Chapter II: Beginning a grunt

Toka was the capital of the Fire country, a beautiful city with a size 1300 km² and a population around the 14 million people, making it by far the biggest and most populated city on all the fire country, this city is divided by 23 districts and every of these districts have multiple police precincts around it to help keep order on the city.

TOKA FIRE COUNTRY

ARAKI POLICE STATION

7:25 AM

Naruto and Ino entered the building, it was a pretty much a normal building, the walls were from a white bone color, but you can see the some brown stains around them, there were also some light panels on the ceiling that, it helped light the place up , there the pair could see the receptionist of the station, he was a man sitting on a desk sorting paperwork this man had a strip of bandage around his nose with a small goatee on his chin, he was dressed with the typical police uniform of the fire country [1] with a police cap on his head.

"Good morning, I'm officer Kotetsu Hagane how can I help you"- answered the now named Kotetsu to the pair of blondes after hearing that both blondes straightened up and saluted him.

"OFFICER NARUTO UZUMAKI, REGISTRATION 012607, HAPPY TO BE AT YOUR SERVICE SIR"

"OFFICER INO YAMANAKA, REGISTRATION 012604, HAPPY TO BE AT YOUR SERVICE SIR"

"Oh, you guys must be the new rookies, nice is always good to see new faces around here, the changing rooms are on the second floor first door to the left, girl on the right, boys on the left"-he said after moving his eyes to the duo as if he was inspecting them, which both of them later realized he probably was

"Thank you, sir, have a good day sir"- said both blondes at the same time and started running to the direction their superior indicated.

"Oh they are going to be eaten alive, now where I was"- Said Kotetsu chuckling at the sight of the pair of blondes, before deciding to keep organizing this files so Ibiki-san doesn't kill him.

After following Kotetsu instruction both blondes changed into their patrolman uniform the one Naruto was wearing was the same that Kotetsu used the only differences were the police belt on his waist with all his equipment and a vest with the word police on it.[2]

Naruto would have said it was a strange feeling that he couldn't describe he already did the duty, during the practical those 3 months but then he was technically still a student, and still lived on the police academy and was graded for his work, now he was a full-fledged officer, like Ino said he wasn't just Naruto anymore, instead he was Officer Uzumaki from the Toka PD.

Naruto grabbed his backpack and left the changing room, he needed to see the chief sadly he just realized he don't know where to go the station wasn't small, from what he saw it was at least a few floors of height and a few subfloors, so after looking around and not seeing Ino anywhere he decided to just go the easy route and ask some of the officer around.

The floor was compared to the reception, was more of a gray-ish white color from across the hall there were multiple people around from uniformed officers to detectives to civilian workers.

"Well excuse, me I nee- "-Or at least he tried apparently his fellow officers didn't really pay attention to him, actually some look like they were deliberately ignoring him, they were looking the other way around, those who were chatting between them started talking louder, and he could swear he saw a policewoman look at him directly in the eye and turn around and run on the opposite direction like she was chased by the Shinigami or something.

"Well so much for comradery on my first day i guess"- he talked sighing to himself- "Fuck I need to see the chief fast"- The blonde thought to himself-"Well I have to explore I guess, i need to do it anyway"- after that the blonde decided to keep walking the hall there would be eventually a sign or something.

Luckily for him he found it on the third floor there was a sign or more specifically a door with a name badge on it MORINO IBIKI , that was the chief's office, he and Ino needed it to see him first so that he can officially give them their duties, standing outside the door was Ino just like him she was wearing a patrolman or in this case patrolwoman, the uniform was pretty much the same the only difference that instead of a cap, she was wearing a bowler hat which was what policewomen used, the problem was that Ino looked like she had seen a ghost. He hasn't seen that look in her face since their first physical training at the academy, which even by his Naruto standards, this was too much, there was a reason so few people passed the police training, he will never forget their instructor words during the beginning "this is a training to pass from human to superhuman, this could mean the difference between life and death, never forget that" many people quitted after finishing that session , and even more down the road because of lesions, fear or they just couldn't keep up, That was an experience that is appropriate to call it a literal training from hell, though he understand why they needed that to pass from civilians to fight what could easily be a superhuman, there is a reason why many officers died on the job and why his parents have mixed feelings about him following his family legacy.

