Stef
"You don't think you should, like, maybe warn them?"
"Warn them?"
"They're going to be surprised."
"I sure hope so."
"Welcome!" Diane greeted.
"Well, hello there." Jim greeted.
"Hello." I greeted.
"Hi." Lena greeted.
"We were so sorry to hear that Corey couldn't come."
"Oh, thank you. We were too."
"So, his mother wants him back?"
"Well, she wants visitations."
"And, uh... How will that affect your plans to adopt him?"
"Well, it won't." I answered.
"Uh... We don't know yet." She answered.
"Well..."
"Do your other adopted kids ever see their real parents?"
"Well, we're their real parents." I replied.
"Oh, of course. I meant their real mothers and fathers."
"Well, real mothers and fathers are the people that raise them and care for them."
"They're referred to as birth parents. And, yes. They, uh... They've all met them and they're in their lives to varying degrees."
"Well, I guess Mariana and Jesus probably have the most contact with their, uh... Their birth mother. What's that like? Having your ex-husband married to Ana?" Jim questioned.
"I mean, it must be interesting." He continued.
"Well, like you said, we're an interesting family."
Lena and me laughed.
"Right?"
"Thank goodness. I'm glad that we are having a small, intimate Wedding. Can you imagine if you had to explain us to all of your friends?"
Jim and Diane laughed.
"Can you imagine?"
"Well, I am gonna go check out the spread."
"Yes."
"Looks delicious. Excuse me."
"Yes. Yes."
"Yes."
Jim
"I'm actually hungry myself, so..."
Lena followed after Stef.
"Did you see that?"
"Yeah."
Jamie
"It's only been a couple days but I missed you."
"I missed you too."
"Mmm."
Callie had her arms wrapped around my neck.
We kissed.
"Maybe, uh... We can sneak away before the Rehearsal Dinner?" I suggested.
"How about right now?"
"We can't now."
"Why not?"
We kissed again.
I smiled at Dad as he passed us.
"Um... So I hate to bring this up right now, but my Dad's been asking if you had a chance to sign the thing?"
"Uh... No. Not yet. But... I mean, look. I have no problem with it. I just, uh... I'm having Brandon take a look-"
"You asked Brandon?"
"Yeah. I mean, he's practicing to become a Lawyer, you know."
I sighed.
"Great."
"What?"
"I'm sure he hates me now."
"Jamie, he doesn't hate you, okay. He wanted a friend to take a look at it. Someone who knows these things, you know. He's just waiting to hear back from him. That's it."
"I don't even care about the pre-nup. I know we're never getting divorced, so..."
"I know. But your Dad does and I don't want to make a big drama out of it."
I crossed my arms.
"Look, if Brandon doesn't hear back from his friend by the end of the day, I'll just sign it and that'll be it. Okay?"
I nodded my head.
"Hey. We're in this beautiful place and I don't want you to stress out. I just want us to have the perfect Wedding. Okay?"
"Yup."
I wrapped Callie in my arms.
Emma
"Wow. The water's so blue. Can't wait to go swimming." I commented.
"Yeah. Totally."
I sighed.
"It is on."
I noticed Jay.
"It is not on."
"Ugh!" Jesus commented.
"I think he stole your line." Jay commented.
"Oh, no. Not you. Ugh, my ex."
"Oh, the girl who, uh..."
"You know what? I'm just gonna go grab a drink."
"Yeah."
He walked away.
Jesus
Asher and Jay came over.
"Hey." Jay greeted.
"Hi."
"So, your Sister... Does she have a boyfriend?"
"She's gay."
"Really?"
Jay looked back at Mariana.
"I mean, what's the story with Mat? Is he really in a rock band?" Asher questioned.
"That's the rumor."
"Isn't he your Sister's ex?"
"Yeah, but, I mean, if you're hot for him, go for it. But I should disclose that he gave her crabs. That's mostly why she changed her sexual orientation."
I walked away.
Callie
I sat in a lounge chair next to Jude.
He had a Beer in his hand.
"You really want Moms seeing you with that?"
"Drinking age here is 18."
"Uh-huh."
I looked away.
Jude waved at Carter.
"He is so gay."
"I heard he has a girlfriend."
"I've been with a lot of guys who have girlfriends."
"Really? You've been with a lot of guys? Is that why you're taking PrEP?"
"How do you know about that?"
"When you were hammered at the Graduation party and I had to put you to bed, I picked up some of your clothes and the bottle fell out."
"Really? It fell out?"
"Should I be worried? Are you having safe sex?"
"If I was a girl, would you act the same way if this was birth control? Would you suddenly assume I was going to be unsafe?"
"If you were a 20 year old girl on birth control, hooking up with a lot of people, then yeah. I would be just as worried. It's not just HIV you have to think about. I mean, there are STIs."
"Look. The CDC recommends PrEP for all sexually active gay men. Okay?"
I looked away for a moment.
"I'm being responsible. And just because, you know, you haven't hooked up with anyone recently, doesn't mean you have to be uptight about the rest of us."
"How would you know anything about my sex life?"
"You know what? You're right. I guess I wouldn't seeing that we barely talk."
I stared.
"I'm gonna grab something to eat."
Jude got up.
Brandon joined me.
"Hey. So, uh, have you heard back yet?" I questioned.
"Not yet."
"Okay. Well, Jamie's getting pressure from his Dad, so..."
"Why doesn't he just stand up to him then? If the pre-nup wasn't his idea?"
"Because I don't want him to. So, can you just..."
"Yeah. I'll text Anthony right now."
"Thank you."
I got up.
Brandon
"I was thinking of trying one of those." It was Eliza.
"Yeah? You, uh... Ride them on the sand?"
"I think in the water." She answered.
"Wanna find out?" Eliza questioned.
I smiled at her.
Eliza and me were on the water ski.
Jude and Carter were playing in the water.
Jim
I smiled at Jude and Carter playing in the water.
"You're here early, Donald!" It was Callie.
They hugged.
Jesus
Somebody blocked the sun.
"Uh... You're blocking my sun."
It was Mariana.
"You told Jay that I was gay?"
"Oh. I thought he was talking about Sophia."
"I'm sure."
"Hey!"
Jay came over.
"Who wants to go in the water?"
He pulled his shirt off.
"Uh..."
Mariana pulled her cover-up off.
"Uh... Me!"
Callie
I was watching the Police interview my Client on my phone.
"What are you doing?" It was Jamie.
I looked up at him.
"Hey. I, uh... I'm just... Watching the Police interview my Client. Sorry."
Jamie looked down.
"Look. I know the timing is bad, but it's getting a lot of media attention."
"There will be other cases with media attention. But we're only getting married once. It's not like you're getting paid. I just want you to be present."
"I know. I am."
"Okay."
He got up.
Jamie walked away.
