[NOTE: Takes Place during Mrotrax' Owlphibia AU: Brought to Boil, Chapter 10.]
It was still late into the night when Edalyne Clawthorne landed in a nearby town with King.
her son, Olivier. his girlfriend, Anne Boonchuy. and Frog family of The Plantars (plus Maddie Flour.)
As Owlbert, Fleetwing and Fangora changed from their staff forms into flesh,
Eda glanced over to see Anne tending to Olivier like a mother hen.
"are you SURE you're okay, dude?" spoke Anne.
"I'm fine, Annie." replied the boy. "I'm a bit shaken up, but I'll be okay...You?"
Anne looked down. "same...I still can't believe all that happened."
"Just goes to show that you should always watch your back." said Eda.
"Even in this realm, there are hidden dangers that can sneak up on you."
Anne frowned, feeling embarrassed at being ambush in her OWN world,
after everything that she had survived and endured after five months in Amphibia.
"hey..." spoke Eda, approaching Anne. "don't be so hard on yourself, kid.
Even *I* wouldn't had expected a killer frog robot to just pop up in the human realm.
And, for what it's worth...you handled things pretty well."
Anne smiled at Eda. "all the same...I'll try to do better next time."
"Oh, don't you worry your cute little head over any of that." continued Eda.
"If that Assassin-Bot shows up again, I'll blow it into scrap and sell what's left of it back home."
"Speaking of, just how close ARE we to Anne's home?" asked Sprig.
Anne looked around. "I'm not really sure...Apart from that one trip to Oregon
that my parents took me on when I was little, I've never really been beyond Los Angeles before."
"Apart from Wartwood, that is." chimed Sprig.
Anne eyed her best friend. "Yeah...but that doesn't count here."
Olivier looked at his phone that his mom once gifted to him from her salvage of "human trash"
(which Anne helped him charge up, and figure out how to use properly.)
"Says here that we are in a a place called Bakersfield." said Olivier.
Anne looked at Olivier's phone...and got excited.
"Holy Frog!, My home is only 112 Miles from here! We could be there in a couple hours!"
"We'll leave in the morning." said Eda. "We need to rest here for now.
Hopefully there is a Motel nearby where we can sleep, preferably close to a diner."
"Like that place?" spoke King, pointing at a Motel that was conveniently right next to a Diner.
"Well that was lucky." remarked Hop Pop.
"Hope our luck keeps up." spoke Anne. "oh, DRAT! I shouldn't have said that...I MIGHT'VE JINXED US!"
"Jinxes aren't real, Kid." spoke Eda. "Hexes and Curses, yeah. But Jinxes are a human myth."
"You sure?, what if that killer robot comes back?!" spoke Anne, worried.
"If it does, we'll be ready for it." said Olivier, who held Anne's hand.
"We've gotten THIS far, Annie. and I fully intend to keep my promise and get you home."
Anne smiled at Olivier...and then kissed his cheek. "I never doubted you, Ollie...Thank You."
Olivier blushed, while Polly just rolled her eyes. "oh get a ROOM, you two."
"That's kinda the point, Hot Pink." said Eda, with a grin.
"Now, let's all get checked into a room and grab a quick bite to eat."
"Sounds good to me!" said Anne. "I've missed eating human food. Like Cheeseburgers, and Pizza!"
Eda grinned. "we'll see."
[Later]
With a jiggle of keys, a door opened and the party if Eight (Nine, if one counted Frobo's inactive head)
entered the clean motel room that had two beds, and Widescreen TV, and air conditioning.
"Well, this looks boring." said King.
"I don't mind." said Hop Pop. "Anything is better than nothin."
"That's the spirit, Frog Man." said Eda, giving finger guns.
Anne flopped down onto one of the beds...which turned out to be a water bed.
"Hey, COOL!" exclaimed Anne. "Ollie, come lay down with me."
Olivier looked unsure. "uhhh..."
Anne yanked Olivier down, and he too lay flat against the billowing bed.
"We had beds like these at that Hotel in Newtopia." spoke Sprig.
Both Olivier and Anne frowned at the mention of that city.
While Newtopia had some good memories there, it also held some recent bad ones.
"Okay, all of you get settled while I go to the Diner next door and bring over some food." said Eda.