"Hey miss Diva"- Naruto called Ino by his academy nickname to gain her attention for the frown on her face it looks like it work-"Having second thoughts I think you are like 6 month too late for that, or did you find a white hair on the mirror "- Naruto joked to gain her attention

"I don't want to hear it from the Dandelion Yankii [2] – Ino responded with Naruto's own academy nickname which by the frown at Naruto face did annoy him.

"Someday, somehow I'm going to get Shika for that nickname, who cares that he is in Kubo someday he will suffer"- Naruto answered remembering who was the one who invented that nickname on the first place.

"Forget about that lazy ass, the problem is that guy we have as a chief"- Ino answered is such a brusque manner that make Naruto open his eyes and mouth.

"Chief Ibiki , why did you already seen him, did he told you something"- Naruto said looking directly to Ino.

"No. i wanted to see him, but he was chewing out someone, I didn't get most of the details but the look of that guy eyes damn, i was waiting to see him pee at any minute"- Ino said while her face turned green at the image of a grown ass men peeing.

"So you are scared because our new boss could yell us? … Ino we were at the academy they yelled us all day we were treated literally like if we were dogs- The answer made Ino frown while she doesn't negate the benefits that training gave her , it was an experience she doesn't want to repeat again or ever if she had the chance.

"I'm scared of working for a guy who could bullies us all he want and we can't do anything about it"- Ino said frowning her eyes while imagining the worst it could happen.

"Well is not like we got much of a choice about it, don't worry Aunt Konan told me he is not a bad person didn't I told you that before"- said Naruto while smiling at his friend

"Hopefully you're right. Well we have to cross that burning bridge anyway. But if he ever does anything to me, you will pay for it, do you get it Uzumaki"- Ino said while she poked Naruto chest with her finger to demonstrate she isn't kidding about it.

"You worry too much, let's go see to this DEMON KING you're so afraid"- after saying that Naruto took Ino hand and dragged her to the Ibiki officer , after reaching the officer Naruto started knocking the door.

KNOOCK- KNOOCKKK- KNOCHKKK.

"You can, come in but make it short"- it was a raspy and deep voice who answered from behind the door the type that obviously had seen some messed up shit, Naruto after hearing that start fixing himself and putting his police cap while Ino was doing the same thing, only for him to grab the doorknob after seeing her finish.

The chief office was a white room Naruto could see that he has a bathroom and a few plants, on the back he could see some diploma congratulating Ibiki for the promotions with right next to it was what look a young like a young man with silver hair he had a a sharp face with some piercing black eyes. But all of that was eclipsed by the presence that was sitting on the chair he was wearing a police uniform but the emblem was different noting his rank he has a scar on his face that looked like it was made by a claw but his eyes they felt like he was a predator on the hunt, he was terrifying , he was surrounded by a small pile of paper with a few notebook to the side and what looked like the chief on his promotion with a young kid maybe a friend or a brother, Naruto keep inspecting his new boss until he decided to break the blonde of his concentration.

"What I don't have all day, whatever you two wants to say, be quick and spit it"- The man said while crossing his fingers letting his chin resting between them after saying that both blondes starting saluting him.

"OFFICER NARUTO UZUMAKI, REGISTRATION 012607, HAPPY TO BE AT YOUR CARE SIR"

"OFFICER INO YAMANAKA, REGISTRATION 012604, HAPPY TO BE AT YOUR CARE SIR"

"So you guys are the new rookies, good I was asking when you guys were gonna show. Let me just says this from the beginning"- after saying that Ibiki stand up from his chair and start walking toward the duo while the duo remained saluting-"Whatever you think you know is trash. You guys are right now just mindless masses of meat and bones that hopefully can serve on this station. I expect you to learn and grown and hopefully become halfway competent"- Then he stopped looking directly at Ino-" I don't care what you were"- then he turned to Naruto- "Or where are you from"- then he stopped walking and putting himself between the pair his hand were resting on his back- "If for the smallest second I feel you aren't up to the task or if you ever disobey any of my order you guys can kiss your careers goodbye is that understandable, officers"- said Ibiki looking at the pair of rookies who were fighting against all instincts to not show fear in front of their commanding officers.

"SIR, YES SIR"- both said trying to show their new boss that they were ready for this.

