Story basics: Issei is Sora/Haseo. DxD starts after Volume 4 of .Hack/GU Last Recode. Issei has more than the Boosted Gear. He'll also be not as perverted and more normal in terms of his desires.
Btw Sora from the OG .Hack and Haseo are the same person incase some didn't know.
Sora was a kid who had no friends and decided to play a game and ended up becoming a PKer with a twisted mindset that thought he could make friends with other players by Killing them. But instead he ended up being Possessed by Skeith.
Haseo had the connection with Skaith because of his past as Sora, who was possessed by Skaith as one point and had his real body in a coma like many other players. When the MC of .hack defeated the calamity it allowed the players to return, including Sora, who had lost all memory of the game that he had been in. Then a few years later he played The World which was the successor game to the first one, and it was created with the original game's data.
In this story it the player who controlled both Sora and Haseo is Issei. Without further spoilers... begin reading.
Issei Hyoudou was a lonely child, he'd always had trouble making friends, so when he had met Irina Shidou and somehow managed to befriend the tomboy he'd been over the moon! Finally he had someone to play with! But that soon changed when his friend was forced to move abroad to London for her father's job, and once again he was alone.
Currently the lonely boy walked towards the park, where he and Irina had used to play often, he stopped at the gate and stared at the grounds of the park.
Memories of his time with Irina flooded his mind, making him tear up before he took off down the road, the loss of his only friend was too much for him.
Because the boy ran off he had missed the old man ranting about boobs to children, and later being arrested by the local police.
Issei ran and ran until the tears had finally left his eyes. He looked around to where he was and saw he was near some sort of store. The items in the window display were what Issei recognized as video games. He'd played a few before with Irina on his computer. This time however a particular game stood out to him.
"The World?" He wondered out loud.
"Hey there kiddo? What are you doing here alone?" An elderly male voice asked him.
Issei jumped slightly in surprise.
"Ah?!" he exclaimed.
"Ohto... sorry about that kiddo. I didn't mean to startle you." the old man apologized.
"I- I... I was just looking at the game!" Issei told the old man like a kid who'd been caught with his hand in a cookie jar.
The old man blinked before laughing.
Issei pouted at the man.
"Oi what's so funny Gramps!?" Issei demanded.
"Sorry sorry. You just reminded me of one of my sons when he was your age." the man explained with a chuckle. "Anyways kiddo, my name's El. What's your's?" he asked.
"I'm Issei, Old man El!" Issei introduced himself with his hands on his hips in a childish hero pose.
Old man El chuckled at the boy. His honesty was rather endearing to the old man.
"Well Issei. Why don't you tell me what you were doing here?" El asked.
Issei looked down at his feet a sad look on his face.
"I... my friend moved away... somewhere very far... she was my only friend... other kids don't like me for some reason." He told the man, he didn't know why but he felt he could trust the old man.
The old man gave him a look of sympathy.
"Losing a friend is always hard young man. But I'm sure you'll meet again." The old man said with a kind smile.
Issei sniffed and smiled at the man.
"Thank you old man. I hope I meet her again someday..." Issei said a little happier.
The old man's smile widened before he glanced at the game the boy had been looking at.
"Hmm... The World eh? A Virtual Reality game?" The old man wondered.
"Issei?" the old man looked at the boy who tilted his head cutely.
"Yes?" the boy asked.
"Would you like that game?" the old man asked.
"Eh!? Seriously old man? Yes! I'd love it!" Issei practically bounced up and down at the old man's offer to get him the game.
"Alright. But promise me something." The old man began.
"Anything!" The boy said.
"Go make some friends in that game, alright?" The man gave his condition to the boy.
Issei nodded frantically, his head practically a blur. The old man smiled before he went inside the store, only to returned several minutes later with a mediums sized box in his hands, about the size of Issei's head.
"Here you go Issei. Now remember your promise. Go make some friends and have fun." The old man said as he handed the boy the box.
"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!" the boy thanked the old man. His parents had taught him to appreciate gifts and this would be no exception.
El smiled and gestured for the boy to run along, which he did.
Soon after getting home Issei had shown the game to his parents, the were a little skeptical but nonetheless were happy their son was smiling. He had been depressed since Irina had left and they were glad he had been brought out of his funk.
Issei's dad helped him set up the game to his computer and soon enough Issei was in the game under the username of Sora.
Timeskip:
El stared down at the boy in the hospital bed. His act of kindness to a child had resulted in the lonely boy, rejected by even the players in the game El had given him, becoming a coma patient due to a virus that had infected the internet and the game.
"My child... I am so sorry... I never meant for this to happen... I know you will wake some day soon, others have already awoken... but I blame myself for this... I'm sorry Issei... I hope this last gift will be enough of an apology." The old man said as he held up a golden glowing object, it looked like a dagger or a sword.
The old man and the dagger glowed and sank into Issei's chest.
The old man closed his eyes as he felt his false body begin to breakdown before opening them again.
"You already possess the Boosted gear... But I'm sure you can find a use for Blade Blacksmith as well. Farewell Issei... this will be our final meeting... goodbye." El said as he faded away never to be seen again.
Several minutes later a confused Issei awoke, with no memory of The World or the old man.
Timeskip:
Middle school for Issei was frankly boring, he had good grades but it lacked any excitement to it. Excitement that Issei craved. So when he heard some students talking about a VR game that they play called The World: a dazzling twilight dream, he got curious and decided to try it out
If only he knew what he would be getting into.
Timeskip:
Issei aka Haseo was in a word... annoyed. It had been a year since he and Ovan had beaten the rampaging data virus known as Moralta and restored The World to its full self, before it was eventually Shut down entirely. He'd been in a highschool internship with some of the top scoring coding students in Japan during his first year... so why? WHY DID HIS PARENTS DECIDE TO TRANSFER HIM TO KUOH ACADEMY?!
