Deku groaned. His head pounded as his back screamed at him. A caterpillar crawled across his lap, making him grimace. He gently nudged the creature off, standing in the dim sun of dawn. The cave around him was dank and musty. Water dripped from stalactites further in; a rather large centipede made it's way up a stalagmite in a loose spiral. Groaning as his back cracked loudly, Deku straightened from the stretching position he had been in. He slowly made his way out of the cave, squinting as the sun greeted him in a more than friendly sort of way. The sun, it would seem, was eager to start the day; he was not. Giant bugs crawled about the landscape making him freeze. Thoughts clouded his mind as he worked up the nerve to go out there and explore. Steeling himself, he moved on shaky legs.
"Mineta! Quit taking my soup!" Mineta grinned evilly at his older sister. "What? I didn't take it."
"You're literally eating it!"
"Can't you two ever get along?" Toshinori asked.
They looked at him. "NO!"
Toshinori sighed. He grabbed his soup in resignation and walked out of the room.
Bickering followed behind him until he closed the door to his study. Though the sound was only muted, it was an improvement.
As he sat down, an old photo caught his eye. Resting in a wooden frame was a picture of him, his niece, and his nephew. Ashido, the older of the two, was pulling her cheeks apart in a goofy grin. Mineta was sat atop his head, waving his arms about as Toshinori cast his fishing line into the water. He smiled at the memory. They were good kids, if not chaotic. Nana had done well. He laughed a little, remembering when she first asked him to look after her children. He had been shocked, telling her he was of no ability to care for two young polywags. Ashido, now a frog, often made fun of Mineta's seeming inability to grow legs (usually at his expense). His smile turned to a frown as he realized for the hundredth time how long it had been since he'd brought them home. Nana... why did you trust me of all people?
"Uncle Toshi! Mineta's swimming in the soup pot!" Toshinori groaned. He left his study, a bowl of cold soup left untouched on his desk.
Deku hissed as a sharp branch cut through his shirt and into his arm. A small amount of blood pushed through to the surface, but he set his mind on the task at hand. He stepped over an overgrown tree root, careful not to trip as he made his way through the damp forest. Large mushroom glowed and the odd firefly or two flew by. Large trees loomed above him as he made his way; though, to where, he couldn't have said. The area was swampy and full of life, though he found it odd that he didn't hear any frogs. He tripped on a root. Face first in the mud, Deku heaved out a large groan. He wiped the mud off his face, grimacing as some had managed to find its way into his mouth. He kept going.
Conversation filled his ears, along with the hustle and bustle of a crowded area. He picked up the pace. Two large bushes stood in front of him, effectively blocking his view. Advancing slowly, he drew back some of the large leaves. Shock froze his features as large, human-sized frogs went about their business in what seemed to be a town square. Some shouted their wares while others toted around baskets full of goods. An old grandma frog shuffled by with a knobby cane. Well... that would explain why I didn't hear any frogs.
Hey, guys! I hope you enjoyed reading this. This is definitely one of my weirder fanfictions and is probably the most "out there" one I'll ever write. I had the idea to draw Deku in the style of Amphibia and, after wanting to write some more, decided to give writing it a shot. To be honest, I don't know if I'll ever continue this, but it was definitely interesting to write. To anyone who read this, thank you for giving it a chance lol. This is what happens when you watch too much Amphibia. God bless, and I hope you have a good day!
