This was something my friend, Kaley and I came up with while talking on WhatsApp while gushing ober Volume 3 and we love the idea of Phylla and Rocket being dad and kit so while doing some improv role-play this idea sprouted but it's connected to the raccoon-kits Rocket rescued and that the kids in the lab were injected with raccoon-blood from those kits so Phylla Raccoon might hecome one or closer to her adopted dad.

So in this story, it's a few days after the party on Knowhere and Phylla, Rocjet with Cosmo, Adam and Kraglin but while helping Phylla fall asleep, Rocket realises that she jight be fur and glood after all but adopts her as his wanting to help her out but work on their bond as dad and kit plus Lylla's helping when she visits

It was late-night on the Lylla his ship and while he was lying awake in his big bed, Rocket heard whimpering coming from Phylla's room knowing that she unlike him, she wasn't used to things spending life in the High Evkouitionary's lab sighing getting up and out of his room seeing Phylla running around wide-awake making him sighing knowing it wasn't her fault it was just how she was wired but she was haooy to see him as she couldn't sleep hugging him.

"Phylla you alright, it's pretty late and we're sleeping." he told her.

"Sorry I can't sleep, I think youknow who gave meca lot of energy you know what he's like, he's not a father." she said softly making him get it as he knew things were still unsure and they were still an new team of Guardians but he smiled, as the other kits he'd rescued from the High Evkouitionary's lab who weee on Knowhere hoping Drax and Nebula were taking good care of things but knew Phylla wasn't used to livihg on a space-ship and was heading to the kitchen making her some warm-milk as it would help her sleep.

"Here this might help you sleep, as it helps me when I can't sleep kitdo." he told her, handing her a mug of the warm, white liquid seeing her drinking but enjoying it, only Rocket noticed claw-nails like his making him astounded but understood that the High Evlouitionary had given the kit raccoon genes making him choked up, he was already thinking of her as his and now realising this, he noticed she was getting sleepy getting Groot to help him carry Phylla to her room.

"I am Groot." he said to Rocket seeing him noddijg in reply.

".. Yeah, she has claw nails but I should keep an eye on her and if any changes happen like fur orva tail, then I'm gonna point it out to her." he replied to him entering Phylla's room, which had her play ball in it and a bed noticing how dark the room was getting why Phylla couldn't sleep, asking Groot to bring him an nightlight which the treelike male understood leaving the kit's room butvRocket smiled tuckijg her in.

"It's gonna be okay, kiddo, you're gonna be okay and love you, I know you never had a dad before but I can be that if younwant and way better than the doofus who did this to you, we dan talk about it in the morning." he whispered to her unaware Groot had heard this returning withba lanternn relieving him.

"Thanks buddy, as Phylla needs it as it might help her." he told him.

"Inam Groot, I am Groot." Groot said to him as he turned the lantern on, as the lamplight illuminated the room making them both smile but Rocket felt Phylla's hand holding his making him feel feels but in his mind, she was his kit, vowing to protect her from anybody that dared to hurt her or upset her but Groot's hand on his furry shoulder broke him out of his paternal thoughts realisihg it was late and he needed rest

"Yeah, but Phylla needed help but yeah let's get rest." Rocket said yawning as he left Phylla's room heading to his room climbing into his bed wrapping the blankets arouhd him, thinking about Phylla as it reminded him of when Lylla had helped him but hoped Lylla was okay as she hadn't visited in a while guessing she was busy.

"Lylla, Inadopted Phylla as mine as Inrealised something about her, she might be mybspecies after all." he mumbled falling asleep feeling the rick Lylla had given him against his furry neck which made him feel good zoning-out.

When he awoke, he was surprised to find Phylla on the bed which made his heart melt, stroking behind her ear gently guessing she'd wanted to be with him seeing her pillow was scratched and the stuff had soilled out guessing it was an accident and her claws being squirmy like his sometimes knowing she looked eleven but she was justva toddler on the inside, and guessing shecwas not understanding what was happening, guessing the HighbEvkouitionary hadn't told her what he'd put in her hearing knocking on the door annoying him.

"Ssshhhhh it's okaybsweetie, just sleep and we'll figure this out, but we can't if we don'tvrest." he said kissing her head seeing her relaxing and a smile was on her face in sleep butva warm feeling was in his heart leaving to get them breakfast but saw Florp running arouhd like crazy which he didn't)5 need right now, ignoring the creature making Adam relieved seeing him making coffee for himsekf gulping it likeca shot but making chocolate pop tarts for him and Phylla which Adam, Cosmo and Kraglin noticed that Phylla wasn't here guessing she was in her play-ball seeing Rocket shake his furry head.

"It's nothing younshould worry about, I got this." he said leaving with the plate.

Groot nodded in repky as he knew what was happening, but promised Rocket to keep itva secret for now hoping Phylla was alright but was drinkijg coffee guessing his new sis was needing more sleep but so did his friend and brother sighing and was calming Florp down so Rocket would not get mad.

"Hey kiddo, you okay as finding you here was a nice surprise but Insaw the pillow, your claws got squirmy." he told her.

"Hmmm-mmmm, but what's that yummy smell, it smells delicious." she said him impresing him.

"Yep these are pop tarts and Terran kits love these and the brown stuff's chicolate which is prett good too, holy crutack." Rocket blurted out noticing teenybtiny whiskers starting to grow remembering what he'd promised himsekf but it was Just w was just whiskers hearing her giggling as she was enjoying the pop-tarts getting chocolate arouhd her mouth making him chuckle hysterically as she was messily eating like he dud sometimes grabbing an napkin wipingher chin with love in his brownish eyes hearing giggling seeing Lylla there amused by what was happening as she knew her furboy had adopted Phylla as his kit but noticed the whiskers on Phylla's face.

"Awww she's becoming cute, and her whiskers are cute, the HighbEvkouitionary gave her your blood or the genes, yes we can help her." she whispered to him seeing Phylla hug her making the female-otter giggle.

"Hey jube-jube I'm getting like daddy with his whiskers.":Phylla said proudky but heard Rocket choked up.

"Y-Yeah I'm your daddy but let's figure this out, but we have to gomto Terra to see some friends of mine.":he told her seeing Lylla agreeing kissing Phylla's nose or snout hearing her giggle and curious about where they were going seeing Rocket leaving to tell the others where he and Phylla were going so Adam, Cosmo, Groot and Kraglin wouldn't worry and they didn't have any missions or distress calls to answer, so programmed a pod to take him and Phylla to Terra but Phylla was quiet which he got, squeezing her hand gently with his paw which was helping her feel a little better.

"Daddy.. where're we going." she asked, in a trembling tone.

"It's alright honey, we're going to Terra or Earth." he reassured her.

He smirked as the pod landed outside Avengers Campus, seeing Phylla curious but following him to the infirmary hearing her whimper as she saw doctors as it reminded her of the High Evlouitionary which Rocket got reassuring her these were good doctors not like thecHigh Evlouitionary explaining to Banner about Phylla so of course he was being gentke, along with Rocket gentky whisperihg calm thoughts into her ear, especially a blood test giving her chocolate to soothe her as her crying hurt his heart guessing it was his paternal instincts hearing sniffles.

"You did so well, now we'll find out what's going on with you lil girl." he said to her.
