5th year
I speak to Severus under the tree, us both sitting, studying for our test for next period. I put my head on his shoulder as he reads the pages. I smile at him as he speaks in his calm voice. He's handsome. I don't care what anyone says. He's so intelligent.
He looks over at me as I lift my head slightly up off his shoulder. My eyes were fixed on his. He gazes at my lips and then back into my eyes. I want him to kiss me but it never happens. He always pushes me away right at the precise moment or James shows up. Sure enough, I hear him and roll my eyes. "Snivellus!" We both look to see James and his friends coming toward us. "You are having fun with my girl?!"
"She's not yours!" He yells.
"Ohhh-" Sirius mocks.
"You want to go out somewhere together?" James helps me up from the grass.
"You wish!" I reply. "Definitely not. You're too much of a jerk."
"You are the one always hanging out with Snivellus. He is friends with those two death eaters! He's probably one himself!"
"Shut up, Potter!" Severus screams back clearly angry.
"So what? You think about dating him instead?" He looks my direction.
"Better him than you." I tell James as I grab Severus's hand pulling him away for us to leave.
"Wait!" Snape turns back to James and lets go of my hand. "Let's finish this!" He yells as he took out his wand. "You leave both of us alone."
James laughs as he reaches for his wand. They are both fighting now, until finally I hear, "Expelliarmus."
The wand drops from Severus's hand. "Nice one, James." Sirius chuckles.
The next thing I know Snape is in the air. "Stop it!" I stand in front of James.
"Come on. Just go out with me!"
"Yes! I'll go out with you!"
I hear Snape's angry voice in that moment. "I don't need help from a mudblood!" He yells at me as he was drops to the ground.
James yells. "How dare you call my girlfriend that!"
"Mudblood?" I repeat. I can't believe what I just heard. I thought he cares but apparently all he cares about is his stupid books and the dark arts. "All you do is study dark arts and now you call me a mudblood! You disgust me!" I scream. Tears form in my eyes. How dare he call me a mudblood. James is right. Severus is hanging in the wrong crowd. I have been ignoring it for too long. I grab James's hand in frustration as we both walk away. I'll date James before I let him call me a mudblood again.

I realize James is actually a nice guy. It's surprising. We are sitting together with his friends and I am enjoying myself. They don't seem like bullies at all. Perhaps I was with the wrong person all along and James was the right one.
