by The Pighead
Sooooo... I decided to do this.
It was a while since I dropped something related to IC, more than one month (which is, to me, a big amount of time) and with RL stuff biting my ass at every turn, I had very little opportunities to really make progress on Chapter 2 of DEATHFAME (which is still coming, I will NOT end or cancel it, this is out of the question). However, I still wanted to work on and release something. And I did this.
I hope you will appreciate it, despite its short length.
To everyone it may concern,
I wish to start this message by apologizing about the silence and the lack of informations related to the recent events. We absolutely understand that the suddenness and the brutality of all this has been overwhelming. As such, this message is here to provide the most complete and exhaustive explanations on what happened, the informations we got provided with during this crisis and how the Foundation will proceed, going forward.
- In order to discover the reason behind the sudden disappearance of half the population of Earth, a joint effort between several iterations of the Foundation has been set up. Due to the unusual nature of this event and our initial clues all going nowhere, this collaboration ended up being crucial in order to obtain answers.
- The responsible turned out to be a galactic being only known by the name of « Thanos », hailing from the world known as « Earth-199999 ». His motivations for doing so are mostly unknown, though investigations have shown that the being did what he did in order to bring balance to the universe. It is recommanded to take those claims with a grain of salt, considering the immense amount of disorder Thanos' actions brought to the Multiverse.
- Despite the « Snap » (the name given to the event by the medias and the general public) being undid and all the dead being brought back, this entire incident made us realize that the alternate Earths became something we couldn't ignore anymore. In the past, our stance towards the Multiverse was to let it be and to not interfere with the business of the Foundation' counterparts. However, the crisis, as well as the recent research led by the Department of Multi-Universal Affairs, gave us all the reasons to believe that such an event wasn't an isolated occurrence and might happen again in the future.
- One of our counterpart agencies, located on « Earth-4113 », managed to use their own amnestics in order to make their world forget about the « Snap ». We briefly considered doing the same for our world, but decided against it for reasons that will be talked about just below.
- The leaks of classified informations about the North Korea Incident haven't stopped, despite our best efforts to sweep it under the rug. I assume many of you saw news reports and headlines about it on any TV channel and, at this point, we have to recognize it : nothing we will do afterwards will fix it.
- The rampage provoked by the SCP-001-SWANN entity known as « The Pighead », who already took the lives of more than 20 000 of our colleagues across dozens of alternate universes, seems to have recently came to a halt. Her current whereabouts are not known and the security protocols made in case of an attack are still applied. We also wish to remind you that this entity is susceptible of provoking a TK-Class Causal Restructuring Event, at best, and a ZK-Class Reality Failure Event, at the very worst, so she needs to not be underestimated.
- Despite our repeated attempts at locating him, the current location and whereabouts of Dr. Jack Bright still remain unknown. We have all the reasons to believe that his sudden disappearance is connected to the 001-SWANN entity, as multiple informations that got provided to us actually revealed that The Pighead' grudge against the Foundation was primarily driven by a need of revenge against Dr. Bright. What the motives for said revenge are is still unknown to us.
- As you probably guessed, these last months were pretty hard for our organization, due to all the reasons stated above. And, despite the risks such decision could have on our mission of protection of the normalcy, these incidents have driven us to take it : by a vote of the Council, we have decided to not take any further action to reverse the BK-Class Broken Masquerade Event caused by the North Korea leaks and to reveal publically our existence to the world.
Again, I don't wish to downplay the overwhelming nature of such informations but I want to reassert the need for the Foundation to stay strong in these unprecedented times. As said by the Administrator in the Mission Statement, mankind must not go back to hiding in fear. This holds true now, more than ever. In a time in which the anomalous and the unexplained had made itself even more menacing and unpredictable than it already was, it is imperative for humanity to have a defense line against new threats and to carry on our mission, even if it means having to found other ways of doing it.
I wish to end this letter by thanking all of our employees for the services accomplished through decades and decades. Your devotion and willingness is what allowed our planet to not crumble down. And, with luck, it will stay the same.
Secure, Contain, Protect.
O5-1.
And that's all! To provide a bit of explanations:
- This is the first chapter of an episodic series a la Counterpart Conferences or Glimpses who will heavily use characters and concepts from the SCP Wiki and make them have wacky crossover adventures. I always found that a lot of SCP-related things, whether we were talking about SCPs, characters, GoIs or concepts, were underrepresented in fanfictions. So, I felt it was my duty, as a longtime SCP fan and former Staff of the Wiki, to doing something to fix that!
- The universe in which O5-1 sent this mail is Earth-180213. This is the universe in which the events of the canon Broken Masquerade happened (which is why there's references to the North Korea incident which kickstarted the events of this canon) and the number of the Earth is a reference to the date of posting of the Hub for the canon, which was February 18th, 2013.
- The reference to Earth-4113 comes from Tales of the Beyond, by Ben2Dartmouth. In this Earth, there's an unnamed agency who wiped out the memory of the Snap from everyone' memories and who also worked secretly with several villains, like Jack Spicer. And yeah... they're a counterpart of the SCP Foundation. I don't know if it is also named like that but, at least, as far as I'm concerned, they're a Foundation alternate counterpart or equivalent.
- For everything related to Jack Bright, check Expanded Biography of a Fool, it explains basically why Pighead has a grudge against the Foundation and what the bad ol' SCP-963-2 has to do with it.
And that's all for now! So, see you next time (and it will take less time, hopefully).
