-ONE SHOT-

...

"Hello, Lapis. Do you have a moment." The Divine One asked the pink-haired sword fighter. She'd been tending to the flowers in the garden when he'd found her and with the war against the Fell Dragon winding down, he felt more confident in what he was about to do.

"Sure, Divine One! What can I do for you?" Lapis asked. She wasn't all that surprised that Alear sought her out since he'd done so numerous times throughout the war against Lord Sombron. They could talk about almost anything really, or just train together for fun.

"Well... I want you to have this." He smiled as he handed her a rather small but shiny object. It'd been burning a hole in his pocket for a while now and he was more than happy to finally give it away to the ruby-clad retainer.

"Wow. What is this? The metalwork is beautiful. It looks all fancy and expensive... Ah! Wait! Is this... Is this the Pact Ring?" Indeed, it was. A legendary gold and silver ring that housed within a special one-of-a-kind sapphire colored gem.

"It is. Look at the backside." The Divine Dragon urged, and Lapis did just that. What she found left her stunned. A name had been carved into the backside of ring, her name to be specific.

"Why is my name engraved here?" She simply couldn't fathom what she was seeing. Her name was engraved into the Pact Ring. The Divine Dragon had gifted her the Pact Ring. It was meant to strengthen only the most meaningful bond and Alear had given it to her.

"I carved it in there using the crafting tools you gave me." He answered, completely unbothered by the situation he'd caused. He just stood there smiling while the sword fighter outwardly panicked.

"What?! You did this yourself? Using the tools I made for you? Ahh, an engraving like this can't be removed! Why did you do this?" She was too lost in her freak out to properly process what was happening. Why her?

"I have no intention of undoing it." Alear began. "I carved your name into it because I want you to have it. What do you say, Lapis? Will you wear the Pact Ring?"

The pinkette took a deep breath to steady her nerves. "You know, there was a time when a situation like this would have me fleeing in shame... But... I care about you, Divine One. And it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks."

"Does that mean..." Alear lightly pressed, feeling hopeful about the Brodian retainer's reply.

Lapis finally smiled. "Of course, I will accept this ring. You took such great care carving my name into it... How could I possibly say no after all that?"

The Divine Dragon's smile brightened. "Thank you, Lapis. I'm so glad."

"Um... I actually have something important to tell you, Divine One. You see, I..." How did she even begin to tell him where she really comes from?

"You're from a village of yam farmers, right? Way out in the Brodian countryside?" He finished for her.

Lapis' eyes widened in surprise. "Huh?! How did you know that?!"

Alear giggled at her surprise before elaborating. "I read up on Brodian yams. It's a nickname. The only people who call them that are..."

"Yam farmers. Ugh. My secret is out but... I think I'm glad. That's a big part of who I am." She sighed before a small smile tugged at her lips. Her secret was finally out, and it felt as if a huge weight had been lifted off her shoulders.

"Indeed." The Divine One agreed. "And I'm giving you the Pact Ring because of who you are Lapis."

"Thank you, Divine Dragon..." She smiled warmly before trying the ring on for size. It fit snugly on her finger as if it were truly meant for just her and her alone. "You'll be safe with me. It turns out we're both pretty crafty... so let's carve out a better world!"

-X-

When the war finally drew to a close, Alear ascended to become the new Divine Dragon Monarch. His bond with the rulers of each nation resulted in a lasting peace. He and Lapis were married soon after where she later applied her craftiness to politics, and she and the new monarch were lauded for relating to common citizens' needs.

Once the world was healed and everyone began to slow down, the two could finally just sit down and enjoy the peaceful world they helped create. Lapis shared many of her hobbies with her husband, such as crafting and tending to all the plants on the Somniel. She still harbored some anxiety about high society but managed just fine with her partner by her side.

Currently she was seated in the garden humming happily to herself as she and the Divine One placed some freshly harvested Brodian yams into a basket. Vander offered to do this task for them, but they had politely declined. This was their time.

She blushed when she turned her head to see her husband drop another yam in the basket. It was almost full now and, in this moment, she felt so at ease. Before he could grab another yam, she lightly tapped him on the shoulder which caused him to turn his head.

"Huh-" Was as far has he got before Lapis planted a small kiss on his lips. Now it was his turn to blush as he hadn't seen the sudden show of affection coming but he smiled all the same. If he could he'd make this moment last forever.

Just him, his beautiful and loving wife, and a whole bunch of Brodian yams.

(THE END!)
