Chapter 1: Shattered Bonds: The Painful Revelation

After the intense fight with Duke Zaral and his formidable private army, Cinderella chose to hide herself away from Prince Charles. Unbeknownst to her, Charles, the faithful companion who had consistently come to her aid during challenging times, was none other than the prince of the Emerald kingdom. The revelation struck Cinderella like a shattering blow, leaving a feeling of a sense of nothing and utterly betrayed. It was a profound shock to discover that the person she trusted wholeheartedly had concealed such a significant truth from her.

The weight of this realization deepened her sense of hurt and made her question the authenticity of their friendship. In Cinderella's eyes, their divergent worlds appeared impossible to reach, casting doubt upon the possibility of ever finding common ground between them.

On the other hand, Prince Charles was burdened by the knowledge that Cinderella was deliberately avoiding him out of anger and hurt after knowing his identity and refused to give up on their friendship. Despite the walls she had built around herself, he was determined to seek forgiveness and mend their bond. Every day, he discreetly made his way to Cinderella's mansion wearing his commoner attire hoping for a chance to talk to her and explain his side of the story.

However, Prince Charles faced a frustrating obstacle in the form of Cinderella's stepsisters and stepmother. They deliberately hindered his attempts to see her, painting a picture of Cinderella who is busy working and has no time for anything beyond her chores. They saw him as a threat, a disruption to their control over Cinderella's life, and were intent on keeping them apart.

Prince Charles felt his heart sink as he returned to the castle, carrying the weight of his sadness and the ache of longing to reconcile with Cinderella. He confided in Alex, his devoted page assistant, seeking guidance and assistance in his pursuit of forgiveness.

"Alex," Prince Charles began, his voice heavy with sorrow, "I can't bear this unclosed issue of my identity from Cinderella any longer. I need your help to bridge the gap between us. I want her to know how deeply remorseful I am and that my intentions were never to deceive her."

Alex, loyal and understanding, nodded solemnly. "Sure Charles, I'll do everything to assist you. Let's devise a plan that will allow you to communicate with Cinderella directly, without interference from her stepfamily."

They spent hours strategizing, considering every possibility and obstacle they might encounter. Alex, resourceful and quick-thinking, suggested a discreet letter exchange. By delivering heartfelt messages back and forth, they could establish a line of communication free from prying eyes.

Prince Charles seized onto the idea, grateful for the opportunity to convey his sincerest apologies and affection for Cinderella. With Alex's assistance, they carefully composed the first letter, pouring their emotions onto the page. The prince's words expressed his regret, his longing to mend their friendship, and his unwavering belief in their connection.

The next day, under the cover of darkness, Alex ventured to Cinderella's home, leaving the letter tucked from the kitchen door entrance, away where only she would find it. As days turned into weeks, Prince Charles continued to write, baring his soul with each heartfelt message, hoping that Cinderella would understand the depth of his remorse and the honesty of his intentions.

As Prince Charles and Alex diligently continued their letter exchange with Cinderella, hoping to bridge the gap between them, an unfortunate turn of events unfolded. Catherine, one of Cinderella's jealous stepsisters, stumbled upon an unopened letter addressed to Cinderella tucked in the kitchen doorway. Consumed by curiosity, Catherine could not resist the temptation to invade Cinderella's privacy.

Without a second thought, Catherine tore open the letter, her eyes widening with shock and fury as she realized it was from the prince himself. Overwhelmed by anger and jealousy, she crumpled the letter into a tight ball and hurled it out of the window, watching as it was carried away by the wind.

Unaware of Catherine's actions, Prince Charles eagerly awaited Cinderella's response, anticipating the moment when their heartfelt words would bring them closer once again. Days turned into weeks, and the absence of any reply began to weigh heavily on his heart. Doubt crept in, whispering that perhaps Cinderella no longer cared or had chosen to cut their connection forever.

Desperate to understand the silence and regain his beloved friend's trust, Prince Charles believed that their letters might not have been discarded by Cinderella.

