Caught Up

Chapter 18

Is my heart safe with you.?

Forever.

"Kicking all around the clock. Its my turn to pick out a music soundtrack for baby Scott to listen too. You reading to little one at night is very sweet. I think he or she likes it. I feel movement alot during it." Brooke announced.

"I hope so. Just think in a matter of months we'll have this perfect little combo of us both. Created from so much love. I'm looking forward to it. Being a dad." Lucas revealed. Even though it made him nervous and stressed to think about possible mistakes he could possibly make.

He knew that was normal and to be expected. Perfect parents didn't exist especially in this town.

Brooke smiled up at him. "You are going to be the best father. I don't doubt that for a second. You had Keith and Karen for role models."

"For myself. I just want to do it right. Be loving. Understanding. Supportive. Set boundaries. But allow the needed freedom to make mistakes. She can look like me."

"But i want her to be all you in personality." Brooke said.

The expression on his face softened as they were beside each other on the porch swing.

"We're having a daughter." Lucas said.

"Yes we are." Brooke replied.

Lucas wrapped his arm around her as she settled into him.

"Bridget Penelope Scott. What do you think.?" Lucas asked.

"Its the perfect name." Brooke said. Kissing him gently.

...

A pink white and black baby book. A purple monkey.

Brooke felt as if the nursery was complete. She had just finished making her daughter's going home outfit.

And with advice from Haley she needed to get her hospital bag ready early and leave it by the front door.

Karen's added insight. About booking the hospital room in advance. And advising that they make the most out of this time before baby because once the child was born. Everything would change.

Days Later

"Breakfast scramble. Bacon. And toast with fresh butter." Lucas proclaimed. Placing the plate in front of her.

"This looks really good. We're hungry. Thank you." Brooke said.

Lucas set down his own plate. Taking a long sip of coffee.

"How's it going? Finding someone new to work with."

"You are so talented and consumed with so many stories."

"This is a set back. You are going to find the right place for you."

"With the supportive team that will make you're career thrive. I know it. I can feel it." Brooke proclaimed.

Lucas didn't know how to say he hadn't found anyone. No one wanted to work with him. And there was more to Lindsey cutting ties with Lucas as a client then Brooke knew.

It was better to keep her in the dark. He was used to rejection. But this was more alot more.

Brooke finished her breakfast. Said her goodbyes then headed for the front door. To go open the store for the day.

It was mid May. And the weather was hot.

To his relief. Brooke was distracted by the pregnancy

There were little things she didn't notice. Lucas emptied the last of his vodka into his coffee. Before drinking the remaining liquid.

That was the first time in years that Lucas allowed himself to embrace the darkness instead of pushing it away.

When it came to secrets. Lucas knew how to bury them. So well.

Even he lost sight of the truth.
