Romania. It's been two months since Josette Jean Marguerite had left Romania to London for her medical study.
The Marguerite's continue their gardening and selling for living without their daughter on their side. Usual routine and money come first.
It's almost noon as Albot Jaques Marguerite is resting under this tree, his wife approaching him with a glass of water in her hand. He looked down at the crop with a smile.
"Beautiful wasn't it Beatrice (he points) fresh crop, fresh soil. This is all we've got. Land is the waste of our lives now. With that money we send our daughter to continue her studies in London. With that money we also cover the cost of our daily expenses every month. Finally we are as we are".
He drains the glass of water with a smile. "One day Beatrice. One day we will live happily. Our Josette has become a doctor, and we don't need to do this anymore am I right?"
"Yes. We should rest for a bit, maybe a year for the rest of our lives or we will continue farming again".
"I was thinking about marrying Beatrice. When the time comes, Josette must get married to the man she loves (smiling) then we will hear our grandchildren laughing, running around this place. What do you think about Beatrice?"
She nodded a smile. "I can't wait until Josette graduates. Haven't you not noticed something, Albot?"
"About what?"
"Thomas? I haven't seen him since but heard the rumor that something went wrong with him. I don't know if it was true or not, thus he didn't bother us anymore and our daughter".
The husband nodded his head and said nothing about it. The wife spoke again.
"What if he did something and found our daughter in London".
The husband said. "He did not Beatrice. I spoke to his father and he barely knew where his son was".
"You speak to William?" he nods. "Why doesn't he know about his son's presence around him?"
"I don't know".
The husband's eyes on the crop, his mind are messed. He'll think about his daughter's safety too, what could he do to save his own daughter. She's far as he knows now. Will Thomas find her in London?
"Surely Thomas will not find Josette in London. He barely knew where she was.. now". said the husband, dusting his pants. "Come inside Beatrice. I am hungry and I smell delicious food inside".
The husband and wife walk toward the door. He caught someone walking forward the Barnabas house, looking closer as the figure came closer and closer. The wife looked up at the husband's jaw dropping.
"Josette!"
Barnabas House. Night. Josette was sitting on her bed since she arrived, never touching the food since she arrived this noon.
She came back from the university not for visiting but for being dropped from the university for an unreasonable excuse. She will not be able to return to any university she submits. Something is not right and that doesn't make any sense of it.
A problem why Josette had dropped out from the university.
"They told me I wasn't qualified among the other students in that university or anywhere. I don't know why it suddenly happened like this mama, everything I arranged was perfect before I went. As I arrived they welcomed me with open heart (cry) and now they like.."
"Oh Josette. It's okay, wasn't you lucky to go there or other university where you can go. You can help us here or you should start working at the pharmacies. I was so happy you were okay. I thought Thomas would find you in London and hurt you".
Josette frowns. "Why does Thomas want to find me there, mama?"
"Of course you don't know Josette. It happens Thomas is nowhere to be seen, not even his father knows where he had been (Josette looks confused) Forget about Thomas my Josette, forget everything. They barely see your gifted, intelligent, brilliant daughter we ever had, you worthy everywhere you go people will know you".
She smiled. "How's the crop mama?"
"It's fine. You can help us in the market if you want.. like we use too".
Vlad's castle. The prince himself standing on the balcony staring at the view of the Romania village. Arthur stood next to him with news.
"How the Marguerite's Arthur?"
"Looks like they were devastating but I was wrong they weren't. I feel guilty about Marguerite, especially the daughter. I cannot bear to see her sad like that, should I comfort her my lord? (Vlad eyeing him) She knows me well and I wasn't trying to take her for myself. It's for your own good too my lord".
Vlad nods understanding. He didn't regret what he did to Josette, he couldn't let her go far away from him. Continuing her study in London wasn't a good idea for her, she belongs to Romania and she belongs to him.
The prince himself is the reason why Josette Jean Marguerite left the university with unreasonable reasons. He asks Arthur to track her down and fails at everything she has achieved in her life.
Arthur had to force the university to drop her out and return to Romania safely if she disobeyed Vlad's word, a consequence they will receive.
For the sake of Josette's life the university had to let her go unwillingly.
"Very well. Persuade her if you can".
Arthur nods without arguing, he speaks. "If I may my lord? what will you get after you do this to her".
"You are questioning my order Arthur. Why!?"
"I wasn't. Like I say I barely see her sad. Becoming a doctor was a dream and you crushed her dream into a sand that you couldn't count how much she wanted to become what she was. She tried to help her family after graduating.
"And married to someone else beside me that I couldn't let her".
Arthur shakes his head as he eyes Vlad then back to the view. "What makes you think she will marry someone else without you approaching her and introducing yourself to who you are?".