"Okay, Mom. We'll hold the fort until you get back." said Olivier.
Eda smiled as she patted her son's head. "that's my boy."
Eda the turned and walked away. Once she left the room, King made a B-Line for the Air Conditioner.
With a *BEEP*, the skull-faced creature turned the machine on High and sat right in front of it.
It wasn't long though, until the Frogs got uncomfortable with the cold temperature.
"Hey!, turn that down!" snapped Polly.
"NEVER!" proclaimed King. "The KING of ALL DEMONS hates getting sweaty!"
Anne and Olivier watched in amusement as Polly marched over to King...and shut off the Air Conditioner.
King Looked at Polly and said: "turn that back on, Or this Motel is going to become a Crime Scene."
"NEVER!" proclaimed Polly.
King switched the Air Conditioner back on...and Polly switched it back off again.
The pair glared at each other, neither one backing down or showing any weakness.
As King and Polly proceeded to press the power button over, and over again. Hop Pop sighed.
"This is me, and my roommate all over again."
"Shouldn't we stop this?" asked Anne.
Olivier continued to watch King and Polly bicker like a pair of siblings.
"Just one more minute." said Olivier. "This is more entertaining than anything on TV."
[Later]
The door opened, and Eda entered the Motel Room carrying some take-out bags.
"Okay I'm back, and I brought some food." began Eda. "It cost every bit of human cash that I had, so you all better-"
Eda stopped upon seeing an odd (yet, funny) sight before her.
For some reason, both King and Polly were wrapped like mummies in a web cocoon and sticking to a wall.
"uhhh...what's going on here?" asked Eda.
"Polly and King got into a tiff over the Air Conditioner." said Olivier.
"Eventually, it started getting physical. and we had to break them up
and have Fangora web them up, and put them in a forced time out."
King and Polly squirmed and squealed angrily in response.
"We're keeping the Air Conditioner on Medium so the Frogs don't freeze." said Anne.
"And we'll let loose Polly and King when we think they can behave themselves."
Eda laughed at this. "Good work, you kids. I was worried King might tear the place down while I was away."
"For a minute, it almost seemed like that would happen." remarked Maddie, while petting her spider palisman.
Eda approached and set down the bags of food and drink. "Alright, everyone...Eat Up."
Eda then reached for King and Polly, and set them free from their bindings.
The pair then rushed over to where the food was (their prior conflict all but forgotten.)
"Once the food is gone, it's straight to bed. We leave at dawn." said Eda.
"Okay, Mom." said Olivier, as he unwrapped a Cheese Melt Sandwich and bit into it.
Anne then broke her Cheeseburger in half, and handed Olivier one. "Try this, dude. You'll LOVE it!"
Olivier took the half cheeseburger, and took a bite...and his reaction was immediate.
"oh my titan, this is Sooooo Goooood!" said Olivier (as if he were 'High.')
"Told'ja, dude." said Anne, as she ate her half of the Cheeseburger.
Once the two finished, Anne noticed Olivier had some leftover ketchup and mustard on his face.
Grinning 'evilly', Anne scooted closer to Olivier.
"what is it?" asked Olivier, noticing Anne getting closer to him.
"You have some sauce on your face." said Anne.
"Oh. sor-"
"Here...Let ME clean that up for you."
Anne then leaned in further, and to Olivier's shock...LICKED his cheek.
"ANNE?!" exclaimed Olivier, blushing beet red.
Eda snickered as she covered her mouth (while also remembering the time
she did that exact SAME trick on Raine when they were both teenagers.)
She wasn't the only one amused by this. Maddie Flour was grinning like a gremlin.
(while also casting a glance in Sprig's direction...and blushing a little as 'thoughts' invaded her head.)
Once Anne pulled back...she grinned like a Grinch. "oh, dear...seems I missed a spot."
Anne then proceeded to kiss Olivier on his lips...which made Eda smile as she mentally adopted Anne as her 'daughter.'
("you had better marry that girl someday, Olivier.") thought Eda. ("Or I'll never let you hear the end of it.")
[Later]
With the meal gone, the lights were now out and everyone had gone to bed.
The Plantars and Maddie were using the drawers of a dresser as makeshift beds.
