Hello everyone, MiniTrnnyson here with a brand new fic-related test oneshot for a possible FMA 2003 X AoT crossover fic that depending on the reception it gets or my will to write more for this it could become a proper fic in the near future.
This occurs as an alternate version to the ending of FMA 2003, with Edward ending up in the world of AoT instead of where he initially ended up in(I won't say where he ends up as to not spoil anyone not familiar with the end of FMA 2003).
This oneshot assumes you are well-versed into or that you know at least something about FMA, as it happens in third person limited from Edward's POV, I won't bother to describe the FMA characters.
Spoiler Warning: This one-shot features heavy spoilers on episode 1 of AoT and final episode of FMA 2003. You have been warned.
Content Warning: This is rated M for a reason. Gore, violence, mild nudity, blood, horror, strong themes, existential dread, alcohol references, war imagery and strong language. You have been warned.
Ownership Warning: I do not own either series, just this one shot and its ideas. This one-shot contains some line for line dialogue copied directly from the respective series.
Enjoy!
Edward Elric, the famous well-known Alchemist known far and wide as the Fullmetal Alchemist, could be seen sitting in the middle of a giant alchemy circle that was in its fair share in the middle of a european-style church.
Dante may have been dealt with and he ensured that both Rose and Wrath left the place safe and sound, Edward could not bring himself to leave.
Alphonse (stupidly) sacrificed his body and soul in an attempt to bring Edward back to life but regardless of whether he had both his arm and leg back in place…
What kind of big brother would he be if he was to leave his one and only little brother to remain stuck in the Gate of Truth forever, which could've just flat out meant the death of Alphonse Elric.
Edward sighed profusely before deciding to think a little bit of what he was doing. Was he sure he could bring Alphonse back? What if he was to die too? Then Al's sacrifice was
Then, Ed finally remembered the final words his father Hohenheim left to him before he too passed through the gate.
"If what pops said was true then right now, Al's body and soul are inside the gate." Edward thought deeply before finally pondering:
"There can be no price for another human life. Even if I offer all of myself, it might not do any good either."
"But,' with newfound determination Edward finally decided on something. He will save Al. No matter what. "There is no reason for you to have to go away, come back, Al."
Finally, the alchemist put his hands together in a praying-like stance before touching the alchemy circle located on his chest, causing it, the circles on his arms and the circle on his forehead.
And soon enough Ed closed his eyes as the alchemy circle beneath his legs started to glow a bright white and before soon, the entire mansion started to glow a blinding white.
When the blinding white glow finally died out…Edward was all but gone, Alphonse now replacing him as he was in his original body…Al looking around confusedly, not remembering where he was or what happened with his brother.
Meanwhile, Edward woke up somewhere. It seemed to be some kind of town, a plaza more likely considering the fact that what seemed like hundreds of people sitting around, staring forward towards something.
But that wasn't all what grabbed his attention about his newfound surroundings.
What grabbed his attention was that in that crowd made up of those people, Edward noticed his father Hohenheim, sitting there with a distant expression on face and looking onwards.
Curiously, Ed too decided to glance over to his front and what he saw…shook him to the core.
There were three…no, probably more than that…five? seven? nine? No, there were ten. Ten beings Ed could only possibly describe as all of humanity's worst fears mixed together…
They were some kind of giant humanoid looking…things. They could've been easily mistaken for giant people but…the crude expressions on their faces, the grotesque appearance and the lack of genitalia…they could've been anything but humans or giants.
Honestly through…what those things were or why no one in the crowd moved an inch were questions the answers of which Edward could only guess.
Before those humanoid creatures could do anything to harm him, his father or the crowd, a group of some soldiers that didn't look like the Amestris Military at all(different outfits, weapons, symbols, etc.) flew through the air towards the creatures.
"Are they…flying?! No, that's not it…" Edward quickly blocked that thought when he noticed that the soldiers were having some kind of device attached to their torsos with some kind of grapple hook and gas-powered mechanisms connected to them.
"So it's some kind of technical piece of machinery. But why would they use something like this? I don't think I ever saw the Amestris Military use anything of this sort." Edward questioned, he had no idea what use those peculiar devices could possibly have.
Through he soon had his response as the soldier flew over the heads of the humanoid creatures before stopping their devices while in air before jumping downwards with a sword slash cutting the back neck of one
However, while on of those monsters was down, the other ones suddenly crawled towards one of the soldiers, grabbed him and one of the humanoid creatures chomped down the head of the poor soldier, blood splattering and screams soon followed that happening.
