Chapter 2: One Step More
Spider-Man dodged a slam from Kong before running up the side of a building and leaping off! He fired a web and swung off of Kong's arm! But then, Kong grabbed him and tossed him through a building! Spider-Man leaped and looked out the hole to see Kong growling. "OK, new plan", said Spider-Man as he looked around the office he had found himself in.
Kong turned back toward Wing C, only to be hit with an array of desks webbed together! Kong roared and looked around for the assailant. "Hey big fella", said Spider-Man as he crawled up his shoulder, "You wouldn't happen to be in the market for a big banana, would ya?" Kong swatted at the arachnid man, only to his himself in the ear as Spider-Man fired another web onto his other shoulder. "I saw Batman do this in a comic", thought Spider-Man, "Maybe it should work". He swung around Kong's legs, tying them together and knocking the big ape over! "Give up for Spider-Man, the world's greatest trapeze artist", said Spider-Man with a bow. Just then, Kong broke free from the webs! "Yeah, should've seen that coming muttered", Spider-Man. He leaped into the air and fired off another web, but was then caught in Kong's grasp! Kong growled as he held Spider-Man up close. "Look, if it's any consolation", said Spider-Man, "I think you ought to consider a career in baseball".
Just then, Professor Bond, Susan, and Bobby arrived in their Jeep to see Kong clutching Spider-Man. "Kong, put him down", said Bobby. Kong grunted, evidently displeased. "Kong", said Bobby sternly. Kong gently set Spider-Man on the ground and stepped back. "Thanks kid", said Spider-Man, "Hopefully we can catch them before they escape". "Who?", asked Professor Bond as Spider-Man crawled up the side of Wing C. "Rats", said Spider-Man, "They took off with whatever it was they stole." The Bond family ran in to see the destruction. "What could they have taken?", asked Professor Bond. "This might help", said Susan as she looked over the plaque, "Looks like they took an old artifact called the Wand of Watomb". "The name sounds familiar", said Bobby. "That's because it was mentioned in murals back on Mondo Island", said Professor Bond. "According to those murals, the Wand of Watomb was just one relic that, when combined with four others, could grant the user great power", said Susan. "But why would Dr. Octopus and Green Goblin care about something from Mondo Island?", asked Spider-Man. "They may be working with an old enemy of ours", said Professor Bond, "One Dr. Thaddeus Who". "Then I'll just have to stop them", said Spider-Man confidently as he walked over to the window. "Alone?", asked Bobby. "Someone has to", said Spider-Man, before shooting a web and swinging off.
Back at their abandoned subway station, the Green Goblin and Dr. Octopus placed the Wand of Watomb inside of a metal container. "That should keep it safe for a while", said Dr. Octopus as he adjusted his dark goggles. "Good", said Dr. Who, "But now, our enemies are sure to be onto us." "No need to worry that, doc", said the Green Goblin, "I made a few calls just in case of such a scenario". He then whistled, and at once, a few men entered, wearing a rhino suit, a green suit with lightning bolts on it, a winged jet-pack with a bird-like helmet, and finally, a green outfit with a metal blade attached to a prehensile appendage. "Doc, meet the Rhino, Electro, Vulture, and the Scorpion", laughed the Green Goblin. "So what's the plan, fellas?", asked Electro. "We need a distraction, one that will actually work this time", said Dr. Octopus, "Something that should be more than enough to divert both Spider-Man and Kong's attention long enough for Dr. Who to launch his secret weapon". "Don't you worry, Doc", smiled the Green Goblin, "Me and the boys will take good care of those two". He, the Rhino, Vulture, and Electro smiled at this.
Back at the ESU campus, Susan was looking through the library for any information on the Wand of Watomb. Just then, Peter walked in. "Peter, good, you're here", said Susan, "Hold this". She handed him several books on ancient artifacts and mysteries. "I take it all went well", said Peter. "For better or worse", said Susan as she sat at a table, "Good news is some guy named Spider-Man might be helping us out". "Spider-Man?", asked Peter, "Doesn't this sort of thing belong in the Fantastic 4's area of expertise"? "You would think so, but they're busy", said Susan. "So what's with the reading material?", asked Peter. "Apparently, those villains took something called the Wand of Watomb", said Susan, "It's an old Mondo Island artifact that's supposed to grant great power to its user". Peter picked up a book and flipped through it. "According to this", he said, "its not the only one. It's connected to four other artifacts". "That makes sense", said Susan as she looked over Peter's shoulder, "Looks like those villains want find them and unleash a being named Chiros". "So we should get them first", said Peter. "I'm sorry, we?", asked Susan. "Yeah", said Peter, "I'm Spider-Man's official photographer, after all". "We'll talk", said Susan as she grabbed her books and left.
She laid down the book in front of Bobby and Professor Bond. "We think this is what they're after", explained Susan. "That does make sense", said Professor Bond, "What would they go after next?" "My guess is that they want the Eye of Agamotto", said Peter, "Luckily for us, I know where half of it is". "Where, son?", asked Professor Bond. "In the office of the most terrible man in all of New York City", Peter shuddered…
"Give you my rare artifact piece?", asked J. Jonah Jameson, editor of the Daily Bugle newspaper, "Not a chance, Professor". "Please, Jonah", said Robbie, an African-American man who worked alongside Jameson, "We need to get that thing as far from us as possible in case those villains show up". "The only villain willing to take my property is that wall-crawling menace, Spider-Man", Jameson growled, "Him and that mischievous monkey". Bobby glared at Jameson, but his father put a reassuring hand on his shoulder as Kong climbed up the window. "Speak of the devil", grunted Jameson, "Yeah, I'm talking about you, you lunk-headed ignoramus!" "I wouldn't do that if I were you, sir", said Bobby. "What can this beast do?", snarled Jameson, "This grizzly gorilla knows he can't touch me without his island flooding with lawyers". Kong growled. "Watch it, you overgrown baboon", said Jameson, "You're messing with the one and only J. Jonah Jameson!" Kong roared, the wind from his breath knocking Jameson back! "So yes", said Jameson meekly as he pulled a box out of his desk, "What I meant to say is that we'd be happy to give you folks the Eye of Agamotto half in my collection".
Kong noticed something in the distance and climbed down to investigate. "Looks like Vulture's part of the plan is working", said the Green Goblin, "Now it's your turn, Electro". "With pleasure", said Electro as he fired lightning bolts into the air, creating an electric field around the Daily Bugle tower! Kong roared and went back, only to be sent flying by the electric barrier!
"Now what's the problem?", asked Jameson. Just then, the walls of his office were blown out, revealing the Green Goblin. "Jameson, you slime!", snarled the Green Goblin as he grabbed him by the neck, "Where is the Eye of Agamotto?" "Eye of Agamotto?", asked Jameson nervously, "I never heard of such a thing". "You're lying!", said the Green Goblin. "Come on, Bobby", said Professor Bond as he grabbed the box, "We need to get out of here". "NO ONE IS GOING ANYWHERE!", said the Rhino as he charged into the staff room. The Green Goblin tossed Jameson aside, then opened his wrist radio. "Doc, now would be a good time to deploy the secret weapon", he said. "Agreed", said Dr. Octopus over the radio, "I'm eager to see how my modifications will work".
Kong growled as something flew in close and landed between him and the Daily Bugle tower. It looked like Kong and had silver metal covering its body, a black, carbon fiber harness, red eyes, and four silver disks on the back of its harness. Kong growled as Mechani-Kong roared while beating his metal chest! The two apes got ready to challenge each other.