Issei grumbled to himself as he crossed the school gates and was greeted by the sight of a stern looking girl with dark hair and glasses.
"Are you Issei Hyoudou?" the girl asked.
"Unfortunately." Issei responded in a dry manner.
"Hmph! I'm student council president Souna Shitori. I was asked by the principal to show you around. He told me you're last school was vocational? And you were the youngest student to have ever been offered a Coding internship at CC Corp. I must say... I was expecting someone more..."
"Nerdy? Glasses type who can't talk to people?" Issei interjected.
Souna didn't respond, she didn't have to. He could tell.
"Yeah... anyways let's get this overwith." Issei said as he walked past her.
"..." Souna narrowed her eyes at him.
"Is there a reason why you are being so rude? Kuoh is a prestigious academy and as it's student council pres-" she was cut off by Issei.
"Listen here Kaichou. I don't give two shits about this school's reputation. I was transferred here without my consent. I do not want to be here, at all. The only reason I showed up today is because my parents practically begged me to." Issei rounded on her and fixed her with a death glare, one he had plenty of practice with back in The World.
Souna stopped in her tracks, her body went stiff as a board, before she nodded in understanding.
"I apologize. I should have been more considerate of your circumstances. I hope you don't hold it against me." Souna apologized.
Issei rubbed the back of his head and sighed.
"I'm sorry... I shouldn't have snapped at you like that. It was uncalled for." Issei apologized with a slightly awkwardness to his tone.
"Of course." Souna nodded before she remembered something. "Oh before I forget..." she pulled out a slip of paper and handed it to him, "here is your class schedule. I had planned to escort you to your class but I realized that you probably want time to adjust. And my being around you would prevent that I'm sorry to say." she informed him.
Issei took the paper and studied it.
Looks like he was in classroom 2-A, had Math, then History, Science, lunch, then English, P.E. followed by two study periods?
"Why do I have two study periods?" He asked her with confusion.
"This school sports a great many clubs, we like to prioritize academic clubs but there are many others. The first study period is there until you find a club, the school with then place you in classes based around that club. The last one will remain." Souna explained.
"That makes sense... I guess." Issei said with slight trepidation.
Souna nodded.
"Glad you understand, now you should go to class. You can't be late on the first day after all." Souna said with a smirk.
"Right... I guess I'll head to class... I suppose I'll see you around." Issei said as he walked away.
Souna Shitori or rather Sona Sitri, lifted a finger to her glasses, which reflected sunlight and masked her eyes.
"Two? I better inform Rias of this... Ah... it's a shame I don't have enough pieces to Reincarnate him..." Sona sighed slightly forlorn at the development. n
Not that she didn't care for her servants but... what were the odds of one person possessing two sacred gears. Both weren't active from what she could sense, meaning he possessed them naturally... an even rarer occurrence in itself.
Sona sighed once more before she made her way towards the old school building, to meet with the Occult Research Club.
Issei arrived at the classroom and knocked on the door.
"Yes? Come in?" a female voice called from inside.
Issei opened the door and was greeted by the sight of him being stared at by several other students and one female teacher.
"Can I help you?" the teacher asked.
"Yes um.. I'm Issei Hyoudou. I just transferred here. I was told this is my class?" He said with uncertainty.
"Oh of course! I had just informed the class of your transfer. What perfect timing." The teacher said with a smile.
Issei nodded quietly and turned to the class.
"My name is Issei Hyoudou, but my friends call me Haseo. Pleased to meet you." Issei introduced himself with a slight bow.
He was met with silence as he stood there infront of a class that was 98% girls. The only boys were a pair who were giggling in the back and not paying any attention.
"U-um... Issei why don't you take a seat in front of Masuda and Motohama over there in the back." The teacher instructed him.
He nodded and quietly made his way to his seat and sat down.
"This is gonna be a long day..." Issei thought with a sigh.
"Two?! Are you sure?!" The buxom red haired girl that sat across from Sona exclaimed as she stood up in shock.
Sona sipped on the tea that had been provided by a dark haired girl that had a bust size that surpassed the red haired girl's.
"Yes Rias. I am sure, while I can't discern the second one, the first one is definitely a Dragon type." Sona told her.
Rias exhaled a breath she didn't realize she'd been holding as she returned to her seat.
"A dragon type... Thank you for telling me Sona... If I can get him into my peerage he might be what I need to free myself from this damned arranged marriage!" Rias said with a scowl.
Sona nodded in acceptance.
"Yes... however I must say... if it wasn't for the fact I don't have enough Pieces to recruit someone with his... potential, I would have reincarnated him myself." Sona told her with a smirk.
Rias knew Sona was joking, yet knew the statement was also true.
"Regardless means a lot to me Sona." Rias said.
Sona nodded and placed her empy teacup on the table.
"Of course. I must be going now Rias. I have council business to attend to. Please excuse me." Sona excused herself and left the room.
Rias sighed as she rested her chin on her closed fists, which were propped up on her desk by her elbows.
"Rias?" The black haired girl asked.
"Yes Akeno?" Rias looked at the girl.
"Shall I have Koneko keep an eye on him?" Akeno asked her king.
Rias thought about it for several seconds before nodding.
"Yes. Inform Koneko about him and tell her to watch but not to engage unless necessary." She gave the order, which Akeno nodded in acknowledgment.
"Of course." Akeno said before she left to inform Koneko.
Rias let out one last sigh as she relaxed in her chair.
"I'm running out of time..." She muttered with a tight expression of discomfort.