Fleetwing and Owlbert were sleeping in the bathroom, perched upon the shower curtain poles.
Fangora was sleeping on the ceiling, hidden from everyone.
King was sleeping on a chair like it was throne.
And, Eda was laying upon one of the beds. Though, she had made quite a mess out of his.
with the blankets and pillows arranged in a way that it resembled a large bird nest.
Lastly, was Olivier and Anne.
While Olivier was trying to lay on the only other bed in the motel room,
he noticed that Anne wasn't asleep, and gazing out at an open window at silver moon.
Curious, he quickly got out of bed and slowly approached the Thai Girl.
"hey." spoke Olivier, softly. "you okay, annie?"
Anne looked over to Olivier, and let out a soft sigh.
"I know I should be sleeping...I am tired, yet I can't seem to get to sleep." began Anne.
"We are just SO CLOSE to home, that I feel we should keep moving, you know?"
"yeah...I know." said Olivier. "I'd feel the same way too in your position."
Anne looked at Olivier. "soo...You didn't feel excited before we last left for Newtopia?"
Olivier inhaled deeply. "I felt more anxious, than excited.
I didn't say anything then, but I had my own doubts about King Andrias.
I tried pushing it out of my mind, chalking it up to just paranoia from what Grunge had said before.
Maybe it was my Oracle magic kicking in, but I just...I had a bad feeling something might go wrong."
Olivier then exhaled deeply. "I should have said something...but you were so happy then.
I didn't want to take your hope away, so I kept my personal feelings to myself and hoped I was wrong."
Anne gently touched Olivier's face. "don't ever be afraid to talk to me about such things, Ollie.
Despite my hope that things would've work out, I would've listened to you."
Olivier nodded. "yeah...I know that now. I'm sorry I didn't say anything."
Anne smiled, and kissed Olivier on the cheek.
"there is nothing to forgive. We're HERE now...I'm nearly home, and it's all thank to you!"
Olivier smiled, yet also blushed. "I always keep my promises...or at least TRY to."
The pair then resumed gazing up at the moon and stars.
"ollie." spoke Anne.
"yeah, annie?"
"Can I tell you something...Personal?"
"Of course."
Anne inhaled deeply.
"Ever since I first arrived in Amphibia...all I wanted was to return home." began Anne.
"My first three months living in Wartwood was hard, and while I did have a home with the Plantars
I still missed my old home, and wanted to see my parents and pet cat more than ANYTHING.
It was like...having this empty place in my heart that I needed to be whole again."
"I know that feeling." said Olivier.
"yeah, well...I'm finally back in my own world." continued Anne.
"and yet...I still have an empty feeling. But, it's different from before."
"Are you...saying what I think you are saying?" inquired Olivier.
"yeah: I think I am starting to get homesick for Amphibia." confessed Anne.
"I never thought I would ACTUALLY say that, given all I did to escape from it.
But now that I have...there is a weird part of me that misses it, and wants to go back."
Olivier fell silent as he pondered this.
"you know...I kinda understand how you feel." said Olivier.
"You do?!" spoke Anne.
"yeah. I mean...I missed my family in my own world: Mom, King, Grandma and Grandpa, even Hooty.
But Living in Amphibia wasn't the worst thing to happen. Compared to how my life was before, it was an improvement.
Never having to worry about coven guards hunting me like a criminal.
I was free to to just be myself, and not have to constantly look over my shoulder.
I was...Happy. Happier than I ever felt in years. Amphibia was a paradise, despite it's dangers.
And while I am happy to be back with my family again...I really do miss dancing in the rain without being burnt."
Anne giggled softly.
"sometimes...I wish I could just take my whole family, and relocate in Amphibia." continued Olivier.
"We could start a new life, and practice magic freely in a place where we are are ALLOWED to be free."
Anne's eyes lit up. "I feel that way, too!"
"I mean, if I had my parents and Domino with me in Amphibia.
I think I wouldn't have much reason to go home to my own world.
I would still miss it, sure! but...not enough to leave my OTHER home, and family."
Both Anne and Olivier looked at each other with sad, and worried faces.
"what do we do, ollie?" spoke Anne.
"I don't know...guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it." said Olivier.
"But whatever happens from this point on...we do it TOGETHER."
