"What are you reading, Blythe?"
Gilbert's face turned red, and he buried himself deeper in his book. "Nothing. Something I need to concentrate on."
Gilbert didn't have to look up to know Bash was smirking. "Well, it can't be nothing then. What is it that you don't want me to see."
Gilbert didn't answer.
"Is it about medical procedures?"
"Nope."
Bash sighed in frustration. "Why won't you show me? We're brothers, right?"
"Of course."
"Then you won't mind if your brother does this..." Bash reached over and grabbed the book away.
Gilbert shot up. "Bash, give it back, won't you?"
Bash dodged his attempts. "No, I want to see what you're hiding. Besides, you don't seem that eager to get it back."
Gilbert surrendered. "Fine. But don't laugh..."
As soon as he said it, Bash started to chuckle as he skimmed over the text. "How to braid?"
Bash stared at Gilbert, obviously trying not to laugh. Gilbert shrugged. "Anne makes it look so complicated. Anyway, I stopped by the library, and it looked interesting, so..."
"Yeah, so much for telling me she's just a friend."
"She is."
Bash rolled his eyes. "Yeah...no. I don't believe that for one minute, and this book confirms what I know."
Gilbert shrugged. "Believe all you want. Anyway, I didn't purchase it because of Anne. Braiding can be very helpful during medical procedures, according to Doctor Ward."
"I've got a better book. I'll tend to Delphine first and then get it for you."
Bash left the kitchen and returned after a couple of minutes. "Here you go. I've kept this hidden away for too long."
Gilbert almost dropped it after reading the title.
"How to..."
He glanced at Bash, who, again, was trying and failing not to laugh.
"...satisfy your lady?"
Gilbert turned bright red.
"Now, I bet you will never find a book like that in PEI."
Gilbert opened the book and skimmed the pages, flushing even more at the explicit text. "That's for sure..."
Bash smiled in triumph. "Great. Now I highly recommend studying that book until you memorise it and can read it blindfolded. It will serve you much better than learning how to braid hair..."
Bash exited the kitchen again, leaving Gilbert alone, who had become invested in the book.
Yet another to hide under his pillow...