Issei was right... it was definitely going to be a long day.
Shortly after his first class, he'd been bambarded by questions from other students.
Where did he laat go to school? Why he transferred? What clubs did he think of joining? Thing like that.
It was fine until apair of annoyances in the form of the two boys from before, Matsuda and Motohama.
They had come up to him and tried to convert him into some kind of pervert. They showed him dirty magazines and other things, while the girls just stared at them in disgust.
Eventually Issei got tired of their crap and told them to buzz off with his trademark deathglare. They'd actually gotten scared enough to run away.
That seemed to endear him to the rest of the class, them mostly being girls and all.
Unfortunately the action against the perverted duo had caused enough of a stirr to give him a certain nickname which then somehow spread among the whole student body.
The Terror of Death.
Issei snorted at the coincidence, then again he had told them his friends called him Haseo, which roughly translates to the same nickname. And with how he scared those pervs have to death it might not be such a coincidence.
Currently Issei had taken to spending his lunch on the roof away from the rest of the students. There were a few there with him but they seemed to know that he wasn't in the mood to deal with them.
Issei let out a sigh and decided to let his mind wander.
He thought about the friends he'd made during the last few years he'd played The World. Shino, Ovan, Tabby, Atoli, Alkaide, Pi, Endrance, Kuhn, Gaspard, Silabus , hell even Bordeaux. He could hardly believe it honestly, to think a loner like him could have so many friends. The World had changed his life, sure it had been a harsh beginning... but in the end it had turned out alright.
Most of his friends had moved on from the game, Silabus and Gaspard went to another school in Tokyo and Kyoto respectively. Ovan and his sister lived in Germany. Shino and he had said their goodbyes as well. Kuhn had moved on to another county.
Although he missed them. He knew that they were all living their best lives. He was still in contact with a few of them. He and Pi had been in constant contact during his first year due to the fact she was the one he was shadowing during his internship. Alkaid, Atoli, Bordeaux and Tabby were the few who he regularly talked to even now.
Alkaide Atoli and Bordeaux were constantly at each others throats. The reason? He had no clue, but Atoli and Tabby had become close, and were constantly talking about something whenever he was out of earshot.
Issei honestly had no idea what was up with those girls. It had been a thing since the Player marriage events in The World, he had practically been dragged to the Altar by each of the girls. Honestly he would never understand women.
Then again... he didn't fully under his feelings towards the four girls, he knew he felt some form of romantic feelings towards them. But hadn't acted in them because it simply wasn't fair to any of them, not after everything they'd been through together.
He was torn from his thoughts by a tugging at his school uniform.
"Hm?" He looked to his left to see a small girl with white hair and golden almost catlike eyes.
She stared at him with a type of look he was familiar with. He'd seen it before with Kusabira. This girl... was a Kuudere.
"Hello? Can I help you?" he asked her.
She shook her head before pointing at his uneaten Bento box.
Issei blinked and looked at his lunch.
"Do you... want some?" He asked her.
She nodded.
"Sure... I'm not really hungry anyways." He said before he handed her the box.
She took it and opened it. Issei swore she began to drool at the sight of the food before she began to dig in like a certain Saber servant.
Issei watched her chow down with amusement in his eyes.
"Careful now. You don't wanna-"
"Urk-!"
"... Choke. Alright come here..." Issei sighed as he positioned himself behind the poor girl and gave her the heimlich maneuver to dislodge the food that had gotten stuck in her throat.
A piece of chicken shot out from her mouth, before flying off the roof, where it landed on a certain pair of perverted teens.
Issei let the girl down to the roof floor, where she caught her breath.
"You alright?" he made sure to ask.
The girl nodded.
"That's good. Hey, I'm Issei, a second year. What's your name?" He asked her.
The girl blinked at him before speaking in a flat but still cute tone.
"Koneko Toujo, first year."
He blinked at the name. Her name literally meant Kitten, although he supposed it was fitting. Tabby would love this girl to death, he just knew it.
"So you're a first year... I guess that makes you my Kouhai." Issei said.
"Yes... Issei-senpai." Koneko said quietly.
"The quiet type I see... well I can respect that. I'll see you around Koneko." Issei said his hand patted her head as he passed her.
She seemed to stiffen at the contact before relaxing when he was gone.
"No doubt about it... Dragon... but the second one... smells like Kiba's but different?" Koneko muttered to herself.
She needed to inform Rias of her findings.
Issei stetched with a groan as he stared at the setting sun. School had ended a little bit ago and now Issei was just trying to relax.
This spot was a familiar one to him. A bridge that crossed the canals that split Kuoh between the residential and economic districts. The school was towards the western side of town not on the outskirts but it was a ways from the residential district.
He leaned forwards against the bridge railing and just basked in the sunset. It had been something that Atoli had taught him to appreciate, to just sit back and enjoy the scenery.
"Mreow?" a curious white kitten walked along the railing towards him and he reached out to pet the adorable creature. It purred qs his fingers scratched its ears and underneath its chin.
"Why hello there little one? What are you doing out here? Where's your mama?" He asked it.
"Mreow!" The kitten purred as he continued his petting.
Issei couldn't help but smile at it.
"U-um... excuse me..." A female voice startled him, and he looked to see an innocent looking girl with long dark hair, she was wearing the kuoh academy uniform. She was cute he would freely admit, but not really his type.
"Yes?" Issei asked her, idly noticing the sensation of the kitten's fur leaving his palm.
"U-um... you're Issei Hyoudou right?" She asked him.
"That's right. And you are?" Issei asked her.
"I'm Yuuma Amano. I'm in your class. I saw the way you took care of those two boys and I want to tell you that... you looked so cool!" She introduced with some stars in her eyes.
