As I flew away from Knowhere, I couldn't shake the feeling of disbelief. I had just reunited with my best friend from the facility growing up, James. We had both been taken from our homes and raised in this strange place, and he was the only one who always had my back. It was a relief to hear that he had escaped and found a new life for himself, but also bittersweet, as I had always hoped to find a path to freedom like he did.
"James thank goodness your back." I said
"yes my friend I heard the story's you should be so proud of yourself." James
James told me about his adventures on the Kree home planet, and how he had fallen in love with a Kree girl and gotten married. I couldn't imagine him as a married man, it seemed so far away from our days in the facility. But I was happy for him. He had found a new purpose in life, a reason to keep fighting. It was inspiring.
It was strange to think that while I had been out exploring the galaxy with the Guardians, James had been somewhere out there too, living his own life. I wondered what other adventures he had been on, what other worlds he had seen. But he seemed content with his new life, and that was all that mattered.
As I walked back to the Guardians, I spotted Star Lord and the rest of the crew waiting for me. I could hear Rocket making jokes about where I had been, but I didn't feel like explaining myself. I simply said that I had seen an old friend, and Star Lord nodded understandingly.
I knew that no matter where our adventures took us, James would always have a special place in my heart. He was a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there was always hope for a better future. And that was something worth holding onto
