Chapter 6
Kenichi watched Midoriya and Bakugo race while contemplating how to get himself invited over to meet Inko. He wanted to get a copy of her Quirk and compare it to Uraraka's Quirk. If he remembered right it was believed that Inko's Quirk was a weak gravity effect rather than Telekinesis. This was mostly based on her need for multiple hand gestures to move an object instead of just being able to smoothly summon it and the Quirks name, Attraction of Small Objects, seemed to be aimed at gravity instead of Telekinesis.
If it was a gravity based Quirk he could use the information from Inko's Attraction of Small Objects and Uraraka's Zero Gravity to make a much stronger gravity based power. He also needed to have a chat with Uraraka, she had no idea just how strong her Quirk really was. It didn't just zero out the effects of gravity, it also zeroed out the effects of MOMENTUM. If it didn't, then her slapping Midoriya during the exams to save him from falling wouldn't have worked. Sure, removing just gravity would have stopped him from accelerating further, however the momentum he'd already gained would have kept him heading toward the ground at his current speed.
Gravity was a force of nature that could be used against just about anyone and was one power he definitely wanted to have as much access to as possible. He'd also be pursuing Quirks related to the Electromagnetic spectrum. Quirks like Kaminari's, which he already had the information on. Projectiles fired from a railgun-like ability with gravity having no pull on them sounded like an excellent ranged ability to combine with his impressive melee strength and durability.
Once the races finished, they moved on to the grip strength. It became a bit of a competition among the males in the class as they took turns. Midoriya got a somewhat above average score but was quickly blown out of the water by Shoji Mezo, the Dupli-arms user. Seeing the readout displaying '540' kilograms was impressive enough for Sero to exclaim, "Five forty?! Are you a gorilla?! No, more of an octopus!"
"Did someone say octopus? … Hot."
That comment from Mineta had the entire class looking at him like he was scum. It was clear to everyone with that one statement, even if they had given him a chance, that he was a scumbag. Whether anyone agreed with him or not was irrelevant. What he said was just something that shouldn't be said out loud outside of a private residence.
Everyone was shocked when both Kenichi and Momo squeezed their readers so hard they received error messages. Momo used a hydraulic press to practically crush hers while Kenichi just used pure physical strength.
"Jeez! You twins are both monsters in different ways!"
Momo blushed at Mina's comment while Kenichi just gave her a thumbs up and a cheesy wink, "Damn right!"
The look of nervousness on Midoriya's face was expected, as was the look of anger on Bakugo's face as he glared hatefully at the twins. So far he hadn't beaten either of them in an event and it was infuriating him even more than normal. Especially with 'Deku' in the class.
The next event let a few people show off their leaping ability with the standing long jump. Todoroki ejected himself into the air with an ice pillar. Bakugo used his explosions to propel himself through the air. Asui Tsuyu used her frog-like physique to leap high and far. Aoyama Yuga used his navel laser to launch himself through the air much more effectively than he did during the race.
Speaking of Aoyama, his Quirk felt disgusting when Kenichi had shaken his hand. It was clearly unnatural. The best way he could describe it was as if someone shoved the Quirk into him, stapled it in place, and then duct taped it down. It was all... wrong. He'd already begun the changes in Aoyama's genetics to fully integrate the Quirk properly. Aoyama might be kind of annoying and the 'traitor' among them but Kenichi couldn't bring himself to hate, or even dislike, the guy. He only needed to think about the small amount of Midoriya's quirkless life he saw to know that people would do anything not to face that discrimination and hatred.
It didn't hurt that, unlike others, Aoyama truly wanted to be a hero and, eventually, made the right choice.
When it was Momo's turn to jump, she created gas powered pistons attached to boots and supporting her body with straps. Firing them off launched her into the air and over the entire sand pit. There wasn't much point in going further than clearing the pit since the highest score one could get was the fullest length of the pit. Still, her maneuver drew exclamations of excitement from her new friends. When Kenichi stepped up, everyone was paying attention to him. He and Momo were the ones to beat so they got everyone's attention when it was their turns.
Kenichi approached the jumping point and bounced on his feet a bit while slowly releasing some of the restraints on his power. Once he felt he had enough he, almost lazily, gave a little bounce on his ankles and gave a 'little' bunny hop that completely cleared the pit.
There was a moment of absolute silence as everyone took in the scene of Kenichi using a childish bunny hop to clear the whole sand pit before Mina shouted, "Oh come on! At least pretend you're trying!"