Issei hadn't been expecting that.
"O-oh?" He stuttered, "Thanks I guess. Honestly I was just annoyed they were bothering me with all that porn they shouldn't even have." he said with a slight twitch of his eye.
Yuuma giggled at his reaction to the boy's actions.
"Anyways enough about those idiots. Was there something else you needed?" Issei asked her to hopefully change the subject.
"Oh! W-well I know your new to Kuoh academy and wondered if maybe... you'd like to go out sometime?" She asked him shyly.
"You mean like... hang out around town?" Issei asked her.
She blinked having not expected him to not get what she meant by 'go out', but she could work with it.
"Yes of course. That's exactly what I meant." She said with a smile, that didn't quite reach her eyes.
"Uh... sure I guess? I'm free next Sunday if you want. That should give me some time to get settled in the school." Issei agreed.
Yuuma nodded.
"Alright! Then... why don't we go for Karaoke that day?" She asked him with excitement.
Issei blanched at the idea of him singing but nonetheless accepted.
"Atoli and the others must never find out about this..." Issei swore to himself.
At his acceptance Yuuma smiled wide.
"Great! I'll see you next Sunday!" Yuuma said before she trotted off, making sure to stop, turn and wave back to him, before trotting off once more.
Issei watched her go with some small amusement, before he returned his attention to the kitten, only to find nothing but an empty bridge.
"..." he stared at where it had once been. "Must've wandered off when I wasn't looking. I hope it'll be alright.." He muttered before he decided it was time to go home.
Rias sat with her peerage in their clubroom, Akeno was off to her right, while Koneko was sitting on a couch. Another member, a handsome blond young man named Kiba Yuuto was also there.
He had a complicated expression on his face after hearing what Koneko had just told them.
"Koneko... you're sure that the second gear is similar to Kiba's sword birth?" Akeno asked for her king.
Said kitten nodded as she munched on a piece of candy she pulled from... somewhere.
"It's not the same as mine but similar... correct?" Kiba asked troubled.
Koneko nodded again.
"...Blade Blacksmith... it has to be." Rias muttered.
Kiba nodded in agreement.
"I agree... there aren't many Creation type sacred gears that make weapons... if it's not Sword Birth then it's definitely Blade Blacksmith." He said.
Akeno just nodded.
"A dragon and a blade... what an interesting combination." Akeno mused.
They each hummed in response.
Suddenly Koneko stiffened and looked up.
"Shiro just told me that he was approached by a Fallen pretending to be a student." Koneko informed them of what her familiar had discovered.
"Tch Fallen? Here? In devil territory? What could they be planning?" Rias wondered.
"Perhaps they intend to recruit him to their side?" Akeno provided.
Koneko shook her head.
"Shiro felt bloodlust come from the fallen." She informed.
"Then... oh no... they intend to kill him before we can recruit him?!" Rias stood in horror at the revelation.
Kiba's grip tightened on the hilt of a longsword at his waist.
"Koneko. Are they together right now?" Rias asked.
Koneko shook her head.
"No. But they made plans for next Sunday to hangout. She asked him out but he is apparently the oblivious type." Koneko said.
Rias breathed a sigh of relief and sat back down.
"Kiba, Koneko Try to make friends with him if possible. We have to try and recruit him before they strike... but if necessary I will recruit him after... but only if all else fails." Rias ordered.
"Yes Buchou." Kiba said, he was little interested in his fellow sword based sacred gear owner.
"One more thing. Koneko, I want you to to have Shiro keep an eye on him whenever possible." she said.
"Understood." Koneko said in her usual cutely flat tone.
"Good. Akeno please inform Sona about the fallen sighting." Rias asked her queen.
"Of course." Akeno said before she left to do as asked.
Rias reclined back in her chair with a groan.
"So much has happened in the span of a day... is this what they mean by a Dragon's luck?" Rias couldn't help but wonder.
Kiba chuckled at her, and Koneko cracked a slight smile.
With that said the two left to begin preparations for their assigned tasks.
Issei sat at his computer typing to his friends. He'd told them about his transfer when he'd found out and they were sympathetic to his plight. Well at first then he told them Kuoh was originally an all girl's school recently turned co-ed. That made the girls nearly tear him a new one.
Now he was telling them about his first day... and as one might expect they weren't too happy with the attention he received from his female classmates, they did laugh at the fact he glared a pair of boys to nearly pissing themselves. He decided it might be a good idea not to tell them about Yuuma... for whatever reason.
A knock at his door distracted him from his computer.
"Come in." he said curtly.
"Issei dear? How was the first day?" His mother asked as she came in.
Issei stared at her, he was still pissed at her for transferring him here with no notice, it had been her idea to begin with.
"It was annoying." He said coldly.
His mother flinched at his tone before exiting the room.
With her gone he returned to his computer, idly glancing at the time. He'd have to eat something then go to bed soon. He had school the next day after all.
After spending a little more time chatting with his friends Issei ate and then turned in for the night.
Over the course of the next week Issei found himself hating Kouh academy more and more. The attention he kept receiving from the female populace annoyed him to no end. And the presence of the perverted duo really made things worse, especially when they tried, and failed, to start some disgusting rumors about his sexual preferences. He shut them up real quick with another of his signature glares.
Then there was Kiba Yuuto... he wasn't a bad guy, quite the opposite, in fact he reminded Issei of Silabus a great deal. No it was the rumors spread by the girls of yaoi fantasies between the Terror of Death and Kouh's Prince. The worst part? The guy didn't look phased by it at all.