The horror and fear Edward felt at that moment was unlike anything he ever saw. The only close things to what he felt now was when he first met the homunculi but…this clearly beat it in terms of pure horror.
The fear caused the alchemist to become paralyzed and focus on the grisly sight of that creature eating that soldier with blood flying everywhere that he didn't even realize what was going on around him.
"EDWARD!" Hohenheim shouted before he suddenly shoved Ed to the ground just in time to shield him from a piece of debris that fell down from the walls the blonde teen just now noticed were seen all around the town, with the creatures having broken through that wall.
"Father…what are you-?" Edward asked with gritted teeth, because even if he saved him from that piece of falling debris…he still remembered all that Dante said about his father.
"Not here, it's too dangerous. Follow me, I'll get you to a place we can safely discuss." Hohenheim stated coldly as he got up and started walking away from the grisly sight and through the back alleys of the city, with Ed following close behind.
Eventually the father and son reached a small door in the ground, Hohenheim opened it and made a sign to follow him to Ed.
"Alright, I think we are far enough and safe enough now. Now, talk. What is going on? And what is this place? And what the hell were those…things?!" Edward demanded with gritted teeth and trembling fists. He wanted answers and he wanted them now.
"One question at a time should we? This place is what is beyond the gate. This world is violent. Ridden with horrible wars and man-eating monsters known as Titans killed thousands, bringing humanity close to extinction. And what is worse…the most horrible thing to ever come across humanity is close to happening. You saw it in the gate, didn't you?" Hohenheim asked his son, caused the blonde teenager's mind to flash towards an image of hundreds of those "titans" marching the earth, led by a horrifying skeletal monstrosity.
"But in actuality…this isn't the fault of the titans or humans in this world…there is also…alchemy." Hohenheim stated, not even bothering to look at his son.
"What do you mean?" Ed demanded, his anger and venom still not leaving his voice.
"It's the fault of alchemy. The lives of those that die and who will die here…will eventually travel past the gate and become energy for alchemy. So in short…death and alchemy are connected, always have been." Hohenheim replied, the stoicness and coldness in his tone not leaving his speech for even a moment.
"A world where humanity is near extinction…alchemy's energy…t-t-that doesn't make any sense…what about the law-" The state alchemist yelled, not being able to wrap his head around what his father was trying to say.
This would be against everything that he stood for…it couldn't be real, could it?!
"The law or equivalent exchange? There's something you don't understand…it takes more than equal mass to reform a broken radio. The energy used to put it together must come from somewhere too. Energy cannot be destroyed or created, only redirected." Hohenheim looked towards Edward, his son's expression only growing more confused and angrier following his speech.
"So…that's the secret. The lives of the people that die here cross the gate and become the energy we need for transmutation…i…is that what you're telling me?!" Edward replied to his father's words in an empty, quivering voice, not knowing what to believe.
Edward Elric did not know what to think of or do in this situation. Was it real? It couldn't have been but…what if what Hohenheim was saying was the truth?
That…would change…everything for him. Alchemy was his whole life. And he believed he could do good with it but…now that he knew the lives of humans from this other world were the power of alchemy…that changed everything.
"Inside all of us there lies a smaller version of the gate. Us alchemists are the only ones with the ability to open their gates, crossing worlds and feeding off the tragedies of this one." Hohenheim paused for a moment to turn to look towards Edward before continuing. "This happens every time you draw a circle or grab hands together."
That was when Edward completely lost it, this was illogical, non-scientific. He couldn't believe it. For all he knew this could just be a lie from his supposed father.
"Now you're starting to sound like that headcase Dante! All of this crap about there being no equivalent exchange!" Ed yelled, anger quickly to his voice. He couldn't bring himself to trust Hohenheim, especially after he read the letter and learned all the horrible things his father and Dante did.
"...I wasn't aware you knew about her…" Hohenheim looked away, the subject somehow disturbing him even if he didn't look like it.
"I know everything. I know that the two of you were lovers because I read the letter. I know you've been keeping yourselves jumping from one body to another."
"But what I don't understand…i…is that if you and that evil BITCH were so perfect together then why the hell did you even feel the need to marry my MOTHER?! Did you get some sick satisfaction of pretending to be a normal human?! IS THAT IT?!"
Edward was trembling, he didn't know what was going on but what he knew was that he wanted answers. And he wanted them now.
