MHA
Chapter-7
I slowly made my way towards the office of the target; I had been investigating for the past week. It had been a ridiculous chore to get details about the operation. I had discovered some suspicious financial transactions while combing through the obscene number of financial records which I was able to find. The transactions seemed completely innocuous, payments made towards renting of warehouses, a logistics company and other similar things but when I moved to investigate the company and warehouses, found they were simply shells to funnel money.
As for where the money was going, that was hard to track as it was going overseas, so I did the only thing to efficiently complete my mission, Breaking and Entering. I am going to steal the data from the computer of the target which was strictly illegal but one good thing about working for the HPSC was that they were always ready to cover my tracks as long as I produced results.
So, I was here heading towards to the office at night, I had passed security and the night shift workers with my fake employee ID and disguise. Kaina was waiting for me outside with a getaway vehicle in case we needed it.
I entered the office while making sure no one was around. It wasn't even locked or anything which made sense as this was supposed to be a completely ordinary logistics consultancy. I quickly headed over to the desk of the target and booted his computer and inserted a flash drive. Now, I just has to wait, I was no computer genius and couldn't hack my way through everything, but the HPSC was able to get me some help and the flash drive had a program allowing me to steal the data.
This is was the most nerve-wracking bit of the problem, I got off the desk and headed to the corner of the room, so that if anybody entered, I could quickly disable them and not allow them to raise the alarm. After all, the flash drive was quite indiscriminate in collecting data and who knows how much time it would take to collect everything.
I stood in the corner and controlled my breathing to keep myself calm as I stood there; I could hear footsteps moving about in the corridor but nobody disturbed me. After a nerve-wracking voice ten minutes, I heard a soft beep. I headed to the computer, pulled out my drive and switched off the computer and arranged the keyboard and chair to how it was when I entered the room.
I moved to the exit and paused listening for any sounds, when everything was silent. I moved out and exited slowly moving to exit the building. I got into the elevator and went down. The security guard looked at me and I waved tapping my fake ID to the device which would open the doors to the exit.
They opened and the guard waved back to me and went back watching something on his phone. I exited and walked towards the parking lot where Kaina was waiting. She spotted me coming and turned on the car. I got into the car and smiled,
"Mission accomplished." I said with satisfaction,
Kaina looked at me and said, "I was expecting you to be chased by guards with guns and villains out for your neck. I was gearing myself for a high-speed car chase as well."
I chuckled at that, "Life is not a movie. First, this is a perfectly legitimate company they don't hire villains or mercenaries for guarding their office. The guards are provided by a security agency and they are more concerned with getting their pay check and heading home. They don't even have guns in the first place. Second, if we had to do a high-speed car chase then this mission is a complete failure because we will be in jail for doing something illegal and the company will be the victims, so even if there is any data about a crime, they committed it won't be used in court."
She pouted while driving, "That's so boring."
I smiled and leaned back to relax, "Boring is the best."
We dropped off the car at an HPSC office and then took my car to head back to my home.
I was then struck by a thought, "Don't your grandparents ask you any questions about being out late in the night."
Kaina shrugged at me, "I just tell them it's related to Hero business."
I hummed at that, "I guess being a hero is a great excuse for everything. Well, I have to sort through all these files. So, you can either head back home or go to sleep in my room."
She smiled at me, "Are you inviting an underage girl to sleep in your house, senpai? Maybe I should call Detective Yamato to protect me from your evil clutches."
I smiled, "Sure. No problem. You can call him if you want and if I ever go to jail someday, it would be for something far more serious. For example, the data theft I just committed."
She looked at blinking at my response and then just pouted, "That's was such a boring reaction, senpai." I ignored that comment, but I heard her muttering, "Anime was totally wrong."
I should have ignored that but I couldn't help but quip, "If you try to act like a tsundere with me then just know I believe in gender rights that means I have no problems in being a tsundere either."
I turned around to continue my work, I didn't have to see her face to know she was probably fuming at my response.
I heard loud stomps and then a loud bang as the door to my room was closed. I chuckled and continued the daily slog.
I was moving about in my kitchen, cooking up a breakfast for the both of us and was playing some upbeat music in the background. I was in a good mood, I caught All for One's trace and as long as I pass this information along All Might will be able to deal with it.
