The bell's ring echoed through the empty halls, signaling the end of the school day. Beyond was the quickest to exit the classroom, happy to leave. He stopped once in the hall and looked over his shoulder to make sure Light was behind him. The brunette was smirking to himself as he packed up his things and checked that his Death Note was still in his back pocket, counting down the minute as he walked towards the classroom door. '23, 24, 25..' B was about to ask why he was counting but immediately remembered; the Death Note. He could see the old friend up ahead of them and smirked slightly, the lifespan above his head wasn't even a minute.
Light quickly put his things away before they followed behind his old friend out the front of the school. '53, 54, 55..' He thought to himself, glancing up at the school clock before a scream erupted close to them. Beyond was looking down at his watch when the seconds ticked and flinched when he heard the scream. His head immediately snapped up in the direction it came from.
Light didn't even move what the screaming continued, watching his old friend fall to him knees, clutching his chest as a few of his equally rotten friends watched in horror. His amber eyes were narrowed with a slight tinge of red, and a smirk on his lips. He didn't know why, but he got a rise out of killing those who had done him wrong.
B watched as the male collapsed on the floor, never to move again. His friends rambled in panicked voices, Beyond had to cover his mouth to keep from laughing out loud. He glanced over to Light, his eyebrows raised at the look on his face. He couldn't say he didn't like it.. But it still didn't sit right with him. He'd have to make sure this kill was only one exception, and Light wouldn't slip back into his old ways..
The brunette wanted to scream at them, to tell them that he deserved it. That he shouldn't have messed with Kira! And he almost did before one of his friends looked up at them with blazing eyes."You did this didn't you?! Kira! Murderer!" He screamed frantically, advancing towards Light.
"Hey." Beyond glared at the male, stepping in between him and Light. "Back off. Raito Yagami is not Kira, and I'm getting real tired of this bullshit that he is. Your friend deserved it, now get the fuck out." His friend glared harshly, clearly furious as he stood in front of Beyond. "I wasn't talking to you. I was talking to your queer little boy-" "He deserved it!" Light interrupted harshly, "He deserves even more than death! If he is dead, and if you still want to believe that I'm Kira.. Then you should be worried for your own life!"
B smirked and glanced over to Light, spinning back around to face the friend. "Couldn't have said it better myself... Now, why don't you run along.. If not you'll probably wish you did." He gripped the knife in his bookbag, careful to keep it out of anyone's eyesight for the moment. He knew this kid wouldn't leave, and he'd get to satisfy his need for blood. Light's darkened brown eyes glared at him harshly as he took a step back."I'm not scared of Kira!" The male yelled, voice slightly wavering.
Beyond grinned and shrugged, "Fine.. Perhaps you're not. I know you're lying, but perhaps you're not.. Would you be scared of.. this?" He pulled the big knife from his bag, flipping it expertly between his two fingers as he never broke eye contact with the other. The brunette's eyes widened slightly, glancing up at Beyond, almost unsurely. So B planned on killing him.. The student froze. "You wouldn't dare bring that anywhere near me!" He yelled.
"Really? I wouldn't? Hm.." The raven chuckled and, with one quick movement, dashed forward slamming and pinning the student against the wall. "Perhaps you might think again.." Light froze and his muscles tensed up from the action, knowing everyone else was too distracted from the death he caused to see this. The student struggled, eyes frantically searching. "You wouldn't have the nerve! Wha-What is wrong with you?!" He screamed.
"I don't know, no one could figure it out." B's grin spread to match his laugh, the look in his eyes had changed. It was now one of a mad man. There was no turning back now, blood had to be spilled. He bit his lip excitedly and touched the blade to his soon to be victim's neck. "Accept death.. It's coming for you.." He laughed.
Light felt a shudder run down his spine, feeling suddenly uneasy, he took a step back and swallowed. "Beyond Birthday.." He muttered, testing his alias. He hated how it sounded. "Stop!" He suddenly screamed and rushed forward. "He hasn't done anything!" He seized the knife by the blade and shoved it back, enough for the student to stumble away in a sprint. "He didn't do anything.." Light whispered, making eye contact with the insane-looking raven, his own amber eyes fearful.
"No!" Beyond growled, even his voice didn't sound the same anymore. It was one full of rage to match his facial expression. He then harshly brushed off Light and started to chase the one Light let go away. He could not escape. Light's eyes widened and he quicky wiped off the blood onto his pants, rushing off after the raven. "Damn it, stop!" He chased Beyond through streets and alleyways before finally catching up and tackling his to the ground. "Snap out of it!" He snapped harshly, trapping the raven under him and glaring down at him with angry eyes.