"I loved your mother." Hohenheim started, taking Ed slightly aback before his father continued. "With all of my being…I haven't truly loved…until I met her. You have to believe me…"
Edward was trembling with all his being and seemed to be on the verge of crying but he forgave all of that to let out one last shout. "Then why…WHY DID YOU LEAVE US?!"
Edward remained quiet as Hohenheim put his hand forward for him to see. The fullmetal alchemist looked confused for a moment before his father lift the sleeve…
…revealing a nauseating and horrifying looking patch of skin that was slowly rotting to the bone.
"...I just couldn't let you see me like this. The thought of it happening was too much for me to bear…" Hohenheim stated and before he or Edward couldsay anything else, a loud explosion was heard following by screams and soldiers yelling.
"Wh-what is going on?!"
And when they got out of the room beneath that ground door, Edward remained speechless and froze from fear as he saw a giant version of one of these titans without skin and with smoke coming out of its body was looming over the walls Ed just now noticed were located all around the city he and his father were in.
What followed was a nightmare worse than what happened to Nina, to the Ishvalans during the war or the people of Liore…the wall was broken even more than before, titans managed to rampage through the streets, debris from the walls crushed innocent civilians, a sea of red engulfed the streets.
While Edward was caught in the middle of shock and horror, one of those soldiers of this other world appeared, with blonde hair and horrified brown eyes, running and gasping, carrying 3 teens about Ed's age in his arms, sho
"Oi! It's dangerous out here! Come on, follow me, there's a safe place that'll get you to the other inner wall!" The blonde soldier shouted, causing both Hohenheim and Edward to nod and they started following the soldier towards this safe place.
However, as they were running, one of the teens in the soldier's arms started struggling against the grip.
The teen had plain brown hair and blue eyes, and eventually he stopped struggling and instead his eyes widened, tears started falling from them and he started shouting at the top of his lungs:
"STOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!" The horrified shout that the brown-haired trenager let out, caused Ed to stop walking and turn around in order to see what was causing the boy that much horror.
And Edward was now wishing he never even dared to stop in the middle of his tracks and look behind him. He saw one of these titans…a titan resembling a woman with a crooked smile…grabbing a woman from the ground and slowly getting her closer to its mouth, it was from quite some distance…but he noticed that the woman the titan was preparing to eat looked a lot like that teen that shouted a moment ago.
That could only mean one thing…that woman was either the boy's mother or some close relative, but regardless…as the titan opened its massive jaw and prepared to chomp down on that poor woman's head…
Edward got some kind of traumatic flashback, because as he continued to look in horror at what was about to happen, he started seeing flashes with memories of what happened on that day…
…on the day that he and his brother dared to try to revive their mother by breaking the law of alchemy that resulted in Sloth's creation and the body parts of Ed and the entire body of Alphonse were taken as payback for what they had committed.
And soon…the struggles and screams of the woman stopped, as the titan chomped down on the poor woman's head. The brown-haired teenage boy Edward would later come to know as Eren Yeager screamed out for his mother, tears running down his cheeks and blood droplets falling from the sky like rain.
This was the day that the mankind of this other world received a grim reminder…
…humanity lived their lives always in fear of titans, caged inside these walls like animals.
The Trost District of the Inner Wall Three years after the fall of Shiganshina/Wall Maria
The current year is 847
During these 3 years staying in this new world, Hohenheim started being interested in joining a group that think humanity still exists within the walls and that the extinction of humanity was all a lie while Edward started studying engineering, wishing to help the military of this world with enhancing the ODM gear.
During one of these days in the Trost district you could see Ed's father Hohenheim walking through the streets.
On this particular day, Hohenheim could be seen walking through the marketplace near the mains street of the district, looking to buy a red apple from one of the vendors.
Grabbing one of the more fresh-looking red apples, Hohenheim looked at the orice the vendor was asking for them and his eyes slightly widening upon noticing the price for those things.
"14 marks for just one? That's positively awful." Hohenheim muttered under his breath before looking at the vendor and continued. "How long is this inflation going to continue?"
"Times are rough, sir. Ever since Shiganshina was taken over by titans and Wall Maria has collapsed…it's been rough for all of us, we gotta adapt." Came the vendor seller's reply.
"I get that but it's been 3 years for pete's sake." Hohenheim grumbled, not really wanting to pay that much of a price for just some apples.
