SCP Foundation

002

Katana silently walked into the room and sat in one of the audience chairs. She was sent to the location by her mentor to watch the staff test the scp. Based on the files that she had gone through before traveling to the location. SCP 002 or The Living Room was a fleshy substance with a door in its side that led to a furnished apartment. She found the thing to be disgusting and knew she wouldn't be the only one with the same thoughts. Her focus was interrupted when she saw a door open and a figure being pulled in by guards, probably a Class-D,. Upon first inspection, she could tell that he was nervous by the sweat dripping from his chin. As she entered his mind to gain a better clarity of his feelings, she overheard him questioning what was currently going on. What he was facing and comparing it to things he faced in the past. Her gut panged with sadness; she hated how they were the cannon fodder for the corporation. She pulled out a book for cover and whispered into his mind, "Do not panic. The time is coming so that you may escape, but we have to time it right." She watched him look around in weariness, trying to find the cause of the voice.

Johnny was sweating buckets as he was being brought to the room he was to be tested in. What sort of monster was he going to be tested with this time? He's already had a run-in with SCP-173, he doesn't think he will ever be able to take a bath again after SCP-1128, even if he wanted to. So what the hell was next? A magickal torture machine that keeps you alive as long as possible or something much worse. When he heard a female's voice in his head, it startled him even more. He glanced around the chamber to find out where it came from, but couldn't find it. Assuming it was one of the guards, he turned toward them, "Huh? Did– Did you say something?" Instead of answering his question, the guard shoved him forward with an order to 'quit stalling'. 'Asshole' Johnny thought. He was pulled a thousand directions as researchers pulled a hazmat suit and placed other equipment on him. They explained that the suit would null the reality warping effects of whatever is in the containment. Great…I get to painfully die… again.' After they finished informing him of what was happening, they led him to the containment chamber, the doors already opened. When Johnny looked in, all he saw was a growth in the middle of the room and couldn't help but voice his displeasure, "What the hell is that thing?" He barely heard the beep of the camera that was on his suit to signify that it began recording.

The doors closed behind him and he heard a researcher through the intercom, ordering him, "Step toward SCP-002."

Johnny growled and asked, "Are you serious?" But he already knew the answer. Rather than continue waiting, he stepped forward in the direction of a set of stairs that lead to a door at the growth's side.

Katana huffed in annoyance at his blatant show of something was speaking to him. She responded to him telepathically again, "The guards are not the ones speaking to you you idiot. Do not make it obvious that you are being spoken to. What you want to do is find something with an ultraviolet light to null the effects of the growth."

Johnny was confused, he looked around a bit unsure of who was talking to him. He's been tested with SCPs that messed with his mind before, was this 002? Or was it something else? Or was he just finally going insane? He had no idea how he'd find anything with ultraviolet light that this thing wasn't already being contained with. He was guessing that he took too long when he heard the intercom crackle on and a voice giving another order, "Step inside."

"Step inside?" "Yes" "I-I Fine." Johnny finished the conversation with whoever was on the other side of the intercom and with reluctance stepped closer to the thing. Although he did find out that the closer he moved to the thing, the easier it became. A second ago he was terrified of the thing and now he was happily walking inside of camera's view showed him walking into a wall of light, only to shift into a fully furnished living room. The sight impressed the humanoid SCP and he reacted as such, "Woah. Not what I expected."

Katana cursed as she continued to read. She had to figure out something she could do. Even though it was a risk, she decided to stand and make her way to the containment chamber to enter. Knowing that she would have to make the movements quick and precise without being seen, she reacted. She stumbled into Johnny, bumping into him. Using the quick exchange of motion, she snuck an ultraviolet into his pocket. She heard him grunt from impact and start looking around. Before she felt the effects of the scp, she left quickly to return to her seat. The researchers and guards wouldn't question her or put her under suspicion, because of who her direct superiors were.

As she sat, she heard one of the researchers make a comment, "Is there a new toy in the room?"

Another researcher responded, "Last count was three."

"I see four." The researcher responded and then said something to a communicator for Johnny, 'Pick up those toys on the ground.

Johnny looked at them and obeyed the order. Upon initial contact, he dropped the first in disgust and asked, "Oh god! Was that skin?"

"It isn't. It is only a toy. Pick it up and continue." The researcher ordered. Katana listened as she kept looking at her book. When it was discovered that she had telepathy, her mentor gave her the idea to keep a book on hand so that she would always have an alibi. Her other abilities are not as easy to hide if she ever had to use them. Though she did get a bit nervous when she heard the same researcher comment, "I still want to know why there is a fourth toy in the chamber when the original count was three. Anyone have any ideas?"

Katana was worried about Johnny and decided to risk trying to speak to him again, but her message was blocked by the scp. She huffed, hating these types of creatures. Alarm stretched her features as she watched the screen become fuzzier and all she heard was Johnny yelling in terror, "What was that?" The screen then went silent and then black as if it was cut. Unfortunately, she was in a position where she couldn't do anything.

