Chapter 1: Where am I?

My eyes hurt so much. I don't know why; the last thing I remember is that I was in my office, working on something.

What? Who am I, you're probably wondering right now. My name is Katashi Nakamura. I am 25 years old and I am currently working at Nintendo. Well, my dream was to become a Pokémon Master, just like no one ever was. I know it's kind of childish, but hey, I am working at Nintendo! Although I may not be a Pokémon Master, I still help in creating the Pokémon games that bring joy and happiness to countless children.

But that's beside the point here, I suddenly felt pain that was unimaginable. I don't know what happened; it happened so suddenly I didn't have time to see if a meteor crashed into our office or something. Well, I doubt that.

In spite of all my efforts to see what was going on, my eyes started to close, and darkness took over me.

And then, suddenly, I opened my eyes. It still hurts, but not as much as it did before. Compared to before, I can say that it doesn't really hurt anymore.

I tried to get up, but my body felt strange. It felt different. Then I saw my hands; they were smaller than I remembered them to be. And the rest of my body looked smaller too, like a 10-year-old's. I started to freak out. What in God's name is happening to me?

Then I remembered the trend of dying and then reincarnating into another world. I didn't know much about it since the only anime I liked were Pokemon. And now, with having to do work and all, I don't really have time to watch another anime.

I examined my room for any indication of where I was. I saw some photos of Pokémon. Pokémon? Well, the chances of me being reincarnated into a Pokémon world are slim, but wherever I am, there are Pokémon posters on the walls.

It's starting in Kanto, the first Pokémon region introduced in the first generation, and the hometown of our favorite hero Ash Ketchum. I wonder if I'm him. Looking down, I can see my skin color is lighter than his. So I'm not him. Then I spot a mirror; it isn't that big, like most girls have, but it's big enough for me to see my face. I try to stand up, but I can't.

At this point, I realized that both of my legs were wrapped in bandages. I couldn't move; it really sucked. I might have been reincarnated into the Pokémon world, but I couldn't even stand up to confirm my suspicions.

At that moment, a woman who looked like she was in her late twenties came in. She had red hair, blue eyes, and worry lines on her face. She was beautiful.

Suddenly, my head started hurting. It was as if my brain was trying to remember her. So many memories flashed before my eyes.

She was there when I spoke my first word, she was there when I took my first step, she was there when I got hurt playing with Pidgeotto. Wait, this is the Pokémon world after all. Yes, I remember her as my mother. At least in this world, her name is Sukasa Hitogashi, but I call her Mom. And my name in at least this world is Hiro Hitogashi. My mother was a single mother; I don't know what happened to my father, and I don't ask her about him.

He was on his journey to either become the best or die a long time ago, I don't know. But that doesn't matter right now. She loves me so much, she never lets me feel alone.

She is the best mother I could ever hope for.

In my previous life, my parents died in a car accident when I was five, so I had to grow up without them. Although my uncle and aunt took me in and never let me fall, it wasn't the same as having a mother. She wasn't technically my mother, but I remember her taking care of me.

She walked closer to me and looked down, "How many times do I have to tell you that you shouldn't be so careless? You never even have your own Pokemon with you! What were you thinking of going into the wild without them? If it weren't for Professor Oak, I don't even want to imagine what would have happened." And then she started crying.

I mean, I can understand how she feels. She's the only family I have, and the thought of losing me is too much for her.

"Mom, I was just playing in the garden when I heard someone in trouble and went to look. A Spearow attacked me. I tried to run away but fell off a hill outside of town. Then she looked at me with tears in her eyes and said 'I promise I'll never do that again.'"

She looked at me, trying to find out if I was lying, and said, "Okay. I'll let this one slide. Are you sure you want your trainer Laysan next month? We could wait for another year."

That's right, I am ten years old. It is one of the main requirements for becoming a trainer. Most people wait until they feel safe traveling alone, but some kids start their journey at ten.

It is the most promising profession in the world, but at the same time, it is very risky.

As I mentioned before, my mother is a single parent, so it's not that easy for her. And on top of that, our town wasn't very developed either. So, I had to become a Pokemon Trainer as soon as possible. Now that I've been reincarnated into the Pokemon world, I can finally fulfill my dream to become the best Pokemon Trainer.

"No, I'm fine, Mom. I can still go on this journey. I will be fine until the time comes. So don't worry. I'm going to be the very best like no one ever was."

She smiled, "I believe in you, my son." Then she gave me a hug. "Take care and good night," she said.

"Goodnight, Mom."

She left for her room.