"Are you going to buy something or not, sir?" The vendor asked the immortal blonde man, causing him to sigh and give in, eventually deciding to buy a bag of those apples and walking onwards towards the house he has been living in with Edward.
A moment later we can see Hohenheim entering the inside of the house, finding his son Edward putting all of his stuff into a travel bag, greatly confusing his father.
"What are you doing, Edward?" The father asked his son in light confusion.
"This." Was all that came from Edward's mouth as he handed over a book called "A method of reaching extreme altitudes for human transport and titan dispatching Omni-Directional Movement Gear" with the author being labeled as "Angel Aaltonen".
"Omni-Directional Movement Gear? Aaltonen?" Hohenheim asked with a raised eyebrow, not really having heard of this person until now.
"He was someone who lived in Shiganshina almost 90 years ago, his research was pretty revolutionary for the time. Other than him, there's another researcher that's here in Trost as part of the military." Replied Edgeworth as he continued to put his possessions into the travel bag.
"That other researcher, they aren't dead or 90-years old as well, are they?" Hohenheim asked in a joking manner.
"No, their name is Hange Zöe. I don't know their gender, but I do know their age is close to mine and that they're trying to find out the secret behind the existence of titans. I'm going to join the Cadet Corps and help in the fight against titans. Hopefully I'll be able to meet Zöe in doing so."
"And…what are you going to do once you meet them?" The older man asked the former alchemist.
"What else? Help them with their research, perhaps the appearance of these titans may be connected to the gate somehow, allowing me to return to my world." Edward replied quietly, a frown silently making its way onto his face.
"So if you can't use alchemy you'll turn to mechanical engineering and titan science, huh?" Hohenheim muttered under his breath before Edward continued what he was wanting to say.
"I should have been able to bind his soul and body together, and recreate him." Edward started, pausing for a bit before continuing. "But the next thing I knew, I had come to this world by myself."
"Passing through the gate and coming here was the only way for you to keep your mind and body. You must have done so unconsciously."
"But I've once again lost that which Al did so much to give me." Edward growled in frustration as he clutched his arm, looking down to see nothing but a prosthetic arm instead.
Exactly what he tried so hard to get back and now…it was all for naught.
"We can't say everything is perfect. The whole world is imperfect, after all." Said Ed's father with an understanding smile on his face.
A time jump occurs once more to show the fact that Ed exited the house with his luggage in tow, Hohenheim following from behind him.
"I had meant to give my own life as the price for transmuting Al. And yet, I'm still alive." Edward stated coldly in an almost inaudible voice but loud enough for Hohenheim to hear. "Maybe I did obtain something without paying the price after all. Or perhaps Al is still in there."
"You two have been journeying together. Ever since that day. The people you met during that time, the things you saw, your pain, your effort, everything that you experienced…that could be the price you paid, couldn't it?" Theorized Hohenheim, causing the downward depressing and miserable look on Ed's face and causing the teen's face to lighten up, a smile making its way to his face before preparing to walk towards where the Training Corps carrier was located.
"By the way, Ed, did you find out who will be your fellow cadet corps for the training period?" Asked the father, causing his son to stop in his tracks and turn around to face him, amber eyes looking at him in a confused manner.
"Yeah, I did. I didn't bother to remember all the names because there will be a presentation anyway. Through one name I remembered sticking out to me was Eren Jaeger." Explained Edward with a shrug of his shoulders.
"Oh, you mean…him? From that day?" Hohenheim asked as images from the Fall of Shiganshina and Wall Maria flooded his mind, remembering that anger-fueled brown-haired kid whose mother was eaten by a titan as Eren.
"Yeah, the same guy. Maybe I can get him on board with helping me reach my world. If I tell him the truth, there's now way he won't believe me." Edward smirked confidently.
"And if he doesn't?"
"Then I have a backup plan." Edward replied in a mysteriou manner walking more down the streets of Trost and towards the place where the Trainer Corps carriage would wait for him.
After waiting for a few moments, a covered carriage stopped by Edward as he made a sign for the coachman to stop.
He made a sign as if he wanted Edward to show him something. The former alchemist took notice of that and searched in his pockets before pulling out an official piece of paper containing his enrollment details for the Cadet Corps.
The coachman nodded and showed Edwards a sign to let him know he can enter from the back of the carriage. Edward nodded in return and jumped in the back of the carriage just as it started to move.
After seating himself in a comfortable position Edward finally bothered to look at the other cadets that were in the carriage with him, there was the brown-haired young man with blue eyes, this was Eren Jaeger.
