Chapter 2: Quarterfinals
Shina was at home living a peaceful life after she left being a mercenary. Her house was simple and the way to her house was a dangerous one, she lived with land mines around her house for precaution. During the morning, Shina prepared tea and received an unexpected visit. "Yugo! How are you? You seem tired." Shina said to her friend that entered the place. Yugo was dirty and tired. "I took three days to arrive here because of the traps on the way." Yugo complained with a tired countenance. "I'm sorry, you can take a shower if you wish." Shina said waiting for good news.
When leaving the bath, Yugo accepted the invitation to drink some tea and gave news from her concern. "I've being searching and found that one of the Kingdom of Zoanthropes tournament participant survived a tragedy ten years ago when his village caught fire." Something that made Shina react with an impulse of surprise. "He said he had a friend called Jane" It was everything Yugo knew. Jane was the real name of Shina and she just found motivation to enter the tournament. "What's the name of this participant?" She asked Yugo which with his researches he discovered who he was. "His name is Cronos. It's important for you to go for yourself." Yugo said and Shina reminded she had received an invitation. "You are right, if someone survived the same tragedy like me, it is my chance to find again that friend." Shina explained aiming the tournament.
A man was drinking in a bar hard to be found while a black dressed woman wearing sunglasses sat on the other side of the table from the man called Shenlong. There were a few people present "Do you wish to participate on a zoanthrope tournament?" The woman asked. "No, that rich people's hobby." She gave up for a while and left the place. While Shenlong kept drinking a waitress approached him "Is that woman your friend?" after her question, Shenlong denied. "I will leave the job at the end of the month to marry." Said the waitress and Shenlong was mildly interested. "My fiancé is very rich, have many houses." She said to him. "Good for you." Shenlong answered. "Thank you for being nice to me." She said moving away. After a short time, a freckled boy went to Shenlong's table while the same was drinking alone. "Can I say something to you?" The boy asked him even without Shenlong being looking at him. "My older sister will leave to marry, even she not wanting it because the bar will bankrupt." He spoke. Shenlong didn't care on hearing the story. "Is that just fair?" The boy asked "Maybe." Shenlong answered. "I want to grow up soon to have the right to work more." The boy said. "Things are not so simple like that." Shelong said to him. He abruptly got up, leaving money on the table. "Where are you going?" The boy asked "I'm going to distract myself with some strong opponents." Shenlong answered.
Jenny finished her bath in her apartment. She admired her beauty in front of a mirror and besides being passed the twenties, she knew that she was a creature which did not age, forever frozen in time. She wore herself quickly because she had a client contract related to a tournament from a place called Kingdom of Zoanthropes.
Alan Gado was meeting with Jenny in his house, enjoying a good ice brandy brand. He didn't expect no less from her "You aged Alan." She reminded him while he sprayed his own brandy glass. He was surprised because of her comment, despite she saying that was nothing, looking away sullenly. That was uncharacteristic and he took note of that change of attitude. "I heard you're on the control of the tactical operations this time." Jenny said to him. "It will be my last operation." Gado explained himself confirming what Jenny have said. "I hope to meet some old friends." Gado said. "I'll not let you interfere with my business no more and the research facility is mine." Jenny abruptly said leaving Gado's home on an unexpected way flying into her bat form. Gado couldn't believe in how she was acting despite knowing that his objective was still to complete his job successfully.
Busuzima roamed into his lab until Jenny opened the entrance door. "Jenny! I will use you as an experiment if you don't behave yourself." The scientist Busuzima threatened the lady in red. "I'm after research materials to my studies about immortality." He proceeded with his speech. "Forgive me for leading Stun against you on the XGC time, furthermore, Stun is still alive. He was reproduced in the Kingdom of Zoanthropes." Jenny said to the scientist which got anxious to participate at the tournament.
A certain time after, the tournament was about to begin in the Kingdom of Zoanthropes where humans and zoanthropes lived in harmony. The King Orion was sitting representing the place which were hold the tournament and Alan Gado was sitting waiting good results from the zoanthropes and humans' union which that land had.
The judge of matches said that two participants from the tournament would only be introduced on the final matches with that exclusive right from both that were the best of the nation and would serve to test the winner from the first stage of the tournament and both fights were to decide the real winner.
Several battles occurred until the quarterfinals where Yugo, Shina, Alice, Uriko, Bakuryu, Busuzima, Jenny and Shenlong remained.
The first battle would be Yugo against Shina that were called to the arena.
"Ready for the fight Shina? I won't take it easy." Yugo greeted her.
"You know that as a warrior I can't quit my objective." Shina retorted.
The first battle was fought. Each fight had two rounds and in case of draw there was a third round.
The result from the first battle was Yugo the wolf being the winner and Shina the leopard being defeated by two to one.
"Here, that was a great battle." Yugo said extending his hand to Shina to get up.
"Anyway, If I find Cronos I will introduce you again to him." After Shina getting up, both handshakes.
"I was guessing that you would help me that way If I were to lose." Shina said and both went back to the benches to watch the next battle.
The second battle was from Alice against Uriko that were called to the arena.
"A fight between sisters, that I didn't expect." Alice said to her younger sister.
"We can be sisters, but I cannot lose." Uriko seemed determinate.
That way, the second battle from the quarterfinals began. Both fought very well.
The results from the second battle were Alice the rabbit's victory that defeated her younger sister with much difficulty that was Uriko the cat by two to one.
"You don't need to cry because of the defeat, okay?" Alice comforted her sister.
The third battle would be Bakuryu against Busuzima and both were called to the arena.
"For your fault I have nightmares, but my training was worth it. Be ready Busuzima!" Bakuryu said with revolt.
"Don't you want to come back and fight for me? You were a great guinea pig." Busuzima had no feelings for anybody.
That way the third battle from the quarterfinals happened.
The results from the third battle were Bakuryu the mole's victory which defeated the scientist Busuzima the chameleon by two to zero.
"I'm Bakuryu, the scourge of the night." Said Kenji on his ninja pose.
The fourth battle was between Jenny against Shenlong and both were called to the arena.
"It seems that after surviving your trauma your look also changed, you now have an identity." Jenny said to Long's clone.
"You seem to be smart despite beautiful, I need to take care with you." Shenlong said reminding Jenny already lost to him once.
That way, the fourth and last battle from the quarterfinals happened.
The results from the fourth battle were Shenlong the tiger's victory which defeated Jenny the bat by two to one.
"Do not get me wrong lady, but I really need the prize money." Shenlong comforted Jenny that got up awkward leaving the arena.
