Chapter One: The Bank Robbery
It was an ordinary day in Academy City. The wide, blue sky displayed its daily, majestic beauty over the city as the clouds swiftly drifted across the bluish expanse high above the setting below. A blimp was hovering across this technological advanced city that has yet to reach the peak of mankind, making the daily announcement.
As usual, the population of this city, which resided at the west side near Tokyo, were very busy today. Some went to their respective schools or academies to study and learn, and some did their daily work routines in their respective workplaces.
A bank stood to where it was built in one of the streets of the city that were currently not crowded for now. A couple of cars passed by each other on opposite directions, traveling their way to their respective destinations, before three pedestrians passed by, as they were minding their own businesses. One was texting. Another one was looking at the buildings' architecture out of fascination. And the last one was talking her friend on the phone.
Unknown to those people, inside the bank, there was complete silence, as it had its windows and doors locked and sealed without anyone outside noticing it, while its people and employees, who were all occupying inside, were being tied up against their wills, as they were also being held as hostages.
There was a bank robbery taking place.
The lights were turned off, but only the minimal, back-up lights were left completely on just to avoid getting too much attention from the outdoors.
Some civilians, who were there to create back accounts, to deposit their savings or to get some loans, were tied up near the walls and have their mouths gagged with a strong tape to prevent them all from screaming and panicking, which would get the lawmen's attention, especially Judgment's.
One civilian was an elderly lady, who wanted to see her granddaughter again, after years of separation. She planned to provide her financial support for her college years, but she was worried that she wouldn't get that chance nor would she ever get to see her beloved granddaughter again, after a few years of desperate waiting and effort.
Another civilian was a mother with her only daughter. They planned to go on a fun day activity together, after visiting the bank, but their hearts were filled with fear as they acknowledged that they would have their lives end sooner on this day.
The employees of the bank were being tied up next to their respective desk areas and workplaces with their mouths taped as well. They were given warnings by the robbers not to make clever moves or they would shoot them all to death, mercilessly without hesitation or second thought.
The leader of the bank robbers was waiting for his loyal, employed hacker to finish hacking the security system of the vault door to get it opened because on the other side of this sealed, metallic wall with a doorway behind it, there was pure gold that could last them for a year of spending and getting whatever the hell they wanted.
A rich life on the wrong side of the tracks in one summary.
"How's it going? Are you almost done yet?" The leader asked quietly.
"Almost there, boss. I just need to input the password. And here… we…," the hacker replied as he inputted the keywords '5-2-8-4-9-1' by pressing the buttons on his portable laptop, which was interlinked to the security program of the bank, which controlled the security systems of the building. From security alarms, surveillances and, mostly, the vault's door of the bank, which kept its deposits and savings for the customers.
The titanium, vault door gave out a low, beep tone thrice, before the sound of metallic screws was then heard to be unlocking themselves, right before the door opened itself and slowly turned to the right, before making a complete halt as the view of millions of yen inside of it satisfied and excited the robbers like a Leprechaun seeing its pot of gold, waiting for him to snatch it for himself.
"Go!" the hacker quietly yelled in amusement.
The leader and his partner in crime entered the vault with a pair of big, double bags, while having their assault rifles still at their respective hands. Two of the big bags were slung across their respective shoulders and were resting on their backs, while the last two were being carried by their left hands as they snatched and swiped some yen into the bags that have enough spaces to fill.
Two more, armed robbers stood guard near the hostages, in case any of them do something clever that would jeopardize their whole operation of becoming filthy rich.
One was carrying an AK-47, as he quietly walked across some hostages on the left side to inspect, while the other one was carrying a M16 assault rifle, as he was guarding the hostages on the right side of the bank's walls, staring at them with a devious look on his face with a clear warning in his narrowed, creepy eyes. Both seemed to be physically fit due to their muscular appearances in plain view.
Perhaps, they have their respective preferences and favoritisms when it came to their choices of ammunition weapons. The other 3 carried assault rifles with effective, long range shots, too. All of them bought their guns through illegal, arms deals from the dark side of Academy City.
All 5 were also wearing motorbike viziers to keep their identities a secret to avoid getting identified or tracked down and that they used to be a part of a Skill-Out Group that ultimately had its downfall, due to mutiny and sovereignty among its men.
As the masterminds of the robbery were filling their big bags with thousands of yen, the leader immediately turned back to the employed hacker and yelled quietly, "'Hey! Prepare our getaway rides!"
"You go it, boss," the hacker assured the man, whom he was working for.
The hacker grabbed his portable laptop and shoved it inside his black, bag pack, before hurriedly exiting the place through the back exit of the bank and running to their decoyed truck, which was parked on the other side of the street not far from where he was, and on the back of that vehicle were some motorbikes to make their getaway. They planned to leave the truck behind as a diversion, before they escape on speeding bikes because that's their new way of escaping nowadays.
"How are you doing there?" the leader asked his partner, who was also his best friend. Both were pure scums ever since they became Skill-Outs of this city.
"We're gonna be rich, man! Filthy rich! Yeah! Damn the law and this city!" his best friend yelled out in excitement and satisfaction.
"You got that right, brother! Yeah!" the leader agreed in excitement, too.
When they managed to steal at least 7.5 million yen and have it in their filthy wallets, the leader and his best friend then exited the vault hurriedly, before the leader spoke to the other two robbers, "Hey! We got our jackpot! Let's get the hell out of here now before the law shows up!"
The two guards abandoned their guarding posts and quickly went out the back door, after being handed with the other two bags with the stolen money respectively with the leader's partner in crime joining them afterwards. Before he exited, the leader slowly looked back at the hostages, who were all still tied up and were now facing him.
He then said to all of them as they had fearful expressions on their faces, "Thank you all for your cooperation for our service. Have a good day. However, if any of you dare try to speak out about this robbery to anyone, we will find you all…''
The leader halted for a second, before he continued with a menacing tone in his voice and a rage-filled expression on his eyes that can be vividly seen through his vizier, ''…and we will kill you!"
The hostages' expressions let out an extremely, distraught look in their eyes as some let out some sweat on their foreheads because of the fear and tension that they were all feeling right now, before the leader slammed the door shut behind him.
Thankfully, the hostages survived and no life was taken away today, Although, I don't think their lives would ever be the same way again because of this near death experience that traumatized them.
As the 4 bank robbers hurriedly ran down the alleyway and towards their getaway vehicles with okane in their wallets, they noticed their hacker was in trouble as a Judgment Officer was arguing with him about an illegal parked vehicle in the street that they were currently in. The 4 noticed that their employee was arguing at the Judgment Officer to buy them some time to take the officer out of the scene from behind, as the officer was being distracted by his nonsensical gibberish.
Very clever they all thought.
"You can't park here, sir. It's illegal. Now, get that truck out right now!" the Judgment Officer asked, demandingly as after one minute of asking politely to the moron, he had reached his limit to the point where he was forced to act demandingly to the idiot to get the job done for the community.
"Listen. I don't think you understand anything about this city or its people," the hacker said with no sense or connection to the topic or situation at hand.
"What are you talki-?" the Judgment Officer asked, but before he could finish his words, someone pulled him down onto the sidewalk aggressively. It's the leader of the bank robbers, looking down on him menacingly with a vizier on his head, while his partner in crime pointed a 9mm pistol directly at his face, threatening the young man's life.
