The following morning at Mom's work, she was in an office with a man when Sharen walked in.
"Oh, I'm sorry for interrupting," said Sharen once she noticed Mom sitting in front of the man.
"I was told you wanted to see me, sir, but I can come back," she said.
"It's alright, this meeting actually involves both of you so have a seat," said the man who was the HR Director. After Sharen had taken a seat next to Mom, the HR Director gave Mom the go ahead to speak.
"Did you go on a bigoted rant at a restaurant yesterday because two girls kissed?" asked Mom.
"No, I would never do such a thing," said Sharen with a shocked expression.
"Really?" asked Mom.
"Because one of those girls was my daughter, so how about you try again with the lies," she said.
"We also have the security footage from the restaurant," said the HR Director.
"How could you allow your daughter to be a freak like that?" asked Sharen who had dropped the good person act after realizing that there was no hiding what she really was like.
"My daughter is no freak, she's a teenage girl in love," said Mom.
"And to my husband and I it doesn't matter if the person she loves is male or female as long as she is happy," she said with rage burning in her eyes.
"I…," said Sharen before the HR Director cut her off.
"You are aware that we have a zero tolerance policy for this kind of thing, right?" asked the HR Director while leaning back in his chair .
"You can't fire me for something that happened when I was not working," said Sharen.
"That restaurant is one of our clients and they know you're an employee of this company," said Mom.
"Meaning you caused the image of the company to be damaged in front of a client which in of itself is another fireable offense," said the HR Director before putting a box on his desk that had been sitting behind it.
"So we can fire you," he said while pushing the box toward her.
"You'll hear from my lawyer about this, I know my rights," said Sharen at the same time she grabbed her stuff and started storming for the door.
"How are you going to avoid two of them when your husband is filing for divorce at the same time?" asked Mom. This made Sharen even angrier but she just slammed the door while heading out.
