Friday rolled around and Rae headed to the bar with Maggie and the other nurses like they did at the end of every week. Rae was ninety percent sure she wouldn't see Voight there.
"Is your man going to be here?" April asked as she looked around the crowd for Sergeant Hank Voight.
Rae shrugged, "I hope so, but he could've just said that to let me down easy. We'll see, I guess."
An hour passed with no sign of Voight as the DJ announced Rae's turn. She got up and walked to the stage, ready to sing her heart out.
"I don't know if he's here, but this song is for someone special," she announced before she started singing 'Change Your Mind' by Britney Spears.
"Know you tryna be
Know you tryna be, a gentleman
A gentleman
Trying to impress
Tryna be the best, specimen
Perfect specimen (yeah)
And don't get me wrong, I appreciate ya
And don't get me wrong, I really do
And don't get me wrong, but I'm tired of waiting
Say you don't wanna cross the line
But I'ma make you change your mind
No seas cortés
I'ma make you change your mind
No seas cortés
You don't wanna cross the line
But I'ma make you change your mind
See it in my lips
You feel it in my kiss
I'm desperate, so desperate
I know you wanna too
'Cause the way you touch me, you
Keep proving it, you're proving it"
Rae sang her heart out as she looked around the crowd until her eyes found Sergeant Voight. She grasped the microphone and walked down the stairs until she was able to take a seat on his lap, wrapping one arm around his neck while she continued her song, noticing a change in his jeans.
Once she finished her song, she stood from his lap and walked back onto the stage to put the microphone back before she left the stage once more and walked back down to him.
"It seems like you might be more into my proposal to go back to my place than you led on," she commented once she was sitting across from him, sipping slowly from her drink.
Voight glanced down, avoiding the bulge in his jeans as he did so, "I never said I didn't want to sleep with you, Darlin'. I just wanted to wait so you'd know that I respect you, that's all," he replied.
"Well, you've proven yourself," Rae replied, "Do you want to stay here until I finish my second song, or do you want to get out of here now?"
He thought over her words for a moment before he responded, "Honestly, I think I'd like to sing to you again before we ditch this place. I'm hoping you have something good planned for your next at bat. That's a baseball term," he added as he locked eye contact with her, his dark eyes piercing her light blues.
"I know baseball, Sarge," she shook her head as she stood to leave his table to find out if she could cut ahead of some of the others to progress her night. Luckily, her friends agreed to let her go next and she prepared herself to go up again, throwing back a beer before she retook the stage.
The DJ announced, "Welcome back, Dr. Anderson, a little earlier than normal for her second song. Enjoy her rendition of 'Turn Me On' by Norah Jones.
Rae took the stage:
"Like a flower waiting to bloom
Like a lightbulb in a dark room
I'm just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on
Like the desert waiting for the rain
Like a schoolkid waiting for the spring
I'm just sitting here waiting for you
To come on home and turn me on
And my poor heart, it's been so dark
Since you've been gone
After all, you're the one who turns me off
But you're the only one who can turn me back on"
Rae finished her song and placed the microphone back on the stand before she stepped down the stage, waiting to see Voight's reactions.
To her surprise, he stood from his table and gestured for her to follow him out of the bar.
Rae followed Voight to his SUV where she was surprised when he moved from beside his vehicle, pushing her up against the passenger door, roughly placing his lips against hers, while his hands roamed freely along her body.
She moved her fingers to the collar of his button-down before she started undoing his shirt. Once it was undone, she ran her hands along his bare chest, gasping against his mouth as she felt the sensation of her skin against his, even in this most minor way.
"Are you going to fuck me outside of this bar or take me back to one of our places to do it properly?" she whispered as she moved her lips to his earlobe, before taking it between her teeth, suggestively.
Voight let out a long breath before he replied, "I want to fuck you right here, but I'll take you home," he responded as he helped her into his SUV.