Despite her words, Mina and the others had smiles or were giggling lightly. Kenichi just gave the entire class a playful bow. Something that did not please Aizawa in the least if the glare he was giving Kenichi was anything to go by.
The next test was the first one that neither Kenichi nor Momo got first place in, the continuous side steps. That, unfortunately, went to Mineta. Despite his strength and speed, Kenichi couldn't quite keep up with Mineta's Quirk amplified result. The little bastard made mounds of his bouncy balls on either side and then just bounced between them with zero effort on his part. However, seeing it gave Kenichi some thoughts. It kind of reminded him of that old movie, Flubber. It was pretty clear that Mineta was getting more energy out of his bounce than he was putting in. If he wasn't then he would have to constantly throw himself at the piles of balls to bounce off of them. The same way you had to keep jumping to make a trampoline work. If you stopped bouncing then you would eventually come to a standstill.
Kenichi contemplated that for a moment before letting out a silent sigh and resigning himself to touching Mineta to get his quirk information. On the bright side he'd also get another method to stick to surfaces like a certain arachnid themed hero.
With the side steps finished, the class moved back to the softball pitching and everyone but Kenichi started tossing the ball. Sadly, this was the second event that neither he nor his sister could come in first place for. That honor went to Uraraka who simply negated gravity on her ball and tossed it into space. Seriously, that ball was never coming back.
After her it was Midoriya's turn. Not much seemed to change from the anime. Midoriya tried to blow up his arm in a desperate bid to score high in at least one event only to be stopped by Aizawa. It honestly seemed to Kenichi that Midoriya went stupid once he was chosen to become the successor to One For All. He used to use his brain to get details on and theorize about Quirks. He had high scores in his class, and other little things that showed he had a functional mind. Yet here he was looking for the most obvious brute force method to do something.
Worse, he didn't need to! Even if he did NOTHING with One For All, he wouldn't come in last without Aizawa fudging the numbers! Despite excelling in the side steps, Mineta was doing horrible in everything else. He was physically small and weak which put him at a huge disadvantage against the rest of the class. Mineta had the strength and stature of a ten-year-old child! Midoriya had spent ten months working his ass off under All Might to become stronger! There was no comparison between the two! Even Jiro who, for all intents and purposes, was essentially a normal teenage girl in these tests was beating Mineta!
So, yeah, Midoriya was only panicking and losing his goddamn mind because he lost his brain somewhere along the way and became a meathead who wanted to solve all his problems with his fists. Without interference it was unlikely that he would engage his brain again until he ruined his hands and could no longer mimic All Might. Kenichi would try to get through to the idiot but he held out little hope for it actually working.
He impassively watched Aizawa ripping into Midoriya with the rest of the class. While most of them looked confused and surprised when Aizawa's Quirk was revealed, he was just bored. Finally, the iconic moment came where Midoriya only shattered one finger instead of his entire arm. Kenichi contemplated offering to heal it, but decided the dumbass deserved to suffer through the remaining tests with it broken.
He watched as Bakugo completely lost his mind and charged at Midoriya while detonating his Quirk, "What the hell was that Deku?! Explain now you useless extra!"
A moment later Bakugo was wrapped up in Aizawa's capture cloth with his Quirk disabled while Aizawa explained the capture weapon and complained about his dry eye. Hearing that, Kenichi piped up loud enough for the entire class to hear, "If you have such a problem with dry eye, why don't you have the support department whip up something for your goggles that mists your eyes for you?"
Aizawa slowly turned to face Kenichi with a look of such abject horror on it that Kenichi briefly wondered if he'd said something truly terrible. Finally, Aizawa stopped staring and loudly exclaimed, "Why didn't I ever think of that?!"
Kenichi just shrugged and went back to ignoring the whole situation. If he had his way a piece of shit like Bakugo would be expelled before the Sports Festival.
He got his smile back when Momo's turn came. Instead of using a cannon to launch the ball, she created a rifle with a bore diameter that was slightly larger than the softball and crated a shell casing with a good amount of gunpowder for a custom round. Lastly, she covered the softball in a casing of lead with a rounded point and essentially turned the softball into one massive round of ammunition. The entire class looked worried as Momo took aim using a high powered optic on the rifle. When she fired a gout of flame ten feet long was launched out of the barrel to propel the softball.

