they left the room, and headed down the stairs. Seth needed help. The poor guy was suffering.
*End of Flashback*
Bella was pulled back to Earth with someone calling her name. She blinked repeatedly before her gaze focused on Jacob, who was watching her with worry, shock, and something she couldn't describe. Was it longing?
"Bells." Jacob's eyes scanned her face as though they were searching for something. "I'm so confused. You said you were leaving, I came to stop you. And I find out you're dating Embry?" Jacob's voice held a lot of despondency, alongside mystification. "Explain it, please. I don't want to hear it from anyone but you."
Bella stared back at Jacob with similar feelings churning inside her. She stared at the man she loved with all heart, body and soul, knowing he was the only one for her. At this point, she could only hope this new discovery about hers and Embry's relationship had stirred something deep within him.
She took a deep breath and began.
"Embry is the one that convinced me to stay, you see. I felt left out. Secluded. Like I didn't belong. You and Maisy, my best friends had forgotten all about me, and I felt so alone. Leaving felt like the only option at the time. Embry helped me understand that I did matter to everyone…maybe not as much to you or Maisy, but everyone else. I'm so much happier now, and that's all thanks to Embry and everyone else."
Jacob's expression altered in a split second. From confusion to utmost alarm. "Never ever say that you mean nothing to me. You're everything to me, Bells. You're my best friend, and so much more." Jacob wiped his face with both hands, and run them through his hair. "I know that sorry doesn't mean shit at this point, but I am, really fucking sorry. I'll do anything to make it up to you. Anything. I was stupid." Bella could tell that he was pleading now.
"Anything?" Bella repeated, locking her chocolate brown eyes with Jacob's gorgeous obsidian ones.
"Yes, anything."
"Okay. Tell me why you did it." Bella didn't need his apologies. She needed his explanation. Albeit, knowing this was all Maisy's hand as she had kept Jacob away for weeks. Bella wanted to see if Jacob would reveal that in front of everyone. She wanted to witness the courage that he'd boasted about months ago.
Jacob, for once, looked helpless. He glanced round at Maisy with a piercing look, which she returned with a swift shake of her head and wide horrified eyes. Jacob glared at her, and then peeked around the room at all his friends that were watching him enquiringly, and inquisitively. He sighed, and anew locked eyes with Bella.
"I…needed help with something. Something that was getting hard to deal with…" Jacob trailed off, looking uncomfortable.
"You needed help and you went to that, slut?!" Rachel screeched suddenly. "You had all of us, and yet you chose her?!" She looked absolutely livid. She was shaking. Chest heaving up and down rapidly.
"I was helpless!" Jacob shot back at his sister, and then he sobered down, pacifying his harsh breathing which was almost as extreme as hers was. "I had no choice. None of you guys could have helped me with it."
Bella watched, filled with anguish, and worry. Jacob was having trouble? Did this mean they weren't actually dating? She suddenly felt more hopeful, even though it was wrong. She couldn't help it. What was Jacob struggling with? Why couldn't they help?
She found herself staring at Rachel with enquiring eyes. She seemed to be enraged, fierce fury was clear on her face. What was wrong with her? Bella watched as Rachel turned her attention from Jake, and glanced to the side, flexing her fingers repeatedly before curling her hands into tight balls.
"What did you need help with, Jake?" Quil asked him tentatively. "Can't you at least tell us?"
Jacob covered his face with his hands, and shook his head, a clear response that he couldn't, therefore Quil turned to Maisy, watching her questioningly.
Maisy began to bite her lip, and shook her head too. "Well, I don't know. Jacob won't tell me. He said he'll let me know once he's figured it out." Her expression was one of uneasiness.
Her response had the entire room frowning in confusion. Why would Jake ask for Maisy help, but not tell her what he needed it for? What could be so bad? What the hell was going on? What the hell did he need to figure out?
Finally, 30 seconds later, which felt like a century, raising his head Jacob scanned the room with weary eyes. "I can't tell you... I need to deal with this on my own. I need to figure this out on my own."
"What could be so embarrassing that you won't even tell us?" Paul spoke up, frowning. "We're your friends, dude, and have been since you learned how to walk."
"It isn't embarrassing. It's actually confusing as fuck. I can't even try…I don't get it myself." Jacob shifted from one foot to another uncomfortably, not meeting anyone's gaze.
Bella reached out, frazzled by the fact that Jacob Black could experience discomfiture, confidence was literally his middle name, and it seemed so out of character for him. She placed a hand on his arm. "Jake, Paul is right. We're your friends. You can tell us."