One of the researchers then voiced, glancing in her direction, "We should take the boy back to the cell. Make the intern do it instead of just sitting and reading."

Katana smirked when she saw another researcher cuff him on the back of the head and respond towards her, "Sorry about that ma'am." The same researcher looked at the one she cuffed and said, "Do you have any idea who that is? She may be an intern, but she is an intern for the people that pay you, the 05 Council. As far as you are concerned, she outranks everyone here and will be treated as if she is already a member." The other researcher went pale and somber at being lectured.

"It is quite alright Dr Thompkins. I happen to get that a lot because of my age." Katana spoke, and smiled at the other researcher, "I hope this won't happen again."

"I-It won't ma'am." The researcher scrambled to get his words out. The researcher was young, probably on the newer side and was still learning all the ins and outs of their facility. Katana wouldn't fault him this once, but the next time he stepped out of line, she would have to put him in his place.

Dr Thomkins responded, "I'm sure it does ma'am. He is a newer researcher, just joined the team. I will be sure to make sure it does not happen again." Before Katana could respond, sounds came from 002's chamber and a door opened. Johnny came stumbling out and landed on the ground. . Katana eyed Johnny, the suit that he was sent in was shredded, completely destroyed. Upon closer inspection, she could safely guess that the camera, audio device and heart monitor did not fare well also. Katana heard the researcher giving orders, "Oh damn! He's alive! Get him to a containment chamber!" Guards reacted quickly and moved him out of the way and slammed the door shut so that the SCP wouldn't escape, but they were too late as tentacles shot out of the chamber and pulled a few in. The other guards began firing, but no visible damage was being done. Katana heard the researcher order, "Get SCP-900 out of there!" The remaining guards wasted no time and pulled Johnny out of the room. As soon as they exited, 002 returned to a neutral state. The only thing she was able to do was stand and watch as she could not expose what she could do. Her mentor made that plainly clear when she was offered the position as intern.

Katana watched as the staff began to give Johnny the medical attention he needed. After a few hours, he was stable. The only thing left to do was a psychological evaluation to make sure the effects of 002 wouldn't be permanent if there were any to be found. But much to Katana's annoyance, he was refusing and she was going to figure out why. She stood and stepped towards the researchers, "Let me speak to him. I will let you know my findings but go about your business. Now." She glanced at Johnny and led him to her office on-sight, "Johnny right?" She asked. She absolutely refused to call scps by anything other than their names if they are able to respond to her. SCPs like 002, were ones that she would differ as they couldn't respond or make their unpleasantness known. It was always something that bothered her as given numbers to clear cognizant beings felt dehumanizing to her. Her mentor appeased her in that area, only asking that she kept it simple in her reports. She wanted to gauge where Johnny was at mentally before jumping into the hard questions. He made no move to respond. Sighing, she leaned back and responded, "You're going to have to speak to me eventually Johnny, What happened while you were in the room?" Still nothing. Katana sighed again and decided on another tact, "I'm not like the researchers Johnny. I'm a bit… more if you would say." She used her ability to speak in his mind, "I can help you, but you have to speak to me and tell me what took place."

That seemed to force a reaction as he glanced up at her, eyes wide, but she wasn't expecting his first response to be, "Can we please talk normal?"

Katana nodded, understanding that it can be discombobulating having another voice in their head, "We can do that, but that has to stay between us alight?" He nodded as she continued, "I do want to say that nothing you say in this room will leave it. Though unfortunately, it will be added to your file. If there is anything at all that you do not want placed, I won't. Can you tell me what took place in the chamber?"

Johnny looked at the girl across from him. It startled him that he heard her voice in his mind and was surprised to see that she wasn't like him detained. Oddly enough though, it felt like he could trust what she said. "I think you might want to add to that thing's file. That room isn't all that there is to it. There is some…thing inside it." He couldn't describe it and the thought of it sent shivers down his spine.

Katana eyed his shaking form and whispered, "Hey, you're safe now. You're okay." She got a cup of chamomile tea and placed it in the microwave. Once it finished, she handed it to him and watched as he took a few sips. Ones the shudders stopped for the time being, she continued on, "Now, can you tell me what you meant when you said that that wasn't all there was to the room?"

"There was this thing inside with me. It was…oh god… it was some big floating thing made of tentacles. Two of them launched at me and dug into my brain. It started digging into my memories as if trying to find my idea of home." Johnny explained, trying to keep the shudders out of his voice.

Katana wrote the added information into her notes. She would update the files later on. She didn't want to further antagonize him and would cut the meeting short today. He needed time to process everything and if need be, she would locate him later. While she wrote, she responded, "002 is one of the odder ones that the organization has in containment and unfortunately that will not change for the foreseeable future. I am sorry that you had to go through that."