Kenichi groaned and then mock glared at Momo, "You just had to show me up didn't you?"
Momo giggled playfully while walking back over to their little group, "You have no one to blame but yourself onii-san."
"What?! How could this possibly be my fault?!"
Her smile turned playful, "Why, wasn't it you who taught me to carefully think about a problem and how to solve it while I had the time to do so?"
Kenichi gave a playful groan, "You're not supposed to use my amazing advice against me!"
Their conversation drew giggles from most of the girls. Except Uraraka, she was too busy fretting over Midoriya's broken finger. Hearing her call Midoriya 'Deku' annoyed him deeply. His annoyance wasn't aimed at her, rather it was aimed at the spineless simp who decided to let her call him a nickname that was used to torment him for a decade. All because she was cute. It would have been better to correct her and come up with a new name to move on from his past and take a step to the future.
They quickly moved to the next test, the endurance run. Aizawa had to eventually call an end to it when it was clear that Kenichi, Momo, and Ida would run for hours. Well, if you could call Momo riding on a solar powered scooter 'running.'
After that they moved to the seated toe-touch. Most of the girls did better than the guys since they were more flexible, on average. There were exceptions though. Shoji, Ojiro, and surprisingly Todoroki all showed off their flexibility. However it was seeing Kenichi easily bend himself in half that drew exclamations of shock from the students. It was easy for him to change his body to be more flexible, he was practically snake-like with how flexible he currently was.
The only other student to bend themselves in half to such a degree was Mina. She was a dancer though so being able to stretch and flex was a requirement. Momo was only slightly less flexible than Mina. Though Kenichi wanted to lay some of the blame on Momo's breasts. They were the largest in the class and definitely made the exercise a little harder. When he caught Mineta staring at the girls, he gave the purple midget such a glare that the little bastard actually squeaked and hid behind the large frame of Sato Rikido.
Lastly, they had the upper body test. Sit ups, push ups, pull ups, lots of 'ups' for the next little while. Kenichi always kept going until Aizawa would tell him to quit so they could move on. Hearing the annoyed exasperation in Aizawa's voice was wonderful to him. Especially since he could see the annoyance Aizawa was feeling toward him.
As they finished the final tests, Aizawa faced the class and growled out, "Yaoyorozu Kenichi, explain to me why you didn't take this seriously. You clearly held back and didn't put your all into the Quirk Apprehension Test."
Kenichi shrugged carelessly, "Why would I need to?" His words drew gasps from the students but he just continued, "Your irrational and hypocritical tests clearly only targeted a select few students within the class whose Quirks didn't give them any physical edge." He gestured to Jiro and Hagakure, "Those two, for example, have amazing Quirks but your choice of using these tests puts them at a disadvantage. Honestly, you berate us like much younger children for not being rational enough because we took just a few seconds to settle down. Yet, you somehow feel its rational to use a set of tests from the pre-Quirk era to test Quirks?"
Kenichi snorted in disgust, "Either you're an irrational hypocrite or you're quirkist and attempting to find an excuse to expel students whose Quirks aren't flashy enough. Either way, your threat doesn't have any bearing on me since I knew I'd score in the top five, minimum, and therefore had nothing to fear from your threat. Unless, of course, you intend to add liar to the end of 'Irrational Hypocrite'?"
Aizawa glared at Kenichi as he finished his little speech. The majority of students looked at Kenichi with shock that he would talk back to the teacher like he had. Especially a teacher that threatened to expel someone on their first day. Except Momo, she was looking at Kenichi with pride. She hadn't felt threatened at all either knowing that she too would score in the top five at least. She had full confidence in the both of them being in the top of the class. She just hadn't realized how skewed the test had been against certain students.
Deciding he couldn't really say anything in response to Kenichi's little tirade without providing more ammo for it, Aizawa fiddled with his phone and spoke to the whole class, "I'm just going to display your aggregate scores. Explaining them in detail would take too long."
Yaoyorozu Momo
Yaoyorozu Kenichi
Todoroki Shoto
Bakugo Katsuki
Ida Tenya
...
Midoriya Izuku
Mineta Minoru
A hologram of their positions appeared hanging in the air, "Oh, and as for expelling someone, that was just a rational deception."
Kenichi snorted, loudly. Drawing every eye to himself, "So you did decide to add liar to the list."
