The Gryffindor's Celebrate McGonagall's Birthday

Summary: McGonagall's lions decide to do something special for her.

Story Start: Monday, October 4th 1993, Harry's Third Year

There was a sense of confusion in the Great Hall. The breakfast period was already halfway over and yet there wasn't a single Gryffindor student at their table, or even in the Hall at all. The students all expected McGonagall to get up from the staff table and storm up to Gryffindor tower but surprisingly she merely sat in front of her finished plate of breakfast with calm curiosity. (She had received a note last night to expect this.)

Everyone perked up and turned to the great double doors as the sound of heavy footsteps rang out. A moment later one of the suits of armor came marching in, accompanied by one of the missing Lions.

"Ha, Nice dress there Potter!" Malfoy called out getting some snickers from his fellow Snakes.

Potter gave a sniff of contempt and said "This is a kilt, not a dress you uncultured simpleton."

Indeed, Harry (and the armor as well for some reason) was wearing a kilt, one which had McGonagall raising an eyebrow due to it being patterned with her family's colors. Things got more confusing when Harry pulled out two small items then I shrunk them revealing a snare drum complete with drumsticks that he gave the suit of armor and a bag pipe which he placed the mouthpiece to his, well, mouth.

The knight gave a quick drumroll as Harry began blowing into the instrument and surprisingly he played quite well as the duo played Company Marches. Almost immediately after they started the rest of the Gryffindors filed in, each and everyone of them wearing the same kilt. Some wore them with pride while a few were clearly embarrassed but it was a very clear scene of House Unity and you could tell McGonagall was extremely touched.

When Harry and the suit of armor finished the almost four minute long song the Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff erupted into cheers and even some of the Slytherin gave polite cheers as McGonagall lifted her goblet towards Harry with a dip of her head and a rather large for her smile.

All in all Harry thought it was quite worth it spending his summer at Diagon Alley learning how to play the instrument.

Author's Note: I had this scene pop up in my head and decided 'Aw what the hell, other authors have brought out the kilts in their stories so I might as well give it a gander.'