"She knows Prince Arthur. The villagers know what kind of person I am. Sex. Arrogant. Murdered. The villagers hate me but they have to bow to me as this dark prince who rules Romania!" his eyes met Arthur. "I'll take this chance to have her in my arms".
There is silence. Vlad said. "What happened to that bastard Arthur?" he asked.
"Thomas Lonut? his fine. Absolutely fine".
Vlad smirking, snickering. "Good. Now he will know his own place to be".
Josette is asleep in her bed. Beatrice makes her way outside the house where her husband sits on the wooden long chair as his eyes staring up at the sky counting the stars.
They were happy about Josette returning home safely but not as happy about what happened to her in university.
She then takes a seat next to her husband, both counting the stars together. "What should we do now? we broke our daughter's heart".
"I've been sitting here as I was thinking (his wife turned to him). I don't think it was Thomas doing as I think Beatrice did. He wasn't involved in any of this but someone did and I can feel it. I don't know who but I know someone did to our daughter".
"You think that, Albot? but who the devil will hurt our daughter like that!"
The husband shake head, said. "I don't know Beatrice. I need to find out". he breath heavily. "Tomorrow you don't have to come with me to the market, you will accompany Josette in here, soothe her or anything. I will figured out how to send her back to university I mean different universities, the best university for our daughter".
"Oh Albot. Do you forget something? No one will accept Josette in university no matter how hard we try to send her back there. She doesn't want it either, Albot and we cannot force her, I suggest she should look for a job at the pharmacies in the village. Lately the villagers start to get unknowingly diseased that couldn't cure them, we let her try then".
The husband nodded and then smiled. The wife spoke back. "And we should know what happened to William's son. Don't forget about that either Albot''.
The wife touched his lap then walked back inside the house.
The next day. Albot Jaques Marguerite went to see William Lonut while his wife Beatrice and Josette were selling the vegetable at the same market as he was.
Josette is demanding to help her father and also looking for a job. He met Borgia Giovanni the butcher in case he had heard or seen William Lonut around the market today.
"Marguerite? You don't know aren't you. William found Thomas bruised and bleeding as he went back home from nowhere last night. Early this morning the family went to France and the rumor has it they will not return to Romania".
"Why?"
The butcher sighs. "William's son says he was abducted by someone probably because of what he did. For example what Thomas had done to you and your family. The abduction took him terribly injured and he was warned not to return to Romania".
"How's that possible? (the butcher man shrugs) I feel bad for him".
"I feel bad for William, not for his son. That boy deserves to be punished. I saw your daughter today, should she go to London and study. What happened?"
Albot shook his head, said. "I don't want to talk about Giovanni. It's very complicated to say". The butcher nodded his head.
"Oh and .. this market now belongs to the prince after William".
"The Dark Prince himself? how is that possible?"
"We don't know either Marguerite. The Knight and troops from the castle just announced the news this morning. The villagers took this seriously, how can the dark Prince like him rule this place with arrogance and evil like himself".
Both men sigh, Albot Jacques Marguerite spoke. "As long as he didn't touch any of the girls in this village anymore, we were probably safe or less. I will protect my Josette".
"Just be careful Marguerite, and my daughter too".
"So we have to pay.."
"Him. The Dark Prince. I don't know if he has done something horrific behind us, no one knows that".
The butcher cut the meat and displayed it on the table for the customer, then his eyes met Albot again.
"You see up that hill where the castle stood (he point) there a hidden secret tunnel and chamber where women can sneak inside the castle without our notice by the order of the Dark Prince if he want a.. you know.. sex".
Albot Jacques Marguerite nod. "More women lose their lives as they get pregnant".
"I suspect all the women who died while pregnant were his children. He killed them!" sighs again. "Just look after your daughter Marguerite, she is so precious that I hate to see someone hurting her".
Albot nods with thank you, the butcher speaks again. "I believe she hasn't seen him, am I right? she just heard about him but not seeing him. Just be careful".
Josette is talking to her childhood friend Pietro Watson. His father owns the pharmacies and he works as a journalist. As he heard her was out from the university he came to her.
"Life isn't fair isn't it?" ask him to her. "Unreasonable reason? what is that supposed to mean?"
She shrugged, said. "They just don't want me there, Pietro. What can I do about it".
"Oh come on Josette!? you talented girl I ever friend with. I know you.. we grew up together, we went to school together, what's the point of not accepting you to university. That is sane!"
"Such a waste isn't it?"
He shook his head. "Do not say that! Being a doctor wasn't a waste. You help people with that, they made a mistake. I tell you what, my father is a doctor and owns the pharmacies, why don't you work with him. You know the basics".
"Can I?"
"Of course. We're family Josette. I told him or I will force him and take you as his assistant in pharmacies. He will listen to me because he's afraid that I am gonna burn that place down".
Both Josette and Pietro laugh, he pat on her back. "Let's say I do your favor Josette". he smiled.