"Well then I just hope you guys can keep up"- after saying that he returned to his desk and opened a drawer in that they were two files one orange and another violet he gave the orange one to Naruto and the violet to Ino-"These are your assignments since today both of you are part of the Patrol Division section 4 you are to report to Lieutenant Yuhi immediately to be assigned your duties. The office is on the third floor. That will be all. Dismissed"- after saying both blondes broke the salute and turned around and left the chief office.

"So there are the newbies. The Uzumaki boy is the last on a long line of officers and that Yamanaka girl while from civilian parents also received good grades at the academy and during their practical's. However, they soon realize how hard this job without a safety net really is and if they can't keep up. Well, is not the first or the last time I make everyone else a favor eliminating a nuisance of this department before it fucked us all up"- Thought Ibiki about his new subordinates, before deciding to go back to his work after there was much to do.

"So, he may be a little intense after all"- Naruto said to lighten up the mood while also trying to not look to Ino. He didn't need to, after he could feel the iciness of the glare, she was giving him for all over his spine. He only hoped he survived enough to go to his new post.

After leaving the office the pair walked to their new workstation more relaxed than they were before after all no one could be worse than Ibiki. Finally, they arrived to their new office, thanks to the nametag it was easy to notice which one it was, they decided to just pass. The office was just like white-ish like the rest of the station inside they were multiple posters hanging around the walls like the academy recruitment from last year, another about what to do in case of a scam, Etc. There was a huge rectangular table on the middle the table was divided with four chairs on each side with every chair had their own stack of papers. But what called more Naruto attention was the policewoman who looks like it passed out on her chair. Naruto could swear she was drooling all over her paperwork. On the back there was another desk smaller than Ibiki, the desk was pretty simple it had an old laptop to the left, while a few stack of papers to the right, it was positioned on a way that give the person using complete view of all over the office, there was a mid-30s woman with black hair on a ponytail that reached until a little lower than her neck she also had some vibrant red eyes ,she in contrast to the her subordinate was typing on her laptop concentrated like she was on a trance. That only seemed to be broken only upon noticing the pair of blondes after that she smiled at them. And start walking toward the pair which they responded by saluting her.

"Good morning you must be the new officers, my name is Lieutenant Yuhi Kurenai. I'm the officer in charge of this section, is a pleasure to meet you"- after she said that she extended her right hand both blondes decided to break the salute and took their Lieutenant and, from the two it was Ino who break the silence first.

"No don't worry, the pleasure is ours, we are both really excited about this"- After saying Ino started shaking Kurenai hand , while her eyes were shining at her seemingly nice new boss.

"Yeah, don't worry, we are ready to do anything you ask us, no matter how hard, or boring it is, you say we do Ma'am" – answered Naruto with a goofy smile on his face which brought a small laugh on Kurenai face which caused Naruto to develop a little blush between his cheeks.

"Well, I hope you can keep your promise, Officer Uzumaki. Hope you don't regret it later"- After saying that she turned around and lifted her left arm there she moved her hand to indicate the office- "This is Patrol division Section 4 of the Araki precinct. Basically our Job is to be the first responders to an emergency and provide support to the other division if needed"-after that she pointed out to two of the chair on the table indicating that they needed to sit.

-" Any questions?"- She said while both blondes were thinking if is appropriate to ask about the corpse like officer sitting next to them, ultimately Ino decided to change the subject.

"Well, where are the rest of our co-workers?"-Ino said thinking that currently there are only 4 persons on the office. This only lead to Kurenai to laugh again.

"Don't worry there are more people, like the one on the reception Kotetsu him and his friend Izumo are members of this unit. Though they prefer administrative work. There are more but most of them are on leave or just on another shift. Actually, there is another officer aside from corpse-chan but he is late" -She said will putting her right hand on her face to show annoyance at his subordinate lack of professionalism.

"So she did notice the corpse"- both blondes thought at their superior acknowledging the state of their new co-worker.

"well what about well her"- Said Naruto pointing with his index finger to Corpse-chan.

"Oh that is just Tenten. Don't mind her. Actually, she is very professional however she had to work late for the last two weeks. We were in a bit of an issue. Even now we still haven't finished cleaning up all of the following work"- -She explained of what happened with the now named Tenten. With Naruto just realizing that girl look surprisingly familiar but he couldn't picture of where- " Changing the subject do any of you can tell me the time" – she said that on far Icier tone than what she previous and she started to frown her face during it. With Ino looking at her watch she answered to her superior".