I continued my humming as I heard Kaina enter the dining room, she walked past and sat on the bar stool on the kitchen island without bothering to greet me.
I turned around and placed the omelette I had finished and said, "Good Morning."
She looked at me through her messy hair and mumbled something, guess she wasn't a morning person. As she fixed her hair, I saw her face looked exactly like a zombie and decided to give her a cup of coffee to at least wake her up a little.
When I was all done, I took my own food and sat opposite her. She was still out of it, but much better than before. I didn't make any small talk and finished my breakfast and then put both of our dishes in the dishwasher.
Kaina finally looked like she knew what was happening around her and promptly blushed in embarrassment after seeing me.
I smiled and said, "Looks like you are finally awake. Are you always this bad in the morning?"
She spluttered something intelligible before saying, "Not at all. I was just a bit tired. "
I chuckled at that weak excuse, "Sure, now why don't you go and freshen up. I bought some toiletries for you from the convenience store. Towels are inside."
She was still blushing but didn't say anything and nodded before escaping to the bath.
I just waited for her to finish, I had done all the work necessary sent emails to All Might and Nezu with the information and even updated Yamato. Now, they had to act while I continued the investigation.
Though, I asked Nezu to do something about that company, I had no clue what he would do though.
I was rereading a book about the history of quirks when Kaina walked into the room.
She was clean and put together as I usually saw from her. I couldn't help but think about how in anime the protagonist would get a nosebleed after the girl steps out of the bath something about glistening skin and nice smell. But, I can honestly you, it was nothing special her skin was the same as usual maybe cleaner and I couldn't smell anything other than the soap I had placed in the bathroom.
I nodded, as expected Yamato's advice about using anime as learning material was trash. It's good, I just asked HPSC to provide me with training on honey trapping, that was much more useful.
I closed my book and placed it on the bookshelf, "Well, now that you are alert. I got the information we needed and sent it to All Might; they will deal with it."
Kaina looked at me and said with obvious jealousy, "Senpai, your quirk is too useful. You can just keep working without bothering about stress or fatigue building up."
I smiled, "Yes, it is useful but I want your quirk as well. It would make my job much easier."
I didn't wait for her to respond and continued, "Now, we have to follow our new lead. Come on, let me teach you the fine art of kidnapping."
I took a hold of my coat and keys while moving out the door, behind me I could hear Kaina ask, "Kidnapping?"
We sat in the room of our target waiting for him to come home as I searched through his laptop. We had broken into his house with ease and searched through it. No need for any subterfuge at all, I picked the lock while Kaina kept an eye out and voila.
"Senpai, this is totally not what I expected. "I heard Kaina complain
I didn't bother to look up, "What did you expect then?"
"Don't kidnappers usually grab people off the streets into a van or something."
"That's for low level kidnappers. We are high level kidnappers, Kaina. Just like the villain who waits for the target to come home before turning on the lights to let the hero see them pointing a gun at them."
"Senpai, why does it feel like, you are happier the more you act like a criminal."
I paused and looked at her and spoke with utmost seriousness, "Villains are cooler."
She just nodded at that, "Yes, villains are cooler."
I closed the laptop and pulled out my trusty old flash drive and decided to head to his kitchen. He might be a villain but he sure had good coffee.
"Do you want some coffee, Kaina?"
"Yes, please" was the response I got looks like even she didn't care about us breaking into the house anymore. I am truly corrupting presence.
After I made the coffee and we were sitting on the sofa waiting for him to return. I looked at the time and saw it was about 30 minutes to the expected time the target arrives according to his neighbour.
The neighbour had recognised Kaina after seeing her and happily volunteered all the information in return for her autograph. Though, it seemed to have been quite mortifying for Kaina to know she has fans.
I took the cups and dumped in the sink and signalled for Kaina to take her position. We had made the room completely dark and Kaina was sitting partially hidden from view, she would only be visible when the target entered into the hall and turned on the lights. If it worked in the movies, maybe it will work here as well.
And I was hidden from view and would take him out when he was distracted, a simple manoeuvre.
We took our places and waited silently, till we heard the tinkering of the lock and the door opening, the target sighed and removed his shoes and slowly trudged towards the hall.