Next up was a tall young woman with short black hair, dark eyes wearing a red scarf, this was Mikasa Ackerman.
And lastly the third person in the carriage was a blonde-haired young man with bright blue eyes that reminded Ed of Alphonse, this was Armin Arlert.
In an attempt to break the awkward silence that was slowly falling inside the carriage, Eren was the first one to break the silence.
"Hey there, I'm Eren Jaeger. My reason for joining the Cadet Corps is because I want to eradicate all titans and free humanity from these stupid darn walls." Eren introduced himself formally, through when he stated his reasoning for joining the Cadet Corps, he sounded oddly aggressive.
Eren then realized something while looking at Ed. He knew him. "Wait a sec…you're that person from back then! Aren't you?"
"Yeah, it's me from back when Shiganshina falls. Didn't believe I properly introduced myself back then, did I?" Edward asked and Eren shook his head.
The blonde young man shrugged before formally introducing himself in a concise manner: "My name is Edward Elric. My reason for joining the Cadet Corps is because I want to return to my own world and reunite with my younger brother."
"To return to your own world? What do you even mean by that? Your reasoning for joining seems pretty childish if you're asking me. All this talk about other worlds makes no sense." Stated Eren, really unamused by what seemed like a joke reasoning for Edward's reason for joining the corps.
"Eren!" The other two teenagers beside Eren exclaimed, seemingly knowing Eren for some time. Edward did not take offense to his words through he did decide to pay the other young man with the same coin.
"Well I could say the same about your reasoning for joining the Cadet Corps. Getting rid of all titans? Freeing humanity from the walls? Seems like a pretty childish dream to me." And exactly then, when Edward mockingly joked at Eren's expense, the brown-haired teenager's calm smile fell, and instead a grimace made its way onto his face.
Ed noticed that and realized he went a little bit too far with that joke. His old self before all that fiasco from 2 years ago with Dante, Liore and the Gate would have continued mockingly without any care for the feelings of the other person but now he knew when he crossed the line and decided to apologize. "Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to insult your reason for joining the Corps, Eren, I didn't think you'd take it so seriously.
"N-n-no, it's fine. I started it after all. I got paid back with my own medicine. Sorry for that." Eren said with a pretty obviously forced smile, probably in an attempt to cover his anger.
Edward was pretty sure Eren was this close to losing his temper and punched him in the face so he decided to not ask him about his obvious fake smile for pretty self-explanatory reasons.
Eren decided to let the topic go and instead decided to introduce the other two teens to Edward. "These are my childhood friends, Mikasa Ackerman and Armin Arlert."
"Hello." Mikasa said in a dry, emotionless, almost robotic tone of voice which kinda took Edward by surprise. It wasn't really the impression he would've thought that this Mikasa could remind him of Mustang's lieutenant Riza Hawkeye from back in Amestris
Perhaps she could be Riza's counterpart in this world? It was a stretch, but everything could be possible, he did know someone in this world who looked just like Hughes and his wife, so everything could be possible.
"Hi. Glad to meet you!" Armin salited towards Edward in a gleeful yet shy voice.
"Armin has a dream too like me y'know, he wants to once see the sea like he saw in those old atlases of the world." Explained Eren with a smile towards his blonde friend.
"And Mikasa's dream is…I don't really know but I'm sure she has her own reasons for joining the Corps too." Eren said, causing Mikasa to cover her face with her scarf and look away. It was more than obvious that this Mikasa had a thing for Eren and that was her reason for joining the Corps but Ed decided to not say anything.
"By the way, Edward, you mentioned something about returning to "your own world". What did you mean by that?" Armin asked the former alchemist curiously, causing Edward to need to quickly think of a plausible explanation without letting them know of the otherworld fiasco yet.
"Oh, umm…I think I mistook some terms. What I actually meant is to return to my country. You know, there actually is another place where another group of humans still live outside the walls." Edward quickly lied(well sorta) to the trio, causing Eren's eyes to shine.
"Outside the walls?!" Eren exclaimed, probably louder than he intended to. He knew it! He was sure there had to still be more humans that are alive outside the walls
"Though unfortunately something happened in my country, that ended up needing me and my father to come here instead and me and my brother to get separated." Edward explained, causing the brown haired teen's excitement to turn into sympathy.
He knew how it was to be far away from family and lose a loved one, so Eren tapped Edward's shoulder and gave him a sympathetic look.
