Beau and Mr. Tanner were BFFs in high school; both were born in 1976. They were friends throughout school, and seeing them made them together made me think of my ex-best friend, Jessica Stanley, more than I care to.
Just a quick check of her social media is perfectly harmless. I told myself. You've been friends with her, Lauren, and Angela since you were 10. It's only a few months; you can't just turn off your feelings.
Lauren and Jesse could, though.
I bet Angela would talk to me, even if she hated me too. Angela knew how to be genial.
First things first: I needed to create a Facebook.
Creating a Facebook account was easy enough; many of my old classmates had Facebook accounts.
I was surprised that the kids on the reservation had one; I immediately friended Jacob Black.
Jessica and Lauren had a page, and Angela did too, but like the kids from the tribe, it was set to private.
I sent a request and set my account private as well, then when back to stalking Jessica's page.
She and Mike were still together; I believed that she had ended her relationship with him as well.
That's what I would have done.
After liking the Forks Facebook page, I found and liked the Mystic Falls page, then the schools' page.
There was a memorial for Mr. Tanner, but he was cremated, and his ashes would be scattered in Vegas with his sister Bree's mother.
The team held a candlelight vigil for him on the field the night I was attacked.
It was touching; I would have liked to attend.
When I was ready to call it quits on social media, I got a friend request from Caroline.
I haven't seen her since I was attacked.
I friended her, and she sent me a ton of messages.
What happened?
Are you okay?
How did you escape a mountain lion attack?
Did you talk to my mom?
Did you see the lion?
Did you know it's dead?
How did you survive?
My simple reply: Yeah, I'm fine.
I heard from Bonnie that you want to talk to my mom.
I've decided to wait until I'm fully healed.
Have you seen Damon?
The question took me by surprise; she was asking me?
Haven't you?
Not since the founder's party. You know, he bit me! He's into s&m.
Do you remember the night that I was attacked?
No. Do you?
Kinda.
Let's meet up; I want to take you out properly for your birthday
I'd rather just stay home, at least until my neck heals.
I want to spice up your closet.
Do you want to take me shopping?
No, help raid my closet. Im sure I have something that will fit your middle school bod.
Ouch. I see that mountain lions aren't only trying to maul me.
I'm sorry, but you dress like a depressed, emotionally distant loser dumped by her boyfriend.
Are you going to invite Bonnie and Elena?
You want me to invite Elena?
I'd feel comfier if more people were there.
I wasn't going to invite Elena because of the drama between you two, but I suppose I could.
And I could invite Vicky.
Don't invite her.
Why not?
This is a drug-free zone.
I have drugs from the hospital.
Prescription drugs.
Come on, give her a chance.
Fine.
When do you want to do this?
After the sexy suds car wash.
The what?
It's a fundraiser; you should bring your truck.
When's that?
Tomorrow.
When I was done with Caroline, I texted Vicky and told her about my exchange with Caroline and asked her if she wanted.
She declined.
I stood outside, watching over both Elena and Bella. With Zach dead and Damon missing, they and their families are in danger.
Elena knows I'm a vampire; maybe Bella told her, but they've had no interactions with each other since she left the hospital.
I glanced at Bella's house; her phone typing almost drowned out her grandmother's light snoring.
She was more active with a broken neck, but she didn't wander too much from home, maybe in fear of Damon.
Or me.
Elena wants nothing to do with me, Vicky is a vampire, Logan Fell is dead, and I don't know what Damon is planning. Elena said he came by her house, and she invited him in. He can come back whenever he wants.
I've been guarding them every night since Vicky was turned; Elena and Bella avoided me.
Though I think Bella's alienation was unintentional.
A ringing cell phone made me jump, and Bella gasped.
'Hello?'
'Bella.'
It was Vicky's voice.
'Vicky!'
Hey, bells.'
'Where are you? Everyone's been worried sick!'
'I know.'
'Where are you?! What's going on?'
'I'm hungry.'
'Tell me where you are, and I'll bring you food.'
'No... I don't want to hurt you or Mattie.'
'Vicky, what are you talking about? Hello?'
The front door opened, and Bella walked out, keys in hand; her scent immobilized me instantly.
'What are you doing here?!'
I look up and see, standing before me, her!
Isabella Swan.
She wore a deep blue blouse; it was the same on the second day of school, dark jeans, and sneakers.
'Bella-'
'What are you doing here?!' she looked around. 'Is Damon here?! Did you bring him to kill me?'
'No-'
'Where is he?!'
'He can't hurt you again, at least now.'
'And I'm supposed to believe that?' she scoffed. 'What are you doing here?'
I grabbed her face and covered her mouth. 'Forget about Damon and I being vampires. Vampires aren't real.'
