For the canon/continuity of this story, I will mostly be using the Silent Hill (2006) film as my source material. My story works under the assumption that Sharon Da Silva, Alessa Gillespie, and Dark Alessa remained three separate entities at the end of the film. If you have any questions, comments, gripes, or complaints, please shoot me a message. Reviews and constructive criticism are much appreciated.

In the darkest bowels of Brookhaven Hospital, labored breathing could be heard, even above the dripping pipes and hissing steam vents of the dilapidated hospital room. Alessa Gillespie's body shook as her chest rose and fell with each labored breath. Torment in the form of pins and needles poked a thousand holes in her chest with each breath. Now that she had gotten her revenge, the pain had returned with a vengeance. She had expended too much of her energy to enact retribution on The Brethren, and now she no longer had the strength to keep the pain at bay as she once had.

"Our revenge cost more than we anticipated, but then again, we were willing to pay any cost. Weren't we?"

The voice came from the darkest corner of the room. Dark Alessa parted the privacy divider and walked into the room, stopping at Alessa's bedside.

Dark Alessa ran a hand along Alessa's bandaged check…a hollow gesture of comfort. They truly were two of a kind. Alessa…with her emaciated body still covered by 30-year-old bandages that were barely clinging together from age and neglect. Dark Alessa…with her old Midwich Elementary School uniform covered in ash, matted hair, and filth-stained face and hands. Both neglected, abandoned, forsaken, infected, cursed….

Her heavy, forced breathing never stopping, Alessa turned away from Dark Alessa's touch and closed her eyes tightly. Thoughts of rage and anguish at those that had thrown her into this hell of pain and misery still swirled in her mind like a hurricane. Through the storm of all those black thoughts and memories, a pinprick of light emerged unbidden to the forefront.

It was a very old memory…more a string of images from the past than a complete memory. A 9-year-old boy with dark brown hair and blue eyes wearing a Midwich Elementary uniform. His hand held out to take hers. The two of them laughing and running down the sidewalk in front of her home. Two pendants…one with a moon and one with a sun.

A single tear escaped Alessa's scarred eyelid and dripped down her cheek. Dark Alessa noticed the small sign of emotion and smiled patronizingly.

"How tragic. I didn't think you had any tears left to shed. Are you thinking about HIM again?"

Alessa turned to Dark Alessa and caught her gaze. She didn't say anything. She merely locked eyes with her darker aspect. No words were necessary. They both knew each other's minds. After all, they were both one and the same.

"It's been thirty years since you last saw him. Thirty years. Why do you hold on to these childish fantasies? Do you really think he would come here and save you, like a knight in shining armor from a fairy tale? Do you think he would come into this hell and save you from the darkness of your own heart?"

Alessa had barely spoken in thirty years. The fourth-degree burns over her entire body made breathing painful let alone speaking. Besides, there was nobody here to speak with. Dark Alessa was slightly taken aback to hear Alessa force out three words. In a hoarse and raspy voice barely more than a whisper, she spoke.

"He…would…come."

Dark Alessa cocked her head to the side and replied sinisterly.

"Don't you remember what you did the day he left?"

Alessa turned away once again. She closed her eyes tightly. She tried to ignore her doppelganger's words and hold onto the pleasant memory a few moments longer…before the pain and dark memories returned in full force.

"You do remember…you must…because I remember. Regardless, he's not the little boy from your memories. He's a grown man now. A corrupted and rotten adult, I'm sure…just like the ones that caused us to suffer so much."

As she spoke with daggers in her words, Dark Alessa walked around the hospital bed to face Alessa again. Though an entity made out of negative thoughts and emotions, she couldn't help but feel pity for the miserable woman that laid before her.

"Very well. Let us see if this 'hero' of yours is anything like the boy you still idolize in your dreams. We will ensure that he finds his way here. I wonder…will he run away to save his own life? Will he be consumed by madness and sink into the darkness like all the others? Or will he overcome this hell of ours and the monsters that we have created?"

Dark Alessa turned away from Alessa's bed and stared at the far wall. Her eyes seemed to peer through time and space, searching for something that only she could visualize.

"If his will is strong and he possesses a steadfast heart, perhaps he could be the answer that you and I both seek. We will see soon enough. He will come…he will return…to Silent Hill."

I tried to capture Dark Alessa's manner of speaking from the movie in my writing. She has a halting way of speaking, and she speaks in a mature, adult fashion, almost like written lines from a book. This conflicts with her child-like appearance. I also tried to capture the idea that they are both individuals, and yet Dark Alessa is still a piece of Alessa's soul. Therefore, they share thoughts telepathically but each still have their own differing opinions. That is why Dark Alessa switches back and forth between using 1st person and 2nd person references. They are the same yet separate.
