Hook stepped away from her in time for a black hood to be pulled over her head. Rough ropes were tied around her hands and feet before she could think to fight back. Someone pulled her up and threw her over their shoulders.
"Welcome men!" A round of rugged cheers came from everywhere. "Grab whatever treasures you desire and let's go home!" More cheers, more smashing of objects. Wendy did her best to struggle, to fight against the rope, to scream for help. But, her screams were swallowed by the chaos happening all around her. It was a wonder her neighbors hadn't called the police already. After a quick moment, Hook grabbed her chin roughly through the black cloth.
"Hush now, Miss Darling. Trust in me when I tell you it would be best for you to be quiet. You do not want me to have to gag you, I can assure you it will not be with my hands." She tried to pull out of his grasp, then shrieked in surprise when another hand came down on her behind, hard.
The air was suddenly cold, they were outside. Wendy heard the opening of a van door and she was dropped onto her side. Pushing herself up, Wendy gasped a breath to scream for her neighbors. Before she could, hands were around her throat and a gun cocked near her head.
"I wouldn't do that if I were you, Wendy Darling." Hook pulled her up to lean back against his body, the cold gun pressed to her temple. Several doors closed, the van started, and she felt the sway of movement. Hook lowered the gun and wrapped his arm around her middle, holding her back against him. She tried to breathe, tried to calm herself down. Smell the flowers, blow the bubbles. Smell the flowers, blow the bubbles. No good ever came from panicking. She focused on her breathing and tried to ground herself. She felt the ropes, she felt the vibration of the floor. She felt the strong mass of warm body holding her close. She smelled jasmine, sea salt, and something spicy…
She couldn't tell how long they had been driving or where they were going. After a time, Hook clamped his hand over her mouth, whispering into her ear.
"Quiet time, again." The vehicle had stopped, someone in front of her was talking to someone outside. Then, the vehicle continued, turning a few more times, before finally coming to a stop. Wendy heard the gear shift into park and the e-brake ratchet into place. The door swung open, Wendy was hit with a force of cold, damp air.
"Welcome home, Captain!" That was a new voice, one that Wendy thought she had heard before. Like a voice from a dream. She didn't have a moment to think before she was jostled, again. Pulled from the vehicle and tossed over another shoulder, Wendy bit her lip to keep from yelling for help. More afraid of the consequeces then where she was being taken for the moment. The cold night stole her breath; the damp air pushed through her clothes until she began to shiver. They began to ascend an incline, then with a soft jump, the man carrying Wendy placed her on her feet. She wobbled, unable to keep her balance because of the heavy ropes still tied to her ankles and wrists. A strong hand gripped her upper arm and kept her still.
There was a low rumble of movement all around her. She could just make out urgent whispers from voices, grunts from men moving heavy things. She began to feel a strange vibration under her feet. It was subtle, overshadowed by the gust of wind and the sound of massive cloth stretching. Then, someone pulled at the ropes around her ankles and wrists, untying them, then the dark hood was quickly pulled from her head.
Wendy blinked, dazed at the sudden change of vision. She was in the harbor on the deck of a ship. She could see the bright glow of the full moon reflected on the calm ocean water and the shadows of other nearby ships. Hook materialized in front of her, grabbed her upper arm again and pulled her away, up a flight of stairs and to the low wall of the rear of the ship. Once she was able to focus, she could tell the ship was moving. He was standing so close behind her, his hand on the railing next to hers.
"Now is your chance, Wendy." He whispered into her ear from behind her. "Jump into the harbor and swim home. No one will stop you." His breath was hot on her skin, tickling her ear. Wendy froze, watching the harbor slowly pull away from her. She fought tears, finally realizing she was being kidnapped, and may never see her home again.
"I do, however, have a different proposition for you," His fingers gently gripped her chin and directed her gaze away from the harbor, looking up to his eyes, dark in the moonlight. "Come away, with us. Come back to NeverLand." His thumb gently wiped a tear from her cheek.
