Heya! Bet you guys didn't expect a Kirby story to appear! This is another gift to a close friend of mine. Short, but it's only an adaptation of the very first Kirby game. But don't worry, this is just a taste of what I have planned for after Twilight of Danger! Enjoy!

A Fine Beginning – A Kirby One-Shot
Chapter 1: Banquet Fit For A King

A lush spring breeze flew through Dream Land. Leaves danced in the wind and birds sang in the sky. The smallest of ants worked to bring food back to the hill, and a bright, crimson butterfly gently fluttered down and rested on a flower.

Suddenly, the spring breeze brought something else.

"Waaahhh!" A childish voice cried, sailing through the wind uncontrollably. A pink sphere flew about before landing in the grass with a soft squish. When he finally mustered the strength to sit up, he looked around with wonderous awe. The little puffball had found himself among new sights.

His name was Kirby.

Kirby wandered around for some time, getting easily distracted by the simplest of things. Everything he came across was something new to inspect, attempt to eat, and either smile when he was successful or angerly push it away when it wasn't.

Things were quiet and boring for a while. Kirby considered simply plopping himself in a nice patch of grass and getting some more sleep, but he was interrupted by the scuttling of a similarly round creature along a small dirt path just nearby. Looking up, Kirby watched an orange-red colored being run by, holding a basket of food atop it's head.

Kirby had an urge to follow, but instead he got distracted once again. Minutes went by and then his attention was pulled away. Dozens more beings waddled past him and towards a large balloon in the distance. They all carried food.

"Hey! Come back here!" A voice came from behind the pack. Kirby watched as a beige-colored being with two long, stubby arms hopped after the thieves. It didn't take long for them to give up, growing too exhausted.

"My food… Pesky Waddle Dees…" The beige one looked at the ground dejectedly before turning around and starting to slowly hop back from wherever they came.

Kirby got just a brief look at the expression on the beige being before finding a new resolve. Scrunching his smile down into what he assumed was a menacing frown, he quickly pursued the pack of Waddle Dees. Something about the unhappiness of the poor being set something off inside his little head, and he wanted to help.

Dashing through the grass, Kirby pushed forward through more Waddle Dees, trying to find the ones holding the baskets of food. On instinct, Kirby opened his mouth and inhaled, swallowing up only the stuff that hit him first. When he spit things back out, they shot out right back at the enemy, not stopping until they escaped his view.

Inhaling deep, Kirby puffed up and took the sky for a moment, just to get past a large hill that sprung out of the ground quite strangely. Beyond the hill was a stone building, which Kirby happily went inside. All that was inside were two bottles of water, but when Kirby exited the house, they were already in his stomach.

Running past the pink, flying things, the yellow birds, and more of those beige creatures, Kirby got to the edge of a cliff. However, he wasn't alone. Right before him sat a large, yellow, sparkling star. Just hovering above the ground, seemingly waiting for something or someone. Without thinking, Kirby reached out, and it started to shake as soon as he touched it.

Hopping onto the star, Kirby was whisked away into the sky, flying around with an uncontrollable haste. He sailed into the trees and the star dove towards the ground. When it made impact, it sadly shattered, but Kirby had no time to react.

A jolly little creature hopped around, seeing Kirby as a playmate. He, without knowledge of just how dangerous his toys were, lobbed one at Kirby. Following his act, it exploded, sending the pink puffball flying into the air.

Frowning, Kirby decided to return the favor. When the poppy boy readied another one of his toys, Kirby jumped up and inhaled. Sucking the bomb up, he spat it right back out and into the face of his new acquaintance. The pair continued this dance until the lobber vanished in a puff of smoke, tired of the little game.

Continuing his journey, Kirby ventured through another building, this time more vertically intricate than the last one. As he ascended the small tower, he dodged huge, fuzzy things and even found a peculiar tomato behind a wall. As he walked from the highest door, he enjoyed his snack, and immediately felt a more foreboding sense of danger as he looked up at the leaves. The only way forward was down, so he went that way.

Then, Kirby came face to face with a massive tree. Before the two could say a word, the tree narrowed its eyes and opened his mouth. Dense whisps of clouds flew through the air and at the pink sphere. Kirby jumped over with ease, and when apples started raining from the leaves, he got a different urge besides just wanting to eat them.

Kirby sucked the apples up and spat them back at the whispy tree, making sure they collided right into its face. After a bit, the face on the tree disappeared with a loud boom, and then something caught Kirby's eye.

Another star, floating up and down in the air in front of Kirby. It was calling him, asking for him to proceed with his valiant journey. While the little boy didn't understand why he felt the need to get the food back, in his heart, it was what he wanted to do.

