CHAPTER 1 IS OUT. I updated this faster than I said I would, just cause I was excited at how many people read and saw my story. I wasn't even expecting any comments until I posted like four chapters. Aside from that it's the weekend so I decided to use my free time to get the next chapter out. Or the first one I guess. I dunno, hope you like it!
Disclaimer! I forgot to say so last time, but I don't own Percy Jackson, because if I did, Percy would be a so awesome. Not that he isn't already I suppose.
General POV
A flash of silver.
Then another two.
Three figures sped through the forest at an astounding rate, jumping through the branches of the tall trees with a grace that could only be acquired with years of training. The one in the lead was a young girl, only twelve. Her bright auburn hair shimmered lightly as she leaped with great skill. Her bright silver eyes glowed with determination as she eventually came to a halt and raised her hand in a closed fist. The two girls behind her also stopped, and the oldest of the trio, at least physically, spoke up. "What now Milady?" She wore a tiara, and her dark hair flowed wildly as she shook her head to remove the leaves that had fallen during their travels. The last girl stood on the side, giggling as she watched the leaves fall. Her brunette hair shielded one of her eyes, but the one shown portrayed an air of confidence. All three girls were dressed in a similar color scheme of silver and black, a contrast that would've been sure to reveal a lesser hunter. The one in charge spoke out with regal authority, almost smiling as she did so. She, too, had seen the wild nest that had been her Lieutenant's hair and had found it amusing. The smile quickly left her face as she turned her gaze back to where she'd previously been looking. As the other two turned their attention to where their leader was watching, they grimaced at the sight of a small town.
"This'll be fun." The older girl mumbled, her bright sky eyes clouded with boredom. The youngest of the trio spoke out. "Hush, Thalia. Tierra, scout the area, and warn us if you find anything." As the girl spoke, her form shifted until she matched the now-named Thalia's age. "We will infiltrate the school and find the demigods. Let us pray that we can be done quickly. Understood?" The other girls nodded in unison as their expressions became more serious. "Yes Lady Artemis!" In seconds, they split up, and the spot they'd inhabited minutes prior was empty, with no sign of anyone having been there.
Tierra POV
Tierra thought that she was a nice person. She tried to be, at least, which was better than most could say. She did her best to ignore the whispers of the demigods as they spoke of how she was only mortal and would always be inferior to them. There had been a time when she'd fought back, charging into their faces to prove them wrong. It only worsened the isolation she received at the demigod camps. So she concluded it wasn't possible to change their minds with arguments. She would show them why she was right, though, and that would be with skill. Tierra shook her mind to clear the unimportant details. She knew about the aspects of the mission, and right now, that was the priority. Two weeks ago, a surge of mythological magic had appeared out of nowhere, and its aura had been too bright for a monster or titan to use, so the gods had speculated it had been a demigod or minor god. Artemis and Thalia would go undercover for a few hours and, using the Mist to their advantage, would try and see if it had been a demigod who had yet to find their roots. A shimmer of blue distracted her, and with a gasp, she stared in shock at what lay before her.
Ice. It's a powerful sub-element of water but still distinct enough that Poseidon himself couldn't use it to its full potential. Aside from Khione, a goddess who'd betrayed the gods in their battle against Gaia, no one could control it. Khione was against men, similar to Artemis, although it was a fact not mentioned to the rivals of sorts. One can certainly understand Tierra's shock when she saw a large chunk of ice sprouting from the ground. It split off into various points, the ends covered in a light dusting of gold.
"Lady Artemis! I found something!" Tierra almost frantically thought as she tried to contact her mistress. It took a few seconds to hear Artemis' reply, but when she did, she also sounded worried. "I will flash to your location. Eyes closed Tierra." Deciding she didn't want to get incinerated, she did as she was told. A bright flash later, Thalia and Artemis were looking around, prepared to fight. "What is the matter Tier- what is this?" Artemis started before her gaze landed on the chunk of ice. Tierra shook her head, watching the more experienced Hunters survey the ice.
Thalia POV
Thalia was tired. The past decade or two of her life had blurred into one long hell. It had started it off nice enough, she'd met a young mortal girl, Tierra, and she'd adored her. Around the baby, she could let go of her punk, kick-ass personality. Then she'd learned of her cousin's disappearance. Thalia would deny it severely, but before joining the Hunters, she'd had a crush on Percy. He'd been there when she'd awakened and helped her adjust to Luke's betrayal and Annabeth's being almost as old as her. As stupid and reckless as he was, he had been kind.
When she'd been offered the chance to serve as the Lieutenant of the Hunters, she'd glanced at Percy, only to see him staring adoringly at Annabeth. She couldn't deny it hurt her feelings, so she'd accepted. She did her best to squash her emotions every time she saw him after that.
After he'd disappeared during their war against Gaia, she'd wanted to do nothing but search for him, annoyed and frustrated when she couldn't under the orders of Artemis. It was one of the happiest days of her life when he'd returned, as one-sided as her feelings were. And then he left again. She'd hoped Percy would return, but she eventually gave up on wishing as the years passed. Thalia had been heartbroken to learn of his mortal parent's deaths, but she knew it was no excuse for her best friend to do this to her. If he'd been kidnapped? Well, they would have hell to pay whoever did that to him. Dimly, she was aware that she wasn't as loud as she'd used to be, and visits to the camps often consisted of consoling Annabeth. Life was just dull without her cousin/former crush.
To stack another thing on top of this, she sees a giant chunk of ice. It gives her a bad feeling. After all, the last time she'd seen Percy, he had been talking about how he was expanding his reach of powers. Thalia isn't sure if it's hope that blooms through her chest or anger at the fact that her cousin might be purposely avoiding them. If this is Percy, he's clearly become more potent than before. The surge of magic in this area had been days ago, and the scorching weather should've melted everything here long ago. Thalia approached the ice and hesitantly touched it before quickly yanking her hand away in pain. "Fucker! That hurts like a bitch!" She yelped out as she examined the burn marks appearing on her hand. Artemis glanced over at her, and Thalia could see the surprise on her face as she saw the burns on Thalia's palm. "What happened Lieutenant?" Thalia shrugged in confusion as she downed some nectar from her pack. "No wonder the ice hasn't melted. It's like fucking fire ice or something." Artemis blinked in confusion at her Lieutenant's response as she turned her gaze back to the ice. After a few seconds, she returned to the two Hunters before giving a command. "We're leaving. There aren't any demigods here, and we've found what caused the surge. The council will wish to hear about this." Thalia sighed in annoyance. The council was like a pity party. They were always blaming themselves. At least Thalia could semi-move on, but they were stuck on Percy's vanishing long ago. Time to see some somber gods.