Jacob's cheeks got darker as Bella's hand ran down his muscular bicep. She could feel the strong chiseled muscles beneath her tips, as she trailed her fingers down, Goosebumps began to form on his luscious russet complexion. He seemed to shiver from her touch, swallowing nosily, his Adam's apple bobbing. As she removed, her hand to see what would happen, unsurprisingly, his cheeks got considerably lighter. She felt elated at his response to her touch. She made him blush? Bella found herself staring at Jacob in something along the lines of awe…What was happening here? She could not prevent her mind from analyzing the situation.
Without meeting Bella's avid gaze, Jacob locked his eyes with Paul. "Paul, you know what this is about. You know exactly… what this is about." Jacob was watching him with an uncanny and hopeful look, as if he wanted him to realize something. Bella found herself frowning at the use of emphasis on the word 'exactly'. She couldn't make sense of anything at the moment.
Paul's eyes widened in shock, and what looked like complete elation. A giant grin gracing his lips. Bella realized he knew what Jacob was talking about.
"No way. No fucking way."
"It's true."
"Oh my god!" Paul almost squealed. His voice raising several octaves. His hands had fitted into fists, and he was shaking them up and down excitedly. "This is awesome! I always wanted this to happen!""
Jacob stared at him, raising an eyebrow, as a half smile flitted across his lips. "Always?"
Paul sobered down, his cheeks darkening. "Umm…yeah."
"Err… Rachel, I think you should keep your boyfriend tied on a leash here, just in case he runs off to bat for the other team." Leah told Rachel sneakily, making the implication obvious as she elbowed her playfully. Rachel frowned, and snorted, rolling her eyes.
Apparently, Paul got it too, and his hands dropped to his sides. He whipped round to glare at Leah. "Funny. Very funny." He told her in a humorless tone
Leah shrugged. "I try."
Paul turned to Jacob. "But why her of all people?" He frowned, and then understanding hit him hard, casing his eyes to widen in shock. "Wait…You don't think…"
He trailed off but Jacob seemingly understood. "Yeah, that's what I've been thinking. I need to find out more before I can confirm anything though. It's damn puzzling."
Paul shook his head. "Wow!" He exclaimed. The wildness in his eyes was freaking Bella out, and it only increased her frustration. "I'll help you. Just tell me what you need!"
Jacob exhaled in what seemed like relief. "Thank you."
Paul frowned then, as though he grasped something. "Why didn't you ask for my help before? Why her?" He pointed at Maisy.
"Well, my situation is a little different. She was the only thing that came to mind…You know, because she's…" Jacob trailed off; as though he realized that, he and Paul were not alone.
"Okay. Will someone please tell me what the fuck is going on?" Maisy screamed abruptly, breaking the moment between Jacob and Paul. In addition, shattering the momentary happiness in the room. "What does Paul know? What are you hiding? What is happening? I need an explanation, okay! We all do!"
Bella wanted to scream the exact same words aloud; however, she kept her cool and observed silently. If she did that, then she'd be no different to Maisy, well, aside from the fact that Maisy was a slut.
"Shut the fuck up, you whore." Rachel spat just then.
Bella jumped, instantly startled and glanced directly at Rachel in trepidation. Had she accidentally said these thoughts out load?
She was then relieved to find that Rachel was speaking to Maisy and not Bella, she was glaring at her, positively irate. Bella held back a sigh of liberation, and took a deep breath, opening her mouth to speak, this as her opportunity to prove that she had come out of hiding, and was not going to be a meek little mouse any longer.
"Jake, Paul…you do realize that you're not making sense to anyone. Can you explain?" Bella spoke confidently, however keeping her voice sweet, and not too firm.
Jacob and Paul glanced at her, though Jacob only discretely before the two of them exchanged a look. Jacob sighed and turned to Bella. He moved closer to her, stopping only when they were a few meters apart. He reached out, and grasped both of her hands in her own, gripping them tightly. He leaned down, moving nearer and nearer until Bella could feel his warm minty breath on her face.
Her heart skipped a beat. Oh God, he is so close…
A deafening silence spread throughout the room. A distant ticking could be heard alongside the vigorous howling of the wind. Obsidian stared into chocolate. Concealed yearning, and heart wrenching unease against amorous love, and zealous concern. Bella felt as though she was staring into a starry sky on an enchanted night.
The face that was simply a few inches above hers was her dream come true. Her fairy tale dream. Meaning that it was almost impossible.
She supposed that she should have been grateful that he was here with her right now, looking into her eyes and clutching her sweaty hands. But, no. It was not enough that he was here right now. No, that would never be enough. Enough it would be, when he was hers.