One day, as Cinderella was wandering through the forest lost in her thoughts, she heard a rustling sound nearby. Turning around, she saw Prince Charles standing there looking in the sky feeling anxious. And then his eyes met hers, and there was a mix of longing and guilt in his gaze.

Cinderella's heart skipped a beat, torn between inferiority and the lingering feelings she had for him. But she mustered up her courage and spoke, her voice laced with emotion. "I'm sorry your Highness if I disturb you. I should go now." She bowed in respect and made a swift move to flee, but Charles reached out and firmly grasped her arm, "No please, Cinderella, not again. Please don't go."

Cinderella faced him still bowing her head.

Charles grabbed her shoulder and said, "Listen to me. I should say this straight forward, I never intended to deceive you. All I wanted is to be close to you, to experience life beyond the constraints of the royal title. But I couldn't risk anyone finding out who I really was. I didn't want you to treat me differently because of my position. You see, Cinderella, remember the plot against me orchestrated by Duke Zaral. If he were to discover my true identity and my connection to you, you would be in grave danger. That's why I had to keep my secret to protect you."

Looking up at him, tears welled up in Cinderella's eyes. She nodded understing Charles's intentions and his desire to protect her, but it wasn't solely about his lies. The enormity of the disparity between their worlds weighed heavily on her heart. Her voice quivered as she interrupted him, her words filled with a mixture of sadness and longing.

"You don't understand, Charles. It wasn't just about your lies. Our worlds are so vastly different, and the weight of that difference is unbearable for me. I've seen the way people treat me when they discover I'm a commoner, and it's not something I can easily overlook. The judgment, the prejudices, they haunt me. I fear that if we were be friends, I would constantly be reminded of our contrasting backgrounds, and it would be a constant struggle for both of us."

Charles listened intently, his eyes reflecting a deep understanding of her fears. He cupped Cinderella's face and gently wiped away a tear from her cheek, his touch tender and reassuring.

"Cinderella, I hear your concerns, and I don't take them lightly. I know that our paths diverge in many ways, but friendship has the power to transcend those differences. Yes, there will be challenges, but together we can face them. Our friendship has already withstood tests, and it has only grown stronger. I believe in us, in the bond we share."

"Charles, you really don't understand." Cinderella cried.

Caught off guard by her sorrowful response, Prince Charles quickly gripped Cinderella's hands, his voice was desperate. "I don't understand bridging a gap between social status. Cinderella listen to me, I never wanted to lie to you. I know now that it was a mistake, but at the time, it felt like the only way to be close to you. I wanted to escape my monotonous life and just be myself, even if only for a little while."

Cinderella quickly removed Charles' hands to her face and quickly wiped away her tears, her eyes conveying a mix of pain and determination. "You may have wanted to escape, Charles, but if only you could comprehend that your actions will complicate our friendship."

"Complicate our friendship? Why? I truly don't understand," Charles replied, bewildered by Cinderella's words.

"Charles, let me simplify it for you. If you seek companionship, look within your own royalty circle or someone whom you may want to share your whole life with. Our lives are fundamentally different. Sooner or later, our paths are destined to separate, and I don't want to wait until that inevitable, heartbreaking moment. We should learn to let go."

"Let go of our friendship? That's absurd! Why are you saying such things, especially when you were the one who helped Nicolas and Valerie to bring together their love despite the face of opposition?" Charles exclaimed, his words laced with frustration.

"Charles, they are different. They are in love! But we are merely friends…"

"We're merely friends…" reverberated through Charles' thoughts, casting a lingering shadow over his heart.

A rush of realization washed over Charles as he was struck by Cinderella's poignant remark. In that moment, he became acutely aware of the depth of his love for her, a love that had not been spoken. The weight of his unspoken emotions rendered him utterly speechless, his words lost amidst the overwhelming surge of affection that flooded his being.

In anticipation of the prince's reply, Cinderella reached a point of resignation, "Now, Charles, please let me go. I still have numerous chores to attend to," she said, attempting to break free from his grip when Charles blurted out "Cinderella, I love you!" His plea was filled with determination, his voice overflowing with froze upon hearing his words. Her heart raced uncontrollably, unable to contain the rush of emotions surging within her.

