~Luigi's POV~

We quickly ran into this little shack as Professor Elvin Gadd closed and locked the door. I looked around the place, seeing that it wasn't that big, but it wasn't exactly small either (regardless of what the outside looked like). However, I didn't have much time to take in my surroundings, for a small bed caught my attention. I quickly raced over to it and gently placed the girl in my arms on the cushions, making sure her head was on the pillow.

"How is she doing?" The Professor asked.

"She's fine," I said. "Still breathing." I turned to him, grinning with relief.

"That's good to hear," He said, walking away a bit. I followed his movements, keeping my eyes on him. "But I have no idea where she came from."

"You don't?" I asked surprised.

"No," He said. "I don't think she's a ghost." I gulped down that idea. She felt too real to be a ghost. "Anyway, what's your name, Sonny?" The Professor asked.

"I'm Luigi," I said

"I think our paths were destined to cross. Well met, Luigi! You may call me Elvin." I chuckled.

"What is this place?" I asked, looking at all the tech around the room.

"Why, these cozy quarters are where I do my ghost-studying," He answered. "Professor E. Gadd's Ghost Research Laboratory! The Lab, if you're of a shortening mind." I nodded, understanding him...somewhat. "Now what brings you out to these parts?"

"I won a mansion in a contest I never entered," I answered, fear in my veins.

"Sounds pretty fishy to me," Elvin said. "So, you believe the mansion actually exists? I've been here since the lad of 20 and that mansion appeared just a few days ago. The spirits have fooled you!"

I froze, taking that all in. A few days ago. That's not long enough for a mansion to be built (obviously) so to hear this...you can imagine my anxiety and how high it was. I thought my world was spinning, my heart was quickened. Who would do such a terrible thing like this? WaLuigi probably, but if I thought more about that, something told me it wasn't him.

Then who?

"I don't know if it's a dream, an illusion, or what-all, but I for sure wouldn't be too happy winning a haunted house," Elvin said, making me chuckle nervously.

"Trust me, I'm not," I said, combing a hand through my hair. I should have known this was too good to be true. I should have done research before sending out Mario to investigate it. I should have...

...

Wait...speaking of Mario...

"Hmm," Elvin hummed, making me look at him as I dropped my hands from my head. "Now that I get a look at you, I just recalled...a guy with a red hat kind of like yours went up to the mansion without even stopping to chat." I perked up. "Was he a dream, too?"

"Wait, you saw my brother enter the building?" I asked with surprise, getting just as a surprised response as my own.

"What? That guy was your brother?! Oh, no! That's horrible!" Elvin exclaimed. "He wouldn't stand a chance against those ghosts without my help! You have to go in after him!"

"I'm sorry...WHAT?!" I yelled. "I can't go in there alone! It's dark and I'm...I'm..." I shuttered, thinking of what could be in there, what traps could have been set, and what dangerous stuff could happen. My mind and anxiety worked together in overdrive, scaring me into almost running out and going home when a soft hand touched my arm. I looked over, and saw a young girl, around my age, with brown eyes hidden behind circular lenses and long brown hair with bangs.

...

Now I knew this girl.

"Evelyn?" I asked, surprised.

"Hi," She said nervously, removing her hand as she waved slightly. "I heard you talking and thought I'd come to see what was going on."

Evelyn was a good friend, always there when I needed someone, and was very sweet. She wasn't the prettiest girl in the Mushroom Kingdom, but she was the sweetest and was always willing to help when you asked for it. You could count on her.

"Glad you did, Eve," Elvin said, walking over to the vacuum he was using earlier in the mansion and cramming it into my arms. I grunted, huffed, and puffed as I swung it onto my back. It was red, the same color as Mario's clothes. But, that was usually the go-to color most people went with for products. Why I don't know.

"Here's the plan: we'll teach you to deal with ghosts so you can rescue your brother, Luigi!" He added.

"We?" I asked, seeing Evelyn wave again.

"Grandpa and I will teach you how to use the Poltergust 3000. That's the device on your back," She said.

"Grandpa?!" I yelled surprised. "I thought your last name was Rodgers!"

"It is...but my mom is Grandpa's daughter," She explained. "Both she and my dad are out on a cruise right now, lucky guys." She huffed, crossing her arms.

"Anyway, get to the training grounds, quickly. We'll start slow," Elvin said, as I stood there, scared and nervous. My brother was in danger, and my life as well. If I went in there alone, I'd most likely be a sitting duck. Whoever created this trap knew what they were doing. They knew of my fear and my family and friends. If I didn't go through with this, they'd be in danger.

I had to do this.

So, with a deep breath and a nod, I walked into the training room.

~Tina's POV~

Darkness…

Cold, clammy, darkness…

Where was I? Did I fall down that pipe? Was I trapped? The last thing I truly remember was flying through the silver pipe and hitting my head on a coffee table. Everything was blank after that.

I stirred, hearing beeps and buzzes as my senses returned. The smells I sensed were nothing of a hospital, but an old building or shack. The sounds though sounded like hospital sounds, wasn't that either. They were suction sounds, like someone either vacuuming air or the rug.

But opening my eyes told me everything.

I was in a shack that was for sure not the house I grew up in.

"Where am I?" I asked, groaning as I sat up.

"Hey, you're awake!" A female voice said, making me perk up and look to see a girl with brown hair and eyes and beige skin. She was grinning at me behind her rounded glasses.