Beyond thrashed for a bit underneath him. He might have even raised the knife to the other before realizing it was Light, the one he loved. He blinked a few times and seemed to turn back to normal and less crazed. "Light..?" Light's glare never left Beyond's crazed crimson red eyes. "You complete and utter idiot! Don't go killing innocent people! Especially in broad daylight!" He screamed at the other, angry tears brimming in his amber eyes.
B opened his mouth to speak but quickly shut it. He sighed, most of what he did was a blur but he saw blood so it must've been bad. "I love you?" He tried. Light frowned down at him for a moment before standing and turning away, beginning to walk in the direction they had came. "Come on. We're going home" He stated in a blunt tone, clearly upset with him.
B nodded and jumped up, running and catching up with him. He walked quickly behind him with his head down and hands stuffed in his pockets. That kid was lucky Light stopped him, however the next victim would not be. Beyond knew he wasn't sorry, knew he would pretend his next victim was that kid just to make himself feel better. "Light.. I'm sorry.." He touched the younger's arm. Light shook his head, but clearly forgave Beyond by the way he slipped his hand into the raven's and intertwined their fingers, giving it a squeeze.
"..You know that kid's gonna run and tell someone, you pretty much screwed both of us over." B spoke after a moment in silence. "I doubt it.." The brunette rolled his eyes slightly, glancing over to the school as they passed by it once again. Light glanced down between them at their hands and sighed, slumping his shoulders. He'd let it slide.. Just this once. B kept walking looking straight ahead, rubbing his thumb in slow circles on the back of Light's hand.. All the while thinking of how his next kill would go. He couldn't sleep or even eat jam until that happened.
"..I dont want you killing innocent people." Light spoke sternly, breaking the silence between them as he turned his head to look at the older male. "So, if you want to kill someone.. Go find a robber, a rapist, a drug dealer, etc... Someone. Just not innocent people. Understand?" He spoke harshly, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Look at me." B raised an eyebrow, Light didn't mind the killing act just the person who would die.. This was surprising.. Usually innocent people had better looks of fear on their faces but.. He sighed and looked into Light's eyes.
"Understood."

Light sighed deeply as he sat back in his chair, throwing his pen down onto the piles of books he had just been using to study with and glancing over to his bed where Beyond had fallen asleep an hour ago. The brunette stood quietly and walked over to the bed, running his fingers through the raven's bangs to brush them away from his closed eyelids. Beyond was curled up on the bed in his usual position, thumb resting on his lower lip as he occasionally mumbled about various things in his dream. He felt someone touch him and only tensed up for a second before realizing it was probably Light. He unknowingly leaned into the touch, while continuing to sleep. The face he had when he slept was one so innocent he couldn't be suspected of being a serial killer.
Light smiled faintly and gently pulled his thumb away from his mouth, leaning down and pressing a soft kiss to his lips before grabbing a book of his desk and slowly making himself comfortable on the other side of his bed. B slept for a few minutes longer before he started to stir awake. He rubbed his eyes and looked around the room, smiling slightly once he spotted Light. "Hello." The brunette looked up from his book and blinked slowly, "Oh, did I wake you?" He asked quietly, raising a brow.
Beyond shook his head. He didn't want to sleep any longer anyway, he had.. business to tend to. He slowly sat up and scooted closer to Light, leaning over to kiss him. Light blinked and few times but kissed back, only slightly surprised at the loving gesture. "Ah, you can sleep longer if you want to.." He mumbled softly.
"No, that's alright. You should get some sleep though, it's pretty late. As for me.. I have to go buy more jam." B improvised his own lie on the spot, even though he clearly hadn't run out of strawberry jam yet. Light nodded slowly, an unsure look on his face. He had a feeling that wasn't what Beyond was going to do. "Alright.. You're sure you dont want me to come?" He asked. "Yes." B nodded and brushed some of the brunette's hair out of his eyes before he kissed his forehead, "I love you."
"Love you too-" Light's eyes widened and his flustered once again."I wish you'd cut that out.." He muttered, huffing softly. B smirked, "Does Light remember what he agreed to earlier?" He trailed his fingers down Light's chest, stopping at his waistline. The brunette's eyes grew slightly wider as he fought down a blush, smacking away the ravens hand with an embarrassed expression on his face. "Just go get your jam." He huffed. Beyond laughed, "Be back in a bit." He passed by the bedside table, quickly snatching his knife before exiting.
