Hello everyone, Lealius here, and today i bring you my first fic for RWBY, particularly, Lancaster, aka Ruby x Jaune ship
My love for this ship grew a lot after the events of V9, and i just needed to share this with you
Originally planned for Lancaster week, but couldnt wait anymore

-"The walkers came for you" Jaune said angrily as he stood up "Because Nero hates you!" with eyes filled with rage, he walked towards Ruby, who was looking at him in anger too "Oh, and let's not forget the reason we are in the Ever-after in the first place" he pointed an accusatory finger at the smaller girl "It's because of your plan that didn't work"
Rubys eyes went wide in shock, did she hear that right?
-"What about you?!" Jaune asked outraged "IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU!"
And with that, Ruby was shattered, her already damaged mind could not take it, and what's worse, those words came from him, Jaune Arc, his best friend and maybe something more (at least that's what she thinks) the vomit boy who always got her back and she got his, the last person she expected to hear something like that
Watery eyes began to formed as she looked at him, heart-broken
-"Agh!" Ruby yelled as she woke up, breathing heavily and with sweat
She looked around at her dark room, it seems no one woke up from her outburst, Weiss was sleeping on the bottom bed of their bulk bed, while Yang and Blake were on the other
Deciding that sleep was not gonna return anytime soon, she got up, still wearing her regular clothes, and headed out, once outside, she closed the door carefully, once she was sure no one wake up, she let out a sigh
-"Guess i am not over that completely" she said bitterly
she heard a door opening, but it was not hers, it was from the room in front of hers, and someone came out just as quietly as she did, she recognized the blond hair
-"Jaune?" she asked
-"Gah!" the blondie jumped on his feet, though he was still careful to not wake anyone up "Oh" he realized Ruby was there "Hi Ruby, sorry if I startled you"
Ruby shook his head "no problem"
The environment went quiet, both looked away from the other
-"What should I do? Should I stay quiet?... No, if my experience taught me anything is to not let things bottle up" Ruby thought
Little did she know, Jaunes train of thought was the same
-"Do you think we can talk?" both said at the same time, they blinked "Sorry, you first. No, you!"
They stopped, feeling silly
-"Yes, I would" Jaune said "Not here though, dont want to get caught"
-"Good idea, let's head outside"
And they headed outside, though walking next to each other, they didn't say anything
They were outside Shade Academy, specifically, in the courtyard where the dorms are located
It was the night after their return from the other world, the sun was already setting by that time, and since they lost their scrolls, they had no other choice but walking, which wasn't really an issue
The issue was that no one, or rather, Ruby and Jaune did not say a single word to each other, they would talk if it was a group conversation, but aside from that, nothing, and it was clear they were the most affected by the events that transpired in that crazy world, but they didn't mention anything
Once they finally arrived to the city, it took some time to convincing the local authorities of who they were, but thankfully, their families and friends were there
It was definitely a happy meeting, specially with all the shit they went trough recently, and though they all had questions, they realized team RWBY and Jaune were exhausted, and it was night already, so the questions will remain for the following day
-"This should do" Ruby said as they sat against some trees, not too far from the dorms in case an emergency happened, but far enough so they can have their privacy
They were next to each other
-"Trouble sleeping?" Both said
They both let out a sigh
-"Seriously, is this a thing now?" Jaune said annoyed
-"Hope not" Ruby said, trying to lighten up, her tone got serious "But yes"
-"Same here" Jaun said, looking down
-"What were your dreams about?" Ruby asked
-"It was" he swallowed hard "What happened at the paper-pleasers village"
Ruby looked down, that memory fresh on her mind "Same here"
They kept quiet, not knowing how to continue, until
-"It hurt" Ruby whispered
-"Huh?" Jaune looked at her confused
-"What you told me, about all of it being my fault, it hurt" she sniffed a bit
Jaune grabbed his neck uncomfortably "I know, I was just, overwhelmed"
They went quiet again
-"But you also said some hurtful stuff" Jaune said
-"I know" Ruby said with guilt "Calling them make-believe friends was not right, I was just"
-"Overwhelmed" Jaune finished for her
Silence filled the environment once more
-"And then we found you at Neos madhouse, and you…" his words got caught up on his throat
-"Ascended" Ruby finished
That memory sent a shiver down Jaunes spine
-"I couldn't take it anymore" her hands were shaking "We failed our mission, and we ended up in some random place, and it felt like I had to get us out, that there wasn't time to talk about my feelings, I had to be the strong leader" She took a breath "Then we found you, saw how broken you were, and you needed our help, and it was even more responsibility. And then I blew up on all of you, on Weiss, Yang and Blakes relationship, and your state" her eyes began to water "Then I was attacked by Neo, and she just added more salt to the wound, her illusions of Pyrrha, Penny, Ozpin, and the others"
Jaune felt his skin go pale and shiver at the mention of Pennys name, this did not went unnoticed
-"Jaune?" Ruby looked at him confused
-"About Penny" his own eyes began to water
-"I know she's dead, it was Cinders fault, and"
-"You are wrong" Jaune interrupted
-"Huh?"
