Prologue

For the first time in a while her heart was hammering heavily in her chest. She felt amber eyes lingering on her curiously. She was both worried and overly excited for the night. She was worried about how her half-demon friend would react, and she was excited about finally being able to return to the location. There were plenty of things that she was worried about, but she was far more excited than anything else.

"What're you wearing that for?" Inuyasha asked flatly. Kagome paused and turned to face him. In her hands was a mask that was set to cover half of her face, hiding her nose and above from view. She gave him a look that meant it should've been obvious.

"I've told you," she reminded. "It's a good idea to hide your identity at this thing sometimes," she stated. She looked it over, noting the design was so similar to Adam's own. It was still her usual colors and had a few features from her other mask, but it definitely also mirrored his own quite a bit.

It'd been a gift when she confirmed to him that she was coming back to S.

"Oh, so you've made your mind up?" He asked with a smile. When she nodded, his smile grew wider, exposing his sharp canines. "Wonderful!" The blue-haired man exclaimed, excitement in his voice and invading his aura. "It's been months, my sweet."

Once upon a time, she would've been bothered by his mannerisms, but she'd gotten used to it by now. Kagome smiled and nodded. She'd talked to him earlier about it, and, upon agreeing to meet up with him, she was eager to confirm her decision.

"Yeah!" she exclaimed with a chipper tone. "I know I sorta just fell off," she said with a soft sigh. "Things just got… busy, and I had to focus on just that," she admitted.

"And here I was worried that you had gotten bored," Adam cooed at her. He approached her and lifted a hand to rest a finger beneath her chin. He tilted her head back so she'd meet his ruby stare with her sapphire eyes. "Oh, what a relief, my sweet." At the touch, her face heated up, and he chuckled. "I've missed seeing you there all dressed up terribly so," he added with a chuckle lacing his words.

"I've decided I'll swap my look up some, too," Kagome said. It'd been something they discussed earlier, too, and he perked up even more.

"Delightful!" Adam chimed. "I've got just the thing for you, my sweet!"

Kagome was taken aback when he revealed the mask that was made to match more to his own. Despite that, it was clearly made with her in mind. She took the offered item, marveling over it in fascination.

It made her feel like she'd be attending a masquerade.

Pastel blue and pink and a hint of white, the material it was made with was durable and felt wonderful to the touch. Still, it was impossible to ignore the style. It was identical to his, nearly in every way besides the colors it was composed of.

"I do hope you consider incorporating this," Adam hummed in satisfaction when she looked it over so closely. He returned his touch to her, trailing a finger up from her chin and along her cheek. She looked back up at him, and he smirked. "It'd be lovely to match, don't you think, little bluebird?"

Kagome smiled and nodded. She didn't see the harm in it to wear it occasionally.

"I think that sounds fun!" she chirped in agreement.

"That big of a deal?" Inuyasha asked, and Kagome nodded.

He didn't wear his usual garments. He'd dressed in a pair of jeans and a sleeveless shirt, with his usual baseball cap on to hide his ears beneath. She'd put her mask on when she got close enough, so, for now, she put it in her bag and placed it over her shoulders.

Tonight's Beef was between Reki- one of her classmates, apparently, and Shadow. They weren't at risk of being late, but she knew it'd be better to leave earlier than later.

"Before we go," Kagome began, closing the distance to him. In her hand was a pin that matched the charm on her necklace. She paused in front of him and reached to clip it onto his shirt, much to his confusion. "You've gotta have it to get in," she explained. "It's not exactly a public meet-up," she added then.

He nodded, showing he understood.

Was she nervous about bringing her half-demon best friend to S? Yes, but she was also eager to share it with him. He wanted to see it, interested in what she'd explained. She'd shown him several tricks on her board, and he was interested in that skill of hers, especially when it came to some of the things she could do and make look easy while doing them.

She reached to take his hand, beaming up at him before she tugged him along behind her. As she did, a flush of red colored his face, and he willed it away as he followed after her.

