Beyond walked home after school with Light on Thursday, taking the other's hand in his own. He'd gotten more used to school now, even if he still preferred staying home. He also memorized his surroundings by now and could probably walk home by himself, not that he wanted to. They were only a few houses away from Light's by now. The younger smiled softly and held onto Beyond's hand, walking slightly in front of him.
They walked up the front steps, Light opening the door and leading them upstairs, where they sat in the brunette's room and studied before he hear loud knocking at the door. B raised an eyebrow, pausing from taking out his blue contacts. He knew it couldn't be Light's mother. He looked over at Light and got up to answer the door. Light blinked slowly, watching the raven leave the room. He got up and stood outside his room, looking down the stairs at the door with a curious expression.
Damn. B looked towards Light, nodding for him to follow. He couldn't answer the front door, what if it was that damn panda?
Light sighed faintly and brushed past him on the staircase, moving towards the front door and opening it. Beyond cursed under his breath once he saw L, ducking behind a wall. He stayed in the other room, checking his contacts again. Hopefully L only needed one quick thing...
The brunette blinked, "Ryuzaki?" He asked, "Did you need something?" The sleep-deprived raven seemed to smirk triumphantly, holding up Light's watch.
"Would this happen to be yours, Light-kun? Perhaps this as well?" L held up a folded piece of the Death Note.
B covered his mouth as he peaked over the corner, seeing the watch and paper. "Shit.." He mumbled to himself. When did Light even drop those?!
Light's eyes grew wide. He opened his mouth to speak, but L bet him to it. "We found them at the warehouse, along with the remains of your phone, Light.. Which had a certain man's - Beyond Birthday's, to be exact - fingerprints on them.." L smiled dangerously. "And funnily enough, he was seen with you only days ago, and is also believed to be staying with you at this very moment.. Judging by school files. Light Yagami, you are under arrest for being Kira and attempting to hide a serial killer." And before he knew it, his wrists were handcuffed and a blindfold over his eyes, hearing a yell to search the house.
"Fuck!"
Beyond jumped out to get to Light but froze seeing other officers with L. He backed up in a run, trying to escape them. But it was no use. He was soon tackled to the ground. And Light had taken his knife... He thrashed a bit underneath them even though it was no use.
Light struggled as he was roughly shoved out the door and towards a police car. Before he was blindfolded, he had spotted his father; A shocked, yet disgusted look on his face. It was enough to make Light want to bawl his eyes out. He was thrown into the back seat of the vehicle.
Beyond resisted the blindfold, snapping his head back and forth and kicking his legs. He'd even tried to bite one of the officer's arms. They slammed him against the wall and were forced to sedate him, making him much more calm and sleepy. They carried him out to the police car, throwing him in the back with Light.
Light flinched slightly when something fell against his side, which he soon figured to be Beyond. After two other people quickly got into the front, they were speeding off down the street. A harsh voice spoke, "You've gone insane, Raito! What were you thinking?!" It was Soichiro, Light's father. The brunette just hung his head, teeth clenching. Beyond couldn't even form words, unintelligent sounds and babbles came from his mouth, although the word 'kill' could be detected. He leaned his head against Light and closed his eyes.
The police car took a sharp turn and forced Light's head to slam into the window hard, dazing him. "I-I'm not.. I'm not.. Kira.." The brunette muttered, beginning to struggle. Light was shaking, to be honest.. He was terrified. He feared that he'd be executed. He wasn't even aware of his surroundings.. He just knew that his head ached and that he wanted to go home. A sudden turn in the passenger seat and a loud slap coming from beside him snapped him out of that state, figuring his Father had just slapped Beyond. "Quit your blabbering!" Soichiro hissed.
B giggled, taking the sting to his cheek with stride. But he complied, mumbling something about wanting strawberry jam before he collapsed onto Light's shoulder, falling unconscious. Light bit his lip hard, flinching again when Beyond slumped against his shoulder, fast asleep, though he continued to struggle. "Let me g-go! I'm n-not Kira!" He snapped.