"Welcome to the Mushroom Kingdom!" She exclaimed. "My name's Evelyn."

What?

"Whoa, wait! Back up!" I exclaimed, swinging my legs over the edge of the mattress I was on to sit up more. "What do you mean the Mushroom Kingdom?!"

Evelyn blinked, considering my surprise.

"What do you mean by that?" She asked, cocking her head confused.

"I mean, how could I be in the Mushroom Kingdom when I was in Landow just moments ago?!"

Now her eyes widened, staring at me as her brown irises of hers glowed a neon blue. I stared, surprised, and waited for a moment before she blinked and her eyes were back to normal.

"Did…did you say, Landow?" She asked and I nodded. "You're from a different world?" Again, I nodded. "How did you get here?!"

I took a breath, explaining everything from my torturous birthday back home just listening to my parents pass out candy, to finding the silver pipe.

"And somehow, that silver pipe must have brought me here," I said.

"A Warp Pipe," Evelyn said, making me stare at her confused. "What you saw was a Warp Pipe. It's a travel device here in our world."

"Right…sure," I said, shaking my head from my confusion. "I have to get back!"

"I'm afraid the color you're talking about isn't one we've seen before," Evelyn said. "You were found in the mansion by Luigi!"

And I paused, hopping off the mattress as I stared at her. "Who?" I asked though she ignored the question.

"There was no pipe there."

"Wait…you mean…I'm trapped here?"

"You might have a purpose here, my dear," Another voice spoke, making me look with Evelyn to see a little old man with a white wisp of hair and round glasses. He must have been Evelyn's grandfather.

"Purpose? What purpose?" I asked, fear and anxiety filling my veins and boiling them to the point of popping.

"This silver Warp Pipe you speak of…did you hear anything before falling through it?" I stood for a moment, thinking that through as an angelic voice echoed in my mind.

"Valentina…you're needed home."

"Yeah. There was a voice, saying I needed to come home," I said confused. "Whatever that means. I was already home."

"Fascinating," The man said. "It seems our world could sense you belonged here."

"I what?!" I yelled. "I came from a different world though!"

"Landow, I know," He said. "But I, Professor E. Gadd, believe you were not born there."

I stared, my fear growing, but my heart was finally calming down from this shock. I looked at Evelyn as she glanced at me.

"Tell me, Miss…" He started, stopping as he realized he didn't know my name.

"Garcia," I said. "Valentina Garcia. Though, I prefer Tina or Valen."

"Oh, that's pretty," Evelyn said, making me grin before noticing the questioning look on E. Gadd's face.

"Tell me, Miss Tina, do you know your story?" E. Gadd asked, making me stare at him with an annoyed nature to my face.

"Yes! I was found on the edge of the forest in Landow and I was never adopted! Why?!"

"Because I can sense your magic," Evelyn said, making both E. Gadd and I looked at her. I, out of confusion. E. Gadd was probably just surprised that she said that.

"You what?" I asked.

"Consider this one of my superpowers," Evelyn said. "I can sense someone's power, but I also have psychic abilities."

"And?" I asked, gesturing for her to continue.

"I saw a kind of moon in your future, and a family you've never known," She continued. "I see a power within you that could stop any enemy that comes your way."

"You can?" I asked, making her nod before perking up at the sound of a voice calling for help.

"Guys! My flashlight isn't working!" It was an Italian accent.

"Oh, crap! Luigi!" Evelyn yelled, racing off to check on him. "Grandpa, I thought you changed those batteries!"

"I thought you did!" E. Gadd yelled.

Now, I don't know what I was thinking. I don't think I was thinking. Because I raced straight into that room he was in and stopped dead.

About five orange-colored lights were floating around and toward this man. I couldn't see him very well, but I could make out a green cap.

"Guys! A little help!" He called again.

"Hey!" I yelled, making the orange lights look at me, revealing themselves to be ghosts - of course - and causing the Man in Green, Luigi I assumed, to stare.

The orange ghosts started floating toward me now as the pitch-black abyss covered any potential getaway. But, part of me believed Evelyn about my hidden powers, my hidden light. I could always sense that I was different from everyone else in Landow.

And as if on cue, I held out my hands and a bright amethyst glow appeared around them. I stared, shocked that Evelyn was indeed right.

I did have magic.

I looked up at the ghosts, watching them still float toward me. I held myself, determined and strong, as I swung up my hands and aimed my palms at them. The amethyst-colored energy changed to white, like a flashlight, and stunned them, making their hearts reveal themselves to us.

"Now!" I yelled, making Luigi jump into action and suck them all in one by one. Once he got the last one, I released the power and the lights turned on.

"Wow," I said, my shock slowly turning into a smile. "That was AWESOME!" I hopped and twirled in excitement before my gaze landed on Luigi…

…and I froze.

My heart fluttered and butterflies swarmed around my stomach. His sapphire eyes stared into my violet ones, and his grin was sweet, genuine even.

What's this feeling? I thought to myself. I've never felt it before.

"H-Hi," He said, making me perk up. "I'm L-Luigi."

"Valentina," I said, returning that simple, yet powerful, grin.

"Valentina…that's a pretty name," He said.

~Luigi's POV~

Do you know how some people say that they just knew they found the right girl by just looking them in the eye or just by a single touch of the hand?

I know what they mean now.