"You want to reunite with your brother, huh? Then…once we finally get rid of the titans…I promise that I'll help you return to your home country and reunite with your brother." Offered Eren with a smile as he stuck his hand out for Ed to shake. "So what do you say? Deal?"
"I appreciate the offer even though I doubt you could help me all that much…I also promise that I'll help you exterminate all titans, so…deal." Edward replied before shaking Eren's hand with a smirk of his own.
After that occured, Edward decided to silently and boredly look over his papers on the ODM gear and titan biology before looking at the carrier's backview to look at the slightly dark blue sky, thinking about Alphonse.
"I don't know right now what I should do to get back to you but you bet I'm coming back." Thought Edward with a cold grimace before lighting up his mood and smirking as he looked out of the window and thought to himself. "Just you wait, Al!"
The scene then jumped back to Amestris where the now human Alphonse Elroc was preparing to go on a journey to hone his alchemy skills with his master Izumi and just embarked the train when Winry decided to stop and talk to Al for a moment.
"Al, promise me one thing." Started Winry, causing to look at her in confusion. "I'm going to keep training more and more until I become the greatest mechanic around! So promise me that you'll come home!"
"I'll be okay! I'll study, and I'm sure I'll find Brother and come with him home!" Al responded with a smile on his face, waving to Winry and she and Parona waved back as the train finally started to move, Alphonse's new journey starting.
"Man must pay an equal price in order to obtain anything. That is the Law of Equivalent Exchange. And at the time, we believed that to be the true way of the world." Alphonse narrated in his mind as he looked at the passing blue sky and green plains through the train's windows.
"But the real world is imperfect. There is no law that could possibly explain everything in this world. Same with the Law of Equivalent Exchange." Al's thoughts continued as he hummed and remembered all the tragedies that occured on their journey and how many people he and Ed met across the years.
"Even so, we believe…that man cannot obtain anything without paying a price. The pain we received must have been the price we paid in order to obtain something. Equivalent Exchange is not the be all and end all of this world." Alphonse thought to himself once again before returning to the reality of the present.
Looking at the sky and lifting his hand in the air he muttered under his breath: "That's the promise I and Brother made with each other…until the day we meet again."
The scene then jumped back to the other world where Edward was still smirking and looking at the sky before he as well raised his prosthetic arm into the air, slowly curling it into a fist as if to grab the sun itself.
After a while, Edward started groaning in annoyance at how slow the carriage was taking to get to the training camp. "C'mon, can't this stupid carriage go any faster already?! This way I'll meet Zöe and find a way to get back to my world in 100 years!"
"Excuse me, coachman, sir! How long until we get to the inner wall where the Cadet Training Camp is at?" Asked Edward in a cheerful voice in a pretty bad attempt at biding his frustration.
"We still have a while until we actually get there. And there is also the situation with the other carriages not arriving. So try to distract yourself somehow." The coachman replied bluntly, causing Edward to give him the dirty look before putting himself back to where he was standing.
"Well, this sucks. If it still looks like we'll be spending a good while here. How about I tell you guys a story to take our attention away from the situation until we arrive?" Edward offered with a bored expression on his face, really wanting to do anything but this of the current situation.
"A story? What are we, kids? We should just wait and that's that!" Exclaimed Eren, his composure seemingly not breaking even through the carriage was taking forever to get anywhere.
"Did I mention that this is a story from real life? From my country outside the walls?" Edward said with a smirk as he was more than sure enough that hearing that will make Eren interested in his story.
"Alright, you've got my attention, I'm listening." Eren eagerly replied, his former determination and demeanor all but replaced with interest and curiosity over what marvels could happen outside the walls.
"Well, let me tell you about that time I and my brother were facing against the criminal Huskisson…"Edwards started retelling one of the many adventures he and his brothers had back in Amestris, gather the childlike wonder and interest of Eren, Armin and surprisingly even Mikasa seemed relatively interested in Ed's sayings.
But despite how carefree and quaint the moments Ed will have with his fellow cadet traineès at the training camp…
…tragedy and death always are to follow in the steps of Edward Elric just like it always did in Amestris.
Friends will betray him. Titans and human lives alike will be sacrificed. Tragedy after tragedy will happen. One of his friends will become Edward's worst nightmare…a murderer.
And worse of all…Edward Elric, The Fullmetal Alchemist…won't be able to do anything to change the oncoming storm.
Dark times are coming ahead indeed…