Yes, she had said when, and not if.
"I'm sorry, Bells." Jacob finally spoke after minutes of merely scanning her face as though he hadn't seen it in centuries. "I'll tell you as soon as I possibly can, as soon as I figure out what's happening." He backed up his apology. "I don't understand it myself." It seemed to Bella that he was leaning closer.
She had not been expecting anything less. Whatever this thing was, Bella could see that it was perceptibly fundamental; therefore she wasn't going to pry. She would give Jacob the liberty that he needed. In general, the old Bella would not have done this, she would have cried, pleaded, stooped as low as beseeching, nevertheless, this Bella knew that Jacob wanted her physically. She was more than willing to give him time. The desire in his eyes was unmistakable. Currently, they had to do whatever they could to awaken the rest of his feelings.
Bella made up her mind then, and pulled her fingers from his tight grasp and wrapped them around herself, slipping back into Embry's welcoming and open embrace. "I understand. Whenever you are ready Jake, come find me then." She took a deep breath, already regretting the words she was going to pronounce, however stayed firm because she knew she had too, for the sake of their imminent future. "Until then, I don't think we should see each other."
She jammed her eyes shut as these words slipped from her lips.
What the fuck are you doing? Her heart screamed at her.
She wanted to take them back. She wanted to give in. she wanted to spill everything right there just as Embry has suggested. However, she held back…
Think about the plan…Think about the plan! Her mind screamed at her.
Bella turned in Embry's arms and pushed her face into the crook of his neck. Embry's warm arms immediately encircled her, rubbing her back soothingly. She was surprised to find that she found his musky scent calming. It wasn't Jacob, but it was different. She felt a rush of peace settle over her.
She was avoiding Jacob's reaction, as she knew it would shatter her, and right now, she couldn't afford to break down. It would ruin everything. She had finally found the will to live again, therefore, she was not having that all go to waste.

Leah hated that the room was so silent. Just after the melodramatic encounter between Jake and Bella, where she had literally seen sparks fly. Everyone was just staring at Bella and Embry, who were hugging. Whilst Jake was practically seething…just staring, just glaring. Not making a sound or a movement. Bella's final sentence seemed to have left him frozen and speechless. She could basically see the intense jealousy brewing behind his well-guarded brown eyes. He definitely did not hide his emotions well.
Leah felt that she had attentive eyes (well, all the wolf pack did) but, she felt that hers were better than most. Therefore, as everyone feasted on the Jacob and Bella drama with their utmost attention, she had elected herself the watch person for Whorsy.
The little slut was also staring at the drama scene. And boy was she pissed. Maisy's hands has curled into balls so tight, thin blue and green veins could be seen on her pale hands. A coppery metallic scent was emanating from her palms, meaning that she had dug in her fingernails that deep that they had pierced her flesh, and caused her to bleed. Leah didn't care too much about that. She wasn't a leech; blood got no reaction from her. However, she was uneasy about Whorsy's motives. How was she going to react? Would she make Jacob phase? Would there be disaster and calamity? Leah sincerely hoped there wouldn't be.
Regardless of having almost 100 percent of her attention on Whorsy, her mind kept relapsing back to the events that had occurred earlier today. That wretched meeting that was plaguing her mind constantly, she wanted so badly to say and confirm that it was bullshit, but she just could not because there was something about the way Old Quil had said it. As if he had known what could happen.
It still did not make much sense to her. Powers? Were they serious? The concept was laughable, as if they weren't freaks enough.
A movement of out of the corner of her eye caught her attention, and all her vigilant senses centred in the direction of Maisy, immediately on alert.
Maisy had turned away from Jacob and Bella, instead slowly headed towards the table where all the refreshments had been laid out. Leah automatically followed her just as slowly. Maisy reached down, and lifted up a small object 4-inch object. A cell phone.
"Why is my phone here?" She asked the room, pulling their attention from Bella and Jake. "I've been going mad searching for it, how did it get here?"
At her words, every person in the room, with the exception of Jacob, turned in her direction. Even Bella entangled herself from Embry to see why Maisy sounded so enraged. Maisy stared every person down, anger alight on her dainty features
Now Leah was perplexed, she felt confusion clouding her mind. What on Earth was happening? Why did Whorsy's demeanor alter so hastily? This is weird. Leah could not deny it. Did she have a split personality disorder or something?
