A full day had almost passed and still there had been no news of Eloise's whereabouts. Jensen was driving himself crazy with worry. Every time someone came into his office, he could feel his hope rise, and then completely disappear when they would tell him they had nothing yet.
The first few hours, he had spent them on the phone, calling the other Dons, hoping that they might know something, that they might be able to give him a clue of where Elijah would've taken Eloise, but no one knew anything, or if they did, they weren't telling him.
Jensen watched his men making calls and talking to all their contacts, in the hopes that someone, somewhere, might have seen or heard something, but even they were coming up empty. He could see the disappointment and worry in their faces, and he knew he wasn't alone in this hell they were all in.
Standing by his office's window, he couldn't help but think what Elijah might be putting Eloise through. Jensen knew his reputation well. Elijah was well known for using torture to get what he wanted, as well as a form of punishment. And it was an overall consensus that he was particularly brutal and vicious with it, taking a sick sort of pleasure out of it.
Jensen wouldn't lie. He had used torture in the past, but it mostly consisted of beatings and threats. The kind of torture that Elijah used was something that neither he nor the other Dons would ever use or agree with. Elijah not only would beat up his prisoner, but would use a whole array of objects and techniques to get what he wanted.
Someone once told Jensen that Elijah had used a hot poke to torture a woman that had refused to sleep with him and then made a comment regarding his size and possible performance in bed, embarrassing him in front of his men. The woman was found a few days later, abandoned on the side of the road, her whole body covered in burn marks from the hot poke. She didn't survive.
There was a man that refused to pay Elijah for protection, making a very loud scene about it. Elijah had beaten the man inches from death and forced him to watch Elijah and his men beat up his teenage daughter. After that, no one in town refused to pay.
Jensen could only imagine what he would do to Eloise. And knowing her, she would most likely be arguing with him, calling him every name she could think of and making sure he knew he wasn't going to get what he wanted. The very things that made him fall in love with her, her strength, her no-nonsense attitude, were most likely to be her downfall and Jensen couldn't help but think that he just might lose her today.
It was late in the day when a sliver of hope was brought to him.
- "Boss?"
- "What is it, Rich?"
- "Rob and I might have an idea of where Miss Ellie might be."
- "Okay?"
- "A few months back, one of our spies mentioned that Elijah likes to take his prisoners to somewhere isolated, so no one can hear them scream." - Rich said.
- "So we made a few calls and found out that Elijah owns a cabin on the further end of the lake. It's accessible by both car and boat, and it's surrounded by woods. If he's holding Miss Ellie anywhere, Rich and I are willing to bet that's the place he chose." - Rob finished.
- "Gather everyone and give them the address. I want a team to go in by boat to make sure they don't escape that way and the rest of us will go by car." - Jensen told them, hope now filling his heart. - "Good job, gentlemen."
Rich and Rob left the room running, gathering the men as they passed them, relaying the orders they had just been given. It wasn't just Jensen that had a renewed sense of hope, so did everyone else. It didn't take long for every man to be ready to go and rescue Eloise.
Jensen opened a drawer and pulled his gun out, tucking it in his waistband. Jared walked in and told him the men were ready. Jensen nodded and followed Jared out of his office, saying a quick prayer that Rich and Rob were right and Eloise was there and, just as important, alive.