The leader slightly leaned over to the Judgment Officer to intensify the fearful situation on that morally, decent person before he spoke out in a demanding tone in his threatening voice.
"You have a million things that you are obliged to forget. Add this in your own list or else you'll get shot, kid. And that's going to be tomorrow's headline," the leader of the bank robber demanded as a serious warning to that young officer of the law.
The Judgment Officer became stunned and fearful for his dear life that he helplessly sat on the sidewalk, frozen in fear and anxiety that he couldn't say a word for a minute.
The leader then gestured his boys to enter the side door way of the truck, which was attached on the large space at the back of the vehicle. When they closed the door, the Judgment Officer was still frozen on the ground until he heard some loud, rumbling noises coming from inside the back cargo of the truck.
He quickly got onto his feet and saw the back door of the truck automatically laying itself downwards right before the 5 bank robbers appeared with their loot at their greedy hands on 5 sport motorbikes for their getaway.
"Like I said, kid. You have a million things that you are obliged to forget," the leader mocked at the young officer before he pulled hard on the throttle and accelerated out of the back of the truck at great speed like a projectile being launched out from a canon that it caused the officer to jump out of the way quickly to avoid getting brutally run over by the greedy scum on his bike.
Thankfully, the Judgment Officer was okay as the rest of the robbers shoot themselves out of the truck and rode off into the streets with big bags of okane.
The Officer then ran off a few yards from the truck and attempted to contact for back-up because of the suspicion that those guys were up to something really bad or sinister that could put innocent lives in danger or harm.
However, little did he know that as the robbers were speeding away, the leader reached out into his right jacket pocket and pulled out a hand-sized detonator. He flipped the switch on the upper right side of the device to activate the detonator, which was indicated via the small, green light bulb on the top left side corner of the device. It then enabled itself to be connected to the remote bombs of that truck through a signal route, which were hidden underneath it near the gasoline tank of the vehicle, which then go on to activate the bombs, arming them all. He was about to slowly pressed the red button on the middle of the detonator.
Back at the Judgment Officer, he was able to reach Konori Mii at Judgment Office Branch 177 headquarters via his cellphone, as he waited patiently for her to answer his urgent call, while his phone was beeping for his boss to answer, but he was hoping that it wouldn't take too long.
At Judgment's Office, Mii was drinking her cart of milk as usual and was alone in the office, while the other members were doing their daily responsibilities for the people of Academy City, until she heard her cellphone on her desk ringing. While carrying her cart of milk on her right hand, she went over to her workplace, picked up her phone, and answered the call.
"Hello?" Mii answered.
"Mii-san?" the officer asked.
"Yeah. What is it, Kouta-kun?" Mii asked, after she mentioned the officer's first name.
"Mii-san, I have 5 suspicious gunmen on bikes speeding awa-", Kouta mentioned in the call.
Unfortunately, before he could finish what he was saying, the phone conversation was interrupted when the truck a few yards behind him exploded into thin air, creating a thundering and rumbling explosion and a severe, haunting scene within the smoke and fire.
"Kouta-kun?" Mii asked, after she heard a huge blast during the phone conversation, right before she immediately realized to her horror that it was an explosion, which frantically made her dropped her cart of milk onto the floor below, leaving a white stain with the cart on top of it.
"Kouta-kun?!" she screamed hysterically as she tried to call out Kouta, hoping that the young officer, who had been serving for Judgment for 4 months now, was okay and was still alive after that severe explosion.
In the midst of the clouded smoke, intense fire, and property damages, the young officer was laying on the ground, unconscious. He has a streak of blood gushing out on the left side of his head and was covered in severe injuries, but not too serious since he wasn't close enough in the explosion to suffer far worse wounds and severe burns. But thankfully, the young officer was still alive but needed medical assistance immediately.
Fortunately, no one was killed when the bombs went on, and they were very lucky, indeed. Although, only 7 were severely injured near the blast and were in need of medical help. The explosion also damaged three parked cars, completely wrecked a near-by store where the truck was parked, and damaged some doors and windows of near-by buildings by debris, as well as 3, near-by lamp posts and 4 janitor bots.
An unsettling scene, indeed.
Back at the runaway robbers, they were speeding their way through the streets of the city on their fast motorbikes. They planned out their exit routes to take as their way out from the lawmen. As they were speeding away, the leader then spoke to his men.
"There's the construction tunnel. It will take us to the sewers. Just as planned," he said with a pleasing expression on his face.
The robbers then took a sharp, quick turn to the left and into the tunnel that was being constructed, which was located in a street near downtown a few blocks away from the bank that they escaped from and left a scene.
All 5 made a sharp turn into the tunnel, as some cars noticed them, while others had to hit their breaks and make quick turns to avoid collisions with the speeding motorcyclists that entered their escape route.
The robbers entered the tunnel where a few of the construction workers and engineers were doing their daily job, as they noticed the speeding bikers with bags and guns on them, confused but concern at the sight for a moment. The robbers rode through like speeding cheetahs, carrying their prize possessions, as they jumped off some obstacles that they rode on and evaded some machineries, concrete walls, blockages, and other materials that were used to construct the underground tunnel, which was planned to be a new tunnel to avoid traffic problems in the street of this city.
They then headed to their next route, which was a tunnel system that would take them to the sewers, before they reach the outdoor canals as their last route to escape, which would then lead them to their rendezvous point where their secondary escape vehicle was parked for them to finally escape the law men, who were searching for them. Their final getaway vehicle was parked in an alley near their favorite restaurant, although nobody there knew them as scumbags but troublemakers only ever since.
Now, I hope that they would eventually have their identities exposed to those customers in that restaurant and the customers and the owner of that restaurant would ban them all for life.
"There's the next tunnel for our escape route! Let's go!" The leader yelled, as all five entered it. The tunnel was like a long, cylinder tube. So, they had time to ride through its sides at the upper or lower positions or even on the left and right sides, while maintaining balance in weight and speed to avoid losing balance and crashing.
They then exited the long-length tube, as they headed to the sewers, which was connected to an intersection between that place and the construction site of the new tunnel system. They all quickly rode into it, evading near-by spectators, who spotted them on a very fast haste.
The sewers weren't a long trip for too long, as they exited out of it and jumped out onto the outdoor canals.
When they reached daylight, all were very satisfied, as they expressed their mockeries on the authorities for failing to catch them with their precious loot on their greedy hands.
"Oh man! I can't wait to see the look on their faces on the news tomorrow!" The guy with the Ak-47 exclaimed with so much satisfaction on his face.
"Yeah! Me too! Hahaha!" His fellow robber with the M16 rifle agreed.
"Hey! You still have all of our deposit in your laptop back at HQ?" The leader asked the hacker.
"Yep," the hacker replied, assuring his boss.
"Alright, boys! It won't be long now until we're home free! Let's spend some money on some saki, fancy, luxurious hotels for first-class boys, and some ladies!" The leader exclaimed with so much thrill within him.
"I don't think those 'ladies' are going to be very satisfied with any of you," an anonymous voice was suddenly heard by the 5.
All of them noticed it, before they started looking around the canal, as they were riding off to find the source of that voice. To his enormous shock, the one with the M16 Rifle pointed at the back seat of his fellow robber, who was the one carrying the AK-47, with his pointy finger, as he was riding on the left side of his friend.
"Hey! Look behind you!" The robber yelled in shock.