Out of the corner of her eye, Jacob knelt down and picked up the note Bella had written earlier when she'd actually had the intention of leaving. Jacob had visibly paled. Leah could see the multiple expressions that rolled across his face as he took in the written words. He finally settled on extreme sadness and regret so intense Leah felt her heartache. She had to do something about this. She knew she had too,…but what?
As Leah's mind whirred for a solution, she could see Quil shifting uncomfortably, in the direction of the door. He was unable to conceal the guilt that was etched on his features. Maisy was watching in his direction, with her eyes narrowed. He was surely screwed.
"Where are you going, Quil?"
Quil froze at the door, and turned in her direction, pale. "I was…uhhh…gonna…err…" He could not get his words out.
As everyone remained silent, watching the drama, Maisy seemed to have gained some strength, causing everyone but Jacob to stare at her and Quil like a tennis match. My attention was drawn away, to Seth upstairs, he seemed to be moving…oh, and he was descending the stairs!
"Quil, you're acting suspicious…" Maisy stated, staring Quil down
"No, I'm not!"
"Yes, you are. Tell me, Quil. Did you take my phone?"
Quil had turned to stone, figuratively, just frozen in place, seeming dumbfounded and lost for words. "I did take your phone…" He admitted surprisingly after several moments of hesitation. "Yes, I took it-"
"-Accidently." Seth's voice finished for Quil as he entered the living room, and stood beside him. "It's my fault actually, you two have very similar cells, and Quil told me to get his yesterday at the beach…I think I accidently took yours."
Maisy's face softened. "Oh. Well. I'm sorry that I jumped to conclusions so quickly." She bowed her head, suddenly embarrassed that she'd made such a huge deal about it. Her expression, the way she held herself, the look in her eyes…Oh fuck no. Leah hit a sudden realization. Maisy fucking Holder was sweet on her brother. This piece of information seemed to burn holes into Leah's mind. She was going to kick Maisy's ass.
Quil seemed to catch on with the story, and questioned. "If that's Maisy's cell. Then where's mine?" This was a complete lie, because Quil didn't have a phone.
Maisy shrugged, and then glanced around. She blushed and her eyes widened when she realized the entire room, was watching her. She smoothed out her hair, and began to move towards the door. "Well, I think I should take my leave. Jake, you coming?"
Jacob glared at her irately, scrunching the letter into a ball in his fist. "Fuck no. I'm staying right here."
Maisy's mouth dropped open. "But Jake…Remember what we agreed on? You need me."
"That didn't mean shit! I have Paul to help me. I'm done with you!"
Maisy just stared at him.
Leah chose this moment to speak. "Wait a fucking second…I thought you were here to apologize? Cough up the apology, bitch, we want to carry on with our party."
"Party?" Jacob asked. "Why…Why are you still having the party? I thought Bella was staying…you are staying right Bells?" Jacob seemed to be pleading; there was an earnest tone in his voice.
Bella avoided his gaze, her eyes glaring at the ground instead. Embry came to her rescue, slipping his hand into hers. "She is staying. We wanna have the party anyway to celebrate our relationship." Embry sent Bella an adoring smile, which she returned with a nervous one.
A visible tremor ran through Jacob at Embry's words. He cleared his face of emotion, and nodded stoically. "Oh. Right. Well then, I'll just go…" It was awkward; Jacob began to move in the direction of Maisy, whose face lit up as he came towards her, although his pace was slow, as if he didn't want to leave.
"Jake?" Bella stopped him with her voice. "Stay, the party won't be the same without you."
Hope shone on Jacob's face as he turned towards Bella. "You sure? I mean I've been a shithead these past few months…I thought you'd be sick of me by now. What I did isn't passable."
Bella shook her head, smiling at him. "Whatever needs sorting out, deal with it. Hey, Paul's helping you, that's great. However, you're still my best friend. Always will be. I will never get sick of you."
Jacob watched her intensely. "You'll always be my best friend too, but you said we shouldn't see each other…I…I was trying to obey that-"
Bella cut him off with a shake of her head. "I can't stay mad at you." She left it at that, and then hugged him tightly.
Jacob grinned at her dotingly, as he returned the hug. Pulling her tightly into his arms, they both seemed to have forgotten that they were not alone. However, Embry brought then back to reality.
"Dude." He tugged Bella gently from Jacob's arms, who narrowed his eyes and seemed to hold her tighter. "No one but me gets to hold my girl that long." Embry sent Bella a possessive smile; it was false, but very well orchestrated.
Bella slipped from Jacob's arms, and into Embry's, ducking her head. "Yep. Em's rules."
This annoyed Jacob further. "Rules?" He questioned. "He gets to decide who hugs you?"