Koneko had also hung around him quite often, he even packed a second lunch just for her most days. He'd found out from his class that Kiba and Koneko were in the same club. The Occult Research Club, ORC for short. Funny that a club about researching magic and monsters would use the word Orc as their acronym.
Yuuma was no where to be seen since they'd met on his first day. Which he found odd because she said she was in his class, yet he never saw her once.
He'd brought it up with Kiba and Koneko but they each gave him a serious look and told him to be careful.
Not that he really needed their advice. He wasn't a very trusting person. Getting PKed in the World on his first day had made him wary of random people who offered to help him or hang out with him. Hell when he first met Gaspard and Silabus he had been expecting them to PK him. It never happened of course, for that he was glad. If it hadn't been for those two he probably would've still been the same Terror of Death that killed 100 PKs in a single night.
He missed those two...
Issei shook his head to clear his thoughts of the past from his mind.
"Tch quit moping around Haseo. It's sunday try to have some fun." He muttered to himself.
"Excuse me sir?" A cute voice interrupted.
Issei looked up to see a cute girl in a devilish maid cosplay.
He rose a brow at her.
"Yes?" He asked.
"You look troubled so... here." She said before handing him some form of flyer.
"What's this? Your wish will come true?" Issei read the flyer while examining what seemed like a stereotypical Magic circle that was on it.
"... uh... thanks?" He said in a way that was more question and statement.
When he got no response he looked up to see that Maid had vanished.
He blinked at that. He hadn't seen her leave, was he really that bad at watching his surroundings? No... the dangers he'd faced in The World time and time again had left his sense sharper than normal. So how did that girl just disappear like that?
Before Issei could question it a familiar voice called to him.
"Issei! Hi!" Yuuma came running up.
"Oh hey Yuuma." Issei greeted.
"Sorry I'm late I had a few things to take care of." She apologized.
"Nah its fine. I haven't been here very long anyways." Issei said with a shrug.
"Great! Then... shall we go sing Karaoke?" Yuuma asked him.
"Yeah sure. Just don't be surprised if my voice isn't suited for singing." Issei laughed.
Yuuma giggled.
"Oh hush. I'm sure you'll do great!" She said before she took him by the arm and began to drag him to the Karaoke bar they'd met outside of.
"H-hey! No need to pull!" Issei tried in vain to say, but was only met by giggles from the smiling face of Yuuma Amano.
Karaoke had been fun for the most part. Yuuma, he could say had the voice of an Angel. And while he was nowhere near as good as her, he tried his best to sound at least halfway decent.
After leaving the Karoke bar a couple hours after entering, he and Yuuma went to get something to eat, and then found themselves walking through the local park. It was surprisingly empty, something he found a little odd but figured people had gone home because it's getting close to sundown.
"Today was really fun Issei." Yuuma said as they sat on a park bench near a fountain.
"Yeah it was. Thanks for inviting me. It's been a while since I could just hangout with a friend and have fun like this." Issei said to her.
Yuuma glanced at him out of the corner of her eyes. She saw that he was staring at the sunset with a relaxed smile on his face.
She couldn't help but to stare for several second. Before she steeled herself, this needed to be done, this was Lord Azazel's orders... it didn't matter how much of a nice guy Issei was, or how funny he was... or how kind he treated her... or- Oh God...
"Did I... fall for him? In the short time I've known him?! Nononono... I-I CANT DO THIS!!" Yuuma Amano or rather Raynare thought in horror as she realized she could complete her mission and kill Issei Hyoudou.
But it looked like she wouldn't have to, Raynare sense the presence of one of her fellow fallen and wanted to warn Issei but it was too late.
For Issei it felt like time had stopped for a second as a familiar chime played in his ears, which caused his eyes to widen slightly.
He instinctively looked up to his left and saw something that made no sense to him.
A tall man in a fedora and overcoat floated in the sky above them. No not floated... he flew on a pair of jet black feathered wings.
"What the hell?!" Issei exclaimed, the chime in his ears got louder before-
"Move!"
Issei instinctively leapt off the bench he'd been sitting on, making sure to grab Yuuma and take her with him. He looked back at where they'd previously been fighting and was glad that he had moved when he did.
An object in the shape of a crude spear made of what seemed like solidified light was buried in the wood of the bench, which smoked from the heat of the light construct.
"Holy shit..." He muttered.
"Hoh? You managed to dodge that? Impressive I must say. However you made one mistake..." the winged trenchcoat guy said.
"Mistake? Wha-?!" his thoughts were silenced by a blinding pain in his stomach.
He coughed up blood and shakily looked down to see a blade of pink light portruding from his gut, originating from behind him... where Yuuma was.
The light blade vanished and Issei found himself falling face down, which made him gush blood as he hit the ground.
He coughed again and forced his head to lift off the ground, just in time to see Yuuma step past him. She looked... different, older, more mature... in a way that wasn't entirely displeasing to his taste... if he wasn't bleeding out he might have complemented the look.
"Y-uum-a...?" he managed to croak out.
The girl stopped, but didn't turn to look at him. Something dropped onto the ground in front of him, but his vision was too blurred to make out what it was.
"For the recond... I had a really great time... I honestly wish that this could have been avoided. But... if you have to blame someone ... blame God for blessing you with not one but two of those things..." She said before she too sprouted black wings and took to the air, eventually disappearing.
"Yuuma... why? Ah I see... this was a trap? Like a PKer back in The World... but this time... I'm really going to die? After everything I've been through? Everyone... I'm sorry..." Issei's mind raced as he thought about everything he'd done. Memories of his loved ones flashed through his mind, before everything went dark.
Trenchcoat guy landed and decided to simple walk leaving Issei to bleed out.
Or so he thought.