At the back seat of that guy's motorbike was Kuroko Shirai, a Judgment Officer, who was standing on the back seat with one hand resting on her hips, while the other was gripping the back of the robber's black jacket firmly as her twin tails and hair were flickering to the breeze of the wind towards the rear direction, while she stood on the speeding motorbike, maintaining her balance with a confident look and gesture. She was smiling at the robbers as if she was looking down on all of them with satisfaction, as the 5 were feeling like they were being insulted by her, a Tokiwadai Schoolgirl. However, they had no idea who she really is or what she is capable of.
"Get her off of me, man!" The robber yelled out to the others to help him.
"Guys like you have been annoying the people of this city for years now. It's my duty to look down on all of you and put you all into custody. You greedy morons," Shirai mocked all five like she found all 5 as not scary at all but annoying.
"Missy, you have no idea who you are talking to," the leader's partner warned her, but she didn't have none of it.
"Nope. Looks like you have no idea who you are all talking to," Shirai made a quick comeback at the bastard.
"This girl is irritating me," the partner of the leader angrily said, before he told the friend of that robber, "Shoot that pigtail!"
The guy pulled out his M16 Rifle and was about to shoot Shirai to help his best friend. "You guys never learned, do you?" Shirai said, in all honesty.
The guy let out a cynical smirk, after he aimed the rifle at the teen girl's head, right before he pulled the trigger.
Unfortunately for them, this female officer of Judgment suddenly vanished into thin air within a split second, surprising all 5.
"Where did she go?!" The leader quickly exclaimed.
"Look above you all!" The hacker yelled as he gestured his head upward, before the rest looked up and saw Shirai gliding through the air from above with some big, metallic pins at hand between each of her fingers.
"Looks like it's time for me to teach you boys a little lesson about humility!" Shirai satisfyingly yelled out.
She then threw all 6 pins from her hands sharply on the front and back tires of the motorbike of the robber with the AK-47, causing the robber to lose control and had him fall out of his motorbike, before it got crashed onto the left side wall of the canal, right before he got the sides of his jacket, pants, and sleeves pinned down onto the cemented ground by 17, sharp, metallic pins, which were hard to remove.
While one, small pin that was distinguishable from the rest was pinned on the back seat of the leader's motorbike without anyone noticing it, before it started to blink a reddish light on it like a beacon.
"Now, you just lay there like a good, little boy. 4 officers of Judgment are on their way in less than 2 minutes as we speak," Shirai mocked the robber, right before she pinned his rifle with 8 metallic needles, rendering it to be ineffective and useless.
"See you in a jail cell, greedy moron!" Shirai then chuckled, before she skipped and vanished into thin air.
The robber tried to struggle to break free, but the 4 officers arrived on time and had his hands cuffed behind his back.
Back at the other 4, the robber's friend was in complete disbelief as all 4 continued to ride their bikes as far as possible to get to their getaway vehicle, before it's too late.
"I don't believe it!" the robber carrying the M16 rifle yelled out.
"We gotta go back to get him!" he insisted to all 3.
"No. It's too late for him," the leader said.
"WHAT?!" the robber shouted in shock. However, before he could say anything else, the back tire of his motorbike got hit by 4 pins, causing it to go out of control and causing the robber to fall and tumble onto the ground.
He managed to stay okay and called out to the other 3, who were continuing to speed away, "Hey! Help me! Help me!"
He yelled for help 3 more times, but no answer came back, and the trio just sped away with their valuable loot without looking back.
"You bastar-" but before the robber could finish his words, Shirai silent him by pushing his head onto the ground and having the sides of his pants pinned down onto the ground with 14 pins, before she had his hands cuffed behind his back, after she knocked him out unconscious with a swift, hard kick to his face and after she had pinned his M16 with 5 metallic needles, rendering it obsolete.
Shirai then reached and pulled out her cellphone and contacted her friend, Kazari Uiharu.
"Uiharu, I have apprehended 2 of the 5 bank robbers. 3 more to go. Can you tell me their current location?" Shirai asked.
Uiharu, who was talking to Shirai, as she was sitting in front of a desk in a dark room with her laptop and computers around her, was speaking with her friend on a headset with an attachable mic.
"Yes, Shirai-san," Uiharu said. "It's a good thing that you manage to implant a tracking device disguise as a small pin on the back of the leader's motorbike for us to easily track down the rest.
"Yep. So, where are the remaining 3?" Shirai asked.
Uiharu was typing on her laptop, pressing some buttons at a fast pace like Uiharu knew what she was doing without breaking a sweat.
"Shirai-san, I am tracking their leader. They made a sharp turn to the left tunnel near the end of the canal, and it looks like they are traveling through Sewer System A," Uiharu informed her.
"Got it. I'm on my way to apprehend the remaining robbers," Shirai said before skipping a little bit and disappearing into thin air after a second.
Meanwhile, back at the remaining 3, the leader and his best friend were on ahead while their hacker was behind them. All 3 were moving faster together.
"What should we do? She's a Teleporter!" the hacker yelled out with concern.
"Don't worry. We're not far from our getaway. Do you still have my and my friend's bank accounts with our savings in the data storage in your computer back at our hideout?" the leader asked the hacker.
"Yes," the hacker assured his boss.
"And the password hasn't changed, right?" the leader asked another question.
"Yes. Why?" the hacker asked out of curiosity.
"I'm afraid… we don't need you anymore," the leader said without turning his head to face his loyal hacker.
"What do you mea-" but before the hacker could finished his words, the leader's partner in crime quickly pulled out his 9mm pistol from his right pocket and accurately shot the hacker's laptop, which was inside his black, bag pack, 2 times and literally damaging it until it was useless.
The hacker was shocked to saw it until he looked back at his front direction and saw his leader was pointing his 9mm pistol in front of his motorbike's front tire before pulling the trigger. The front tire of the hacker's motorbike got flattened, causing the hacker and his motorbike to spin wavily out of control until the hacker was thrown off from his motorbike and crashed onto the ground while his bike hit a near-by wall as the two didn't look back and continued on speeding away with their loot.
The hacker was in complete shock at this betrayal until he realized that they left him behind for them to escape and for him to be a distraction for Judgment while the two get away with everything.
Those damn bastards!
He then felt some metallic pins striking down the sides of his clothing, before he fell to the ground and was pinned down on it. Shirai showed up and handcuffed him, after she removed his vizier helmet from his head to reveal his face.
"That should do it. Stay put and my friends will come and pick you up and have you locked up in jail," Shirai said.
Before she could move on to apprehend the remaining robbers, the hacker spoke to her.
"Wait!" the hacker yelled to get the teleporter's attention.
Shirai halted for a moment, before she turned around to face the annoying criminal.
"What?" she asked.
"I know that I will be locked up in jail, but I want to take my 2 buddies with me. So, I have a proposition to give to you and Judgment to make them both locked up behind bars for several years," the hacker said.
This got Shirai's interest. Although she knew that he is a criminal on the run with 500,000 yen in his bag, but he insisted in helping her and Judgment to lock up the 2 bastards, who were the masterminds behind this whole robbery operation that almost killed innocent lives.
After a moment of contemplating, Shirai spoke, "I'm listening."
Back at the last two escapees, the leader and his partner in crime were almost home free from the lawmen.
"Are you sure that we should leave those 3 behind?" the friend of the leader asked.