Soon enough the car stopped, indicating they'd arrived. Both Light and Beyond were grabbed roughly and pulled out from of the car. Light struggled harshly against the hold on him, almost fracturing his wrist in the process. "Let me go!" He ground out, yanking and pulling.
They were ignored and pulled into a building, only now did Beyond start to stir awake, still hazy from being sedated.
"Huh.. Wha..?"
Light suddenly felt extremely panicked, breaths coming out in short gasps, distressed noises bubbling from his lips every few minutes as he attempted to drag his feet. "Help.. Help me! I'm not.. Kira!" He yelled as he was merely shoved along, he no longer know what he was saying. He just knew he wanted to be free. Light continued to struggle uselessly until he was roughed shoved to the ground, a yelp of pain echoing around the large area.
B heard the thud and yelp, automatically knowing it was Light. He thrashed about, despite being held back. "Take the fucking blind folds off and stop this! He's not Kira! Let go or you'll loose an arm!"
Light's jaw hit the concrete hard, yelping out again as a heel pushed hard into his boys wrists behind his back. "Why did you betray us, Light? We trusted you!" It was Matsuda. He sounded upset, but mad at the same time. The police officer stood back and walked over to Beyond, pushing the blindfold off of his head, leaving Light blinded.
Beyond blinked and moved to rub his eyes, hissing when he realized he was handcuffed. His eyes quickly adjusted to the light, focusing on the officers who stood in front of him. Where was L...? He looked around the room and stopped on Light. "Oh my god.."
Light twitched and shuddered, managing to get atleast his knees under him, pulling harshly on the chains. "L will be here shortly.. To interrogate you both." Soichiro spoke sternly before he left, ordering the rest of the officers to leave, but wait outside of the securely locked warehouse until L arrived. The officer holding Beyond threw him roughly to the ground as they forwarded out of the building.
B fell to the floor and rolled over onto his back. "Fuck you." He growled at the officer before having the door slam. He slowly pulled himself up, "Raito..?" He scooted over towards the brunette. "Shit, please be okay.."
The brunette was attempting to push himself to sit back on his heels, groaning and wincing with every stressed noise he made, since he knew one of his wrists was fractured now from Matsuda's heel. One move later caused Light to scream out, he had slipped and fell onto his side harshly. He was tired and distressed, crying underneath the plain black blindfold. There was no hope left for them.. And it was all his fault.
"Stop straining yourself!" Beyond yelled, momentarily forgetting he was handcuffed as he struggled to break free. He flopped back on the floor next to Light, breathing heavily from both struggling and because he was honestly afraid.
"Don't you get it?! Were done! Finished! As good as dead! I don't want to die! I don't want to! I'll get out of this handcuffs.." Light panted out, his voice straining as he gave a sudden harsh yank, yelping slightly at the stabbing pain in his wrist.
"Screaming and hyperventilating are not going to get us out of this, we'll only look guiltier! You don't know anything yet, now stop it and shut up before I kick you."
"The already know so what's there to hide?!" Light hissed, arching his back before he went deadly still, panting slightly and swallowing every few breathes in an attempt to calm himself.
Beyond sighed. He knew the odds were against them. He moved closer to Light, "Just breathe." He wanted so badly to hug the brunette. The brunette's eyes were shut tightly, shuddering slightly as he recalled his fathers disgusted face, angry tears were already staining the blindfold. "Damn it!" Light yelled angrily, hitting his head against the ground. Beyond bit his lip and stayed quiet, laying back on the floor. He wouldn't say anything more. He realized how serious this was and would wait for Light to calm down. He was prepared to do anything to keep Light alive and that included having himself executed instead. Light scowled and rolled onto his back, arching it and pulling on the chains, distressed noises echoing around the warehouse.