Trenchcoat paused as he felt a chill roll through the air, emanating from... behind him.
"Impossible..." the man muttered as he turned to look at the boy he just "killed". Only to see him standing against all odds, his arms limp in front of him as his face was parallel with the ground.
"How are you still alive?" Trenchcoat asked puzzled.
Dark Space/Mindscape:
It was dark... so dark. Issei had never experienced something so dark in his life... no that's not true, Haseo did... everytime he'd summoned Skeith, he ended up in a dark space like this.
"Where...? Am I?" He asked as he looked around.
"Well well... it seems my newest host is an interesting one. For you to be strong enough to be able to come here without 'It' being active... unexpected. But a welcome surprise." A deep voice resounded from all corners of the darkness around Issei.
"What? Host? Who are you!? What the hell is going on!?" Issei demanded to know.
From the darkness a single massive green reptilian eye opened and stared at him.
"Hoh... it seems your mental manifestations reflects the you from that World. Nevertheless now is too early for you to know my name. Nor do we have time to explain it all. You are dying boy. And unless a miracle happens you will bleed out." The being mused.
"Right... I'm.. dying... dammit! I can't die here! I refuse to die!" Issei grit his teeth as he glared at the green eye.
"Hoh...? I like that look in your eyes boy. Very well. I will temporarily aid you until you unlock my powers on your own." the being said, before a green energy shot out and enveloped Issei.
Issei suddenly felt a rush he hadn't felt since The World. Power. Raw power in its purest form.
Issei clenched his fist tight, noticing that he was in a strikingly familiar tailed trenchcoat.
"I'm... right here..." Issei muttered.
The being just watched on at the display, before it gaze drifted to Issei's left.
Issei noticed the movement and turned to see what it was looking at.
"What the... That's?!" Issei breathed out in shock as he took in what he saw.
Before them was a familiar weapon, a long segmented crimson sword, each segment connected to a dark jagged hilt with a forked style crossguard by a golden chain.
"The Eight Phase Blade... but how?" Issei asked the being.
"Hmph... it seemed that your time in that World made some changes or rather additions to the second Sacred Gear you had in your possession." The being said with a narrowed gaze at the weapon.
"Sacred... Gear?" He asked again.
"Weapons... or even special powers created by the Christian God to aid Humans in their struggle with supernatural entities. I am a being that was sealed within one such Gear." the being explained.
Issei looked at the eye then back to the sword, which he noticed was glowing with a mixture of gold and silver light.
"Take it." the being instructed as it closed its eye. "You're going to need it. Before I leave... what do you wish for?"
With that asked, Issei could no longer feel the being's presence. So with no other options, he took up the Ultimate Steel once more.
"I wish... for Power!" Issei's voice resonated through the park as the being's powers exploded outwards.
Trenchcoat guy stepped back a few steps when Issei's body was engulfed in a green mana.
"What?! This mana!? It's... the red dragon!?" Trenchcoat guy exclaimed in shock as the power rippled through the area. That shock soon turned to wonder when eight crimson segments of... something materialized in a circle around around the teen.
For a second he thought he saw each segment become a weapon in one shape or another. But when he blinked he saw only the segments.
His eyes returned to the teen who's body had straightened, and from the hole in the boy's chest, sprouted a long golden chain. The chain shot out at each crimson segment and threaded itself through it, before attaching itself to an object that had appeared in the air. The trenchcoat man recognized the object as a sword hilt.
The chain seemed to pull the crimson pieces towards the hilt before combining them into a single weapon, a sword, which then landed perfectly in the teen's right hand. The weapon was longer and wider than any Longsword, but clearly didn't have the weight of a greatsword, judging by how easily the human lifted it in one hand.
Once the sword had been formed the green energy settled around the hole in Issei's torso.
"What is this?! Did you just... unlock your sacred gear? On your deathbed?! Hahaha! Fool once that little power up ends you'll die regardless!" Trenchcoat laughed at the stupidity of it all.
"..." Issei didn't say a word, he didn't have to. A flick of his wrist send the Eight phase blades arcing at Trenchcoat like a whip.
The fallen barely managed to dodge, but not without losing an arm.
"Grah?! Dammit! You little punk! I'll teach you to mess with-" He was forced to dodge again, but this time it wasn't because of a whip. No the whip sword had shifted become a golden scythe, and the man who held it didn't intend to allow the fallen to run his mouth.
That man wasn't Issei Hyoudou anymore. No the one who stood before the fallen was Haseo, The Terror of Death.
"What the!?" The Fallen exclaimed as right before his eyes the Scythe shifted into a pair of red and blue longbladed curved swords.
The next attack was to fast for the fallen to react. Haseo flew at the fallen and unleashed a flurry of slashes followed by a single slamming attack of both blades that forced Trenchcoat guy to slam into the concrete hard enough to make him bounce! But Haseo wasn't finished, as he slashed furiously again before finishing the combo with a cross slash of both blades.
"Guh?!" The fallen was launched backwards into a tree from the attack, where he lay, to stunned to get up.
Haseo's red and blue blades vanished and returned to being a Crimson Whip-sword as the power up given by the being faded from his body and he collapsed back to the ground. The Eight Phase Blade aka the Ultimate Steel vanished into motes of gold and silver light.
"Shit... so much for that wish... I wanted to live... I never got... to... tell them... how... I... felt..." Issei's last thoughts were of Atoli, Alkaid, Bordeaux, even Pi.
Unbeknownst to him, as his life faded a certain flyer glowed with a bright crimson light.