"As long as we have a huge pot full of gold in our filthy hands, friendship and partnership with them as well as the fact that they will end up in jail DON'T MEAN NOTHING! Do you have any regrets?" the leader asked his best friend, after expressing his words of carelessness.
"Nope," his best friend replied without any remorse or guilt on his face whatsoever.
What two heartless bastards they truly are.
"We are very lucky, you and me! And we are going to be filthy rich for life! Damn this society! Damn its people and its law! Damn all of it! Money is what truly matters in surviving!" the leader exclaimed for joy and satisfaction.
"You got that right, brother!" his best friend yelled in excitement, agreeing with him as he was contemplating on what he would spend his money on.
However, luck soon run out for both of them when the leader's best friend spotted a small pin that got pinned on the back of his best friend's motorbike with a small, but almost visible, red blinking light.
The leader's partner in crime soon realized that there was a tracking device that had been implanted on the back seat of the motorbike of his best friend, which was the reason why the Teleporter always found them so easily.
"Hey! There's a-" but before the leader's best friend could finish his statement, the leader spotted something up ahead.
"Look out!" the leader yelled as both men faced their front direction and saw the Teleporter a few yards away with a few, big pins on her hands between her fingers.
Shirai smiled, before she threw all 6 pins on the front tires of their respective motorbikes, before they spin out of control and fell off their motorbikes, rolling onto the cemented, dirty ground of the sewer.
After their motorbikes crashed on opposite walls of the sewer, the two robbers tried to get on their feet and escape as the Judgment Officer was walking her way towards them.
"You boys are very annoying as ever," Shirai mocked both men.
The robbers managed to get themselves up on time and reached for their rifles, before quickly surrounding the Tokiwadai teen girl and pointing their rifles on her on opposite sides.
"Don't move, or else," the leader made a threat statement on Shirai.
"Or else what?" Shirai asked.
"Don't act dumb!" the leader's best friend yelled out of annoyance. "We'll kill you, if you try anything clever."
"Pl-lease…," Shirai insulted them both. "I promise you both. You won't be able to lay a shot on me."
"Yeah, right," the leader doubted.
"Oh, it's true. Let me show you both then. Try shooting my legs. I assure you both. You two won't get a blow on me," Shirai warned them.
"But I will give you both a chance. One chance only. Turn yourselves in nicely or do your stupid act of shooting my legs off to take advantage on me," the Tokiwadai Schoolgirl, who is a loyal Judgment Officer, tried to offer them a way out of this situation without any harm done upon them.
But since both were arrogant, ignorant, greedy fools, they didn't hesitate to take their own option.
Both men quickly pointed their rifles at her legs right before they pulled their triggers. However, unfortunately for them, the Teleporter vanished in a blink of an eye before their bullets could hit her legs.
The leader's friend missed, but the leader himself accidentally shot the right foot of his partner in crime thrice.
His partner in crime screamed out in agony as he felt the three bullets had pierced through his skin, foot bones and arteries, causing damages to his blood vessels and giving him an excruciating pain right before he dropped his rifle onto the ground.
"NO!" the leader panicked as he quickly ran to his best friend after the latter collapsed onto the ground with his back first, agonized in pain, as the leader tried to aid him.
"I told you."
He suddenly heard someone speaking as he turned around but got a swift, hard kick on his face by Shirai as he fell onto the ground on the right side, which also caused him to drop his rifle, before Shirai walked towards his partner in crime and knocked him unconscious with a big hit on the back of his head. Shirai then handcuffed the criminal and even pinned 13 big pins on the sides of his clothes.
She then took off the vizier helmet of the leader's friend, while also pinning his and the leader's rifles with 8 pins respectively, rendering them useless, right before Shirai looked back at the leader's best friend, who got apprehended.
"Now, you stay put, while my friends come and have you brought into a jail cell," Shirai said.
"Looks like you are the last one, big mout-" but before Shirai could finished her words, after she turned to look at the last robber, the leader of the robbers was nowhere to be seen as she realized that he had quietly escape without her noticing it.
She noticed that the leader left his vizier helmet behind, probably because of too much sweat on his face and as Shirai looked up, she spotted a near-by door, which had been opened, hinting her that the leader must have exited there.
Shirai then contacted Uiharu on her cellphone.
"Uiharu, hack the near-by security cameras of sewer system number 24. See where that bastard is going," Shirai said to her friend.
"Okay," Uiharu responded.
Uiharu began to hack into the security cameras and found that there were a total of 9 security cameras, surveying the underground tunnel networks of the company's sewer system. After 5 seconds of monitoring the cameras, Uiharu spotted the bastard.
"Ah! Shirai-san, I found him! It looks like he is running up the stairway back towards the outdoor streets," Uiharu informed her.
"Which street is the criminal going to?" Shirai asked for more information.
Uiharu then hacked into near-by outdoor, surveilling cameras and found that the street was 07 Noboyuki Street, which was 7 blocks away from the office of Judgment Branch 177.
"Shirai-san, the street is 07 Noboyuki Street. I think we can get a few of our members to that street and apprehend the robber because it's not that far," Uiharu mentioned.
"I see. Okay. Have 5 officers summoned to that designated location, and I will rendezvous with them to get that bastard. I'll inform you, if we have apprehended the criminal," Shirai said before she hung up her phone and teleported again after vanishing in a blink of an eye.
Meanwhile, the leader of the robbery had lost his rifle and now was carrying a 9mm pistol and his big bag of okane. He hurriedly ran up the stairway of one of the sewer systems of a drainage service company, before he found a doorway, which led him outdoors. Upon exiting the place, he quickly get behind a near-by wall and tried to calm himself down, acknowledging that he had abandoned his best friend and fellow crime partner just to save his own skin and his own money. He knew that if he kept thinking about it, the fear, anger, and anxiety would only make his situation a lot worse and would succumb him inside, in which he wouldn't be able to stay sane nor focus for too long to get to the getaway vehicle, which was parked 5 blocks away from where he was currently present.
The leader then hit himself on the head twice with his clenched fist because of the severe stress and pressure that was beginning to engulf within him, before he snapped out of it and spoke to himself in his mind, as he felt sweat was starting to slid down on his forehead and face, while his arms and hands were shaking from anxiety,
"Pull yourself together. It's not over yet. It's not!"
The robber then clenched his hands together to calmly remove his anxiety and shook himself back to reality before he continued on running ford ear freedom with his bag filled with okane. He then found himself in 07 Nobuyuki Street, which meant that his getaway vehicle should be in the right direction and that it shouldn't be that far.
He quickly made a run for it, as he ignored some civilians, high schoolers, and car drivers, minding their own businesses and activities in this street of Academy City, while some passed by him an others were accidentally got run onto by him, as the madman was running away as fast as he could with no time to stop or think to get away from this nightmare.
As he was running, he suddenly spotted 5 officers of Judgment patrolling up ahead. From the clear view from where he was standing, he could see that they were asking some bystanders, if they had seen those involved in the bank robbery that had occurred with the use of an image on their respective smartphones.
In total shocked and disbelief, he quickly made a run towards a near-by alley way and hid himself from plain sight for a moment. He then started to panic, knowing that some bystanders know his identity and what he looked like, which would bring the lawmen onto him in no time, if he got spotted out in the daylight. He suddenly wondered to himself on how on Earth did the Judgment Officers managed to get his picture, if nobody knew what he looked like because his identity has been hidden for several months now. He checked around to see any escape routes he could use to avoid getting caught by Judgment, but, unfortunately, his luck might had truly run out because there was no doorway or any near-by, opened windows that were surrounding the alley way, nor any metal staircases was available for him to use as his new escape route to reach his getaway vehicle.
