Chapter One: The End Of The World, Part One
Cold War Era Monarch Bunker, Classified, 2019
"Fuck you!"
The Soldier sighed.
He was in an old underground Cold War era Monarch bunker, or more specifically, a prison room adjacent to his own bedroom. And in front of him was twelve-year-old Madison "Maddie" Russell who openly scowled at him. She had white skin, medium dark brown hair, and brown eyes.
Truthfully, it wasn't that he didn't deserve her hatred. He was a soldier for environmental terrorists, which surely was never going to end well for him. But things might have gone a bit too far then got a bit out of hand. He had been 'forced' to stage a coup by killing their former leader Alan Jonah, his son Asher Jonah, and a few other soldiers loyal to them. He then ordered those left and loyal to him to bunker down, regroup, and replan while literal monsters destroyed the world.
Cowardly?
Maybe. But, oh well. He thought they would all agree it's better to live and see the sun come up instead of being wiped out into darkness. But then another voice spoke and his attention was drawn to a woman in the cell next to the girl's cell.
"Leave her alone!"
Emma Russell with an even more hateful scowl on her face. Mother like daughter, he thought. She had white skin, medium golden-brown hair, and blue eyes. Truthfully, she was a complete MILF. Although, a bit crazy. Well, completely crazy. And Jonah hadn't been off base when he accused her of being completely crazy. And Madison?
Well, she was just a brat.
However, he couldn't help but be frustrated with them both. He could understand the dislike and distrust but the disrespect? He was a soldier that fought for terrorist hippies who wanted monsters to destroy the planet.
Excuse-fucking-him for doing his job.
Finally, he spoke. He told Emma he didn't think she was in any position to tell him what to do. Especially after her big-brain world ending scheme.
"I wasn't trying to end the world! I-!" Emma began but he cut her off.
He told her she just thought those monsters would restart the world passively and there would be peace on her. He told her to face it: She was a horrible human being and mother. Okay with the thought of her ex-husband and billions of people dying and thinking her daughter would be okay with any of that. He told her she should be thankful he stopped his men from wanting to execute her in front of her daughter.
Emma's scowl disappeared and she looked angry then regretful then finally depressed. His words may have been harsh but he hadn't said anything wrong.
"Leave my mom alone!"
He sighed in annoyance once again. Slowly, he turned to the young girl with narrowed eyes who backed away in fear. She pushed herself against the back wall of the cell as he approached.
He told her she's just as bad as her mother. He asked if she had any idea the horrors she unleashed with Mothra? Stupidly, the brat shook her head with wide fearful eyes and he fought the urge to smack her across the face.
He took a step back and reached for a remote beforing turning on the TV he had soldiers placed in the mini-prison. Instantly, Emma and Madison got a front row seat to the horrors they unleashed on the world.
First, the monster, codename Shin Godzilla, who wiped out New York City overnight. The footage barely captured what they were able to but showed them the same destruction. The giant reptilian monster with small white eyes unleashed clouds of black smoke from its mouth across the island city before flames followed then a purple ray of light - its atomic breath that vaporized anything in its path. The island city, his former home, had been completely destroyed in only a few hours with the deaths in the millions.
He turned back to the frozen and wide eyed captives. He then switched to another news station showing the other monster they unleashed, Shin Mothra, a giant moth with red colored wings and eyes as it laid larvae along a building… Then one by one, they began to move toward civilians… before devouring them… Men, women, and children…
He shut the TV off as he heard Emma begin to hyperventilate while Madison full on vomited in one corner of her cell. Both had tears in their eyes. He almost felt bad. Almost. But this was partly their fault. Jonah should have never enabled Emma and Madison should have kept far the fuck away from these monstrousities.
"I-I d-didn't-! I-I…" Emma fell to her knees, broken and sobbing. Madison had stopped vomiting and stared at her feet.
He sighed once again for the twelfth time that night. He then told them both they are now prisoners of… Shit, he thought… They needed a name… Quickly, he came up with one. He could always change it later.
Apex.
He told them they are now prisoners of Apex. They will be kept in their cells for the time being until he figures out what to do with them but first he's going to clean Maddie's cell. He left the mini-prison and his bedroom to the hallway to retrieve a bucket and mop. Several passing soldiers stopped and saluted despite him being one of the lower ranked soldiers but he was too tired to complain so he nodded.
Eventually, he returned and told Maddie to stand by the entrance to her cell. Surprisingly, she did without complaint. He handcuffed her to the cell door and opened it. He then began to clean, ignoring the sullen Emma and sniffling Madison. When he finished, he closed the cell, pushing Madison back into her cell and unhandcuffed her. He then told them both goodnight and left the mini-prision, preparing for a long discussion with his men.
I really need to stop writing more stories but this will PROBABLY be another short story like my Scream fic. I've had this drafted for about a year or so and it was actually going to be an evil self-insert fic but I've decided to make a more serious fic out of it. It also PROBABLY has something to do with me rewatching Shin Godzilla which I love. I enjoy the Legendary films but Shin Godzilla is just great imo haha this story was most inspired by my reaction to watching King of the Monsters. As you can already guess, this is an AU where all the legendary monsters are Shin variants leading to an end of the world scenario. I do have a rough idea of the direction of this story. It will MOSTLY be horror and not as action-y. As for the other monsters, they will appear. And Kong? You'll just have to wait and see. Until then.