"Yep." Paul answered for Bella. "He's taken away all of my hugging privileges!"
"Hugging privileges!"
Embry glared at Paul. "Obviously dickhead. You tend to fondle at times."
Paul smiled a sly smile. "Oh well, She doesn't mind…"
This time Bella glared at Paul. "Actually I do mind! Hands to yourself Paul!"
Rachel swatted Paul on the arm, annoyance and amusement covering her features. "Keep away from the girl Honey." She glared at him irately, causing his expression to change and skin to pale.
He nodded obediently. "Yes, sweetie." He muttered with a gulp. "I was kidding."
Rachel nodded dismissively. "Right." She said in dry tone.
"I was!"
"I believe you."
"I'm not lying!"
"Of course you aren't."
Everyone but Maisy burst out laughing. The room's tension seemed to disperse.
"Bella…Can I talk to you? Privately?" Maisy was now standing by Jacob's side, a pathetic heart-wrenching look on her face.
Rachel turned to her. "No. whatever you need to say, you say it in front of everyone."
Maisy's eyes slid to Rachel, and then back to Bella, she swallowed nosily, keeping up the act before clasping Bella's hands in her own. "I have been the shittiest best friend in the world; no fuck that, in the universe." She sniffed dramatically. "I'm so sorry, for everything. Please say… please say you'll forgive me."
Leah found herself rolling her eyes, as the rest of the room seemed to be holding their breath. It was silent, as Bella scanned Maisy's face with an unreadable expression.
Rachel couldn't stand the tension though, and rushed forward, shoving Maisy away from Bella. "No." she said calmly, a thousand threats immersed in that one word. "Get the fuck out of here." The coolness of her voice was scary.
Maisy looked at Bella in desperation, a pleading look on her face. "Bella, I'm really sorry. Please." she was ignoring Rachel as much as she could.
Rachel wasn't happy about that, and spoke up anyway. "No. Leave. Now."
Maisy began to get annoyed. "I was talking to Bella. This is her house." She began to reach for Bella's arm, to which Bella flinched and leaned into Embry.
Leah had had enough, and grabbed Maisy by the arm that was reaching for Bella. "Okay. You can leave now; your apology is over and done with."
Rachel nodded, and took Maisy by the other arm. "Let's go Ho."
Maisy's eyes widened in shock as she realized what was happening. Leah and Rachel lifted her up, and began to carry her out of the room. Maisy struggled and fought, attempting to pull her arms from the two girls' grasp, nevertheless, they held on as they carried her out.
"No. Put me down. What the fuck, no!" She struggled and pulled, turning very red in the face. However, her writhing and fighting didn't do much as she yelled at them to stop. Nevertheless, they did not; they kept going until she was outside. Leah and Rachel set her down in front of her car.
"Get in the car, and leave!" Leah pointed at it, raising her eyebrows threateningly.
Maisy shook her head wildly, her blonde hair flying back and forth. "NO!"
Rachel seemed to puff up and turn red; she clenched her fists, letting a hasty breath slip between her gritted teeth, and then kneeling on the floor beside Maisy who glowered back with a disgusted expression.
"If I were you, Maisy Holder. I'd listen. Because a certain someone here knows all yours secrets. Every. Single. One."
Maisy's glare only got more intense, and her fist flew through the air, punching Rachel across the face. Rachel skittered back, and sank to her knees, releasing a growl that couldn't be described at human. Leah stared at her in horror, as her eyes began to glow and muscles began to spasm.
It made sense now. All of it. It was all slowly piecing itself together in Leah's mind. …Siblings…Alphas…Powers…Rachel and Jacob.
It wasn't her and Seth. In fact, it had never been her and Seth. Of course not!
"What the fucking is happening? Is she the Incredible Hulk?" Maisy screeched, her high-pitched tone filled with terror as she rose to her feet and took several hesitant steps backwards.
Shit. She'd forgotten about Maisy. How could she deal with this?
Rachel's screams only got stronger, nothing but pure pain exploding from her mouth. She seemed to shake immensely, her human body unable to bear the pain of the phase. Leah did the first thing that came to her head and fisted her hand, and whacked Maisy on the head. Her eyes rolled backwards, and she fell to the floor, unconscious.
Everyone had come from Bella's house and was now in her doorway. However, instead of Rachel, there remained a small russet wolf with black spots covering her body.
"Holy fucking shit!" came an unfamiliar male voice. There was a gasp from Seth.
Then literally, everyone froze. They were in trouble. Somebody had seen it all happen.
