Once their meal was consumed and Kento paid the bill, the man took Megumi back to Gojo's residence using a spare key that Gojo always kept under one of the plant pots nestled beside the front door. Megumi was quietly relieved that they would be staying at his home, as he had never visited Nanami's residence before and imagined the sorcerer to be a sort of neat freak when it came to his home, envisioning Kento scolding him for something as petty as creasing the duvet covers. As soon as the door unlocked, the boy rushed inside, plonking himself onto the sofa face first in the living room. Kento followed, surprised to see that Gojo actually kept a somewhat clean home. Given the white haired man's disposition, he'd presumed his home would be just as chaotic as he was.
"Right Megumi, entertain yourself for a short while whilst I make some phone calls. Can you do that?" The child sat upright and nodded to Kento, observing the man pulling out his mobile phone and sealing himself in the kitchen for some privacy. Meanwhile, Megumi used the remote control to bring the television to life, switching to a children's network to watch some cartoons to pass the time. But, as each episode ended and another began, all he could think about was Gojo; how the man had passed out and lay on the floor unresponsive, how Megumi had found him slumped over the toilet bowl bringing up last night's dinner and how his usual, lively spark was nearly extinguished from the sickness that ravaged his body. The child was pulled away from his thoughts by the sound of a door opening. Kento had finished whatever phone conversations he had and sat beside the child, affixing his glasses to his face as he did so.
"I've spoken with the hospital. Gojo is being operated on as we speak and should be out of theatre in the next hour or two." Nanami's news made Megumi's heart skip a beat, he hadn't expected Gojo to be taken to theatre so quickly but given the state he was in, it was probable they treated it as an emergency and rushed him in as soon as they could. "Can I see him?" The child didn't even comprehend the words that left his mouth, seemingly his heart spoke for him. Kento looked to the child, it was no surprise he wished to see his caregiver after witnessing Gojo in such a decrepit state. "Of course, we will go up to the hospital to see him. I also have to tell you though, that the nurse I spoke to stated they'd be keeping Gojo in hospital for a few days as he has a nasty infection to boot." Hearing this, Megumi immediately hopped from the sofa and ran up to Gojo's room, grabbing a sports bag Gojo kept at the back of his wardrobe and beginning to fill it with various items in which the boy imagined Gojo would need for his stay. Upon hearing such a ruckus being made, Kento groaned and went to inspect the source of the noise, mentally preparing himself for whatever sort of mess the boy had gotten himself into only to see Megumi packing what appeared to be a hospital bag for Gojo. Kento sighed, leaning against the door frame as he watched the child bounce between drawers, unable to suppress the warm sensation that burned in his chest. 'You've got yourself a decent kid here Gojo...' Kento hummed internally, holding back a chuckle when he noticed Megumi throw unwashed socks he'd found on the floor into the bag.
"Hey kid", Megumi turned to Kento, caught off guard as he hadn't heard the man descend up the stairs, a skill he and Gojo shared. "Gojo isn't going to want dirty, unused socks. Take those out and put in some new ones". Frowning, the child realised the man was right and tossed the socks in question to one side.
Hand in hand, because Nanami forced Megumi to hold his hand whilst crossing the busy roads leading to the hospital, the pair walked inside the reception area. Kento Nanami had the hospital stay bag for Gojo slung across his shoulder and Megumi, who was much too small to hold the weight of the bag, was tasked with carrying the picture he drew for his caregiver in the restaurant as well as clutching a small teddy bear to his chest. It was a stuffed animal Gojo had gifted him last year when Megumi came down with the flu. The bear, despite having no medical properties, helped Megumi to feel a little more at ease and since it aided in his recovery, the child thought that perhaps it would help Gojo in his. Admittedly, when Megumi reluctantly explained to Kento the reasoning behind the bear's appearance, he found it to be both expected, as Megumi was a young child after all, and sweet as such a display of affection was something only a child would think of.
"Mr. Satoru is on ward ten, the nurse stationed there will direct you to his room." With that, Kento led Megumi to the elevators that took them up to ward ten where they were greeted by another nurse.
"Mr. Satoru? He hasn't woken up yet from his operation, but you're more than welcome to keep him company as he rests. He's in room six." The nurse explained to Nanami. While Kento continued his conversion with the nurse in charge of the ward and without waiting for Nanami, Megumi walked ahead. The boy picked up his pace, scannning the numbers of the doors he passed until he was stood in front of a door with the number six on it that separated him and Gojo.