Beyond was used to being restrained after being in so many mental asylums and prisons, so he ignored the pain and closed his eyes. He wanted so badly for time to pass quicker.. He should've ignored Light and written that damn panda's name in the Death Note anyway.
Light's teeth clenched at the searing pain in his wrist, but continued yanking on the chains. "My Death Note..! L probably found it already! H-He's seen Ryuk.. He's finally caught me!" The brunette panicked, hyperventilating once more. Beyond pulled hard on his handcuffs, curling his knees up to his chest. If he could just get them over his legs.. He could bend his hands around to the front of him. The more Light started to panic the quicker he tried, and soon did. "Finally.." He mumbled.
The brunette felt more tears burning in his eyes as he let out choked screams, desperate to get out of these horrid handcuffs, "Let me go..!" He choked out, his jaw scraped and bleeding by now. Beyond scooted over behind Light, pulling at the knot on his blindfold. It was taking him longer since Light was thrashing about. "Light, sit still, I'm getting the blindfold off you." He spoke just loud enough so the other could hear. The brunette slowly calmed down, panting heavily and raggedly, eyes shut tightly and shuddering.
B played with the knot for another minute before pulling it off, tossing it carelessly to the floor. He then scooted across the floor to look at Light in the eyes. "Breathe, Light.." Beyond spoke calmly, pulling at the chain on his own handcuffs. It needed a key to unlock but maybe he could break it..
Light's eyes were hazy and worn out, averted elsewere in the large room, unfocused, his chest rising and falling quickly with ragged intakes. "W-We.. Can't just run.. It's an entire.. p-police force.. They'll shoot us.." He murmured, slowly pushing himself up with a wince.
Beyond nodded, "I know. Believe it or not, I did escape even the great L's holding cell once. Eventually we'll get out of here alive. Or you will anyway." He rolled onto his back, kicking at the chain that connected his wrists. "I'm not leaving without you!" Light scowled, looking over at Beyond and watching him closely. Soon enough, he heard another vehicle pull up outside. "Think it's L..?" He asked, panicking again. "Maybe." Beyond shrugged, scooting over to Light. He wasn't afraid of anything L had to ask but he still wanted to be close to Light.
The door opened.
In walked the very L himself, looking just as emotionless but with an undertone of something else. He entered with two policemen for backup and closed the door.
Light looked up at the detective before taking note of the two officers. He had brought in Aizawa and Matsuda. Both of them held their guns towards them. The brunette's eyes were wide and hinted with fear. L eyed the fear in Light's eyes, figuring Beyond had helped him get the blindfold off. He glanced over at the identical raven and bent down to eye level. "It's been awhile hasn't it? Backup?"
B growled, without breaking eye contact. "Don't call me that." To which a smirk flickered on L's lips before returning to a normal straight line.
The brunette watched the two with wide eyes, unable to stop the nervous shudders running up his spine. He turned his head away as he sat back against his calves, frowning slightly. L turned to the younger, "Light Yagami.." He sat on the floor in his crouch position to be eye level. "It would appear I was alright all along.."
Light visibly flinched. Those were the sickening words he never wanted to heard from the raven-haired detective."Shut up." He spat harshly, his amber eyes averted to the side.
L pressed his thumb to his lower lip, studying every movement the two made, including the closeness of the two males. "As you could imagine, I have.. Many questions. However, I would like to start with the situation regarding you both in the warehouse.." His eyes settled back on B. "And the outcome."
The brunette glanced over at L when his emotionless eyes moved back to Beyond, slowly turning his head. "And what would they be, Ryuzaki?" Light scowled, feeling his temper rising.
"When most captives are able to escape, they run. Whether it be straight home or to the police. But you.. You are a different case. Tell me, did a friendship develop? Or perhaps something more?" L eyed Beyond's hand on Light's arm, but Beyond didn't bother to move it.
A faint smirk lifted the brunette's face. "You always did know everything, didn't you, L?" He frowned slightly. "Would you have a probably with that aswell?"
