The Trial
The ground under him trembled as the sound of enemy soldiers approaching could be heard getting closer and closer. The Master looked at the Servants behind him, a Dragon Slayer Saber, a Legendary Archer, and a Lancer from the Round Table. No words needed, they understood what had to be done.
The Master nodded his head, the Servants followed, and all 4 of them emerged to face the enemy army. The soldiers opened fire on their attackers as soon as they saw them, their laser rifles covering the sky and aiming straight for the 4. The Lancer moved in and summoned a shield to block the shots, covering his partners, as the Archer prepared his bow and began firing at them, his arrows piercing their heads before they could react.
With the Archer keeping them busy, the Master, Saber and Lancer moved out of cover and charged straight at the enemies, dodging the shots as they got closer and closer.
The Saber was the first to engage, using his sword to slash several of the soldiers appart while his armor blocked the shots of those around them. The Lancer followed soon after, with the Master behind him to keep himself safe with the Lancer's shield.
The Archer kept thinning the enemy line and clearing a path for his allies, and things were looking good, the number of soldiers kept going down and down, and the enemy commander was soon on sight, but the fight was far from over.
From behind the commander, 10 soldiers with different armor emerged, and instead of wielding the same laser rifles, each of them had a sword with a plasma core inside, which powered the edge of the weapon. The 10 warriors jumped at the Saber and Lancer, with the Archer picking two of them off from range before the fight could begin.
The Saber and the Lancer engaged the 8 remaining warriors, with the Archer taking care of the rest of the soldiers. One of the warriors slashed at the Saber's leg while another attacked from behind, but before he could thrust his sword, a shot from the Archer right to his head forced him to block the hit, giving the Saber a chance to get back up and use his sword to cut the head of one of them, while slashing the other one across the chest.
Meanwhile, the Lancer was having a bit of a harder time. Although his heavier armor made it easier for him to block the strikes, he had to deal with more of them, as well as protect his Master. He used his shield to block 2 strikes at the same time as he used his spear to stab another one through the chest, killing him and making him drop his sword.
Then, the Master looked at the enemy commander, seeing how he was entirely undefended and in the open. His personal guard were the warriors sent to fight his Servants, it was only him. Then, he saw one of the energy swords on the ground, and rushed to pick it up, igniting it and running at the commander.
He lunged at the commander, only to be blocked by his enemy's energy shield, deflecting the weapon as he pulled his own energy saber and swung straight for the Master's head, with him ducking just before it managed to strike.
Both swung and their weapons clashed, creating a small pulse that pushed both of them back, just for them to rush at the other right after. Meanwhile, the commander's personal guard was being dealt with by the Servants. The last ones were more of a problem, but given their current situation, they couldn't go and help their leader, leaving him and the Master i 1.
The Master slashed at his enemy with a powerful strike with the objective to get rid of the energy shield. His enemy tried to dodge, but he was unable to and thus his shields took damage. He retaliated and stabbed the Master's arm. The pain coursed through his body, but he couldn't let it overwhelm him, he had to destroy the shield.
He tightened his grip on his sword and swung again at the chest, thrusting deep and pushing his enemy back a few steps. The commander then ran at him and tried to slash again, but the Master ducked under the attack and thrusted again, and with this attack the energy shield powered off for a second. His attacks were working.
However, soon the wound began to take its toll on the Master. The pain was causing him to stagger, his attacks were slower and softer. Not only that, but the commander's superior skills were prevailing, and his ability with the saber was overpowering the Master, even with his power sword.
Both of them clashed one last time, with the commander kicking the Master in the leg and staggering him, preparing to deliver the final blow. The saber came down onto his head, and the only thing he could do was move just enough to avoid the lethal attack. Instead, the saber thrusted into his shoulder, and the commander reached to pick it back up.
Seeing this opportunity, the Master raised the power sword and, despite the pain, launched one last powerful attack, which disabled the shield just when it landed.
Seeing this, the Archer knew he had a chance, so he aimed straight at the commander's head and shot one arrow. The arrow went through his head in an instant, and the commander dropped dead.
As the Master slowly got back up, holding his bleeding and stabbed arm, a voice echoed above them.
"Chaldean Apprentice Number 5: Ritsuka Fujimaru: Simulation battle: Approved. Please wait, you will be welcomed to Chaldea in short order" -
A lone woman stood in her office, next to a window that overlooked the Earth, and a small transport approaching the station.
"Director Olga, may I come in?" - a man spoke from behind the door.
"Come in Lev" -
The door opened, and in came a man dressed in a green suit and a green top hat. He walked across the office and ended up next to Olga.
"The last transport will arrive in short order, and the results of the simulations came in" -
"And? Do we have our last candidate or do we need to launch another search down on Earth?" -
"Well, out of the 5 candidates, only one of them passed the simulation, a japanese civilian" -
Lev then presented a hologram in front of Olga, showing the records of the simulation. The Director saw the fight that took place at the end, as Lev continued speaking.
"He took a lot of damage in exchange for destroying the shields of the commander. According to the AI running the simulation, he should've passed out from that attack, but…" -
"He managed to keep fighting… Well, looks like we have our 48th Candidate" - she then turned around and looked at Lev - "Prepare the others, we're finally ready to begin our mission" -
"Understood Director" -
Lev walked away from the room, a sinister grin forming on his face. Meanwhile, Olga was relieved to finally have the last Master candidate needed for the mission. With the 48, Chaldea's victory was finally within reach.
"Just wait father… I'll make you proud" -
Do any of you ever get the sudden thought of putting your favorite franchise in a futuristic setting?
Well, I did. And thanks to it, I did this new fanfic.
The futuristic aspects will be expanded further as the story goes on, and you'll see how Chaldea adapts to a story hundreds of years in the future