Just a narrow, straight alley way with some garbage disposal units, sitting against either sides of the alley's walls.
"DAMN IT!" he yelled angrily and furiously, almost like he was losing his mind.
He desperately tried to maintain his sanity, while his sweat was breaking too fast that he tried to think of a new plan on how to get to the getaway vehicle very soon. Otherwise, he would become statue locked inside a jail cell for who knows how long.
He then walked near the opening of the alley way, on the other side, as he hid behind a big, garbage, disposal unit beside him. He then started contemplating, before he remembered that he has a pair of shades in his left pocket of his black jacket and a cap on the right pocket of his bag, in which he could use both as his disguise, but it wouldn't be enough because it would still make him look suspicious, if he was just by himself.
Elsewhere, a young girl named Kana Hazamaya, who was nicknamed 'The Bag Girl' by a certain Tokiwadai Ace and her friends because she often carried her most favorite bag with a strap slung across her shoulder with her, was walking her way to meet up with her joyful friends at an ice cream parlor not too far from now. She was excited to try out the new flavor of her favorite ice cream brand at her favorite parlor of this city.
She let out a joyful expression on her face as she continued walking, on her way to her friends at their place of fun and excitement.
"I wonder what would be the new flavor that Yoshi mentioned to me yesterday," Kana wondered.
She then checked her playable, wrist watch on her right wrist, which was given to Kana by her aunt when she visited her niece in Academy City last year. She has been treasuring it ever since because she loved her aunt so much as well as her parents. The thought of her Papa and Mama quickly made Kana feel depressed and lonely because she couldn't 'see' or 'meet' her parents nowadays.
This also kinda depressed the little girl, who truly loved her family and friends with a joyful smile on her face that was worth millions more than any money can throw at someone's face and make them totally blind.
Kana then snapped back to reality from her daydream and noticed the time on her wrist watch.
It's only 11:30 am. She still have 14 minutes left, before their meeting time so she better hurry up. The young girl, who had recently turned 13, then joyfully sprint towards the ice cream parlor with a joyful expression of excitement on her face.
Back at the alley way, the leader was peeking on the right to see, if there were any officers in the street.
Nope. The coast was clear on the right. He then peeked to the left side of the street and there was still no signs of any officers patrolling. However, he suddenly spotted a little, teen girl, sprinting her way to the alley way that he was currently in, before he came up with a goddamn idea for a plan. He smirked, before he quietly hid himself back behind the alley as Kana was sprinting her way towards it.
Before she could pass by it, the leader quickly snatched her into the alley with his strong, violent hands and managed to keep Kana silent by covering her mouth with his left hand, as he aggressively stared down onto the little girl's innocent eyes, while his right hand pushed her against the alley wall on the right side. Kana suddenly realized that this man, who snatched her just now, was a bad man or a kidnapper. Fear and anxiety suddenly engulfed her heart and mind, as she began to shake and tremble, fearing for her life.
Her kidnapper then spoke silently to avoid attracting attention outside the alley, "You are going to act as my child. Cooperate for me and don't do anything stupid or tell those officers about me, and I promise you that you won't have a bullet in you."
Kana's eyes widened, as tears began to shed on her eye lids, while her whole body was trembling from her fear and extreme anxiety, realizing that this kidnapper would definitely shoot her, if she didn't follow his order.
"I said that you will COOPERATE! Okay?!" the madman yelled at the young girl's face, demandingly with a creepy, disturbing look on his eyes out of aggression, anger, and annoyance.
Kana just nodded, while staying completely silent for the very bad man, who has the upper advantage on her alone, agreeing to cooperate under his order.
"Good. Let's go, little girl," the robber said, before he escorted the girl to the other end of the alley way.
The robber led the young girl near the end of the alley on the left, but before both could go out into the daylight, the robber first put on his cap and a pair of shades on his head and face respectively, while he was still pointing his gun behind the girl's back right before gesturing his armed weapon for her to walk out into the street.
Kana was struggling to keep her mouth shut to follow the bad man's order so that she could still be alive and would get to meet her friends in one of their favorite places together. They have been close friends ever since, and she often felt so much joy hanging out with all of them. Now, she's worried that she would never get that chance ever again, if she made one, wrong move. The young girl was definitely having a frightening feeling, which was squeezing her heart and mind, but she must try to be calm or it would be farewell to her family, friends and those, whom she truly loved in this city as her home.
Both then walked out into the open and walked along the sidewalk like they were father and daughter. The robber had his gun firmly gripped in his right hand on Kana's back, frightening her, just to make sure that no one would notice it, while he had his big bag filled with yen slung across his left shoulder area. Both managed to pass some bystanders and some pedestrians, who were passing by both of them.
The robber then spotted some Judgment Officers, asking some pedestrians on the other sidewalk about the last robber, and they seemed to not have noticed him as he was walking along on this sidewalk with the girl.
It was actually working, much to his surprise and please from his thought.
Unfortunately, as always, he was dead wrong.
When he and Kana passed by a woman, who was just looking around the street, she spotted his face for a moment and quickly realized that this was the robber that Judgment was looking for.
She then noticed that the robber had a young girl as his hostage. Without hesitation and with no time to lose for the young girl's sake, the woman quickly yelled for help from the Judgment Officers on the other sidewalk and that she had found the last robber of that bank robbery that happened a while ago.
"Shoot!" the robber yelled out in shock as he spotted the 5 officers running towards him right after he heard someone squalled. He quickly slung out his gun up into the air and pointed at the approaching officers before pulling the trigger and firing 5 rounds at them. The officers managed to evade getting hit by the bullets, but the robber quickly snatched Kana and made a run for it with his loot. The officers chased after the robber to stop him and to save the little kid, whom they noticed.
As the robber was almost near his getaway vehicle, he spotted the officers were gaining up on him. He tried to run as fast as he could with his hostage being carried by his strong right arm while he was carrying his pistol on his left hand as his big bag filled with yen was still slung across his shoulder area.
Then, the robber spotted a semi, delivery truck about to pass-by him and the officers before an idea popped in his mind. He quickly aimed at the truck driver and shot him with 3 rounds. The first two rounds pierced into the driver seat's front windows but missed the old timer, but, unfortunately, the third one managed to hit his left shoulder, inflicting a painful injury on the driver and causing him to lose control of his vehicle, which then made a sharp turn towards the right, causing the vehicle to lose its balance and overturn onto its side.
The truck then continued to slide down the road until it stopped, making a carved trail behind it on the street's road afterwards.
This made a temporary, difficult blockage between him and the officers somehow. The robber with his hostage managed to get behind the huge, capsized truck before it stopped sliding, right before he spotted his getaway vehicle.
Finally, all of this nightmare would end soon he thought.
The robber smiled in relief, but Kana tried to struggle to get herself free, but the robber tighten his arm gripped on her tiny body.
"Let me go!" Kana yelled out of deep fear.
As she was desperately struggling to free herself, the robber firmly had his arm gripped around her body even more, before he spoke, "Shut up! I'm almost free. You just need to cooperate a little more. You got that?!"
