Unbeknownst to Genya, Tanjiro had been eavesdropping on the pair before Genya emerged from the room. Yet, despite the commotion he'd heard between the pair, the young demon slayer couldn't smell any sort of ill-will or maliciousness from Sanemi towards Genya. In fact, he could pick up on the scents of love and care, which was odd given how the Wind Hashira acted towards others, not including Genya. As Tanjiro debated whether it was a wise idea to approach Genya or not, Genya picked himself up and walked in the opposite direction to him, softly sniffling and wiping his eyes on his uniform sleeve. 'Poor Genya...' the boy thought to himself, decidedly pursuing Genya to talk with him.
Meanwhile, Sanemi coughed miserably into the basin below, setting it to one side once he'd finished the latest bout of sickness. The swordsman fell back onto his pillow, looking to the open window that cast rays of afternoon sunshine into the room. Sanemi thought about the hurtful things he spat at his brother and furrowed his brow, questioning whether this would result in Genya leaving the corps for good. The man felt he was doing the right thing and that it would pay off in the long run, that Genya would one day understand why he decided to be so cold. Still, seeing Genya visibly upset was a sight that tugged at his hardened heartstrings as he recalled a childhood memory where he comforted a young Genya when he'd tripped over some branches and scraped his knee. Sanemi forcibly pushed the memory to one side, assured he was right in what he was doing and attempted to get up. He had no time to be sick, not when there were demons that needed to be slain. Unfortunately, the Hashira's body protested against his plans and the man found himself flopping back onto the bed yet again. How on Earth had he gotten sick? The Hashira concluded that the it may have been the result of a recent fight he had with a demon in the midst of a rainstorm. Furious, Sanemi begrudgingly gave in to his body's desire for rest and closed his eyes, sleep quickly enveloping him.
"Genya?" Genya whipped his head around, a cup of tea in hand. Tanjiro approached the boy and sat beside him, placing Nezuko's box to one side as he looked out onto the garden. "Tanjiro, what are you doing here? Are you following me?" In response to his accusation, the burgundy haired boy chortled aloud, lifting a hand up. "Oh no, it's not like that. I just wanted to see if you were OK, I heard you and your brother arguing." Genya froze up, peering into his cup to see the eyes of his reflection looking back at him in the piping hot, green liquid. Tanjiro sighed, tilting his head, "You know, despite your brother said, I couldn't sense any malice towards you. If anything, I could smell love." Genya looked up at Tanjiro, surprised to hear this, however he'd heard about the boy's superior sense of smell and so he, along with his personal feelings, chose to indulge Tanjiro's interpretation of events. "I just want my brother back..." Genya closed his eyes, lifting his head to the sky so that the cold fingers of the wind brushed through his black hair as Sanemi once did. Tanjiro, who couldn't help but think of how horrid he'd feel if his and Nezuko's relationship were like that of the Shinazugawa brothers, placed a hand compassionately on Genya's shoulder.
"One day, he'll come to understand and I'm sure you two will reconcile. It might just take some time, so don't give up yet." Tanjiro stood, motioning that he was going to leave the room as he bent down to pick up Nezuko's box. "Wait! Uhm, do you want to have some tea with me?" Genya grumbled, not wanting Tanjiro to leave or to be alone, but feeling embarrassed to have asked such a question. The boy smiled and sat back down, where Genya handed him a cup of green tea and the pair chatted while observing the beauty of the Butterfly gardens.
A knock sounded on the door to Sanemi's current lodgings, cracking ajar to reveal Shinobu carrying a tray with some medical supplies including some water and a bowl of miso soup. The woman chuckled softly at the sight of a sleeping Sanemi; snoring loudly, drooling, with his head propped under an arm and a foot sticking out of the duvet. As quietly as she could, Shinobu disposed of the used basin and placed a new one at Sanemi's side, then placing the remaining items on the tray onto the bedside table before daring to attempt to wake her fellow Hashira. "Shinazugawa? Wake up, I have some medicine for you." Reluctantly, Sanemi woke but before Kocho could ask how he was feeling she got her answer when the smell of the miso soup caused Sanemi to gag, turning the colour of grass. "I take it you aren't feeling much better?" Kocho asked, rubbing Sanemi's back as he held the basin to his face yet again. "Flu, eh? When can I leave?" Shinobu placed a thermometer in the wind pillar's mouth, silencing him. After a pause, Shinobu took the thermometer to read the temperature, then handing Sanemi a glass of water and some medicine. The young woman rinsing and then placing a damp cloth upon Sanemi's forehead. "You have a very high temperature, take these and they'll help bring down your temperature and ease your bodily aches." As much as the man wanted to protest against taking medicine, an angered Shinobu was a force to be reckoned with and so Sanemi took the medicine and grumbled his thanks whilst cocooning himself into his blankets. Kocho sighed, taking her leave to allow her colleague to rest up, knowing that he must be feeling quite ill to be so obedient without fuss.
Elsewhere, Tanjiro and Genya had decided to take a short walk with Tanjiro telling Genya the story of how he met Zenitsu and Inosuke. As the two re-entered the mansion, they bumped into Shinobu, who was busying herself preparing medicinal supplies to be used. "Lady Shinobu! How is Sanemi?" Genya probed, his tone riddled with worry. Shinobu smiled politely, placing the instruments she held to one side to properly address Genya. "Your brother has a very high temperature and is very sick, the smell of soup alone made him vomit. I've given him some medicine and he's currently sleeping in bed." Genya sighed, his concern evident upon his features. "Thank you for caring for him Lady Shinobu." Tanjiro hummed upon hearing Genya's gratitude, recalling how rude he'd previously been at final selection. "You're very welcome Genya, you should eat and get some rest yourself. Aoi is about to serve dinner if you'd like some, you too of course Tanjiro." Embarassingly, Genya's stomach let out a deep growl, causing Tanjiro and Shinobu to chuckle lightly. "I'll take that as a yes, then?" Shinobu bowed her head, continuing to cut the stalks on some herbs she'd collected whilst Tanjiro aided a very flustered Genya out of the room towards the dining area.
