A/N: I just can't help but think of a situation like this and it just seemed so funny to me that I had to write it. Also like I've searched high and low and I've barely seen any fanfics of Spock's time at the Academy so I thought, this is my chance. So here's hoping you guys enjoy it! Also the word Tūtū means Grandma in Hawaiian.

"It would seem that we have reached an impasse."

Kealoha let out sigh as she flopped back onto her bed, her gaze turned towards the ceiling as she felt her new roommate sit on his own bed.

"Tell me about it." She mumbled, feeling slightly miffed that their situation couldn't be remedied. "Perhaps I can find accommodations within the city." He offered, prompted the black haired girl to turn her gaze at him and frown. "Do you have any idea how expensive it is to live in the city. And didn't you pay the fees for boarding already."

She sat up, sitting cross-legged atop her still bare mattress as she did. She had had no time to set up her things yet.

"Besides you don't know where in the city you would find a good enough place to stay. What if its too far away? You couldn't possibly commute from the Academy and your home could you?" She asked, crossing her arms over her chest.

The half-vulcan was silent for a few brief moments before speaking. "You have come up with sure arguments Ms. Wailani. On your assessment, I agree that it would be illogical for me to find a place to stay within the city."

Another sigh fell from her lips as she rested her elbows on her thighs, cradling her chin between her palms as she looked at her new roommate.

"So what do you propose we do?" She mused. Her question was met with silence.

It seemed even Spock wouldn't be able to come up with a solution for their current predicament.

Kealoha had arrived at Starfleet Academy with a grin on her lips and joy in her heart. All those years of studying and finally paid off, and she was about to make her dream a reality.

She would become a Science Officer on board a Starship. Exploring new planets, and unknown galaxies. Discovering new species of creatures of both faun and flora.

The young woman had had a passion for it for as long as she could remember. Her great-grandmother would humor her with tales of her time as a Science Officer onboard a Starship. Kealoha loved listening to those stories and longed to have her own adventures just as her Tūtū had in her youth.

It had taken her months to convince her father to allow her to attend the Academy. Though he had no qualms with her studying, he had a problem with her moving so far away. But he could never say no to his daughter, and after bidding her family goodbye, Kealoha had packed her bags, climbed into the shuttle that would take her to the Academy, and here she was.

Glancing down at the PADD she had received at the Welcome Desk, the young Cadet wandered through the corridor as she attempted to locate her room. Her bags and boxes had already been delivered there and all she had was a carry-on bag. Finally locating the room, she began to feel a little nervous and excited as she wandered who her roommate would be.

Taking a deep breath, she punched in the code and the door slid open, stepping across the threshold only to be greeted with a sight she had not expected.

A young man turned his attention to her. From what a cursory glance could tell, he seemed to be in the middle of unpacking his suitcase. He was tall, taller then her at least, and had broad shoulders which prompted her to wander briefly if perhaps he worked out. But what really captured her attention were his ears. They were pointed at the tips.

Vulcan then.

"Are you lost?" He asked, looking at her in an almost inquiring manner, though she guessed that's what it was, his face didn't give away any emotion. She shook her head. "No, this is my room." You glanced at the gold lettering that was stamped into the wall just above the key code.

He shook his head. "There must be some error. I was under the assumption I would be sharing with a male." She frowned as she lifted her PADD to quickly bring up the information about her accommodations. "Well yes, we're are supposed to be living with the same gender, but I guess there was a mix-up." She held her PADD up for him to see where her information was displayed.

A brief glance on his part was suffice enough as he nodded. "Perhaps we should question the person in charge. They will be able to clear up this confusion."

So saying the Vulcan strode out of the room, and after a brief hesitation, Kealoha followed after him.

A quick conversation had revealed that the computers had made a mistake. Roommates were randomly assigned, normally to the same genders. It seemed that in their situation, there had been a glitch of some sort, rooming the two of them together. And since there was no other rooms available, they were promised that as soon as an opening for a room came up, they would be notified first.

Kealoha had no idea how long that would take.

"Look, the way I see it, we can either make this entire situation more awkward by being like this around one another." She gestured to the space between them, referring to the uncomfortable tension that seemed to grow by the second. "Or we could be grown-ups about it, and accept the situation and move forward." She really hoped he would choose the latter. Kealoha had no problem sharing a room with a male. He certainly didn't seem like someone who would snoop through her drawers. And she was certainly aware of other people's privacy.

The Vulcan seemed to think over what she had just said. Finally he gave a small nod. "I agree. It would be best for the both of us to move forward. And once there is an opening available for a new roommate one of us could move out." She grinned in delight.

"Of course. And we could even think of this as an experiment of some sort. We would be the test subjects and perhaps at the end of our stay together, we could share our conclusions with one another." Everything was a little experiment to her. Honestly, she loved anything that was to do with science.

"That is an interesting approach to the situation. But it is...agreeable." So saying the Vulcan stood from his bed. "I believe I have not yet introduced myself." He raised a hand in the Vulcan way of greeting. "My name is Spock, and I am from the planet Vulcan." Kealoha stood as well, giving her new roommate a smile. "And my name is Kealoha Wailani, from planet Earth." She added, smiling at her own joke.

Their eyes met, and their gazes held for a few moments longer then necessary. "It would seem we have a rather interesting year ahead of us, Ms. Wailani." She only gave a small smile at the use of her last name. He was so formal, it was adorable.

"Well, as my Tūtū says, better to live an interesting life then a dull one."