"Hm.. Well there is someone for everyone. What better than two crazy serial killers?" L spoke with narrowed eyes. B growled, a million insults running through his head.
Light froze momomentarily, the insult hitting him hard."I'm not crazy!" He snapped, amber eyes burning into L's. "Oh you're not? I have security tapes and evidence that would beg to differ." L was enjoying getting under both of their skin. "Shut up, L." B snarled, pulling at his handcuffs as if it would make a difference. L chuckled and shook his head.
"I'm.. Not!" Light defended, leaning forward slightly in emphasis. Light could feel tears building up in the back of his eyes again. All of this really was taking an impact on him.
B took a quick glance into Light's eyes, slowly averting his own back to the detective. "L should shut the fuck up before he dies of an unfortunate accident..."
L raised an eyebrow, "Is that a threat?"
"It's a promise." B snapped back, glaring daggers.
Light could feel his breath catch in his throat. This was far too overwhelming.. The brunette suddenly felt extremely tight in the chest, his mind going into overdrive. L sighed, "You seem to forget the power I'm holding, Backup. I could easily send you back to one of those asylums you hated so much or even to an execution along with Light." B huffed, "Of course, you would say execution. Why deal with it? Why not just send every murderer to their deaths! Prison is here for a reason you know. And the right to a fair trial?"
The brunette's head snapped up. "You don't know the first thing about either of us, L! All you see is two murders, when you don't even know what's been going on these past few days! Beyond.. Beyond isn't a murderer! He isn't insane! You don't even know him if that's what you think!" Light spat angrily at the detective, his pained voice echoing around the warehouse.
L kept a calm expression as he waited for Light to finish talking. "But he is insane, and he is a murderer. I have known Beyond for the majority of his life, and ever since Alternate died he's gone down hill. Like a monster who was unleashed. Sad really, he had such a bright future." Beyond grit his teeth, ignoring the insult, "You don't even remember A's name, you bastard!" He reached out to choke L but was quickly pulled back by Matsuda. L wasn't in the least bit fazed.
Light flinched from Beyond's little outburst, but that wasn't enough to get him to back down. "You don't know what he's like now.. He isn't like that anymore!" He defended, gritting his teeth slightly as he began to struggle against the restraints. "Really?" L raised both eyebrows, "A murder took place near your house only days ago. The chest was slashed and the whole scene was very bloody." He leaned forward a bit to stare into Light's eyes, "Did Beyond not have anything to do with that?"
"He.. He just has another side! It was your fault A died, and it was your fault Beyond turned out like this! And now he's stuck with some.. other side of himself that he doesn't want! It's your fault!" Light snapped harshly, amber eyes never breaking contact with L's.
L shook his head, "The pressure from myself and the orphanage might have been too much for Alternate, and for that I apologize... However, it is not my fault how Beyond turned out." The detective turned to B. "What about C? Have you forgotten about him? He was A's friend as well from what I heard and he now lives a happy life. Why couldn't you be more like him?" "You could never understand how much closer I was to A than C was. You could never understand how much it fucked me up to have him kill himself because you'll never have anyone as special in your life as him or as Light!" He kicked L, but the detective merely avoided his foot.
Light found himself getting to his feet, guns automatically being pointed at him, not that he cared." It takes trust and understanding to know a person, L! Not just a bunch of files and documents! You know nothing!" He snapped, and with a sudden strong force, the chain broke. Beyond's eyes widened as well as L's. Light was practically free! L stared at him from his spot on the floor as both officers rushed forward to restrain Light.
The brunette scowled and leaned down, grabbing Beyond's arm tightly and yanking him up, rushing to the door. Beyond stumbled up, but quickly followed. We could do it.. We could actually do it! We could escape!
Without hesitation, Matsuda took out his gun and with teary eyes, aimed and shot at Light's back.
"Light!"
In a millisecond, Beyond shoved the brunette and jumped in front, getting hit in his chest with the bullet in the process.
