Chapter 6
Marinette felt as if the air had been knocked out of her lungs. All the hope that had begun to bloom inside of her had been crushed in an instant. Tears streamed down her face as she struggled to breathe.
Adrien knelt beside her, his hand on her back. "We need to get her to a doctor," he said urgently.
Tom nodded, his face grim. "I'll call for an ambulance."
Marinette's mind was in a fog as she was lifted onto a stretcher and taken away. She didn't know what was happening or what would happen next, but she knew one thing for sure: her life would never be the same again.
Adrien's heart skipped a beat as he saw Gabriel and Emily approaching him. Emily was alive, brought back by Monarch's wish. He felt a mix of relief and confusion wash over him. How could this be? He had just seen Marinette's mother die, yet Emily was standing right in front of him. It was all too overwhelming.
Gabriel's expression was somber, and Adrien could see the pain etched on his face. "Adrien, I'm sorry for everything," he said, his voice heavy with emotion. "I know I can never make up for what I've done, but I want to try. I want to help."
Adrien was taken aback. This was the first time Gabriel had ever shown remorse for his actions as Hawk Moth and Monarch. He looked at Emily, who was also visibly upset.
"Monarch's wish bring me back to life, but at a cost. It seems that Marinette's mother had to die for it to happen."
Adrien felt a lump form in his throat. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. He looked at Emily again, and his heart swelled with both joy and sadness. "I'm glad you're back," he said, tears streaming down his face. "But I don't know how to feel about all of this."
"I understand," Emily said, placing a comforting hand on Adrien's shoulder. "We'll get through this together."
The sound of sirens interrupted their conversation as the ambulance finally arrived. Tom rushed to Marinette's side as the paramedics worked on her. Adrien and Emily stood back, watching and waiting, both lost in their own thoughts.
Marinette's eyes fluttered open as she heard her father's voice. She was lying in a hospital bed, hooked up to various machines, and her head throbbed with pain. "Dad?" she murmured weakly.
Tom rushed over to her side, tears still streaming down his face. "Marinette, my dear," he said, his voice choked with emotion. "You're in the hospital. You collapsed on the street and we had to bring you here."
Marinette struggled to sit up, but a sharp pain shot through her head and she fell back against the pillows. "What happened?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"We don't know," Sabine said, entering the room. "Your father and I were walking down the street when we saw you collapse. We called an ambulance right away."
Marinette frowned, trying to remember what had happened before she blacked out. "Adrien," she said suddenly, panic rising in her chest. "Where's Adrien? Is he okay?"
"He's fine," Tom said quickly, taking her hand. "He's been here with us the whole time. He was so worried about you, Marinette. We all were."
