It's a Wednesday night and on Wednesday nights Jackson and April cook dinner at home. Their life is so fast-paced and they're so busy all the time that Wednesdays they make sure to cook dinner together. They get home just after 8 pm but the night isn't wasted even though the sun is nearly setting.
Jackson turns on Pandora and Skinny Love by Bon Iver is on. They've only been married for 8 months but it's working for them. They mesh, they should have been living this life for years.
April leaves Jackson in charge of boiling the lasagna noodles while she makes the sauce and browns the hamburger. He flips the meat while she cuts an onion and adds it into the ground beef.
She gives him a kiss as a thank you for being hers. For loving her like she has always dreamed of being loved.
Everything is done cooking so they take turns assembling the lasagna. April starts with a layer of meat sauce and Jackson adds in the lasagna noodles just like she taught him so many dinners ago. She adds another layer, but not before dipping her finger into the sauce to taste it.
"Hey! I saw that." He teases, lightly knocking hips with her. She giggles, she has to try everything she cooks and he knows it. "Want a taste?"
A sly grin covers his face because he definitely does want a taste but he could care less about the meat sauce. When she dips her small finger into the sauce and holds it near his lips, he tastes it and groans by how good it tastes. April was the only woman whose cooking has ever been able to nearly distract him from everything else he wanted.
She tosses the lasagna in the oven just as the music changes. Bonfire Heart by James Blunt comes on as it plays, they realize it's about them. They have bonfire hearts. Their hearts burn for each other. They always have.
The lights of the city are shining through their living room and the place smells of a mix of tasty tomatoes and the apple cinnamon scentsy they keep plugged in in the kitchen. He nearly melts at the glow his wife has.
Days like these lead to…
Nights like this lead to
Love like ours.
You light the spark in my bonfire heart
"Will you dance with me Mrs. Avery?
She nods and extends her hand to meet his that's waiting for her. It's a faster song but to them it's slow. Her head on his chest and his arms wrapped tightly around her.
But I've been looking at you
For a long, long time
Just trying to break through
Trying to make you mine