Aizawa narrowed his eyes and renewed his glare at Kenichi. When he spoke his voice had a dangerous edge to it, "Excuse me?"
"U.A. might have been able to avoid a PR disaster but what you did to your class last year is still a matter of public record. Principal Nezu must have had to do some fancy dancing to protect the school from a class action lawsuit after you expelled your entire class within the first week." He looked at the list and saw Mineta Minoru sitting at last place, "And now you're lying about your threat to keep Mineta-san in the class? He's already ostracized himself from the rest of the class with his overwhelming perversion. Yet you're protecting him and turning yourself into a liar, for what?"
After he finished speaking he glanced around pointedly. Every member of the class, except for Mineta and Midoriya, were looking at Aizawa with disappointment. He shook his head and focused back on Aizawa who was silently stewing in anger, "I think I speak for most of the class when I say that I don't believe I can trust you to teach us properly. Your irrationality, hypocrisy, and lies today mean that we can no longer trust anything you say. We can no longer accept you as our teacher when we're trying to learn something so important. A teacher that leaves the classroom and has every student questioning if he told them the truth, is a useless teacher."
The rest of the students were nodding their heads in agreement. It hadn't occurred to most of them, but hearing it laid out by Kenichi had shown them that they really couldn't trust Aizawa. Being able to trust your teacher was fundamental to the learning process. It was even more important when you were learning to become a hero! They had to be able to completely trust anything he said about their duties and responsibilities or they could end up committing a crime on accident because they didn't know better.
With his piece said, Kenichi didn't even wait for a reply from Aizawa and made his way out of the area. The other students that agreed with him were quick to follow. If he wasn't called to Nezu's office beforehand, then he would be making a trip to his office later. He had always disliked how Aizawa treated the students. Students should not fear their teacher. They should respect their teacher. He didn't respect Aizawa and unless there was a major change he would use all the power at his disposal to force the changes that should be made. After all, what was the point of being born in one of the richest and most politically connected families in the country if he couldn't call on that power when it was needed?
Kenichi was definitely looking forward to his chat with Nezu.
AN
For the record, I actually like Aizawa and have enjoyed many dadzawa books here. However, his first class always rubbed me the wrong way. Saying students aren't rational enough because they took eight whole seconds to quiet down? I can't speak for anyone else, but I know that my teachers back in high school would be shocked if the class quieted down in under a minute after the bell rang. They'd think eight seconds was instantaneous.
Then there's his little rant about how the government isn't rational because they don't let students use Quirks during physical fitness exams. They're physical fitness exams not fucking Quirk exams! They're also ANCIENT! Seriously, using pre-Quirk era tests to test Quirks makes ZERO logical sense and unfairly targets anyone who has a Quirk that can't boost their scores somehow. It's like he was deliberately targeting the non-flashy Quirk holders. I know Horikoshi-sensei was specifically targeting Izuku for the tension and drama but... Well Like Kenichi said, the real targets were Jiro, Hagakure, Mineta, and so on.
Then on top of that, there's the BS of Mineta somehow getting a higher position than Midoriya? Look, I effing hate Mineta but credit where it's due, he has a useful Quirk with potential. Except, it really only helped him with one thing, the side to sides. If his stature is taken into account, even if he used his Quirk to enhance his 50m Dash and Long Jump, that's only 3 of Eight events he could have scored higher than Midoriya. Midoriya would have beaten him in the other five making his position higher than Mineta's. Just compare their physiques and tell me that Midoriya wouldn't stomp Mineta into the ground, even with his one finger ruined.
My biggest issue though, is trust. Students should be able to trust and respect their teachers, not fear and question them. Without trust the students simply can't learn from the teacher. If they question everything the teacher tells them, then what good is the teacher? Yes, students should question things and explore them but that's after learning the basics and having a foundation. Aizawa's foundation with the class is now built on lies, hypocrisy, and irrationality. Not exactly a good learning environment.
Uh, anyway. pat-reon slash thomasdarkrose is up to chapter 13 right now and it's only 2-3 bucks to read it all.
And remember! Reviews/Comments are like head pats, the more I get, the happier I am and the better I think I did. Fewer makes me think I did something wrong! Comments also inspire me, I mean, one comment on Pat-reon has me thinking what it would be like to give someone Ban's Snatch power from Nanatsu no Taizai, just a small modification or two and it could make a very interesting Quirk! Which might make an interesting story! Something I'll save for later. Muahahahaa!
