Dear Fanfiction reader,

I am thrilled to bring you this triple crossover story! It's the events during and after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991) combined with the plot of The Little Mermaid (1989.) The third crossover is a published novel of my own creation The Creatures of Legacy Isle: Saga 1: The Mer-girls and the Saved Seven, which was inspired by the other two movies. I have loved The Little Mermaid since I was a little girl. Every childhood summer, I pretended to be Ariel and avidly watched The Little Mermaid TV series (on Disney+ if you want to check it out.) When I was a teenager, I was babysitting my little cousin at a family BBQ. We were swimming - pretending to be mermaids - and made-up names of animals we would bring to our magical island. Later, I started to wonder, what if mermaids rescued extinct creatures? From there, I began doing research on extinct animals, and the magical island came to life in my imagination. But what about the mermaids? Who were they?

In 2017, my husband had me watch the 1990s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and I was hooked on our 'heroes in a half-shell!' I caught up on the different movies and animated series reincarnations during the COVID-19 lockdown. One day, a light bulb went off - what if the mermaids were the turtles' love interests?! How would they meet? THAT story is the fanfiction you are about to read!

When The Creatures of Legacy Isle was published, I obviously had to create a new origin story for the mermaids due to copyright. However, since this 2023 summer has remakes of both inspirations coming out in theaters: The Little Mermaid (May 26th) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (August 2nd,) I thought I should share with the Fanfiction community the true beginnings of the mer-girls!
