A/N: this is for the 50 pairings challenge.
Neville sat at what had been the Gryffindor table, and looked at the destruction from the battle.
He could hardly believe it was over.
This past year had been something from a nightmare. Between the Carrow's punishing students with the Cruciatus curse, being beaten, and fearing for his friends and family he'd had to take charge in Harry's place.
Not that someone else couldn't have done it, but he felt like he was somehow responsible for the DA after Harry, Ron, and Hermione hadn't come back.
It was during this time he became better friends with Luna.
Somehow she had made this year seem bearable, and it was only after she had been taken off the train that he realised just how much he liked her.
Maybe in a few months, when everything has settled down I will see how she feels, he thought.
Although if he had learned anything from the battle it was that life was for living and sometimes you had to put yourself out there.
He shook his head slightly.
"Are you okay, Neville?" a familiar voice asked.
"I'm fine, Luna. How are you?" he replied, with a small smile.
"Better. Bill and Fleur looked after me when Dobby saved us. I can't wait to see my father," she told him.
"I'm glad you're okay. I was really worried when they took you," Neville admitted.
Luna sat down at the bench beside him and took his hand.
"I was okay. They didn't hurt us that much. At least not as much as we would have been at school."
"That's…good? I know it's not, but I guess I'm saying it could have been worse," Neville rambled.
Luna squeezed his hand.
"I know what you mean, and yes it could have been a lot worse," she said.
They sat in silence for a while watching everyone else milling about, their hands still clasped.
"I think I will try and send an owl to my father if I can find one. I want to let him know I'm okay," she said quietly.
"Do you want me to go with you?" Neville asked.
"I will be alright. I think I will go to sleep in the dorms after. I'm very tired."
He nodded.
He was very tired too and the idea of a bed was very tempting.
"See you later, Neville," Luna said, as she let go of his hand and stood up.
"See you later, Luna," he replied.
He smiled as he watched her walk out of the doors.
Yes, he thought, I will definitely ask her out in a few months.