B left the house quickly and quietly, pulling up his black hood as he walked down the street. "Lets see.." He looked at the lifespans above people's heads, eventually finding a teenage boy who looked kind of like the kid from earlier. He smirked, this one was supposed to die tomorrow anyway. He began following quickly behind.
Light watched him quietly out the window as he walked down the street before choosing to follow him, leaving the house and quickly tailing him. B unknowingly approached closer behind the soon to be victim, clutching his knife in his hand. He waited until the kid walked in front of an alleyway, quickly pulling him inside and slamming him against the brick wall. His vibrant red eyes shined deviously, the crazed grin returned.
Light's own amber eyes widened as he stopped dead in tracks, he could see exactly what Beyond was doing from where he stood. He was utterly frozen. B chuckled at the tears in the male's eyes, and grinned at his begs and pleads. "Time to die, Eiji." He read the name above his head, pressing the cold blade to his neck. Tears brimmed in Light's eyes at the sight, breath hitching and body shaking as he couldn't force himself to look away.
B let out a crazed giggle, piercing the skin on the other's neck. He watched happily as the blood ran down his skin and knife, slitting his throat smoothly. The raven laughed what he called his shinigami laugh as he watched his victim fall to his knees, choking on his own thick crimson red blood. Light didn't even notice the tears streaming down his face until he let out and uncontrolled sob, the sight absolutely shocking him. This wasn't like Beyond.. The Beyond he knew was loving, considerate and loyal. This just couldn't be him! Was this the real Beyond Birthday? What he was really like, even years before meeting Light? No.. He couldn't have fallen in love with this man!
Beyond couldn't hear him at a time like this, he was too loud with his laughter echoing off the wall. He dropped to the dirty ground with his victim, cutting his throat in a slitting motion before licking the blood off the blade with a satisfied smirk. His luminescent red eyes seemed to glow in excitement. The morbid scene made Light's stomach twist, almost making him retch. He watched with large horrified eyes as Beyond licked the blood off the knife. No, this wasn't Beyond. This was a complete and utter murderer. Something snapped inside of the brunette and he rushed forward, screaming. "Stop it!" He yelled.
B grinned and snapped his head up, ready to make this person his next victim. He licked blood off his lips and his eyes widened if it were possible, seeing his love crying. His expression only softened slightly, blood still stained on his face as his eyes still gleamed. "Light.." The brunette approached him quickly, horrified completely by what he had witnessed, his heart hammering against his chest. He roughly shoved Beyond aside and knelt in a puddle of blood beside the victims side, desperately looking for something to stop the bleeding, even though he knew the kid was long gone.
Beyond laughed at this, his two personalities changing rapidly. One normal, and the psychotic one everyone else knew. One who just wanted love from Light, and one who was too murderous to care about other humans. "He's gone! Light! He's free! He's been freed!" B grinned and licked blood off his blade and fingers, all the while giggling to himself psychotically. Light stared at the teen's faded out eyes a moment longer before turning on the crazed raven, both horrified and furious. "You're sick! What joy do you get out of so ruthlessly killing innocent people?!" He screamed, fisting a hand into Beyond's shirt and yanking him up, raising a fist beside his head, ready to hit the older male. "How could you lie to me?! How can you kill innocent people and not feel bad?!"
Beyond grinned, licking blood off his lips. "I'm sorry Light." He hummed, not looking at all apologetic, but rather proud of himself instead. Suddenly he blinked widely and froze, eyes returning to their normal red. He looked down at the blood on his hoodie and his knife. "Oh.." He seemed to process what he'd done, back to his sane self. Light had mixed emotions, he was both angry and upset, he soon found himself swinging a bloodied fist at the raven. Teary, amber eyes harshly boring into Beyond's as he punched him multiple times. B sat back and calmly allowed Light to hit him repeatedly. He deserved it. Now Light could get it out of his system.
"I'm completely disgusted! Horrifed! How am I supposed to love someone who doesn't consider other people before themselves! It's always going to be what you want, isn't it?!" Light screamed, panting slightly as he let go of Beyond's shirt, stumbling back. "You're a murderer!"
Beyond stared with eyes widened. It was deathly silent for a minute as Light's words sunk in before he collapsed at Light's feet, sobbing uncontrollably. "I know! I know! I'm a psychotic insane crazy murderer who doesn't deserve love! Everyone left me, you should too! You deserve so much better.. Light.."