"I love you, and I genuinely mean every word," he continued, his voice filled with remorse and sincerity. "I am deeply sorry I wasn't honest with my feelings and for the pain I caused you, but I want you to know that I looked at you as more than a friend. From the depths of my heart, I never played with your feelings. All my actions towards you have been driven by my affection and the longing to be by your side. If only I could halt the relentless march of time just to spend every moment with you, I would do so without hesitation. That's why I would sneak away from the castle, defying any obstacle, just to catch a glimpse of you. Remember the tasks you assigned me? Please consider this: Do you truly believe that someone like me would willingly undertake them for just anyone? Not even my fencing instructor, my tutors, or even my own parents could persuade me to do what you asked. Yet, I never complained because the one who requested it was the person I cherish the most. If it were not for you, I would not care the least bit about such matters."

Cinderella found herself utterly speechless, her mind swirling with a whirlwind of thoughts. Could it truly be him, the Prince she had always yearned for? Memories flooded her mind, recalling the countless moments she had turned to Charles for assistance and support.

There was the time when she implored Charles to step into the role of the prince, helping Mary regain her confidence in the circus. Then, there was the occasion when she sought his aid in safeguarding their house from the bandits that threatened their security. And who could forget the heartfelt plea she made to Charles, asking for his assistance and their other friends in guiding Nicolas and Valerie towards their forever happiness?

But it wasn't just those significant moments that resonated within her. The smaller acts of kindness and care overwhelmed her thoughts. The times when Charles would selflessly tend to her needs while she was sick, even going as far as taking care of her chores. It was in those instances that Cinderella truly saw the depth of his compassion and the unwavering support he provided.

She also recalled how she even confided to Charles about her secret crush on the Prince, envisioning herself as his wife, and confessing her desire for just two children. She also remembered the vivid dreams she had, where she danced with Charles, portraying him as the Prince, yet never revealing those dreams to him.

As these memories flooded her consciousness, Cinderella's heart brimmed with an indescribable mix of emotions. In that moment, she realized that Charles had always been by her side, silently fulfilling the role of the prince she had yearned for.

Charles' plea resonated deeply within Cinderella, stirring a whirlwind of conflicting thoughts and emotions. "Please Cinderella, please don't shut me out entirely," he pleaded, his words gripping her heart. With a gentle yet firm grip, he held onto her hands, seeking a connection. "I never intended to cause you pain. Can't we, at the very least, restore our friendship? I promise to be completely honest with my feelings from this moment forward, regardless of the consequences we may face."

Cinderella locked her gaze into his eyes, desperately searching for a glimpse of genuine sincerity. A heavy silence hung in the air, amplifying the raging storm of emotions within her. Finally, she mustered the strength to speak, her voice a fragile whisper, laden with a bittersweet blend of pain and determination. "Charles, I... I don't know. I'm at a loss for words. I'm deeply sorry." With a mixture of distress and regret consuming her, she abruptly pushed Charles away and swiftly fled, her hurried footsteps echoing her conflicted heart.

Prince Charles stood there, his entire being frozen in a state of disbelief and overwhelming solitude. The weight of Cinderella's decision to sever their love and friendship crashed upon him with a force akin to an unrelenting tidal wave. Desolation etched deeply upon his face, tears streaming down his cheeks like a torrent, mirroring the anguish that devoured his fractured heart. Each teardrop that fell silently whispered a tale of shattered dreams and a profound loss of connection.

In that agonizing moment, the pain of heartbreak enveloped him, and Charles began to grasp the depths of Isabelle's anguish when he had failed to reciprocate her love. The realization seared through him, intensifying the raw hurt he was experiencing. The weight of it all became unbearable, as he questioned whether he could endure any more of this torment.

"CINDERELLAAA!" he cried in despair.

His anguished cry reverberated through the depths of the forest, carried by the winds as a desperate plea, a release of the anguish that consumed his soul.