He turned on the lights and immediately saw Kaina and was shocked and began to raise his hands, I immediately struck him on the back of his head with a baton and he fell groaning on the ground still not unconscious. Taking no chances, I hit him again and this time he was truly knocked out.
Kaina looked at me, "Senpai, I still have this weird feeling that this too should have been harder."
I shrugged, "Harder is for All Might and those other heroes. If you can finish a job easily with minimal effort, why bother to do more? Efficiency is all that matters."
She looked at me and him and shrugged to get the chair while I picked him up and tied him to the chair.
I carefully showed Kaina how to immobilize him and then when everything was set up threw a bucket of water at him.
The man spluttered and looked at around us while trying to grasp the situation, he finally noticed the masked visages of Kaina and I but before he could say or do anything else. I spoke up, "Don't bother using your quirk. I know, you can move metal objects at a weak level. I suggest, avoiding that though unless you want your head to explode."
He looked at me, "I don't understand. What is this? Who are you? Why are you doing this to me?"
I held up my hands and said, "Well, Mr. Ashani. This is an interrogation; we are just concerned citizens and we are doing this to collect some information from you."
I pointed to Kaina who had her gun formed, "This is a gun and if you try anything, it will blow your brains out."
Ashani looked at us and said, "I don't know anything. I am just an ordinary man."
I sneered at him, "We both know, you are not an ordinary man. You work for All for One and you know where some of his labs are. You have been supplying him with medical equipment and I want to know where you set that equipment up."
He continued to pretend to be clueless, "All for One, who is that? I don't know what you are talking about. This is completely crazy."
I looked at him calmly and then raised my hand and put an ice pick in his thigh, He immediately screamed like a pig. I could see his façade broke and he was looking at me hatefully, I twisted the wound even more and he screamed some more.
He looked at me and spat, "I won't tell you anything.", I smiled and said, "You will."
I was cleaning my hands in the kitchen, this was a very productive day, we had discovered the locations of multiple labs, some were redundant as the police or All Might has already struck them, but they were more than 10, other locations located all over Japan.
I had not even had to torture him too much which was good because torture was terribly inefficient after a certain point, the person just wants to tell you whatever you want to hear instead of the truth to stop the pain.
Interrogation is a fine art and the various subtleties and nuances were difficult to grasp and master, but I would teach Kaina what I can.
I moved outside after drying my hands and saw Kaina sitting on the sofa with an uncomfortable expression on her face. The man sat there with an additional breathing hole in his body, I had killed him after I was done with my gun. Knives are too messy.
Kaina looked at me, "Come on, I called the HPSC. They will do the clean-up for us."
She looked uncomfortable but nodded and we made our way out, heading towards the car.
"Sorry if that was uncomfortable for you. But I wanted to show you the most harshest interrogations first, this kind is not very effective usually. I will show you the nicer and cleaner methods at a later date."
Kaina just nodded looking queasy, so I didn't bother saying anything else. I didn't take her to my home or the HPSC office as usual and instead dropped her off near her home. It felt like she needed to relax a little and clear her head, being near me just seemed uncomfortable for her.
Kaina seemed to have noticed that we were in her neighbourhood but didn't say anything, I parked the car and looked at her, "I will see you tomorrow as usual."
She looked troubled by my words, so I gave her a way out, "If you want to have a day for yourself. That's not a problem Kaina. Take the day off then."
She seemed grateful for that and nodded, "Thank you, Yasu."
She was about to head out and I was struck by a feeling that I should say something more,
"Kaina" I stopped her to say something, "If you are uncomfortable working with me, then it's not an issue. I will let the HPSC know and you can get your training from your previous instructors."
It would be a shame if she decided to stop working with me, competent help is very hard to acquire and her personality didn't clash with me. But, better to have a willing partner than someone who doesn't work with me.
She looked shocked at that, "No, no senpai. I am perfectly happy working with you. I don't need to change anything. I am sorry, I was just a little surprised that's all. I will be back to work tomorrow." She looked so panicked that I was sort of flattered.
I smiled at that, "I understand. Don't worry, I was just asking and you don't need to come tomorrow after all, I gave you a day off, didn't I?"
She seemed to have calmed down a little,
"Senpai, I still want to work with you. Believe me."
I nodded, "Of course, I believe you. Now head on home, we will busy for the next few weeks after all."
