Caught Up

Chapter 22

authors note : I want to say Lucas's regretted his words but if i'm being honest. He's been holding on to these feelings for awhile. The drinking was his attempt to push them down. The issue for Brooke isn't Lindsey being the editor. Its her being kept in the dark by her husband that they used to be in love. Lucas never planned to reveal that.

You're not my homeland anymore

So what am I defending now?

You were my town.

Second, third, and hundredth chances

I'm not your problem anymore

Brooke never pictured herself leaving their home. And feeling the need to be away from Lucas. Yet here she was. Through her falling tears and emotional turmoil she was desperate for a retreat. A safe place to sort out her feelings and thoughts.

Everything he said to her. Threw her direction in words was meant to hurt and re open wounds he had a part in healing her from.

She didn't want to hear or see any possible communication from Lucas. So she kept her cellphone off. Eventually stopping the car.

Brooke took deep breaths. She was feeling uncomfortable and baby girl Scott was making her presence known.

She read that babies in the womb could feel anything the mom did. And the last thing she wanted was to transfer any of this to her daughter.

She soon got her suitcase. Made her way towards the house.

Her beach house. Sacred space. The air. The quiet. The privacy.

She longed for this. She wanted to wallow and linger in her raw emotions. But she couldn't. She had a baby to prepare for.

And that is how Brooke spent the next few days. Getting the closest room next to hers. Ready for her daughter.

Once she felt satisfied with the room makeover. She reached out.

To her support system. Haley. Rachel.

She wanted to call Karen but decided against at least for now.

...

Sometime Later

"What's going on? You barely gave any details on the call you made.?" Rachel asked. Looking to Brooke. Once she entered the beach house.

"When you said you were here. I expected to see Lucas. Are you okay.?" Haley asked.

"No. I'm not." Brooke replied. Taking a breath as she started to explain in detail the last exchange between her and Lucas.

The expression on Haley's face softened.

As Rachel debated in her mind whether to flat Lucas's car tires or key his car.

"I never expected Lucas to act like this. I thought he was better then that." Rachel admitted.

"We're here for anything you need. Do you have a plan?" Haley asked.

"Give birth and then I don't know." Brooke confessed.

Haley wrapped her into a hug.

...

When Lindsey opened her front door. She never expected to find Lucas there. She didn't know why he was here. What he wanted. But she knew this much. Brooke had turned him away and she wouldn't do that.

Which is why she let him inside.