The scary, furious look on his eyes and face made Kana so scared that it stunned her, causing the little teen to freeze for a moment, causing her to start crying out some tears from her eyelids.
"YOU GOT THAT?!" the robber angrily or maniacally yelled out at the young teen's, innocent, fearful face again in extreme intensity and insanity, while also causing Kana to stay silent and to just node to answer to avoid getting hurt but this madman.
She couldn't speak after that, as the robber continued to run, harshly dragging the helpless, little girl with him.
However, before he could reach his getaway vehicle, Shirai appeared from behind, after her teleportation travel.
"Hey! Let that girl go, or else!" Shirai yelled out loud, demanding the maniac to spare that young girl for her sake out of anger and irritation.
"Or else... what?!" the robber quickly turned around, scooping Kana with his strong, right arm and had his pistol pointed on the left side of her head, making the situation even worse, as it slowly escalated.
Shirai suddenly was stunned by utter disbelief and fear at the disturbing sight before her very eyes of what was happening now, right before she quickly let out three metallic needles and had them placed between her fingers on her right hand, ready to fire them or make a move to, hopefully, save the little girl, as the criminal stood strong with his hostage at his vile hands.
"Stop this! Let the girl go! She wasn't a part in any of this!" Shirai demanded the harsh criminal.
"You're right. This little kiddo wasn't a part in any of this, but she's my leverage in getting myself out of her with my big pot of gold. So, if you want this young girl's life to be spared, I highly suggest that you put your damn needles down onto the ground a few feet from you where you can't reach for them on time and step back towards that overturned truck," the criminal demanded the Judgment Officer as Shirai kept silent to try to assess the current situation at hand.
"NOW!" the robber angrily and furiously shouted his very loud voice up into the air, startling Shirai after 8 seconds of complete silence and for that maniac being very frustratingly impatient.
Shirai then started to struggle to keep her cool, as she tried to figure out a way on how to save the girl without giving into the bastard's demand, but then she caught a momentarily glimpse of Kana's eyes, stunned by fear as they were slowly dripping out tears from the edge of her eyelids, realizing that the girl was becoming increasingly scared for her innocent life, in which there was definitely no time to be wasted and that she must act on it now.
Having no choice because she didn't want to escalate the situation any further or make it worse in every passing second and above all, the fact that she didn't want Kana to get hurt, Shirai regretfully and submissively had her needles thrown to the ground a few feet from where she was standing.
She then rose both of her hands up high slowly and started walking backwards calmly and cautiously towards the overturned, crashed semi-truck, while struggling to keep her cool, as she was looking at Kana's distraught, tearful face, worrying for that girl's life.
"That's good. That's really good, twin tails," the criminal said, mocking her.
Shirai then stopped a few inches from the crashed truck, as she slowly and calmly lowered both of her hands down onto her waist area and spoke, "Okay. I did what you demanded. Now, let her go!"
"Of course. Of course, little missy. But you know what? I think I might just reconsider about what I just said," the criminal mentioned.
"WHAT?!" Shirai yelled in total shock and disbelief.
"You brought my partner, my best friend, down. I figured that I should use this kid as my leverage and my advantage on you and your friends to get him out of jail. That way. You and your so-called friends will never EVER catch me and my best buddy the next time we rob a bank for our next pot of gold," the mastermind of this incident and unforgivable crime satisfyingly said, before he continued on.
"And who knows? This kiddo might become our new 'sidekick'," the bastard chuckled.
The situation had become even more intense and distraught for both Shirai and Kana, as the two souls had themselves gripped tightly and firmly by the hands of someone, who was purely evil and who was having their heads and lives at the palm of his dirty and snobbish hands for his own selfish greed. The robber then expressed a maniacal laughter for his satisfaction and entertainment as he was ready to execute his next move for a 'check mate' on Shirai.
But then, they suddenly heard a brief, electric spark not far from where they were currently in, which had caused them to stop on their tracks for a second and had their attentions on it alone for a moment.
"Un-be-lievable," an anonymous individual just spoke her words out.
The eyebrows of all three suddenly rose up.
"Here I am, minding my own business, as I was just heading somewhere to meet up with my friends, and I find this loudmouth, holding my younger friend as hostage for his damn greed?!" the anonymous speaker continued on with her words.
The three started turning their respective heads around, looking for whoever spoke those words at this moment that made them very attentive towards that anonymous speaker.
Shirai turned back then looked up and became excitingly surprised and relieved, as she saw the person, who was speaking off-screen for a moment, before she yelled out loud, "Onee-sama!"
Kana then rose her head up and saw her friend, who was the Tokiwadai Ace, before she yelled out, "It's the lady of Tokiwadai!"
The robber noticed her reaction and expression, before he faced the direction where the young teen was looking at and tilted his head up, before he saw another student of the Tokiwadai School.
There, standing on top of the overturned semi-truck was the Ace of Tokiwadai named Mikoto Misaka, who was looking down directly on the criminals' filthy, rotten face with an irritated and strong expression on hers.
She then jumped off the overturned truck and landed safely and strongly onto the road below, before she stood up firmly on her feet, while staring directly at the robber with a furious expression in her eyes because the madman was holding her younger friend as hostage.
"Punks like you have no respect and compassion for the people of this city, which is our home. Sure most of us Espers have powers and were praise by them, but we are all still human beings deep down inside, who had accepted who we truly are and would use our powers responsibly for the good people and who cared for one another and for others unselfishly. But bastards like you, who had turned away from kindness, should just shut the hell up," Mikoto spoke with an irritating feel deep down inside her because of what the robber had done to others today.
"Missy, do you have any idea what you are talking about and who you are talking to?! You're just a Tokiwadai whore, who has nothing better to do than just study and who hasn't understood or had seen what the real world truly is, especially for this little kiddo, who might not be here for too long, if a certain school whore annoys me even further or tries to take away my money from me!" the robber said in a deranged tone, warning her not to annoy him any further or he would do the unthinkable for home free and for the money.
"Your selfish words are… reeeaallly starting to irritate me," Mikoto said before she slightly let out a small spark on her forehead, which the robber noticed in deep surprise.
Mikoto then continued on as sparks of electricity suddenly appeared around her body, "I don't care about your damn money. I don't care what selfish things you said or mentioned. I don't care that you think that I don't know the real world yet, which I had. Always. Right now, I cared for my young friend. And if you dare try to hurt her, I won't back down from blasting you into oblivion and burning your damn greed afterwards."
"Wait. You're-," the robber's eyebrows lifted up and his eyes widened, as he realized that he had messed with the wrong school girl of Tokiwadai and made a huge mistake about it.
She's not just a Tokiwadai Schoolgirl. She's the only Electromaster of Academy City so far, who is the third rank among the 7 Level 5 Espers, who is dubbed 'the Railgun'! And the robber knew what the Railgun was capable of.
Stunned by fear and disbelief, he screamed out in horror, as his insanity had finally got to him but he managed to keep his conscience alive, before he quickly and harshly pushed down Kana onto the road to the right as a distraction to buy him some time to escape, before he hurriedly made a run for it. Fortunately for him, he managed to get into the parked, getaway vehicle and had quickly started the engine, after he had unlocked the car's door and had put his bag of loot beside him, and the fact that he was pretty good at being fast and quick at what he does.