She had an uncertain smile but still decided to listen to me.
I was heading over to Musutafu along with Kaina today leaving Hosu behind for a few days at the behest of Nezu, the Principal of UA.
He had invited me for a meeting after seeing the information, I had shared regarding the various labs of All for One. I guess, he wanted to coordinate the raids on the labs and wanted the meeting to take place in his stronghold.
Kaina and me had not done much other than train with each other after the interrogation. I had decided to take a small break from my investigations and Kaina was kept busy building up her image by the HPSC.
I was curious to see who all he could ruffle up for the meeting, after all the members who were present during the last meeting are not enough for raiding the multiple locations at the same time as I guessed he wished to do.
I was mentally scrolling through my list of heroes before I was broken out of my thoughts by Kaina tapping me on the shoulder, "Senpai, we are here."
I looked out the window and saw the impressive gates of the UA academy, Kaina got us through and parked the car after a brief security check. We got out of the car and were greeted by a robot of all things which asked us to follow it.
Kaina and I glanced at each other before continuing to walk behind the robot while admiring the campus, UA truly deserved its reputation just based on the facilities available. As, we headed in, the robot knocked on a door and opened it, we were greeted by a large table with a projector placed on it and Nezu calmly sipping a cup of tea while working on something.
He looked at us, "Good Morning, Sleeper and Lady Nagant and welcome to UA. I hope you had a pleasant journey."
I smiled at him, "It was quite nice and getting the chance to see the best hero school in the country was not something I wanted to miss out on."
"It looks we are a little early though." I said as we walked around the table and took the seats near him.
"Not at all. You are right on time. The others should be here within 10 minutes."
I hummed at that, "So, who all have you called for our little get-together?"
Nezu smiled at that, "I wouldn't want to spoil things for you. You can take a look yourself." He finished and promptly turned towards Kaina.
"Lady Nagant, I have been following your exploits for a while now. It's quite amazing, you are already becoming a household name. It's good to see the younger generation succeed."
Kaina became shy at the praise and responded to Nezu but I tuned out from the conversation, thinking about the meeting and other random things.
As Kaina and Nezu kept on talking, the door was opened and we were greeted by a large group of All Might, Gran Torino, Naomasa, Nighteye and Yamato all together.
All Might was the first to greet us, "Young Sleeper, Young Nagant it's good to see you again. I have to thank you both for all the help given to us."
I waved off his thanks, "It's my job. Nothing special."
As we continued to greet each other, they all took their seats when the door was opened again and a trio greeted us. I recognised them immediately, 3 of the brightest up and comers in the industry, Gang Orca, Best Jeanist and Shishido.
All three of them were quite powerful and the HPSC were certain, they would reach the top 10 in the hero rankings in the future.
Nezu spoke up, "Gang Orca, Best Jeanist and Shishido good to have you with us. Take a seat, the meeting will begin shortly. Let's wait for the introductions, shall we? After all, there are a few more people who will be joining us."
Best Jeanist spoke up for them, "Of course, Principal." And the three of them moved to take the seats as well.
I looked at them and they too observed the people in the room, Best Jeanist and Gang Orca seemed more composed than Shishido who radiated a sense of wildness. But they seemed to a little star struck being in the same room as All Might which was to be expected.
Again, the door was opened and two old heroes walked in, Yoroi Musha and Recovery Girl, both were old names in the industry debuting long before All Might at the end of the so-called Age of Chaos.
The old man greeted us first, "Greetings, I am honoured to be in the presence of so many great heroes."
Recovery Girl meanwhile was much ruder, "Hmph Yagi and Sorahiko are here that means all of you are about to take part in some foolishness."
Nezu responded while All Might and Gran Torino looked like children who had received a thrashing from their parents, "Yoroi and Recovery Girl, we are honoured to have you with us as well. Please join us while we wait for our final member."
Both of them gave sharp nods while moving to sit down, we waited for the final member to come here in a tense silence, nobody was in the mood for small talk and we were just waiting for the last member.
Then the door was abruptly pushed open and in walked Endeavour with small sparks in his hair and beard. He completely ignored us other than giving a nod towards Nezu and glaring at All Might and promptly sat down.
Nezu smiled at his rude behaviour, "Endeavour, goof of you to join us. Now, let's begin this meeting, shall we?