Once outside, he had her climb up on his back, and she gave him instructions on where to go. He listened to where she said to go before he took off. Once they got close enough, she got off his back and walked alongside him so as to not call any excess attention their way. Before she got too close, she reached into her bag and tugged the mask out. She put it on, fixing her hair with it as she did, and she nodded when she was ready.

A hush ran over the crowd as she walked in, but she paid it no mind. Inuyasha was the opposite, glaring around when eyes went to the miko beside him.

"Things are gonna get good," a voice from the crowd said. "Lookit who's back!"

It was an excited tone he spoke with. With it came clamor from the rest. Kagome smiled and waved, stepping closer to Inuyasha and linking their arms as more talk of the second-best skater there resurfacing grew louder and more prevalent.

It was a shame Adam wasn't there physically, but she knew he was watching from the camera feed. Or that he would, if he wasn't observing already.

"Yo, you beefing tonight?" someone asked, and she shook her head.

"No, just here to watch Shadow's beef," she responded with a light-hearted tone. "I wasn't planning on anything tonight," she admitted. She really wasn't. She hadn't even bothered to bring her board since Inuyasha had been how she got there tonight.

"Shame," he responded. "Would've been a good follow-up to Shadow's beef."

Kagome smiled and waved him off, turning her attention back to Inuyasha. She didn't miss the way he was looking around, curiosity in his eyes. "Sometimes these races can get pretty dangerous," she admitted. He looked at her with widened eyes, about to ask about the dangers before she beat him to it. "I've never gotten hurt too seriously here," she added. "Doesn't mean others haven't."

Her words acted as an omen for the way the beef went that night. Shadow won, and Reki had gotten rather injured. Nothing that'd leave lasting damages, but it was enough that he needed to be bandaged up.

"The winner gets to decide what happens with the loser," Kagome explained to Inuyasha. Reki's punishment for losing was the burning of his board. It wasn't the worst thing, but it was still bad. At least it wasn't something physical to him.

"It's pretty cool here," Inuyasha commented, and Kagome smiled.

"I'm glad you wanted to come with me," she said. "If I came back on my own, I'd feel so awkward," she said with a laugh. It felt better having him around, for more than one reason. A part of her hoped that he'd want to come back again. Maybe next time he'd be able to watch a more intense race.

Walking into class the following day, Kagome was quick to note Reki was still covered in bandages. She spared him a quick look as she got to her seat in the row in front of him before she sat down. He didn't look at her as she did, and that was it for their initial interaction.

She got her things out for the day and she set them on her desk, leaving the rest in her bag on the back of her chair. As she did, the sound of chalk tapping on the board caught her attention. She looked up, spotting a figure she didn't know standing in the front of the room for an obligatory introduction.

"We've got a new student joining us today," the teacher said before he motioned to the blue-haired teenager. The silence lasted a while before the boy reacted.

"Oh…." he spoke as he looked back at the rest. "Um, Hasegawa Langa," he said as he introduced himself.

"... Would you like to share anything else about you?" the teacher asked when he fell silent again. He blinked, seeming to think about the question. "Maybe where you're transferring from?"

"I'm from Canada," was his flat response. Deciding it was enough, the teacher waved toward the rest.

"Alright," he said. "Higurashi, raise your hand," Kagome looked up again when her name was called before doing as she was asked. "Hasegawa, you'll be in the seat behind Higurashi-san."

Their eyes met, sapphire clashing against sky blue. It was a second before he finally moved, going to his seat. She smiled at him as he passed her, and she didn't notice the faint hint of pink dusting his cheeks at her action.

Auroua-chan: I love the skating nerds so much. Kagome and Langa are such a good pair. Reki added to the pair can be good, too.

Kagome's persona at S will be described soon. Adam and her are friends, and they talk often. He's a little infatuated with her, but she ignores it. (He may or may not have mentored her at one point…) Their relationship will be revealed soon. He'll see a challenge in Langa when it comes to Kagome, though.

Inuyasha got a first view at S, and Kagome was excited to take him with her He'll show up again soon!

Anyway, that's it for now! Thank you all for reading, and I hope you all enjoyed. Hopefully I caught all the errors before posting, but if not sorry.