Jumping up and touching the star, Kirby felt an overwhelming pride grow inside of him, and he smiled wide. He danced in a little personal victory, eager to see what else was in store for him.

More and more fantastical buildings awaited Kirby during his adventure. In the first, he was able to try out his singing skills. Unfortunately, he seemed to be tone-deaf.

All throughout the mysterious castle, there were encounters aplenty. Bats descended from the rafters and chased Kirby. There were small, stout janitors just keeping the halls tidy. There were even ghosts and mummies! The most fascinating thing of all was how Kirby dealt with such opponents. A delicious lollipop that made him feel amazing for example, and a plate of extremely spicy food.

As Kirby neared the end of the castle, he was impeded by the owners. A duo by the name of Lololo and Lalala, respectively. From then on, the pink puffball was a force to be reckoned with.

Defeating Lololo and Lalala, Kirby was granted another sparkling star to celebrate his victory. The rest of the journey in pursuit of the horde of Waddle Dees was smooth. He conquered some tropical islands, the clouds, and was met with considerable force against his crusade. A blimp with a deadly amount of firepower and a living cloud. However, in the end, Kirby was victorious.

The mountain was all that was left. Down below, the Waddle Dees filtered through the gate and split off into groups, leading Kirby to four chambers that held the mighty foes Kirby had beat before, back for a rematch. Exhaustion was all that flowed through Kirby's little round body as he finished the task of fighting the big bosses once again. But interestingly, now there was a fifth door.

Walking through the passage, Kirby emerged in a dark, unlit room. The floor felt hard, but there was a slight give to it as if it were draped over something else. The little warrior could barely make out things that were merely three feet away from him. Then, a blinding spotlight flicked on.

The environment was unlike anything Kirby had ever seen before. A large, square block with poles stuck at the corners, all of which had thick, blue rope going into them and pointing outwards to connect with the next.

But then a shadow formed just under Kirby. It grew and grew in size and looking up, Kirby just barely dodged what was falling. The ground quaked at the huge landing; dust getting sent up into the air for a moment. When it all settled, Kirby's jaw went slack.

"Hey you! Why you're the one who's been causing all the trouble!" The figure said. Their voice was quite unique, unlike much else heard prior.

Kirby inspected the voice's complexion. A similarly round body to his own, but now blue with a thick red, yellow, and beige cloth just covering its vast stomach. Their mouth was yellow, pursed into a strange form that only reminded the pink warrior of the birds he had encountered before. They wore a cute little beanie, with insignia that Kirby couldn't recognize. Next was the hefty robe they wore. A vivid red, giving off the sense of importance. Lastly, and most importantly, was the massive hammer in their grip, bearing the same symbol as the hat.

"Got nothin' to say for yourself? Fine! You're in the presence of the great King Dedede! A lil' pipsqueak like you should be awestruck!" The self-proclaimed king wore a cocky grin, and he leaped up and stood on the ropes.

The battle began. With a swing of the hammer, the ground once again shook with power on its impact. Looking at the remnant of energy left behind, a little star, Kirby swallowed it up and sent it flying towards the king.

"Hey, not a bad idea! Swallowin' up those stars!" The king seemed pleased at Kirby's intellect, but it didn't last long. Right after he finished his sentence, the star collided with his face, and he yelped in pain.

King Dedede quickly tried to emulate Kirby's strategy, standing back and inhaling deeply. Air sailed into his mouth, along with Kirby himself! It was just a moment later when Kirby was spat out, slamming against the ropes of the ring.

Just as Kirby reoriented himself, he jumped up and puffed out, flying above Dedede as he slid on his face in an effort to ram his opponent. As Kirby touched down on the floor again, the king took a swing at him with the hammer, missing.

With haste, Kirby inhaled the star that formed and shot it at King Dedede. He winced in pain and then jumped high into the air. He looked at the pink sphere with glee, ready to pounce on him.

"Poyo!" Kirby exclaimed, running out of the way. The king was taken aback for a moment at Kirby's first audible words, but he brushed off his thoughts on what 'Poyo' could possibly mean and readied his hammer.

"This boy's goin' into orbit!" King Dedede smirked, and he whacked his hammer to the ground again. He was unamused at the feeling of being hit by another star.

The battle continued like a strangely graceful dance. Both fought with an elegance that, although not at all intended to be coordinated, matched each other seamlessly. But eventually, the king had to admit defeat.

At last, Kirby's adventure was complete. He flew up and out of the castle, taking some rope with him. Once he got to the top, he took the biggest breath imaginable, and his size grew considerably. The whole castle rumbled, and he carried it across Dream Land, the stolen food raining down on the hungry citizens below.

More stars appeared, circling Kirby as he returned the food, and to the little puffball, it was the start of something new and fun!
