Hello, hello! As you can see, I am beginning a new SYOT, continuing on as a sequel to my previous story, The Unfamiliar. These two characters included in this shorter chapter are from the past story, but you don't have to read it. There will be mostly new people. The tribute form and more information will be included in my bio, as well as the reservation policy. I hope you enjoy!
Davina Chase - District 3 Female Arena Escapee - 18
I ran from the area, my feet hitting the soft and muddy ground. I tried to step forward, but slowly started sinking and couldn't escape. I heard crashing all around me, even though no one was around.
"Help!" I screamed. My voice became distorted and soon I could no longer hear. The world started to spin rapidly, and my head felt like it wanted to split open. Then suddenly-
Nothing.
The silence was deafening as I stood in pure blackness, unable to move, breathe, or do anything. Then, out of nowhere, a torrent of harsh water came flooding from every direction. I was stuck, being bombarded with waves on each side of my body, and there was nothing I could do. I felt myself being pushed around aggressively. I-
"Davina!" A voice called. "Davina, are you okay?"
I opened my bleary eyes and rubbed my exhaustion out of them. A blurry figure stood in front of me, and after blinking a few times, the face of my older sister, Rayna, came into view.
"Oh, yeah, I- um," I murmured, trying to get a hold of myself. "Just another nightmare." Rayna nodded, but she still looked concerned.
"Alright," She said. "Anyway, Mum wanted to remind you that the 249th reaping is coming up for the next Games and that you, under no circumstances, should go."
"Why not?" I asked her, confused.
"Davina, you escaped from the Hunger Games! No one and I mean no one does that. If the Capitol knows you're alive, then they could come after you. They don't want another rebellion." Rayna gave me a stern look. "Listen, we only want you to be safe. Okay? Can you just stay in for the next few days?" I nodded, then remembered a small detail.
"Don't the Peacekeepers search the houses to make sure no one is skipping the reaping?" I reminded her. Rayna nodded again.
"Yes. That's why we need to get you to Dad's shop. Do you know any place in there that you could hide?" I thought about it for a moment, picturing the interior of the family-owned television and technology store where I spend most of my time.
"I believe so," I said hesitantly, trying to mentally scan over the whole building. I remember this one spot behind the desk, where Dad keeps his records of sales. To the left is a large box used to hold equipment that is currently empty. That would be perfect to hide in, just perhaps not the most comfortable. However, it is necessary.
"But are you positive?" She asked me. "We don't want to take chances."
"Positive," I replied. She smiled and gave me a hug.
"Alright," She paused, then seemed to recall something else. "Speaking of the shop, Dad wants you to come in. He said he had made some new sort of gadget or something," Rayna shrugged but gave me a wink.
"Bye, Rayna," I called as she made her way to my bedroom door.
"See you, Vina," She responded, then left down the hall, leaving me with my thoughts.
Will the Capitol really go after me if they knew I survived? I asked myself. Probably.
I recalled what Rayna had said about how the Capitol didn't want another rebellion. Well, maybe it was about time for one to start.
I just don't think I'm the right person for it though, because I have absolutely no idea how I am supposed to fight back.
At all.
Raeden Rachio - District 5 - Victor of the 248th Games - 18
My head turned sharply as a knock sounded on the wooden door. I sighed, then placed the parchment down on the desk, flipping it over so the print on the front was unreadable. I quickly scanned the surface of the table, making sure nothing incriminating was visible. I heard another knock, then calmed myself to look as relaxed as possible.
"Come in," I called, leaning back in my chair. The door slid open quietly on the well-oiled hinges, and I saw the face of the escort, Sapree, with her ridiculous fake purple hair and matching lipstick. She stepped in, her hands on her hips.
"Raeden, are you ready for the reaping?" She asked, her accented and high-pitched voice piercing my skull. I turned to give her a confused look.
"What do you mean?" I asked. "It's not for another three days." Sapree shrugged.
"So? You need to be ready. After all, this is the first time you will be a mentor." Crap. I forgot about that. Well, more like I didn't want to remember. Every Victor becomes a mentor for the next tribute of their gender, so this year, I will need to lead the District Five girl. I honestly don't think I'm ready, but I can't voice that aloud.
I gathered my thoughts and turned back to Sapree. "Yes, thank you for reminding me. Anyway, I need to get back to work."
She nodded. "Of course. If I may, what are you working on?" She asked me. I hesitated, deciding how much, or how little, to tell her.
"Oh, just some paperwork. I've been supporting the local apothecary and the owner wanted to make sure the funds were right. That's all." Sapree seemed to accept this explanation, gave a little wave, and stepped out, closing the door behind her.
Although I have been trying to donate some of the money I got from winning the Games to local businesses, that is not what the papers are about.
What I really have been working on is largely based on happenings in and around the Capitol. I have contacts in several other Districts, as well as one person from the Capitol itself. Rumors have been spreading that the people running the Games have been experimenting with so-called "demons" and "ghosts", and I have been investigating whether or not this is true. I was given this job because I have a little-known ability that I have barely told anyone about that allows me to somewhat speak to the supernatural. I am known as a medium, and I often get feelings or sensations that there is something unseen trying to contact me.
I know that if I tell anyone else, they will likely call me insane or a liar, and I don't want to deal with that.
However, this ability has made it a little easier to understand the happenings around the Capitol and its source. Unfortunately, there is very little information, and I am unsure of the purpose or origin, or if it is even real.
We shall see.
Thank you for reading!
As I said above, the tribute form will be on my bio. Please feel free to submit 1 or 2 characters!
It will likely take several days for me to write each chapter, so if you don't see one right away, don't worry. I will try to post at least once a week.
Thank you! 3