He quickly started the ignition and when he heard the engine running, he let out a laughter of relief and satisfaction that he was on his way to home free. He pushed down the accelerator and drove off as fast as he could, before making a sharp turn to the left and hitting the pedal to the metal really hard for the vehicle to speed up further. He then looked at his driver's mirror and saw the Railgun standing to where she was and was becoming puny from a distance in each passing second, as the robber was accelerating very fast that was making him and his loot very distant from her, which she could never possibly reach out to get him.
The robber let out a satisfying smile of relief and expressed a deep, selfish laughter for himself and for his victory, right before he spoke his harsh comeback out loud to the Railgun's face, "What are you going to do now, Railgun? Huh? How can you possibly stop me now, when you are very far away from me and my money?"
Shirai quickly went to Kana for the young girl's aid, as she cradled Kana with her arms, after the child was pushed down onto the ground harshly by that maniac.
"Are you okay?" Shirai asked, concerned for the child's injury and trauma.
Kana looked at Shirai before tears began to sliding down on her eyes, before crying as she embraced Shirai as a sigh of relief that she was saved.
As Kana expressed her cry, Shirai felt a sense of joy and relief as she expressed out a genuine smile, before embracing the young teen girl, as she spoke, "It's okay. You're safe now."
Shirai suddenly remembered the bank robber was getting away before she turned to her Onee-sama to talk to her.
"Onee-sama, that bastard is getting away!" she mentioned to Mikoto.
"I know. As always, these morons never learn, do they?" Mikoto said before she pulled out one of her tokens, which she kept, and placed it in front of the palm of her hand in a gesture, as if she was aiming at the getaway vehicle like holding a pistol and pointing it at the vehicle from a distance.
Then, she flipped the token up to the air and as it was flipping upwards then downwards, Mikoto summoned a huge amount of electric spark all over her body and all over her right arm and hand that she used for that gesture and when the token was in front of her gestured arm a mire inches away, she let out a huge electric blast, which connected to the token, causing it to be fired as a projectile from a combination of energy, speed, and kinetic force at a highest level of frequent velocity and magnitude.
The robber suddenly noticed a dim light in the rear of his vehicle through the mirror of his driver's seat, before he immediately realized that it was a blast heading towards him.
The robber was stunned with shock and disbelief, before the blast shot through the right side tire of the rear of his vehicle and blasting the road below it, causing the vehicle and the robber to be flipped upwards from behind once through the air, right before it crashed landed onto the ground below with its front first a few yards away. It then halted as a capsized, damaged vehicle.
After that hit, the robber was knocked out unconsciously with his head gushing out blood on the right side of his forehead from the impact of the crash, while his bag of money was still beside him under the capsized driver seat but not for long. Shards of broken pieces of the car's windows and other debris surrounded him, as he was out cold, as dust and smoke engulfed the scene after that impact.
"You did it, Onee-sama!" Shirai expressed her gratitude and cheer for Mikoto for saving the day again, despite Mikoto committing an act outside the law and the jurisdiction of Judgment, while Kana smiled for her.
Mikoto lowered her right arm calmly, before she gently turned back to face them and expressed a winked smile of relief to both of them from her relieved face with a brief chuckle.
In the aftermath of the incident, a few minutes later, Judgment arrived at the scene and tried to clear out the damaged area, while some bystanders watched on and crowded the place to see what had transpired without them knowing about it or being entirely aware of it.
Some Judgment Officers tried to guarantee the civilians that there were no more danger lurking around and that everything was in order again for their safety and security. The leader of the robbery that took place had been apprehended with his hands cuffed behind his back with handcuffs that couldn't be removed too easily as he had his face looking down on his walking footsteps with a body gesture of defeat and humiliation as he was being dragged into a Judgment Officer's vehicle by 2 Judgment Officers, before he was pushed into the backseat of the vehicle, while the officer holding the door wide open quietly shut him in afterwards. While inside the vehicle, the leader then kept himself completely silent with no comment on what had transpired, as well as his ultimate defeat.
As 3 Officers were assuring the safety to some near-by citizens that were still present in the area, Kana was kindly being calmed down from all of the stress and fear and was being reassured that she was now safe from harm by a Judgment Female Officer, who had studied Psychology, on a near-by bench that was situated on a near-by, small park area within this specific street.
The young girl was cradling her backpack firmly with shivering arms while being too closed to the female officer for her guaranteed safety, as her tears from her eyes lessen when the officer was calming her down with happy thoughts for children and younger teens by having one of her arms cradled her shoulder, while her other hand was brushing her head gently to give the young girl a relaxing sensation of calmness for reassurance and for the feeling of being safe without doubts.
"It's okay, Kana-chan. It's over now. The Bad Man is now in jail. He won't harm you no more. Okay?" the female officer said, reassuring and giving a guarantee that Kana was safe now and the nightmare would be gone from her forever.
Kana wiped the remaining tears from her eyes and expressed a cheerful smile of relief. The female officer genuinely smiled back for her and decided to stay by the young girl's side a little more just to help her calm down even further because she knew that children couldn't calm down too easily like grownups, who had grown maturely, in their current age and stage or growing up.
Kana then spotted Mikoto and Shirai approaching her with a sigh of relief that their young friend was saved and that no harm had been done on her because this child didn't deserve such horrid things in her life as well as for the rest of the Child Errors and younglings of this city.
Upon seeing their arrival, Kana put her bag pack down on her left side and quickly got off the bench and ran towards the Railgun before she embraced the Tokiwadai Ace on her legs while expressing a slight sob.
When Mikoto saw this, she trembled deeply within her soul and expressed a smile and sigh of relief for Kana because the young girl was happy to have been saved. Mikoto bent her right leg down and kneeled before the girl, right before she gently and compassionately pulled Kana close into her strong arms in a humble, passionate embrace of relief, while Shirai and the Female Officer watched on with satisfying, warm smiles on their humbled faces.
One minute later, the leader of the robbers had been taken out of the scene via the escort vehicle under the custody and jurisdiction of Judgment and was on his way to a temporary jail house for a trial by the Supreme Court of this city, while the remaining officers, who were still present in the street, cleared the remaining mess that the robber has made, while also reassuring the remaining citizens, who were still present, that the danger was over.
Mikoto sat beside Kana on the bench, as the young girl was now fully recovered from her trauma and was truly cheerful again, as it was now the afternoon almost around 2:00 pm exactly. Shirai was conversing with the Female Officer, who walked back to her, after she was informed by the other officers, who were taking the mad man to jail, via cellphone line, and what they were planning to do to the robber and his men next.
"So?" Shirai asked the fellow officer.
The Female Officer replied, "The robbers will all be in Judgment's custody for now. I received word from Mii-san and a few of the heads. They will be held for trial in the following days. If they are found guilty by the law, they won't be leaving their respective jail cells for a very long time. And they all definitely have so much time to think about what they had done, while staring at a wall strictly and firmly with no freedom of action for their own pleasures whatsoever."
Shirai felt relief and satisfied before she spoke out, "I see."
The Female Officer then asked, "So, do you think that young man, who was their hired hacker and who helped us identity those 2, remaining robbers with his saved images of them in his phone, did us a huge favor?"
Shirai was silent for a second before she answered, "Maybe. But not really. Although, I, honestly, admire his guts when he took his two buddies, who back stabbed him, to jail with him for a very long time."