Minutes earlier
Rias sat in her chair, a knee bounced as she worried over whether or not Issei would summon her. Her Peerage was also in the room with her. They'd been using a spell to watch everything through the eyes of Koneko's kitten familiar Shiro. They had to hold back Rias back immediately teleporting to save Issei when they saw the fallen girl stab him with a light spear and then leave.
That's when things took a turn, for better or for worse... none of them knew. All they truely understood was what they say.
Issei standing up... then when they heard him speak his wish they all felt a chill. Then that green mana, the male fallen's words about the red dragon, then that crimson whip-sword (that nearly gave Kiba a heart attack, because he was amazed he never thought to make such a sword), then when they saw it transform into a Scythe and then twin swords they couldn't help but be in awe at the skill at which he used them.
It was as if he'd spent years fighting with such weapons.
The way his blows made the fallen look like he was nothing but a ragdoll to an angry dragon, made Rias certain that he was who she needed to finally be free of her cursed arranged marriage.
And then they saw him collapse, and Rias knew it was time.
She stood quickly and used her clubrooms teleportation circle to connect with the flyer that had been given to Issei earlier that day.
"You all stay here, I'll go take care of Issei... And Kiba... tomorrow after class bring him here." she said as she brought a box of chess pieces with her through the gate her spell had created.
With that... she was gone.
The next morning found Issei waking with a start, clutching his chest and panting.
He hastily looked at his surroundings to see he was home, in his bed.
"Phew... what a strange dream." He breathed as he laid back down.
"It wasn't a Dream." the voice of a certain being resonated from within his skull.
"Gah?!" Issei was so shocked that he rolled off his bed and hit the floor with a resounding (*thud*)
"Ow..." Issei groaned as he rubbed the back of his head, which had made contact with the floor when he fell.
"What the hell... am I hearing voices?" Issei muttered as he picked himself up, only to notice he was naked.
"Odd... I never sleep naked, must have been extra tired... that's probably why I had that strange dream.." He stated with some confusion.
"I told you. It wasn't a dream." The voice reiterated with a sigh.
"Urk-!" Issei let out a strangled gasp as the vouce repeated itself.
"Who?!" he muttered then he remembered where he'd heard that voice.
"Remember now? If not.. check the bed." the voice asked slightly annoyed at his dense host.
"I remember... Yuuma, the winged trenchcoat guy, the Eight phase blade... I-... I died... didn't I?" he asked.
"Indeed you did. But you were revived by the person in your bed, seriously I'd look if I were you." the being said as he urged Issei to look under the covers of the bed.
Issei paused and glanced at the bed, there was clearly the shape of a human figure underneath the blankets... and judging by his own state of undress... the person was likely the same.
"Yeah, no... Alkaid would kill me... If Atoli and Bordeaux didn't do me in first." Issei refused.
"Tch."
"Did you just... click your tongue at me? What are you an angsty teenager!?" Issei asked the voice incredulously.
"By the way... you don't have to speak out loud for me to hear you. Our minds are connected. Just think what you want to say to me and I'll hear it." The being told him.
Issei paused at that and nearly face palmed.
"Of course we're following anime logic... what's next? A guy who can create swords?" he muttered.
"That was a rather ironic statement partner... because that sword you used last night was a product of a power you just stated..." The being teased.
Issei deadpanned at the voice, not entirely sure if it could see his face but didn't really care.
"Oh... joy... I'm now a Shirou Emiya copycat..." Issei thought to the being.
"Hmm... I'm not entirely familiar with that one. We'll have to watch that one for me to understand." The being said, showing an interest in Anime.
Issei blinked at that.
"The being sealed within my body likes Anime... god-ow! What the hell?!" Issei exclaimed as he was interrupted by a splitting headache.
"Ah right... just a forewarning... don't say the name God (Issei: Ow!) Sorry." the being apologized.
"... are you gonna give me a name to call you or am I gonna have to keep mentally referring to you as 'The being'...?" Issei asked.
"... fine I'll give you my name... It's Ddraig. I am the Red Dragon Emperor, not that the title has any significance to you at this time." The newly reintroduced Ddraig said.
"I have a dragon sealed in my body... when did my life become a chuunibyo's fanfiction?" Issei thought with a sigh.
Ddraig chuckled at his thoughts, but before he could answer the person on the bed shifted.
"Mmn~!" a rather sultry feminine voice moaned lightly as the owner sat up, which dislodged the blanket from her body leaving Issei with a rather heavenly sight.
Red hair so dark that each thread looked almost like blood. Pale skin and a voluptuous figure that Issei knew that if he didn't look away soon he might die from bloodloss.
"Hmmm... not bad." Ddraig said with a tone that Issei knew was him grinning.
"Quiet you lecherous lizard." Issei deadpanned at the dragon.
"L-lizard!?" Ddraig sulked at being called a lizard.
Issei rolled his eyes at his newfound companion and turned to stare at the girl, who was looking at him with an expectant smirk.
"Alright... two things to start off with. Who are you? And why are you naked in my bed?" Issei asked while pointedly ignoring his hormones and keeping his eyes on her face instead of her body.
She seemed to actually pout at his lack of staring, before she opened her mouth to answer.
My name is Rias Gremory. I am what you would call... a Devil." Rias said.
Issei rose a brow.
"A Devil? Like Satan and shit like that?" he asked her.
"Correct." She said with a smile.
"Ok... and I'm guessing you did something to be able to revive me from the dead? So what... am I like your servant or something?" Issei asked rhetorically.
"Also correct, you're taking this rather well." She said with a raised brow of her own.
Issei scratched his cheek at that.
"Honestly... this really isn't the weirdest thing to happen to me. That honor goes to having my consciousness forcibly transported into an online game." Issei said honestly.
Rias blinked at that. She had to admit... it was pretty unusual, even by devil standards.
