Zoé was having a weird day. First, Marinette was having boy problems. That's not the weird part of course, Marinette is always having boy problems. I mean, Alya was kind of weird about it with the party and stuff but at this point who isn't on team Adrienette? Zoé just wished they were less clueless. Or that Marinette would notice someone else. But that is not, in any way shape or form, important at the moment. The weird part was that when she went to console Marinette, she found a cat demon in the sewer.

Oh, and the all-powerful creature apparently liked cheese. Great.

So naturally, when she went to get the adorable thing some cheese, her half sister who practically banished her from half of the house happened to be down there getting a snack. So then she had to wash a pile of shoes.

"How about I cataclysm that sister of yours instead?" Plagg had said.

"It's pointless, Plagg."

"Zoé, you can't let them treat you that way; no one speaks to me like that! Just ask the T-rexes — that is, if you can find one! BECAUSE THEY'RE NOT SO SMUG ANYMORE NOW, ARE THEY?"

"It's best to stay out of trouble in this family," she'd said, which had sent Plagg into a ramble about how she was giving up on dignity and justice and cheese and other stuff. She was starting to really like the kwami.

So, as you can imagine, she was pretty glad to get to school after that.

But of course, escaping her half sister wasn't that easy.

On the bright side, kinda, Marinette and Adrien were sitting together! Despite the fact that Marinette couldn't quite get herself to hold his hand. But of course that got Chloé all upset, and then Marinette fell off her chair because she was Marinette, and Chloé made some smart remark. Then she tried to 'reveal' to Adrien that Marinette was in love with him, which wow, Sherlock! Who knew?

"You can't reveal someone's secret to everyone, Chloé. It's really mean!" said Adrien. Oh the sweet sunshine child.

"A baker girl who thinks she's good enough to be with a rich and famous model... What a joke! It's funny, right?" Dead silence. "Right!?" Crickets. "Sabrina!"

"Oh, yes. Very funny, Chloé," the poor girl forced out.

Everyone began to cry out, telling Chloé to leave Marinette and Adrien alone. But Chloé doesn't know where to quit.

"You're not laughing because she's missing something," she said, picking up a piece of pie from Marinette's plate. "A piece of humble pie. Get it? 'Cause she's a baker girl?"

She lifted the pie to throw it. Something in Zoé snapped.

"That's enough, Chloé," someone said. It took Zoé a moment to realize that it was her.

Chloé gasped in disgust as Zoé grabbed the pie to put it back on the table. Zoé drew the line right there and then. Chloé could pick on her and step on her as much as she wanted. But she could never, never hurt Marinette. Not Marinette with her deep blue eyes and beautiful raven hair and her melodic, pure laugh and her adorable dorkiness. Not Marinette. Not now, not ever. Not as long as Zoé could help it.

"Should I call Mom and have you sent back to the hole you should never have crawled out of?"

Zoé's hand tightened into a fist and she began shaking. "Maybe I'll go back to New York, maybe not. But what's for sure is that you're going back to your seat and leaving Marinette alone!" She shoved Chloé back to her seat.

Chloé sat down, absolutely fuming. Oh god, thought Zoé, what have I done? She'd broken her only rule: Don't cause problems. Chloé would hate her forever and get her sent back to New York and she'd never see her friends again. Most importantly she'd never see Marinette again. Oh god.

But then she looked at Marinette.

She was smiling.

She looked and Zoé, and she giggled.

Her bluish-black hair bounced on her shoulders as she laughed. Her blue eyes were twinkling in the light and she was beautiful. And it was okay.

Even if Marinette was sitting with Adrien, and they were holding hands and smiling, and that Marinette would never ever truly like her back. It was okay.

It was okay because Zoé made her laugh.

A/N: Forgot to specify but this is meant to be a one shot (however maybe I'll continue it, probably not). thanks for the love so far! either way this is a rare pair ship fic and part of a series of them on my AO3. if u don't like it, just be nice. it's not my personal OTP but cute. if you have any rare pair ship recommendations or specific fic ideas I will do my best however i will NOT do illegal ships (ie no large age differences, highly uncomfortable dynamics or family ships). thanks for reading and please leave a review!