"8:19 Ma'am"- After saying that Kurenai frown started to be more pronounced and she started crossing her arms below her chest and moving poking her left arm with her fingers, it was obvious she was annoyed.

"I'm sorry but we need that officer to arrive so I can debrief you and assign you your work. Well at least Tenten can sleep a little more"- after she said she returned to her desk and started looking at her paperwork. Until suddenly what sounded like footsteeps come closer to the office.

"Almost , almost, almost and safe"- Suddenly a men on a disheveled uniform with a loose tie and with a cap on his left hand, the men had spikey brown and had some red fang like marking on his cheeks he was breathing heavily and looked like he was running from a while.

"Good morning officer Inuzuka, we are happy you care enough to join us this evening"- Kurenai said on a icy tone that was totally contrary to what she was saying. Apparently, it was supposed to scare the officer, which Naruto realized was working way to well because he could see how much color his face lost.

"Well you see Lieutenant what happened was there was an old lady with her cat and she needed help with her groceries. And my police pride and sense of justice didn't leave me choice but to help her. Sadly, that took more time than I imagined. I'm so sorry ma'am"- after saying that all three of the other people looked him like what could only be described like "really that what he went through couldn't you come up with anything else. That the worst lie I ever heard. You're the worst. You suck" but the officer remained firm on his story.

"If that is the case, I can't punish you for that you followed your police price and that is admirable. So what if you use that pride and sense of yours to help us . What about you clean all the cruisers of the station. I heard from the guys that the perps of the last nightshift made a real mess on the back of the cruisers. What do you think Kiba-kun? - she answered with a smile that showed that this wasn't a real choice for the now named Kiba.

"All the patrols….."

"Yes. All of them. Thanks for volunteering your coworkers will be thankful for that"

"Right. Kurenai-san I will do it"- he responded with a sigh of sadness at the lost of his free time and disgust of having to clean the puke of cruisers.

"Well now that we are all here please. Kiba can you please wake Tenten so we can start"- after she ordered Kiba, he gently touched Tenten's shoulder with his right hand, which Tenten responded with covering her face with her arm.

"Stop Lee… I told you I don't wanna join…..."

"Come on Ten…. Please you're making us look bad in front of the kohai"-Kiba pleaded to his friend.

Too late for that- Thought the rest of the people on the room between the blabbering corpse and really bad excuses already did that.

-"Come on Tamura"- he moved her should harder but still no response so he solved this problem the Kiba way always works.

"WAKE UP"- He kicked the leg of Tenten chair causing her butt to fall on the floor and her to chin to crash against the table.

"OWWW. KIBA WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU"- She answered grabbing him by his shirt looking ready to pounce him at any second.

"MMHHHM"- Kurenai fake coughed interrupting Tenten and subtly pointed to Naruto and Ino who responded by waving at her with a smile on their faces causing her to blush and feel embarrassed for the scene she caused.

"Well now that we are all here, we can begin. I just want to repeat my welcome to officers Uzumaki Naruto and Yamanaka Ino to this section. I hope that with a few times you can come to see this as a second home. We as your superior are here to guide you any doubt you had feel free to ask you".

"Thanks, miss Kurenai. I also hope that I can be a good officer to this section and I'm gonna try my best to be it"- Said Ino repeating what Naruto said a short time ago.

"Well if no else have anything to say. I'm going to assign your partners for this patrol Officer Uzumaki you're with Officer Tamura you guys are on the beat today meanwhile Officer Yamanaka and Officer Inuzuka take one of the cruisers to patrol the area. Let me remind you that we still have the open case with the smoke gang so be ready to report anything suspicious. Kiba… Tenten be free to explain what the issue to your new partners on the ride is please. Any questions? - She ordered only to then look at her subordinates who answered with a headshake.

" Well that will be all dismissed"- after she said that , the young officers saluted and went with their respective partner Naruto for his part went to talk with Tenten and gave her a handshake.

"Hello I'm Officer Naruto Uzumaki. I hope we make good pair"-

"Hello I'm Officer Tenten Tamura. And I hope so too, now come on rookie today is the first day of the rest of your life"- Said tenten while grabbing Naruto left hand and guiding him to the exit after this was his patrol as a full-fledged officer

[1]= I'm based the uniform sistem on the japanese police force so you can picture that uniform (right now is the summer one)