"I see... while I wouldn't mind hearing more about that... and about you. If we don't leave soon we're going to be late for school." Rias said with a smile.
Issei looked at his clock and blanched.
"Oh shit!" Issei practically flew to his dresser and changed into his school uniform, then he paused and realized... Rias' uniform was nowhere in sight.
"He turned and nearly had his eyes bug out of his head when he saw that she was already changed and watching him with a smirk.
"How did you... You know what, we'll talk about this later. We gotta move now, before my mom finds us." Issei said before he grabbed her hand and opened the window.
"Oh? Not through the door? Oh!? My my, so forward!" Rias asked, just as Issei picked her up, bridal style and stepped out of the window. Luckily his room was on the side of the house with a flat roof.
Rias couldn't help but feel excited as Issei ran at full speed and leapt from the roof and landed on the grass below.
"Woah... that hurt a lot less than it usually does when I'm late..." Issei muttered.
"Of course it did. You're my servant after all." Rias said proudly.
Issei deadpanned at her.
"Yeah ok, you're gonna gave to explain more on that when we're not about to be hunted down." he said.
Rias looked confused on what he meant by that.
"Hunted down?" Rias asked confused.
Issei was about to explain when his instincts warned him to move, doing so Issei barely managed to dodge the flying shoe that his mother had thrown out of his open window.
"ISSEI HYOUDOU WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU ABOUT LEAVING THE HOUSE THROUGH YOUR WINDOW!? IS THAT A GIRL?! DID YOU SNEAK A GIRL INTO MY HOUSE?!" Issei's mom shouted at him.
Issei stuck a tongue out at his mother and proceeded to dodge another shoe, then another, and then another.
Soon enough more shoes were flying at them with enough numbers that Rias had begun to wonder if Issei's mom had a Reality Marble called Unlimited Boot Works!
Issei took off down the road, dodging shoe after shoe as they went.
"Almost out of her range! Gotta pick up the pace! Dammit where does she even get this many shoes?! Her closet is tiny!" Issei exclaimed.
Rias was giggling madly at how her morning had been, this had been the most fun she'd had in a while. So as a reward she decided to give him some advice.
"I suppose now's a good enough time as any. Say the words, Promotion: Knight." Rias told him as they continued to dodge shoes.
"What? Why do I need to say Promotion: Knight?" he asked.
Rias gave him a cocky smirk and spoke one word.
"Granted."
Suddenly Issei felt like everything had slowed down, no more like he'd sped up. He was now running at a speed beyond normal human capacity, he'd long since past the limits of his mother's attack range, and was now gaining on the area of where he knew the school was.
"Stop in that alley over there." Rias pointed to a nearby gap between two buildings. Issei didn't need to be told twice, and entered the gap before skidding to a stop.
"Wha..what was that?!" Issei panted with a grin as he placed her down.
"I'll explain everything later Issei, for now just go about your day normally. I'll send someone to collect you after class." Rias said as she smiled at how excited he seemed about everything so far.
"Alright. I'll hold you to it." Issei said with a grin.
With that said and done the two exited the alleyway and made their way to the front gate. Unfortunately for Issei the sight of him and Rias caused quite a stir, mostly amongst the IsseiXKiba shippers.
"What the... why is the Terror of Death walking with Rias-Sempai?!" The majority of the Male student population glared at him with so much hate that Issei honestly felt a bit proud of them.
Their glares were a good imitation of his own, but... Issei needed to teach them just who they're messing with.
All it took was one look, and the entire male populus flinched at how utterly demonic he looked. Many would later swear they saw the Shinigami appeared behind him.
"Wow!" Rias complemented, "If looks could kill I'm sure they'd be dead."
Issei gave a smirk.
"Serves 'em right for trying to imitate me." Issei thought.
"Hmph... We'll make a dragon out of you yet." Ddraig said.
Issei ignored the dragon in his head and turned to Rias.
"Alright I'll be leaving then. And next time... try staying away from places like that. Don't you know that local gangs like to hang around there?" Issei said with a wink and a smirk.
Rias' eyes widen in surprise at his ploy, before she smirked.
"What a cheeky servant you are. Fine I'll play along this time." she said for only him to hear.
"I didn't realize! Thank you for protecting me from those delinquents." Rias said with a batting of her eyelashes.
Issei rolled his eyes at her over the top acting.
And just like that, the growing rumors of Issei and Rias dating were shut down just like that.
"In fact as a thank you. I'd like you to join my club." Rias said with a wink.
Issei caught on immediately.
"Sure. Not like I have anything better to do." he said.
Whispers of him being invited to Rias' club, which was notorious for being Invite Only, had begun to spread.
"Good. That gives me an Alibi for why I'm suddenly in Rias' club." Issei thought.
"Alright then I'll send one of my members to get you later. See you later I-ss-ei." she said sounding out his name slowly before turning to walk away.
As he watched her leave, Issei had a feeling things were going to get immensely complicated from here on. But oh well, nothing the Terror of Death can't handle, right?
A/N: so what'dya think? I know, I know I kinda rushed it, but hey this is only the first chapter. And like... none of the good stuff really happened on the first episode of the anime either so... yeah. Now before I leave and work on some of my other stories let me just say this... Issei will not be paired with anyone from DxD... except maybe Asia, mostly cause she's kinda like Atoli and Issei/Haseo would get along with her. Now I like the DxD girls as much as the next guy but this version of Issei already has feelings for the girls of .Hack/GU. He's in the struggle of choosing who to be with but that struggle will soon be nonexistent as (insert fanfare here) devils practice polygamy!
Now with that I must bid you Adieu. (*insert corny ass bow here*)