-"It was not Cinder who killed her, she hurt Penny, yes, but the one who took her life was"
He look at Ruby directly, his eyes filled with guilt and pain
-"It was me"
Ruby stared at him, all the colors from her eyes drained, barely processing the confession she heard
-"W-What?" came her question it was more of a whisper
-"It was a mercy kill" Jaune said, now his body trembling "I had to stop Cinder from getting her powers, I didn't wanted to, but she kept insisting, and…" his voice began to raise "God damn it, I knew I had to, but why?!"
Now the tears began to fall
-"And then we fall in the Ever-after, waited there for years, and then was betrayed by that stupid cat" he sniffed "And I found the paper-pleasers, I had to protect them, yes, I know they wanted to ascend, but after what I went through, I couldn't let that happen. Then you showed up. And said what you said. Then you took that stupid tea" another shiver down his spine "And I thought you were gone, and that… I failed you again!"
He took deep breaths
For the next minutes, no one said a word
Until he felt a hand wrapping his
He looked at his side, and saw Ruby
-"I don't hate you" Ruby said in a calm voice
-"Then" Jaune struggled "Why are you crying?"
-"I am crying because Penny is death, and you were forced to do something that can only be described as a nightmare" despite her sadness, her tone was comforting
That didn't make sense for him
-"You… You can't be serious" Jaune answered "I killed our friend, I failed to protect us!"
-"That makes two of us!" Ruby yelled back "My plan failed, not completely, but it did, and I lashed out at my friends and took the easy way out. Sure, I am back, but, I literally abandoned you"
-"Because we didn't notice how broken you were!" Jaune screamed
-"The same can be said about you!" Ruby yelled back "Dont you get it? It was my fault!
-"No, it was mine!" Jaune yelled
-"My fault!
-"My fault!"
-"My fault!
-"My fault!"
They both clenched their teeth
-"I AM SORRY FOR BEING SUCH A JERK!"
They looked at each other with eyes filled with shocked, not because they said the same thing, yet again, but because they weren't expecting to hear that from the other
Their minds rushed with thoughts, the same thoughts
-"Why did I say that to him/her?"
-"I am such a moron"
-"He/She has always being by my side since day one"
-"When Pyrrha died, He/She comforted me"
-"He/She trusts me with his/her life"
-"I was being selfish"
-"I don't want to see him/her like this ever again"
-"I…"
They stared into each other's eyes, saw their pain, the tears shed… but also, how relieved they were to see each other
In a swift move, they wrapped each other in a hug, holding each other tightly, worried that the other will disappear if they dont
-"I am glad you are here Jaune"
-"Same here Ruby"
They broke the hug, heads down, holding each other's hand, their faces with a slight blush, and also a smile
-"Let's never let anything or anyone broke us apart again" Ruby said with determination "We need to be honest with each other, and talk when we are feeling down"
-"Couldn't agree with you more, I promise, Arcs word"
They looked at each other, those eyes were once more filled with joy and hope, and something more, and they knew what it was, but more importantly, how the other felt
Eventually, they both let out a yawn, and let out a chuckle at how in sync they were
-"We should go to bed" Jaune said
-"Yeah" Ruby said
And yet, no one made an attempt of getting up, they were comfortable with each other
Before they realized, they were resting against the tree, Ruby resting her head on Jaunes shoulder, while Jaune rested his on Rubys head
-"Good night, Vomit Boy" Ruby said cheerfully
-"Good night, Crater Face" Jaune replied just as cheerfully
They were sleeping peacefully, there were still many trials to come, many hardships
But they knew they will overcome them, Cinder, Salem, anyone
Because they have each other
And thats the end of that, short sure, but I think it gets the job done
Ruby and Jaune say some things during V9, some they probably regret, and they both needed an ear to vent out, we all do, so never be afraid to ask for help
I dont know if there will be a V10, hopefully yes, and I also hope I did justice
