"Stupid! Stupid!" Weronika recoiled. She backed away and raised a protective arm in front of her face, warily eyeing the much smaller girl smirking up at her with hands on her hips and eyebrows raised in mock amusement.
"Oh, come now, Weronika, is this how we are destined to meet from now on?" Elsie asked, innocent and airy. As she pouted, she placed the tip of one of her pointer fingers on the corner of her lips and tilted her head, amber eyes betraying nothing as she studied Weronika.
"I-I-I-It's not my fault you've g-g-gone and made things a-a-awkward!" Weronika snapped, crossing her arms and looking away self-consciously.
"Oh, Weronika, you wound Elsie!" Elsie clutched her hands over her heart, deepening her pout and furrowing her brow, vexed.
"H-hey, come on! Knock it off!" Weronika insisted, shaking a fist while her other hand went to her hip. She knew Elsie was faking!
"But I am not the one currently making a scene!" Elsie shrugged, smirk back on her face. She gestured between them as she spoke and even though no one was staring (thankfully) Weronika suddenly realized that she was the only one who was shouting.
"W-w-well why did you have to go and ruin it like that?!" Weronika refused to admit she was wrong. She wasn't! Elsie knew exactly what she was doing in the movie theater last week, teasing Weronika about the kissing scene!
Weronika was partially responsible, though, because when she attempted to cover her flusterment, she wound up digging herself an even deeper grave. She referenced the Polish custom of greeting acquaintances or good friends by kissing them three times on alternate cheeks. As soon as the movie was over, Elsie wasted no time in taunting Ms. Separack about calling her a friend earlier that day and demanding her own proper Polish greeting from the other girl. Now, she did it every single time they saw one another.
"Not every single time!" Elsie scoffed, crossing her arms and shaking her head. Unlike Weronika, she had more brains than that! She would never do something to jeopardize any of their images, lest it jeopardize Abyssmare. The only reason Elsie was less disciplined during the movie was because of the movie. As she told Weronika at the start, she wanted to enjoy her time, and she even wanted a break from her bodyguards. It almost seemed like Weronika was going to meet a new side of Elsie, but once the movie was over, Elsie went right back to her usual BS.
"If you're trying to make me hate you even more than I already do, then, well…!" Weronika trailed off, seething. She could either admit that she hadn't hated Elsie as much as she claimed, and that Elsie was able to one-up her in that department, or she could try to renege her words and totally kill the cool, witty, one-liner vibe she was hoping for. It was a real rock and a hard place!
"So angry you can't even speak, hmm?" Elsie teased, one amber eye drifting lazily shut as she spun a finger through the air, as if poking Weronika's nose as she gave the taller girl a disgusting, sickeningly sweet smile.
"You're the one who shouldn't be able to speak!" Weronika even sounded smothered and choked once she was finally able to talk. Unfortunately, it was nowhere near as clever or witty as she wanted.
"Awww, poor Weronika! Is the big, bad, mean, scary, old wolf too s—?"
THUD! Elsie was slammed against the wall, not hard enough to knock the breath out of her, but almost. Her feet dangled two inches off the ground. None of these sensations were what she was most concerned with, though. Nor was it the feeling of Weronika's large, rough hands gripping her dainty, delicate shoulders so fiercely. It was Weronika's mouth covering hers, finally shutting her up.
Weronika! Elsie tensed up. For a moment, neither of them moved. Well… This is… awkward… Elsie was just starting to feel unimpressed when she felt Weronika moving again, pressing closer to her. In her mind, Elsie gave a strangled squeal. She would be forever grateful that her body did not follow suit. The bearish wero-wolf would've never let her live it down! But even though Weronika caught Elsie off guard, that didn't mean there wasn't still time for Elsie to sneak back up and come out on top in the end.
"Silly Weronika…" Her voice was soft, breathy, and teasing. "I know I asked you to teach me how to say hello in Polish, but it seems to me that you may have forgotten as well!" After all, a kiss on the lips was very different than a kiss on the cheeks.
"I- I- I- Shut up!" Weronika looked away, eyes narrowing. What the fuck? Why did I just…? She felt her face flush, and her lips still tingled.
Oh, Weronika, you are certainly better than I expected at sweeping a villainess off her feet! Is it part of your attraction to superheroes? Weronika still had Elsie pinned to the wall by her shoulders and Elsie was smirking again. "Oh, Weronika, could you be any bigger of a cliché?" she asked.
"H-huh…?" Weronika suddenly seemed to remember that she was still holding Elsie quite tightly and closely, despite her claims that she was disgusted by the other girl. She set Elsie down awkwardly, or at least, that was how it was from her perspective.
"Oww! Hey! What the-?! I wasn't ready!" Elsie pouted up at Weronika from the floor below, arms crossed. How romantic, Weronika!
"Oops…" Weronika grumbled, then she reached one hand down and picked Elsie up by the back of the neck of her little black dress.
"Hey! Watch the lace!" Elsie grabbed at Weronika's hand until Weronika opened it again, dropping Elsie flat on her feet. "Oww!"
"Oh, shut up, that didn't hurt!" Weronika scoffed. Knowing Elsie, her ego hurt worse than her body!
Elsie only continued to scowl at Weronika as she clambered to her feet, looking as if she wanted to stomp them, but ironically enough, it was Weronika who stopped her. She was still looking away disdainfully, eyes closed, and something deep inside Elsie didn't like that.
"Well, I suppose Weronika knows a little about proper social etiquette after all," she said with a sigh, shrugging.
"A little?!" Weronika's hands were on her hips again, and she was indignant and offended. That was the Weronika Elsie wanted to see! The fiery fighter that got so revved up sometimes that she even lunged forward and kissed her rival with reckless, passionate abandon.
A tiny blush graced Elsie's face as she thought back to Weronika's lips, warm and insistent, against her own. She was grateful that Weronika seemed too wrapped up in her own irritation to notice any of Elsie's embarrassment.
She won't get me next time! Elsie vowed. I- I- I'll ask her to teach me a farewell and then I'll have my revenge! She could hear herself saying it now.
"Separack has proven to me that she has at least rudimentary knowledge of a polite and proper greeting, but what of saying adieu?"
Right before Elsie could actually ask, however, something stopped her. I don't WANT to learn how to say goodbye. At least not to Weronika…
The studio staff were treated to the sound of bantering and bickering from Elsie and Weronika for at least half an hour more, at least until Neo's song could blessedly and mercifully drown them out. But even though their argument was now inaudible, it carried on until the two participants were finally called in to join Neo for practice.
AN: Gotta say, I prefer Abyssmare as a foil to the other groups in that none of them like each other, but the card story "Road to No.1" made me LOL. I've also seen Twitter fanart of this Kabedon and some of it is REALLY good (and gay/D4DGay, LOL)!
Also fun fact, my mom's grandma is from Poland and her surname was Separack so that's why I made it Weronika's surname.