A Male Judgment Officer approached Shirai and the Female Officer and informed, "Everything is okay now. The citizens went back to their usual businesses and the street, although it needed one more hour of repairing, will be fine the way it was."
"What about the bank that those bastards robbed, as well as the hostages, who were present during that robbery?" Shirai asked the officer with a deep concern.
"A Judgment Branch 177 Unit made an arrival to the location an hour ago. They confirmed and reported that none of the hostages were harmed as they were freed from their chains, metaphorically speaking. Although, some needed counselling to remove their traumatic experiences on this day," the male officer mentioned.
"That's a relief," Shirai expressed.
While the three were talking and exchanging relevant information, Mikoto was having a brief moment with Kana as the girl smiled for her, giving a pleasing, deep, joyful feeling to the Railgun.
"Oh! Lady-san," Kana spoke.
Mikoto became attentive for the young girl and waited for what she was going to say to her.
"I saw that guy the other day," Kana mentioned.
"Guy? Who?" Mikoto asked out of curiosity.
"That high school teen boy with spiky hair," the young girl said.
After 3 seconds, Mikoto knew whom the girl was referring to and felt a bit awkward and unpleasant about mentioning that idiot, considering the fact that young man was still a rival to her behind the scenes, and she still truly wished for a rematch to determine who would be the victor and number one between them this time. Although every time she tried to, that idiot often attempted to run off from her or play defeat for her, dissatisfying the Railgun every time and making her extremely annoyed and embarrassed out of her mind that it often ended up in an ensuing chase.
"I see," Mikoto said.
"I wonder if that idiot is still making a fool of himself, while I am not around. I hope he didn't do anything foolish to this girl. It's been 4 years and nothing seemed to change, huh?" Mikoto spoke in her mind, while she looked away from the young girl for a brief moment with an annoyed look on her face about that idiot, whom she was mentioning in her subconscious.
"Did he make fun of you?" Mikoto asked in curiosity, after she looked back at Kana.
Kana was cuddling her bag pack, before she replied, "No."
Mikoto let out a sigh of relief. However, Kana then continued, "But he does look like he is very sad and lonely on that day."
When Mikoto heard that, her eyes opened and she felt a bit surprised, before she briefly turned to face Kana with a facial expression of utter disbelief, right before she contemplated in her thoughts.
"Sad and lonely? I never thought that he… I wonder if he is…," Mikoto spoke in her mind, but before she could finish her statement, she heard Shirai's call.
"Onee-sama!" Shirai yelled.
"Yes?" Mikoto responded to her call after she stood up from the bench to talk to her.
Shirai and the Judgment Female Officer approached the two before Shirai shared the conformation to Mikoto after she and the Female Officer finished their conversation with the Male Officer, who headed out to do another task.
"Some of our guys discovered the area where those bastards set up an explosion as their distraction. None of the civilians were killed, thank goodness. But only a few were injured and had been taken to a medical center. One of our officers named Kouta was badly injured by the explosion, but he is still alive. He is currently in a hospital, being medically treated for his injuries. He is going to be given a few days on leave for his full recovery, but he's going to be okay. The doctor informed," Shirai mentioned.
"I see," Mikoto replied in relief.
"Also, that area might need a few more hours to get fixed and cleaned," Shirai also mentioned.
"Oh. Okay," Mikoto said.
"It looks like everything is okay now and are in order for this street. We should get going, too, Onee-sama" Shirai reminded Mikoto about their usual hang out with their friends - Saten and Uiharu - at their favorite café restaurant.
"Oh right! Sorry, if I almost forgot about it," Mikoto apologized as she felt lightly embarrassed.
"Come on, Kana-chan. I'll take you to your favorite ice cream parlor," the Female Judgment Officer said to the little girl.
"Ice Cream Parlor? Oh, right! I almost forgot! Yoshi and the others are waiting for me, and I am already late! Oh no!" Kana cried out, worrying that her fun time with her friends was already over after she remembered about her hang out with them.
"Don't worry, Kana-chan," the female officer assured her. "I'm sure that Yoshi and the rest of your friends are still waiting for you in your favorite ice cream parlor, even though you are a bit late. Because that's what true friends do. They wait for their trustful, loyal friends to enjoy a joyful time together no matter what."
"Thank you, Officer-san!" Kana was very thankful and in relief.
The Female Officer gently took Kana's tiny, left hand before the two walked off to meet up with the Bag Girl's friends.
"Bye! Stay safe!" Shirai yelled out, as she was waving goodbye to the kid for now, hoping that the young girl would be okay.
"Take care now, Kana-chan!" Mikoto yelled out while also waving farewell at the child for another day.
Before the two could leave the park, Kana stopped for a moment to turn around and to face Mikoto just to talk to her briefly about something important.
"Oh! Lady-san!" Kana called for Mikoto, as the Tokiwadai Ace listened on to what the young girl had to tell her.
Kana continued, "If you see that guy again, can you tell him to be happy once again and smile a lot? Because if he is very sad every day, it will only make me sad, too."
When Mikoto heard that, she quickly knew that Kana was referring to Touma, and Mikoto did feel a bit concern for him because the child mentioned that he has been depressed lately, probably in deep despair as well. But you may never know.
Still, for Kana's wish, Mikoto answered, "Okay. I will."
"Thank you, Lady-san!" Kana was very grateful. She and the Female Officer then left the park to meet up with Kana's classmates at their favorite ice cream parlor.
Mikoto once again waved farewell to the kid with her joyful smile for now.
"What did she meant by 'that guy', O-nee-sa-ma?" Shirai asked out of curiosity and suspicion with a menacing tone and a threatening expression on her face with both of her eyes covered with glowing, golden stars and her pigtails were waving and twisting uncontrollably like a mad, wicked, ghost apparition.
Mikoto's smile suddenly faded to a look of distraught and spook, before she noticed her best friend's reaction and quickly responded with an answer to her, as Mikoto tried to stay calm and maintain her compulsion from being awkward towards her best friend.
"No-No-No! It's nothing! Really! I promise!" Mikoto answered, as she was shaking her head left and right, while waving her right hand to Shirai to give a clear message that whatever her best friend was thinking wasn't the case at all, hoping that it would calm Shirai down because she was fully aware of Shirai's constant habit towards those, who attempted or dared to hit on her beloved Onee-sama.
Shirai eventually calmed down and turned around with a relieved expression on her face, before she talked to herself out loud, while smiling to herself, "I knew it! Onee-sama would never fall for any monkey or ape in this city. Because Onee-sama is mine and mine only!"
Mikoto expressed her sigh of relief and outrageous annoyance behind Shirai's back, before she quickly hid it just in time as Shirai turned back to talk to her.
"Well anyway, we should get going. Saten and Uiharu are waiting for us," Shirai reminded Mikoto.
"Yeah," Mikoto agreed.
The two school girls of Tokiwadai then walked out of the park and were on their way to meet up with their precious friend for another day of their joyful get-to-together at their favorite café restaurant.
End of Chapter One
Author's Note: Well, that's the first chapter of My NEW Touma x Mikoto Fanfiction. I hope that you all enjoy reading it.
I actually made 3 references or Easter Eggs from 3 respective works of Pop Culture from other mediums on this chapter. Did any of you notice them?
Let me know in the comments.
So, on this first chapter, it showcases the action. But the following chapters all the way to the end, it will be full of romantic feels and heart-wrenching drama for the characters.
Stay tuned for Chapter Two.