Olivier then caressed Anne's face softly.
"You are the best thing to ever happen to me, Annie. Even if us meeting was an accident.
But now that I have you in my life, I never want to let you go."
Anne held Olivier's hand in place. "same."
"I thought I was fine with being alone..."It is better this way", I used to keep telling myself." continued Olivier.
"But you showed me how wrong I was to think that. And I never want to go back to that again!"
Anne then hugged Olivier. "we'll find a way to stay together...Somehow." said Anne.
Olivier embraced Anne tightly. "yes. we'll find a way...Love always finds a way."
There was a brief pause, and Olivier then grimaced. "oh titan, that was...so cheesy."
Anne giggled. "I like cheese, so it's fine."
The two then broke away, but leaned against each other
as they continued to gaze at the silver moon that illuminated the dark room.

Eventually...Anne and Olivier both drifted off to sleep,
their bodies still sitting up and leaning against one another.
Unbeknownst to either of them...Eda was still awake, and had overheard their conversation.
With soft exhale, the witch got out of her 'nest' and approached the pair.
She started to grasped Olivier to lift him up and put him back to bed...
...but as she did, something pulled at Olivier. Preventing him from being lifted any further.
Eda looked down...and sighed at seeing Olivier and Anne's hands were clasped together.
"oh, come on you two..." muttered Eda, as she tried to separate the two teenagers.
But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn't loosen their grip.
In fact, the harder she pulled their hands apart, the TIGHTER their grip got.
(Almost as if they were subconsciously refusing to separate.)
When Eda's efforts caused Anne to topple onto the floor...The Owl Lady just gave up.
"Ugh...okay, FINE. you love birds win."
Eda drew a golden ring in the air, and made her hand glow golden-yellow.
She then levitated the two in the air, and gently floated Olivier over and onto the bed.
Eda was about to call it a night...when she looked at the state Anne was in.
With their hands still clasped together, Anne was slumped against the side of the bed
While Olivier lay on the bed with both their arms stretched out far.
"oh, for the love of-, FINE."
Eda lifted Anne up, and gently laid her down next to Olivier on the bed.
The pair continued to sleep, none even slightly disturbed by Eda's antics
Eda then covered them up with a blanket, and gave them both a kiss on their foreheads.
"sweet dreams, my owlettes."
Eda then yawned, and went back to bed to get some more sleep before dawn broke.
[End]
[Author Notes]
This one is a bit different from my usual Owlphibia stories.
As while it still features my Olivier Clawthorne character,
it is actually based on someone else's fanfiction
based on my own story.
(So, it's a Fanfic of a Fanfic of a Fanfic.
Try saying that 10x Fast!)
Anyway. This Oneshot is based on the Tenth chapter
of the story "Owlphibia: Brought to Boil", written by Mrotrax on FanfictionNet
(who also goes by MarcR24 here on DeviantART.)
For more context, please read that story.
OR, at least Chapter 10, as this story takes place during it.
To sum things up, there was a part in the story that was glossed over
that I felt had potential to be a longer scene, and after getting permission
I decided to write my own version of this scene.
To sum things up, 'Brought to Boil' is an alternate universe/timeline
where after True Colors, Anne, The Plantars, Maddie and Olivier
are transported to the Boiling Isles, rather than Los Angeles
like in the canon third season of Amphibia.
But unlike in my story, Son of Edalyn,
The Party arrive before The Owl House's first season begins
(as in my story, they arrived at the start of the Second Season.)
Eda still has her Portal Door, and so used it to escort Anne back home
just as Olivier promised she would do in my Amphibia story, 'The Witch Boy of Wartwood.'
Only catch here is that Eda CAN'T take Anne to Los Angeles directly,
and so they travel from Gravesfield to L.A (which takes a couple days.)
In this oneshot, they are nearly there and need to rest at a Motel.
My choice to have the town they are in be Bakersfield is based on Mrotrax
stating that they are a couple hours away in his story.
And when looking up towns near Los Angeles that are at a two hours distance,
the best result I got was Bakersfield, so that is where they are.
Despite this being based on my own fanon series,
I did my best to keep this close to Brought to Boil's unique canon as possible.
Hopefully, Mrotrax likes it.