Taking in a deep breath, the child opened the door to see Gojo laying in a hospital bed, hooked up to an IV drip and heart monitor. Megumi tiptoed stealthily to Gojo's bedside, climbing onto a chair situated at his bedside where he then placed his picture for the elder on the tabletop and carefully laid the stuffed toy on Gojo's chest. "...Gojo?" Nothing. No response. The man's eyes were closed and it seemed as though he were asleep. In Megumi's mind, he clearly hadn't been loud enough to wake Gojo, so he gently shook his broad shoulder and tried again. "Gojo? Gojo wake up, it's me Megumi. Nanami is here too." Once again, Gojo didn't stir, there was sign that the man had even acknowledged Megumi's presence. A rising sense of annoyance mixed with anxiety bubbled inside of the boy, he couldn't understand why Gojo wasn't waking. Did he take some sleep medication? Perhaps he was just very tired? Why wasn't he responding to him?
Kento, who'd been watching from the foot of Gojo's bed after finishing his convedsafion and seeing the child had wandered off inevitably to search for Gojo, cautiously approached the child and placed a hand on his shoulder to capture his attention. "The nurse told me he would still be out from the anaesthesia, he may take a little while to wake up." Kento explained, sitting beside Megumi in a separate chair while casting a wary eye over the sorcerer, admittedly unnerved by how still his acquaintance was. "What's anaesthesia? Is he...going to die?" Megumi felt all of the feelings he'd been suppressing since morning come to a head, it was as though he were a shaken bottle of pop that had burst after being opened and, in a rare display for the child, he started to cry. Kento, who was not used to children and who'd nearly fallen from his chair after Megumi's question, felt completely helpless at seeing the child crying. "Uhm, please don't cry uh... he's not going to die he's just asleep. Anaesthesia is a kind of medicine that doctors give to put patients to sleep during surgery." Kento's attempts at reassuranc may as well have fallen on deaf ears as the boy leaned over to Gojo, laying his head on Gojo's chest, whereby he inadvertently knocked the bear to one side, and sobbing into the man's shirt. 'Shit. Did I make it worse? What now?' Kento began to panic slightly, as Megumi only seemed to cry more and nothing Nanami had to say would reach him. The sorcerer pondered to himself, wondering how to cheer the child up. "Come on kid, he's going to be OK, he'll wake up soon" Kento put on his best, soothing voice, or at least he thought he did, to try and ease Megumi's nerves. The child, muffled though Gojo, called out, "why won't he wake up now? I've been calling him and its like he can't hear me!". Nanami was at a dead end, unable to pull the child off Gojo and unable to properly assure the boy that Gojo would in fact wake and all would be well. It was at this moment, when all Kento felt he could do was allow Megumi to 'let it all out', he noticed Gojo's eyelids twitching.
Gojo opened his eyes, the ceiling that greeted him above was blurred, clouded by the swaying of the world around him, causing his head to feel as though it were about to topple from his shoulders. After blinking a few times, and hard, his vision began to clear and he observed his surroundings. He was in bed, evidently in a hospital, which meant that the operation had succeeded in removing his appendix. To his side was Nanami, who stared intently at Gojo. Feeling a pressure against his chest, Gojo peered down to see Megumi crying over him, his head pressed into his chest. Hearing and seeing Megumi so distressed broke Gojo's heart and the man instinctively wrapped his arms around the boy, gently combing his black, wild locks with his fingers. The boy gasped, at first thinking it was Kento trying to pry him away from his caregiver's bedside only to realise from the touch he was experiencing could only come from Gojo. Megumi looked up and was met with piercing blue eyes, as Gojo used a hand to wipe the tears from the child's reddened face. "Hey kid, did you miss me?" The white haired man smirked, resting his chin atop Megumi's head as he met Kento's gaze, who'd been watching the scene unfold in complete silence.
"Thank you, Nanami." The blond nodded in acknowledgement of Gojo's statement, tilting his head as he watched Gojo and Megumi interact as though they were like father and son, rather than child and caregiver. It was at that moment, Gojo noticed Megumi's teddy bear propped up against his arm. "Hey, what's this guy doing here?" Gojo picked up the toy and playfully tapped Megumi on the forehead with it. "I thought he'd help you feel better, because it helped me when you bought it for me when I was sick." Megumi mumbled, beginning to feel at ease seeing Gojo was awake and evidently better as he had been beforehand. The child's sentiment melted Gojo's heart as he continued to hold Megumi, planting a kiss on the boy's forehead.
"I feel better already."