Light glared for a moment longer before his heart dropped, he couldn't help but want to comfort the shuddering raven. He couldn't help but to understand now. Beyond was constantly being ruled over by his other side, the side Beyond probably hated so much. So Light leant down and slowly pulled the other against him, holding him close."But I do love you.. So much.." He whispered, stroking Beyond's hair as he slipped the raven's knife into his own pocket so he wouldn't be able to use it again before resting his hand on the other's back."I think what we ought to do is find you some medical help.. There's lots of things to help you feel less violent.." His words were comforting, soft and sincere. He wanted the happy, teasing Rue to be there permanently, not half of him being Beyond. "I love you.." He mumbled softly.
B sniffled and clutched tightly to the brunette, as if he might run away. He would've said I love you too, would've continued crying and rambling apologies until he processed Light's suggestion. Get help? He'd done that all his life! "No!" He shook his head violently. "I hate them!" He protested, referring to all the doctors and therapists in mental institutions who tried and failed to cure him. "I hate them! Th-They try to get in my mind, a-and I can't stand them!" Beyond really did want to be normal, for Light's sake, but he just couldn't be alright with this. That other side of him wouldn't allow it.
Light closed his slightly teary eyes tighter and hugged the older male to him. "As much as you don't like them, you have to.." He mumbled quietly, "You'll be alright. They don't want to hurt you, they want to help as well. We'll take you to a proper doctor, not just one from an institution." The brunette stood slowly and took the raven's hand. "Lets get you home.." He said comfortingly, quiet for a few minutes as they walked home before Light spoke again. "Now, next time you feel like you need to do.. that.. You tell me, alright?"
B sniffled and nodded, squeezing Light's hand tightly with his own shaky hand. He was still trembling and it wasn't just because he was cold. The blood. He could still feel and taste it and it felt like his victim's blood was everywhere around him. But this was all normal. What wasn't normal was when someone actually cared, when someone actually stayed with him. That voice inside his head screamed that he was foolish and that he should run away while he still had the chance to escape those doctors. Then again, the voice also screamed to kill again. For once he wouldn't give into it. Beyond stopped and took a shaky sigh. He quickly pulled Light in for a hug, sobs still escaped his lips even though he was trying so badly to contain them. "L-Light.. I love.. y-you.. Don't leave me.. Please..!" He gripped the other's shirt tightly, burying his face in his shoulder. For once he didn't care about crying and whimpering in front of someone else.
The brunette was slightly surprised when he was pulled into the other, arms tightly wrapping around him, soon returning the hug just as tight. "I wouldn't even think about it.." He comforted, "I'll stay with you through it all." Light smiled faintly, it was still an odd feeling to get used to, loving someone so much.. "It'll be okay." Beyond sighed and took a few deep breaths to calm himself. He turned his head slightly while still keeping it on Light's shoulder, so that his voice wouldn't be mumbled. "How did I get so lucky.." And Beyond really did consider himself to be the luckiest person in the world. The brunette blinked slowly, looking down at the older male, a look of surprise on his face. "What do you mean?" He questioned softly, still hugging the raven tightly.
"I am.. The luckiest person in the world to have you, Light. I never thought I'd see the day when someone actually stayed with me after seeing who I really am. I never thought I'd find love again. And yet.. I found it with the most unexpected person. I found love so strong where.. I would do anything for you. I'd die for you." B buried his face back into Light's shirt, he couldn't meet his gaze. Light sighed deeply, biting his lower lip softly. Those words hit him deep. He had killed thousands of people with a notebook. He was Kira. He was amazed that someone would want love him for being Light, not Kira." Then I'm pretty lucky as well.. to have you." He spoke sincerely, a slight smile on his lips. Beyond chuckled, "You can do better." He rubbed his eyes and pulled away from Light's shoulder, only to kiss his lips softly. He didn't realize they still tasted like blood.
"I doubt it." Light paused slightly when lips pressed to his, the taste catching him off guard before he pulled away slowly. "I think we ought to get home and give you a bath." He laughed softly, offering his hand again. B nodded and snickered, taking Light's hand. He squeezed it and started walking, licking his lips. He still enjoyed the taste of blood, always had. Light watched him briefly before sighing. "You're odd though.. There's no doubt about that." He chuckled softly.
"I know." B laughed lightly, "But I believe that's what makes it all fun.." He shrugged and smirked, looking down at the blood stains on his hoodie and pants. He reached into his pocket, realizing Light had taken his special knife. "What makes it all fun?" Light raised an eyebrow, thinking for a moment with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Eh, maybe you're right.."