Before they could finish the meeting, Johnny continued on quickly, "But wait. That isn't everything." It seems that he wanted to get everything out in the open. She didn't have an issue with it, but didn't want to further traumatize the guy by having to relive the experience.

"We can continue this later Johnny if you aren't feeling up to it. I don't want you to feel as if you have to push yourself to tell me," Katana responded with ease.

"I want to. No, I need to." Johnny was determined to finish.

Katana nods, "Alright go on."

"When it saw what it wanted it started tearing me apart. Keeping me alive long enough to get every part of me to make furniture. It spent a whole day doing it until I started regenerating. Once my limbs and skin grew back, its furniture went away and it got mad then tossed me out." Johnny finished.

"I've never heard of that happening before. That would be quite frightening to experience and I am sorry that it happened to you." She was sickened by his telling of what he experienced in that growth and vowed to make sure it wouldn't be as bad. She wrote the added information into her notes.

Johnny nodded, but added, "Yeah, but the thing is, I can deal with getting torn apart and my mind getting fucked. Hell, I'm used to it by now. But the messed up part of this one was that I was able to see what was in its head as well. That thing is aware. It's aware of everything going on around. And it's waiting. Waiting for this place to crumble because it knows something we don't. And once this place is dust, it''ll be able to do what it wants."

Katana listened to him. Each word penetrated her mind causing her to look alarmed. She decided to push it and ask, "And what exactly does it want?"

"To blend in, like the horror flick 1408." Johnny explained. "It won't try to leave not on its own accord. But that won't stop it from thriving in the rubble once this whole place is destroyed. It will still be here. Feeding on the curiosity of the people who come to see the rubble. At least, it thinks that will be the case.

"So it wants to become a killing room" That sealed the deal for her. She would lock it down into the lower depths of the facility and make sure no one but her and council will be able to access it. That would be the last thing that they needed was to lose control of something that had the dream of becoming something like out of a horror film. It will be locked down til a way can be found to destroy it. "It won't be the case, because I will make sure it is locked down tightly so that even if something happens to the building structure, it will be relatively harmless and unable to do anything."

"Let's hope so, because I get the feeling that nothing short of a nuke, will kill it," Johnny said. Before anymore could be said, guards came in and went to escort Johnny back to his chamber.

Katana looked at the guards, "You do not just walk into my office without first announcing yourselves. Or do I need to report you to my boss for insubordination?"

"Sorry ma'am. We received orders to escort 9000 back to his chamber," One of the guard's spoke.

"On whom's orders?" Katana growled, "You may escort him back, but next time you will wait until I am finished with my report."

"The head researcher," The guard answered. Before anything more can be said, they leave with Johnny.

Katana walked out of her office. Locking the door, she went to find the head guard or researcher. She ordered the researcher to lock down 002. "No one else is to use it for tests or open the door till I figure out what is going on. Is that understood?"

"Did this order come from the 05 council? We will have to get approval from at least one of them to do that. You know, procedures and all that."

"I'll get your approval, but I need to remind you that I can still place a temporary lock down if unsafe conditions arise. No one is to enter 002's containment unit until this is sorted. Up the ultraviolet light to keep it weakened and have a squad of guards posted watch." The researcher nodded as Katana stepped away to make a phone call to her mentor. He would make sure that she had her approval. Once she heard his voice, she jumped right into her explanation, "I received information that SCP-002 is proving to be an actively conscious being. It isn't actively planning something, but biding time for something to occur. It does plan to resemble the room in the horror flick 1408. Do I have your approval to start protocols for lockdown? No entrance given to anyone regardless of classification."

His response was what she expected when he asked, "How so? New data has surfaced?"

"Another SCP was placed in the room and based on his debrief, informing me that 002 is actively waiting for something to happen. That it can think for itself. To quote the other SCP, "It's aware of everything going on around it. It's waiting for this place to crumble. It knows something we don't and once this place is dust, it will be able to do what it wants. End quote." Katana explained.

"Jesus," 05-06 reacted. For the normally stoic council member, the rare expression of emotion surprised her. "You have the approval you need to lock it down for good. We will still keep it under close surveillance especially after the last power outage. Which reminds me, have there been any updates on the other problem I have you investigating?"

"No updates at the moment, but I am actively looking into it. I am sure that I will discover who or what was behind that outage. As soon as I have something concrete, you will be first to know. Can you fax the approval because I have a feeling that the researchers will want proof." Katana responded.

"Sent. Be sure to update your files for 05-03 to review." Her mentor reminded.

"Got it. And I will be sure to sir." Katana responded before hanging up the phone. She grabbed the paper and went to refind the researcher, "Here is your approval. Lock it down now with routine checks and constant surveillance. I do not want a repeat of what happened years ago." She left without another word and returned to her office. Before she sat, she grabbed one of her coffee drinks and went through updating the files. As she finished, she refreshed herself on all the information pertaining to the power outage that happened years ago.
